    Bleu Oleander: http://lindenarts.blogspot.com/
Bleu Oleander: looks like a new one
Bleu Oleander: I may do this one :)
Bleu Oleander: I like performance art in sl
    Santoshima Resident: yeah, very interesting
    Santoshima Resident: hi Lila :)
Lila Darkmatter: Hi San, Bleu :)
    Bleu Oleander: hiya Lila
Bleu Oleander: just talking about LEA's new projects
    Lila Darkmatter nods... listening
Bleu Oleander: a group of us went to see Cica Ghost's piece last night
    Bleu Oleander: really nice

    --BELL--

Bleu Oleander: there's a new round of requests for proposals on performance art
Bleu Oleander: we should do some of our productions :)
Lila Darkmatter: ty for the note, Bleu (reading)
    Bleu Oleander: yw!
Lila Darkmatter: so a black and white exhibit... ghosts.... fitting ground for considering absence perhaps... negative space? :)
Bleu Oleander: the artist's name is Cica Ghost
Bleu Oleander: the project is like being in a b & w drawing
Lila Darkmatter nods.... am stretching ;-)
    Bleu Oleander: with beautiful music
Bleu Oleander: the artist is french
Bleu Oleander: we spent about an hour there last night
Bleu Oleander: gathered quite a group
    Lila Darkmatter: :)
Bleu Oleander: so yes .... absence is a part of it
Bleu Oleander: lots of negative space
    Bleu Oleander: absence of color
    Bleu Oleander: detail
Bleu Oleander: but so much there
    Lila Darkmatter smiles
Santoshima Resident: do you have a LM, Bleu?
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Bleu Oleander: LEA13 (97,86,22)
Bleu Oleander: I think thats the right lm
    Santoshima Resident: ty
Bleu Oleander: if not its at LEA13
Bleu Oleander: so re theme this week ... what are dark matters?
Bleu Oleander: dark matter being another matter ... haha
    Lila Darkmatter: :)
Lila Darkmatter: there was a link shared... about dark retreats - a conversation between Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche and a neurobiologst... concerning sensory depravation
    Bleu Oleander: oh
Bleu Oleander: as in a desirable thing?
Lila Darkmatter: well not to be taken lightly
Santoshima Resident: as a form of practice
    Bleu Oleander: oh i c
Lila Darkmatter: yet the way that in the way that we see... tending to orient as though seeing externals...
    Bleu Oleander: hiya MP
Lila Darkmatter: when those who have taken dark retreats for long periods of time report vision as clear, and there are neurobiological findinds that support these ideas
    Alfred Kelberry: hi! :)
    Bleu Oleander: hiya MP
    Alfred Kelberry: saw your invitation
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Alfred Kelberry: lila, dark matter physicist :)
Lila Darkmatter: it is a new conversation happening, but interesting
    Lila Darkmatter: hello Alfred :)
Alfred Kelberry: who is absent today?
Bleu Oleander: so spending how much time in the sensory darkness?
    --BELL--

    Santoshima Resident: depends
Alfred Kelberry: btw, i haven't seen storm for a while
Santoshima Resident: Good time to see him, Boxy, is at his session on Thurs am
    Santoshima Resident: greetings Raffi :)
    Lila Darkmatter: Hi Raffila :)
Raffila Millgrove: Hi San, bleu boxy and Lila. sorry to drop in late. hope you guys had a good discussion?
    Bleu Oleander: hi Raffi
Alfred Kelberry: san, he's often on during morning sessions. at least, he was before..
Alfred Kelberry: oh, ms raffi :)
    Santoshima Resident: ?
Bleu Oleander: we're talking about dark matters
    Santoshima Resident: what box
Raffila Millgrove: like outerspace dark matter?
    Santoshima Resident: y?
Bleu Oleander: do you have the link Lila?
    Alfred Kelberry: san, re: storm
    Lila Darkmatter: sure.... one moment...
    Santoshima Resident: got that MP
    Bleu Oleander: ty!
Santoshima Resident: what are you saying exactly?
Santoshima Resident: he was here Thursday
Santoshima Resident: want to see him?
    Santoshima Resident: come on Thursdays
Lila Darkmatter: http://www.thirteen.org/forum/topics...k-retreats/20/ --- though this is more about the outer reaches of inner space... ;-)
Raffila Millgrove: he always answers me IM or email if i have a question or need something. (Storm)
Bleu Oleander: ty Lila ... will listen later :)
Raffila Millgrove: ty for link. looks fascinating.
Santoshima Resident: are you interested in dark retreat, Lila? for yourself?
Raffila Millgrove: will listen later. snap
    Bleu Oleander: snap
Lila Darkmatter: eventually... I know I don't have the stability for such a thing... at least not a long retreat
Raffila Millgrove: yes notice that it says 3 years... in other countries.
    Santoshima Resident: can be short
    Bleu Oleander: 3 years?!!!
    Lila Darkmatter smiles at Bleu
    Bleu Oleander: hey Yaku
Raffila Millgrove: wel it said that on the link.. that some masters are dong it that long.
    Alfred Kelberry: yaku san :)
    Raffila Millgrove: hey Yaku
    Lila Darkmatter: yes
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey, good morning
Alfred Kelberry: well landed on ms raffi :)
Lila Darkmatter: 3 years is thought of as ideal I guess depending on one's practice and intentions
Santoshima Resident: it's a cartoon, boxy, not to worry
Raffila Millgrove: oh i am sturdy.. i don't mind him land on me. i won't break.
Yakuzza Lethecus: very comfortable landing, but sry raffi :)
Bleu Oleander: wow can't even imagine that
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Bleu Oleander: total sensory deprivation for 3 years?
Raffila Millgrove: does sound a bit extreme.. maybe it's not total?
Raffila Millgrove: caue i dunno.. wouldn't go maybe go blind or something.. with no visual stimulations?
    Raffila Millgrove: i dunno.
Lila Darkmatter: well it is 'dark'... food is brought
Bleu Oleander: ah so taste ok
Lila Darkmatter: these things are discussed a bit in the video... thus the need for stabilty
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, those hardcore buddhists can outdo most d/s enthusiasts :)
Raffila Millgrove: d/s is unrelated to deprivation.. that is the sm thing.
Bleu Oleander: my senses are my favorite parts :))
Bleu Oleander: would hate to eliminate them
Bleu Oleander: plenty of time for that in the next life?
Lila Darkmatter: but there are things that buddhists have seen/experienced/learned in retreats that scientitist can't exactly create in labs yet...
Raffila Millgrove: personally i feel like i will be dead a long time.. i don't need a head start on that.. of losing sight/hearing etc.. being in dark.. here in this life.
Bleu Oleander: sorry, being lite about this, but truly can't imagine that
    Lila Darkmatter: :)
Lila Darkmatter: Wol and I once had a similar conversation....
Raffila Millgrove: it really is hard.. to imagine. and scary. i'd rather take a ride to space in one of those rockets.
Lila Darkmatter: about how different people are - one hears 3 years and thinks they can't afford that, and another that they can't afford not to
    Bleu Oleander: :) Raffi
    Bleu Oleander: vive la différence
    Lila Darkmatter: yes :)
Raffila Millgrove: you gotta be young to comtemplate 3 years of investment. i know a guy in his 90's who wouldn't do a book club as he felt his life was too short to read heavy duty stuff..
    Lila Darkmatter: timing too
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, a practical man :)
Santoshima Resident: usual is that practitioners don't discuss these retreats
    Raffila Millgrove: no?
Bleu Oleander: it must put one's imagination on steroids
Raffila Millgrove: they don't? why is this San?
Lila Darkmatter: "one precious life" - one figures, the view from outer space would change the whole way one lived the rest of their life...
    Lila Darkmatter: similar I guess
Alfred Kelberry: yaku, are you in sweden for christmas?
Raffila Millgrove: hehe there's a topic change...
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, i will be
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Raffila Millgrove: i bet sweden is pretty at Xmas.. cold but pretty.

    --BELL--

Raffila Millgrove: korea is freezing cold then but very pretty. I am studying Korean now.
    Alfred Kelberry: freezing? what temp?
Bleu Oleander: shared a link earlier Yaku and Raffi ... great art installation: http://lindenarts.blogspot.com/2012/...black-and.html
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, and why do you study korean?
    Bleu Oleander: yes, interesting
    Raffila Millgrove: -0.8
Yakuzza Lethecus: sweden is colder then germany yes, but not as cold as the depth of central russia
    Raffila Millgrove: average.
Bleu Oleander: what draws you to Korean?
Raffila Millgrove: i am not a celsius person but.. that is average. does it make sense to you Boxy?
Raffila Millgrove: is that really cold?
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, heh. that's not freezing :)
    Raffila Millgrove: no?
    Alfred Kelberry: -20 is
Raffila Millgrove: is 0 not cold in celsius?
Alfred Kelberry: -1 is a warm winter
    Raffila Millgrove: oh.
Yakuzza Lethecus: well, i´d say cold depends on the humity, windchill and alike
    Yakuzza Lethecus: not the temperature
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Raffila Millgrove: well i got a temperature thermometer somewhere here in my inv.. that will convert between c and f
Yakuzza Lethecus: -10 dry and sunny can be so awesome
    Raffila Millgrove: oh.
Alfred Kelberry: yes, lovely for a walk
Bleu Oleander: never see those temps here in sunny az
Raffila Millgrove: well let me put it this way. People who live there.. think it's freezing cold in winter. maybe they don't have great insulation or heating in their houses.
    Alfred Kelberry: bleu :)
Bleu Oleander: desert can get chilly though
Raffila Millgrove: people i know who taught English there found winter horrible. just speaking anecdotally.
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, but why study korean?
    Raffila Millgrove: oh
Raffila Millgrove: well .. i watch Korean tv like a maniac.. it occurs to me.. that maybe i could practice listening.. and pronoucing easier.
    Alfred Kelberry: hehe
    Lila Darkmatter: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: what shows?
    Bleu Oleander: really, Korean tv?
Raffila Millgrove: i lost my German as i had no one to practice with. didn't hear the language anymore.
Yakuzza Lethecus: did you hammen to watch ,,my way" ?
Raffila Millgrove: yes. you can watch Korean tv for free on the internet. pretty cool .. subtitled.
    Yakuzza Lethecus: happen
Raffila Millgrove: i am not recognizing the title My Way.
    Alfred Kelberry: didn't know that
    Bleu Oleander: didn't either
    Yakuzza Lethecus: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1606384/
Raffila Millgrove: yes. well they have amazing skills in Korea.
Raffila Millgrove: in areas of performance. they are tiny country.. but .. for music, dance, acting.. they are kind of .. amazing Good.
Raffila Millgrove: i am not sure why they are so good at it. but they really are.
Alfred Kelberry: their car industry and electronics are also rather amazing :)
    Lila Darkmatter: attentive, disciplined... perhaps
Raffila Millgrove: Korea got this idea.. to go global.. to be very furture//forward thinking.. about maybe 15 yr ago? and wow. they really did it.
Lila Darkmatter: please excuse me... was good to see you all and wish you pleasant Sunday
Raffila Millgrove: they go on charity missions all over the world. very quietly.. go in person.. quite fascinating.
Raffila Millgrove: one to one kind of charities..
    Yakuzza Lethecus: take care eliza
    Lila Darkmatter: :)
    Bleu Oleander: bye Lila
    Bleu Oleander: take care
    Bleu Oleander: must go also
    Yakuzza Lethecus: and bleu
    Bleu Oleander: take care all
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, re: acting, i suggest you to watch the front line, if you're into war movies. pretty cool cinematography.
Raffila Millgrove: oh that was Eliza?
    Raffila Millgrove: Lila is Eliza?
Bleu Oleander: Yaku ... i'll email you later re our art of being project ok?
Bleu Oleander: need to put finishing touches on it
    Yakuzza Lethecus: sure
    Bleu Oleander: ok bye all
Alfred Kelberry: wait, lila is her alt? i can't recall
Raffila Millgrove waves to the host Bleu.

Raffila Millgrove: well bleu said Bye Eliza.
Raffila Millgrove: that made me think.. must be an alt.
    Alfred Kelberry: right
Yakuzza Lethecus: my mind made that :/
Santoshima Resident: affirmative > Lila = Eliza
    Raffila Millgrove: ty San.
Raffila Millgrove: well.. i think i will actually watch that video of the guy talking these dark retreats.. never heard of it before.
    Alfred Kelberry: ok, enjoy it
Raffila Millgrove: you heard of this stuff San?
    Santoshima Resident: yes
Raffila Millgrove: San's the only one i know who regularly does go on retreats.
Santoshima Resident: have heard and known people who do
    Raffila Millgrove: wow.
Raffila Millgrove: well i can see.. maybe a week.. 3 years? that's kind of astounding... and scary to me.
Santoshima Resident: not really chatted about casually
    Santoshima Resident: like here
Alfred Kelberry: san is probably most advanced buddhist in pab :)
Raffila Millgrove: San why do they not chat casually. could you explain that?
Santoshima Resident: i only go on sitting retreats, and chat to boxy here at pab
Santoshima Resident: dunno, but in any practices, the profound ones are in context
    Yakuzza Lethecus: san and berti
    Santoshima Resident: ?
Yakuzza Lethecus: ah, bertram is verymuch attached to buddism too i thought

    --BELL--

Yakuzza Lethecus: but sure he´s not present
Alfred Kelberry: he practices it a lot, but not attached as in defensive
    Santoshima Resident: ?
Santoshima Resident: what do you practice boxy
    Santoshima Resident: ?
Santoshima Resident: aside from being a jerk
    Raffila Millgrove: gosh
Raffila Millgrove: is that kind of cheerful joking?
    Santoshima Resident: :)
    Santoshima Resident: " :) "
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, it may have something to do with the phenomenology aspect of it, when individual experience is hard to express in general terms understandable for peers
    Raffila Millgrove: i see.
Raffila Millgrove: i think it might be cultural. i discover in this long study of Asian culture and language.. that... things are Not spoken directly about anything .. except maybe the weather. you know what i mean?
    Santoshima Resident: yes
    Santoshima Resident: exactly
Yakuzza Lethecus: pab to me has something to do with generally keeping the mind open in which way so ever
Alfred Kelberry: san, what happened to non-violence approach of buddhism? you seem so tense
Raffila Millgrove: because my daughter is in Japan teaching language. we talk a lot about how Korean/Japanese/Chinese languages are constructed..
Santoshima Resident: [08:13] mighty pirate: san is probably most advanced buddhist in pab :)
    Santoshima Resident: firstly [ to boxy/alfred ]
Santoshima Resident: don't make comments about personal practice of other people
Santoshima Resident: unless you are going to share somethings about yourself
Santoshima Resident: i don't talk about what i practice
Alfred Kelberry: what are these rules?
Santoshima Resident: and i don't expect you to speak about me as thouoght i have spoken to you about my life
    Santoshima Resident: i have not
Santoshima Resident: [ boxy/alfred ] your cute gibes are bullshit
Alfred Kelberry: you jump on me every time i mention san in any sentence
Raffila Millgrove: now now. this is not going nice.. there is.. some.. upset here.
    Alfred Kelberry: apparently
Raffila Millgrove: oh dear. we have had a poof from San.
Raffila Millgrove: she was offended I believe from what she said.
Alfred Kelberry: she's often offended lately
Raffila Millgrove: my view: saying that San was serious about her religious practice. I dunno.. I didn't see that as offensive or "too personal" to make that comment.
Raffila Millgrove: however, I guess she wasn't comfortable with it.
Yakuzza Lethecus: is ur daughter starting to learn korean ?
Raffila Millgrove: (recently two different people in real time offended me deeply and that suprised me. as it was completely off the wall and.. i am rarely Ever offended year in .. year out)
Raffila Millgrove: no .. she is busy learning the.. advanced.. Japanese. but there are many similiarites between the 3 languages Korean/Chinese/Japanese. All originated from same base.
Raffila Millgrove: 3 countries have long histories with one another.
Alfred Kelberry: too serious perhaps. i haven't seen a more defensive buddhist practitioner.
Yakuzza Lethecus notes that he isn´t comfortable with tention and does not have good solutions to fix issues by himself therefore trying to get back to a previous subject
Raffila Millgrove: Korea sit in between China and Japan.. kind of a land bridge.. sort of a big island between the two.. i realize this from careful studies of maps of the areas.
    Raffila Millgrove: Boxy.
Raffila Millgrove: there isn't much we can say on this issue.
Raffila Millgrove: of sensitivity on San's part. we don't really know.. why/what to do.
Alfred Kelberry: yes, cause the other party has fled
Raffila Millgrove: makes people tense .. to sit thru it.. like Yaku and I sit here kind of helpless watching a car crashy.
Alfred Kelberry: anyhow, i like koreans
Raffila Millgrove: well i have much more understanding and admiration for them.. after much studies on it.
Raffila Millgrove: first time i got idea they might be kind of special was in NY when a i saw this exchibit of their.. blue and white china.. from Long ago.
Alfred Kelberry: i'd like a theme topic on that :)
Raffila Millgrove: bit like silverwork in S America.
Yakuzza Lethecus: sadly i haven´t seen gaya in ages at pab anymore, guess she was the only korean we had around
Alfred Kelberry: oh yes! i miss little bunny
Raffila Millgrove: the silversmiths in Brazil, Argentina etc..parts of Mexico. most of their work melted down.. but few pieces of gold silver that still exist. i have heard that modern silversmiths do not even know.. how it was made.. could not duplicate.
Raffila Millgrove: that is damn impressive to me!
    Alfred Kelberry: hope she's good
Raffila Millgrove: this blue and white china by Koreans.. same thing. Lost art.
    --BELL--

Raffila Millgrove: that always impresses me.. that someone could create.. 1000 years ago.. and they cannot not do it today.
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, artisanship is still big in korea, no?
    Raffila Millgrove: definately.
Raffila Millgrove: the devastation of culture and art in China by the Cultural Revolation.. it's heartbreaking.. it's like generations of Chinese have lost ability to .. "see" what is fine.. lost their eye for art. horrible.
    Alfred Kelberry: yes...
Raffila Millgrove: they wiped out thousands of years of education in design..sense. artistic aesthetics.
Yakuzza Lethecus: well, some claim that mass media has the same effect on the west and i think we are really loosing large parts of tradition and culture through it
Raffila Millgrove: might as well been invaded by hordes of pillagers and rapist.. for destruction of their own culture. ghastly.
Raffila Millgrove: I would not disagree with you on the Yaku.
Raffila Millgrove: we are losing.. a lot..
Raffila Millgrove: i can tell you.. in what ways regarding.. design... type.. design of type fonts.. for example.. going down in flames.
Alfred Kelberry: we're gaining too, though. let's not forget about advances in science and technology.
Alfred Kelberry: i suppose there's always a trade off
Yakuzza Lethecus: but in the case of china nobody should forget that the biggerst international drug syndicate called britain did a good job in the 19th century to do the same thing
Raffila Millgrove: design students not even required to take a class now in type fonts, type setting etc.. no knowledge of it.. no understanding or eye for it.
Raffila Millgrove: you can get a degree in graphic design and not know the word "kern"
    Alfred Kelberry: yaku, oh yes!
Raffila Millgrove: yaku. i would agree about breaking down the civilisation.. but the artistic feature really took the blow during Cultural Revolution.
Raffila Millgrove: I had these two grads of a good art school at my house. i was showing them some things on printing and typography. they were fascianted. they say.. wow.. why do we not even have a single class in this in college?
Yakuzza Lethecus: i know not enough to say anything about the artisitic impact on the cultural revolution, just that i recall that they tryed to cut out western influences
Yakuzza Lethecus *wonders where west starts and stops :)
Raffila Millgrove: while it is true.. that we are not going to be using handset type... or even much print on paper.. the rules for how to fashion the letters of our language and how to arrange them.. this is still needed for the internet etc.. and things are looking worse every year in that area.
Alfred Kelberry: raffi, yes. it's only recently that people started paying attention to typography in software design. jbos is probably the only high profile exception.
Raffila Millgrove: if you keep putting ugly work in front of average person.. they begin to lose their "eye" for good work. they cannot tell what's good or not. standards drop and drop that way.
Raffila Millgrove: this is what happen in china.. the more the quality was removed from their daily life.. the less they could tell the difference.
Alfred Kelberry: "how to fashion the letters of our language" - i like that :)
Raffila Millgrove smiles. that's my aphasia.. i couldn't find the words i wanted.. had to go with that phrase.
Raffila Millgrove: haha. there are occasionaly upsides to the disability. lol
Alfred Kelberry: yes, pros and cons in everything
Raffila Millgrove: you know Yaku.. i meant to tell you that I have been busy on the Friday at Noon and have missed chance to be in voice with you and other pabsters.. and sorry on that.. hope to get over again soon.
    Alfred Kelberry: please do come
Raffila Millgrove: yes i like it. i try to come.. so i put back into schedule: goto pab on friday noon.
Alfred Kelberry: we were troubleshooting bruce's problem on friday :)
    Raffila Millgrove: oh really?
Yakuzza Lethecus: when ever you have the time and are relaxed enough :)
Raffila Millgrove: he has a problem...??
Raffila Millgrove: i thought he was having fabulous visit/trip with a niece?
Yakuzza Lethecus: just some strange symptoms with his internet
    Raffila Millgrove: oh ok.
Raffila Millgrove: that is crappy. could you help him?
Alfred Kelberry: he's back home now to find out someone had been using his internet
Raffila Millgrove: he is so stuck out there in rural area..
    Raffila Millgrove: wow!
Raffila Millgrove: can they do that?
Raffila Millgrove: they.. borrowed his cable or what?
Raffila Millgrove: used his wireless signal?
Alfred Kelberry: his wifi was public
    Raffila Millgrove: ah
Raffila Millgrove: well there you go.
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: in germany ppl are legaly responsible for their open wifi´s
Raffila Millgrove: gee that could be creepy if he was on some data plan. hope he was not.
Raffila Millgrove: cause then he has to pay for their usage.
Alfred Kelberry: good practical germans :)
    --BELL--

Raffila Millgrove: did you guys help him?
Alfred Kelberry: raff, he was actually. 20gb a month.
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hopefully
