    Alfred Kelberry: hi, sos :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello Ewan, mighty
    Ewan Bonham: Hi Xirana
    Alfred Kelberry: ewan :)
    Alfred Kelberry: xiri girl! :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello boxy:)
    Alfred Kelberry: ;)
    Ewan Bonham: I will brb..
    Xirana Oximoxi: :))
Alfred Kelberry: glad to see xira cruz :)
Xirana Oximoxi: how are you today?
Alfred Kelberry: good. going to eat in a bit.

Xirana Oximoxi: are you following the Theme discussion?
    Alfred Kelberry: what is it?
Xirana Oximoxi: well...as far as I know you started it:))
Xirana Oximoxi: about science and spirituaity:)
Alfred Kelberry: is it still going? :)
    Bleu Oleander: hiya :)
Xirana Oximoxi: boxy! you are terrible!
    Ewan Bonham: Hello Blue
    Alfred Kelberry: ms bleu :)
Xirana Oximoxi: of course...it is still going without you:)
Bleu Oleander: mr b ... are you behaving yourself?
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello Bleu:)
Alfred Kelberry: xiri, good to know that :)
Alfred Kelberry: rainbowy bleu today :)
    Bleu Oleander: sorry, mr M
Xirana Oximoxi: well... it happens in the midle of my night, but I have seen they meet each monday and Thursday
    Bleu Oleander: hiya Zen
    Alfred Kelberry: mr zen :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello Zen!

Bleu Oleander: hey wasn't that cool about "curiosity"?
    Alfred Kelberry: oh yes!
    Bleu Oleander: very exciting!
Xirana Oximoxi: what is about 'curiosity'?
    Bleu Oleander: flawless landing
    Zen Arado: Hi all
    Bleu Oleander: rover on Mars
Alfred Kelberry: can't wait to see the full panorama of the landing site in a week
Bleu Oleander: landed early this morning
    Ewan Bonham: Hi Zen...
Xirana Oximoxi: ahh yes.... I've seen it in the news
    Bleu Oleander: already some photos

Bleu Oleander: will they find evidence of boxys on Mars?
Xirana Oximoxi: amazing how we can reach there...
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Xirana Oximoxi: 7 months travelling
Alfred Kelberry: yes, 1 mp b/w camera
Bleu Oleander: soon the color camera will start
Alfred Kelberry: bleu, i hope they find something :)
Bleu Oleander: well, they found Mars ... that's a pretty good start

    Xirana Oximoxi: some new knowledge
Xirana Oximoxi: about the 'world' and the universe
Bleu Oleander: Mars looks a lot like Arizona :)

    --BELL--

    Xirana Oximoxi: hehe :)
Alfred Kelberry: yes, the hd camera (i think even two of them) are located on the extended arm and before they activate it, they need to make sure the rover is not on a slope or something
Alfred Kelberry: arizona, i thought of that too :)
Xirana Oximoxi: then better we travel to Arizona..it will be cheaper:)

Bleu Oleander: we've had conversations with some of the lead Mars people at Arizona State U
    Bleu Oleander: pretty cool
Alfred Kelberry: oh, very nice. do tell more :)
    Bleu Oleander: http://sese.asu.edu/person/philip-r-christensen
Bleu Oleander: one of the people we've met with
Bleu Oleander: saw models and photos and lots of cool stuff

Alfred Kelberry: what fun things about the project did you find out?
Bleu Oleander: well we knew about it quite a while ago
Bleu Oleander: and have been following it
Xirana Oximoxi: it must be really interesting to get informatin of someone working in this projects
Alfred Kelberry: i'm sure they told you some interesting inside stories :)
Zen Arado: wonder if they will find anything useful?
Zen Arado: can't see humans ever living on Mars
Bleu Oleander: anything they find will be useful in our understanding of Mars and the planets

Apologies! Somehow Eliza's clock was off by a day. Thanks so much Bleu, and Zen too, for trying to grab the log...

Xirana Oximoxi: I think it's Eliza's time and she is not here...should we claim the session?
Bleu Oleander: oh yes, wonder where Eliza is
Xirana Oximoxi: yes, me too... sometimes rl matters ...bad connexion...or anything
Bleu Oleander: I claimed it for her
Xirana Oximoxi: just curious, what happens if no one claims the session? is it recordad anyway?
    Bleu Oleander: I think so
Xirana Oximoxi: ok, perfect Bleu! :-)
Bleu Oleander: Wol can find it I think
Zen Arado: I think they can retreive it
    Bleu Oleander: yes
    Zen Arado: retrieve
Xirana Oximoxi: ahh yes...clever with programms and computers

    Open Sim...

Xirana Oximoxi: have you seen the message of Adams about the presentation at OpenSim?
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: yes I told him I am interested
Bleu Oleander: not sure I really know what OpenSim is
Xirana Oximoxi: I've made an avatar there, but can not find the Chapel:)
Alfred Kelberry: i think one important aspect of the mission is that it popularizes science and inspires young minds to invent and explore
Xirana Oximoxi: it is a virtual world...but I think you can build it for free...
Zen Arado: just another VR platform like SL
Bleu Oleander: how do you get an avatar there?
Zen Arado: but Rutgers has a special place I think
    Bleu Oleander: ah ok
Xirana Oximoxi: moment, I give you the link
Zen Arado: I want to wait for Adams
Alfred Kelberry: you have to register on a site with the opensim hosting project
Xirana Oximoxi: and I think they are preaping a session with Wol...to explain how to do
    Bleu Oleander: great
    Xirana Oximoxi: http://rci.rutgers.edu/~beetham/art_history_SL/
    Zen Arado: ah ty Xiri
    Xirana Oximoxi: http://rugrid.rutgers.edu:8002/wifi
    Bleu Oleander: thank you!
Zen Arado: we could nearly work it out ourseves
Xirana Oximoxi: here you can also find instructions:)... I've been curious and have tried
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Zen Arado: can use Firestorm too
    Xirana Oximoxi: yes...it is recommended
    Bleu Oleander: for Macs too?
    Xirana Oximoxi: for windows http://panopto.comminfo.rutgers.edu/...6-61236ced1686
    Xirana Oximoxi: for Mac http://panopto.comminfo.rutgers.edu/...d-5993ccba3d31
Zen Arado: it has instructikns for Mc
Xirana Oximoxi: I have not tried for Mac
    Bleu Oleander: ok thanks

    --BELL--

Xirana Oximoxi: I have not found shops for clothes... :)
    Bleu Oleander: uh oh
    Zen Arado: oh
    Xirana Oximoxi: :))
Bleu Oleander: can you upload textures?
Bleu Oleander: must be able to
Zen Arado: looks like I can use same Firestorm
    Zen Arado: viewer
Xirana Oximoxi: I think with OpenSim you can build your own 'world'...for exemple for an university, scjool... it seems interesting
Bleu Oleander: do the worlds connect?
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...you can use the same viewer,
Bleu Oleander: or only for the specific school, etc
Xirana Oximoxi: I think it's only for each one
Xirana Oximoxi: I will read about it..I don't know exactly how it works and what rules

Xirana Oximoxi: maybe you can use it for more seroius purposes, in SL is is all related...fun, naughty, serious...
Bleu Oleander: will read about it later too
Zen Arado: video instructions seem good
Xirana Oximoxi: It's like OpenOffice...similar to Microsoft office, but free
Zen Arado: you just allow it to log into other grids then log into Rutgrers grid
Xirana Oximoxi: yes...the instructions are easy
    Xirana Oximoxi: hello Bruce:)
    Zen Arado: Hi Bruce
    Xirana Oximoxi: exactly
    Ewan Bonham: Hi Bruce..
Zen Arado: can I use same name as SL?
Xirana Oximoxi: we were talking about Adam's project at OpenSim
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, everyone -- sory to b late but was on the phone with our farmer. . . big business stuff going on here.
Xirana Oximoxi: I have done, Zen
Bruce Mowbray listens to catch the drift.
    Bleu Oleander: hi Bruce
    Xirana Oximoxi: http://rci.rutgers.edu/~beetham/art_history_SL/
Bleu Oleander: talking about Adams project in OpenSim
Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh! Oh my oh my ohmy!
Zen Arado: looks very similar to SL
    Xirana Oximoxi: yes:)
Bleu Oleander: have to check into RL ... take care
Zen Arado: amazed you can use same viewer
Xirana Oximoxi: but I think it's limited to the university
    Bruce Mowbray: Be well, Bleu!
Bleu Oleander: I have the log for Eliza (waves to Eliza)
    Bleu Oleander: bye bye
    Zen Arado: byee Bleu
Xirana Oximoxi: bye bye Bley!! have a nice day
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Actually, I really need to get into town -- to conclude this farming business. . . so I will also be gone.
Bruce Mowbray: Walk in beauty and joy, my friends.
    Zen Arado: kk byee bruce
Xirana Oximoxi: bye Bruce! nice day to you too:)
    Ewan Bonham: Bye Bruce
Zen Arado: I might try this opensim
Xirana Oximoxi: I have tried too...:)
    Zen Arado: not many users

    Xirana Oximoxi: voilà!!! Eliza!! :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: omgoodness.... oops.... apologies
    Ewan Bonham: Hi Eliza!
Xirana Oximoxi: hello Eliza...we were missing you:)
Zen Arado: voila la femme :)
    Zen Arado: Hi Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to see you all!
    Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: we were just going to Opensim
Zen Arado: never to return :)
Xirana Oximoxi: hehe..I am sure we will return!! :)
Eliza Madrigal: what?! but I'm just a little late... said I was sorry...
    Eliza Madrigal: hahha
    Xirana Oximoxi: more fun here:)
Zen Arado: yeh not many there
Eliza Madrigal: I'm not clear about the difference in traveling boundaries there
Zen Arado: total users 103 it says
Xirana Oximoxi: ahh then it must be that is limited to each organisation
Zen Arado: well we could start a pab there then
    Zen Arado: pab 2
Eliza Madrigal: years ago I signed on an eliza madrigal avie there...
Eliza Madrigal: she is pretty odd looking
    Zen Arado: Hi San :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi San
    Santoshima Resident: mornin'

    --BELL--

Xirana Oximoxi: yes... no clothing shops...and can not change the panties either...they look like my grandmother's :))
    Xirana Oximoxi: hi San :)
    Santoshima Resident: hi
Eliza Madrigal: it isn't a bad idea to think about though... will definitely want to see the art endeavors
Zen Arado: the Rutger's place might be full of students
Xirana Oximoxi: I suppose they go there when they prepare an event...I've been twice an noone there
Eliza Madrigal: am just glad to see that universities are still plugging away at ways to use this tech
    Alfred Kelberry: eliz1 :)
Zen Arado: this book is putting me off SL
    Eliza Madrigal: hello Aflred :)
    Alfred Kelberry: er... eliza ;)

Xirana Oximoxi: yes, it's interesting to try all new possibilities

    Santoshima Resident: which book, Zen?
    Zen Arado: (Digitally Divided Self)
Eliza Madrigal: the digitized self book ?
    Alfred Kelberry: got too excited
Santoshima Resident: oh, yes, reading at present
    Xirana Oximoxi: which book?
    Santoshima Resident: see above ^
Eliza Madrigal: It may be safest to use SL when one is skeptical of it :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: ohh why, Zen?
    Zen Arado: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Digitally-Di...4264525&sr=8-1

Zen Arado: he says it is impoverishing our life
Zen Arado: spending too much time online

Eliza Madrigal: there are a few ways to look at it, because say, even if one themselves boycotted as much tech as they could, the society we swim in is going that way...
Zen Arado: yeh we need to take a critical look at the book
Xirana Oximoxi: well...I suppose it depends on what are you spending your time online too
Eliza Madrigal: and there are transition points where people learn to use the new tech ... maybe excess at first... balancing later maybe
    Eliza Madrigal: yes Xiri
Santoshima Resident: sure, need for balance
Santoshima Resident: otherwise, any compulsiveness is exagerated / can be addictive
    Santoshima Resident: (speaking from experience)
Zen Arado: we should all read this and have a tgeme meeting on it
Xirana Oximoxi: for me internet has allowed me to study again
    Santoshima Resident: :)
Zen Arado: it's a very important topic

Alfred Kelberry: btw, wozniak predicts serious problems in the next 5 years related to cloud computing and consequent loss of ownership over our data
Eliza Madrigal nods Xiri... it is double edged
Xirana Oximoxi: yes, it's an interesting subject..I agree
    Eliza Madrigal: maybe quadruple edged
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
Eliza Madrigal: loss of ownership over our bits...
    Zen Arado: octuple?
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, including our identities in sl

Zen Arado: we neglect RL life is problem
Ewan Bonham: It should be a blend..
Santoshima Resident: world away from computer
Eliza Madrigal: I love this topic, with or without reading the book... would like to read it though

Zen Arado: I purposely didn't go into SL all weekend
Zen Arado: and found myself bored
    Santoshima Resident: hmm
    Alfred Kelberry: zen :)
    Zen Arado: SL deprivation symptoms
Ewan Bonham: I see sl as an extension of my rl self
    Santoshima Resident: yup
    Xirana Oximoxi: ahhh Zen!ª :)
    Santoshima Resident: yup to zen
Xirana Oximoxi: I do also see it as an extension of my rl

Eliza Madrigal: Ewan do you ever take 'time outs' from it?
Ewan Bonham: I have taken an occassional day..
Xirana Oximoxi: I can talk and find interesting people...living in a rural area is not easy
Ewan Bonham: But I have a full rl life...
Alfred Kelberry: most people don't realize when they sign up for an online service that the tos basically says: we own your data
Eliza Madrigal: Eos has talked about having intentional 'analog' days
    Santoshima Resident: truly, boxy?
Ewan Bonham: And so normally am only on in the evenings and weekends..
Xirana Oximoxi: boxy, what is the problem about giving our data?
Eliza Madrigal: ah, so your life pace regulates SL for you Ewan
Zen Arado: this true all over the web
Eliza Madrigal: "the gift of structured time"

Xirana Oximoxi: do you think it will be used to control us?
Alfred Kelberry: xiri, it's already being used :)
Ewan Bonham: Yes, I would say so, Eliza...I do not let it take over rl.. but rather enhance it..
Santoshima Resident: it is already used to "control" (snap)
    Xirana Oximoxi: yes, I know...and I don't mind...
Zen Arado: even Amazon knows so much about our reading habits now
Eliza Madrigal: yes... and gmail gives strange 'suggestions' on the side tabs
Zen Arado: they tailor ads from what we say in emails
    Zen Arado: yes
Xirana Oximoxi: for exemple, I would be scared if Franco was still here..or another dictator like him...but, for what do they use our data...to sell things?
Alfred Kelberry: their ultimate goal is to introduce an internet citizen identity matching our rl person

Zen Arado: yeh...if a dictator DID take over....
Zen Arado: how easy to control us

    alice in wonderland roses red.jpeg

    We're painting the roses red,
    We're painting the roses red!

    [All:]

    The queen,
    She likes them red.
She'd see they're not all red,
    She'd raise her voice
And each of us would quickly lose his head!

Since this is the thought we dread...
    We're painting the roses red!
    (Lyrics by Bob Hilliard)

Alfred Kelberry: which is being sold under the name of "personalized internet" :)
    Eliza Madrigal nods... infinite personalization
Xirana Oximoxi: it is easy to control us...but...is it so easy to manipulate us?
Ewan Bonham: TY all.. interesting and applicable dialogue...see you all later...:)
Eliza Madrigal: :) Bye Ewan, nice to see you
    Xirana Oximoxi: bye bye Ewan:)
Zen Arado: even employers look into applicants Facebook use
    Zen Arado: bye Ewan

Eliza Madrigal: right one wonders... who is controlled more, those with active participation or those parked in front of tvs.. not that there isn't overlap but....
Zen Arado: but we don't enter info about ourselves to TV
Xirana Oximoxi: about 'personalised internet'...I prefer to have publicity about books, art and things like this,...some courses, that other things

    --BELL--

    Zen Arado: true Xiri
Eliza Madrigal: there was an actor, who gave info and video of himself, his life, to a large group of film students and said to edit it however they liked....
Zen Arado: I am using an **********Applause!!********** called 'Trueblock' anyway
    Zen Arado: **********Applause!!**********
Zen Arado: ha ha I typed 'app'
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
    Xirana Oximoxi: :))
    Zen Arado: it stops ads
Eliza Madrigal: thought that was pretty interesting, to think of the implications of that... because in life really we edit one another's 'data' all the time, forming and unforming impressions
    Zen Arado: yeh

Xirana Oximoxi: so, do you think it can be used to manipulate us..all the information they have about us?
    Zen Arado: daily censorship
Alfred Kelberry: this new internet identity agenda is a perfect jigsaw puzzle of commerce and government. the former wants better ad targeting, while the latter more control over the citizens.
Zen Arado: well even Amazon can tell if we give up on reading a book and pass that back to authors
    Santoshima Resident: well put, boxy
Eliza Madrigal: yes... remember how much controversy over govt looking into library records of people...

Zen Arado: I find young people so open about themselves on Facebook
Eliza Madrigal: I am so glad not to have had facebook as a teen @@
Xirana Oximoxi: ahhh yes... there they must be really careful
Alfred Kelberry: zen, they grew up in this new environment, ready for the matrix :)
Zen Arado: telling everyone they are now in a relationship with X
Eliza Madrigal: there is a book 'everything bad is good for you'... the idea is that often people go to excess when given the chance, but then learn to self-regulate

Xirana Oximoxi: I guess a new matter must be teached at schools...how to use internet and how to protecty your data
Zen Arado: learn from our mistakes
Alfred Kelberry: in a similar way, people who grew up in a pro capital society, think this is how the world is meant to be: greed and expansion of free market
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Alfred Kelberry: or "free" i should say :)
Zen Arado: more information is liberating too
Eliza Madrigal: somehow the phrase 'shelf life' comes to mind
Eliza Madrigal: we and all our bits "come and go so quickly"

Zen Arado: I don't see talking to people all that different from RL
Eliza Madrigal: has anyone seen the anime "Summer Wars"?
    Zen Arado: in SL
    Zen Arado: nope
    Santoshima Resident: nope
Xirana Oximoxi: in my view, in rl you have more information about the one you are talking..even if you can also be wrong
Eliza Madrigal: maybe it is 'kinds' of information as much as amount
Eliza Madrigal: here is the link to the anime for future reference:
    Eliza Madrigal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_Wars
    Zen Arado: ty Eliza

Xirana Oximoxi: I am thinking specially about very young people talking here in SL ... you can find very nice persons, but also others that can be not so nice
Santoshima Resident: { the term "rl" is such a misnomer } thanks Eliza
Eliza Madrigal: Ohh that was something interesting Philip L talked about at VAI...
Eliza Madrigal: that people were more uncivil in SL before the tech got better with regard to 'presence' and he feels that will continue
    Zen Arado: hmm missed that
Alfred Kelberry: xiri, teens aren't supposed to be nice :)
    Eliza Madrigal: haha Alf
Alfred Kelberry: unless they are eliza's kids :)
Eliza Madrigal: there was a reason I laughed reflexively about that one Alf ;-)
    Alfred Kelberry: hehe
Xirana Oximoxi: yes.... and they can be also here to just have fun...no matter if they hurt or do wrong to another:)
Santoshima Resident: who is Philip L?
    Zen Arado: film looks interesting
Eliza Madrigal: well anyone who got through jr high school knows it isn't SL doing that
Eliza Madrigal: Philip Rosedale... designer SL
    Zen Arado: exactly
    Santoshima Resident: ok, thanks
Alfred Kelberry: when you're a teen, you're a slave of the cool :)

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: he feels that when tech gets better for eye contact and body language, civility will increase more and more
    Eliza Madrigal: not sure
    Zen Arado: me either
    Xirana Oximoxi: me either:)
Eliza Madrigal thinks of how great it would have been to leave jr high for a bit and come back with diff avie... lol
Zen Arado: that is saying tech determines our behaviour too much
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, could be... an anthropology factor maybe
Eliza Madrigal: well the idea is i that people can rant and curse at people in other cars, but prob don't do that as much next to them in line at the store
    Eliza Madrigal nods

Xirana Oximoxi: I will go now...thank you for this interesting chat! have a nice day all!! and see you soon! :-)
    Santoshima Resident: bye Xirana
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks so much Xiri.... appreciate your positive voice and balance :D
Zen Arado: but maybe there are people who want to do that and then use the medium
    Alfred Kelberry: xiri girl :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: :)
    Xirana Oximoxi: bye bye :)
    Zen Arado: byee Xiri ;)
Eliza Madrigal: say a bit more Zen?
    Zen Arado: chicken and egg
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Eliza Madrigal: inner outer :)

Zen Arado: could say a lot about unsociabiity of auto travel
    Zen Arado: too
Zen Arado: maybe lots of tech is more unsocial
Zen Arado: water faucets derpived women of daily gossip at well
    Zen Arado: :)
Eliza Madrigal: and air condition of sitting on the front porch
Alfred Kelberry: zen, they're now all on twitter :)
    Zen Arado: or Facebook
Zen Arado: with cat photos :)
Eliza Madrigal: never enough cat photos...
    Santoshima Resident: what? no puppies?
    Eliza Madrigal: http://www.wimp.com/mischievousgoat/ <--even better
    Zen Arado: them too
    Zen Arado: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: badass :)
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Santoshima Resident: what a great little goat!

Zen Arado: I have FB friend leading a crusade for pigs
Zen Arado: feel guilty eating my bacon and egges
Alfred Kelberry: is it a joyful little baby or a bully in the making? :)
Zen Arado: he has 18 pet pigs
    Santoshima Resident: see "Earthlings": http://video.google.ca/videoplay?doc...72964130308142
    Santoshima Resident: but maybe, later
    Eliza Madrigal: clicks and saves
Santoshima Resident: long and rather realistically bleak
    Zen Arado: yeh I know
Zen Arado: I have through all that
Alfred Kelberry: bacon is meh :)
Zen Arado: lots of cruelty involved
    Santoshima Resident: yes
    Zen Arado: but...
Zen Arado: we have to kill something to live
Alfred Kelberry: lots of cruelty? i am *not* clicking! :)
Santoshima Resident: important to know about the means of the industry.
Eliza Madrigal: guess this is a parallel conversation... bits taken in and given away... consuming and sensitivity re methods
Eliza Madrigal: what we injest, how
Santoshima Resident: yeah, a bit of a shift, sorry
Eliza Madrigal: packaging creating distance ... unlike if one has to kill, themselves, and give thanks for the life... sort of brings the reason for saying grace to the fore
    Zen Arado: yes
    Santoshima Resident: very much so
Santoshima Resident: thanks for this conversation ~ bye for now
    Eliza Madrigal: bye san

Alfred Kelberry: oh, let's congratulate china with 31 gold medals so far! they're so good! :)
    Zen Arado: byee san
Eliza Madrigal: :) Alf... at least you didn't first mention girls hockey
Zen Arado: GB is doing well this time

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: eliza, haven't seen it :)
    Zen Arado: better make dinner
    Zen Arado: byee
