The Guardian for this meeting was Zen Arado. The comments are by Zen Arado.
Zen Arado: Hi Yaku :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hej senji
Yakuzza Lethecus: strange we are at the pavillion
Zen Arado: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: something must be wrong at the lindens :)
Zen Arado: sometimes I get away with staying here
Yakuzza Lethecus: :)
Zen Arado: Maybe they are working with the new viewer
Yakuzza Lethecus: hope you have a good afternoon with some tea and cookies or what ever comfort food you like ?
Zen Arado: I had a Danish with vanilla :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: very good comfort food, hey bleu
Viewers:
Zen Arado: They seem to be having problems with firestorm
Zen Arado: Hi Bleu :)
Bleu Oleander: hiya
Zen Arado: I haven't had any problems with the Linden lab's viewer
Bleu Oleander: Zen, I like the way you solved your dream :)
Zen Arado: It just updates itself every now and then
Bleu Oleander: very nice
Zen Arado: Thanks Bleu
Zen Arado: I didn't really solve it I just gave it some concrete form :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: i just did the update to the 4.4.2 of firestorm, no issues but with 4.4.1 i coulldn´t see avatars sometimes and had other strange issues
Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: the problem of representing the elements of the dream
Bleu Oleander: I have no problems with the LL V3
Zen Arado: The words and being driven around in the car were the main things
Bleu Oleander: what is it about firestorm that everyone tries to use it?
Zen Arado: I don't know it baffles me too
Bleu Oleander: strange
Zen Arado: And people talk about the Linden lab's viewer although they haven't tried it for about two versions
Bleu Oleander: right
Zen Arado: I think the present version is great
Bleu Oleander: me too
Zen Arado: I love the way it highlights current IMs in red
Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: So you know someone has said something again
Bleu Oleander: yes very helpful
Zen Arado: And you can delete authors of IMs after you have stopped talking to them
Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: So you don't finish up with everything cluttered
Bleu Oleander: exactly
Zen Arado: I remember little tabs in Phoenix along the bottom that moved out of sight :-)
Zen Arado: So someone was IMing you and you didn't know :-)
Bleu Oleander: I've never felt the need to use other viewers
Zen Arado: I tried firestorm for a while and found it very buggy
Zen Arado: It stopped recording my speech when I was recording a chat log at Kira
Zen Arado: And it didn't work with Microsoft skyline
Zen Arado: It stopped me uploading photographs
Zen Arado: And it took me ages to discover that that was the reason
Zen Arado: It seems too complicated as well
Bleu Oleander: for me too
Zen Arado: Why do you have to worry about male rendering and stuff like that?
Bleu Oleander: perhaps its related on individual graphics cards
Zen Arado: Maybe we are just too sensible Bleu :-)
Bleu Oleander: haha there's a concept!
Zen Arado: I have enough problems without worrying about firestorm
Zen Arado: :-)
Bleu Oleander: :)
DAW's
Zen Arado: I'm trying to get into using digital audio workstations and it's like I opened a real can of worms
Zen Arado: there are so many programs out there
Zen Arado: and add-ons
Bleu Oleander: is that like garageband type programs?
Zen Arado: yes
Zen Arado: I bought a little MIDI keyboard so I could add notes
Bleu Oleander: nice
Bleu Oleander: I want to do that
Zen Arado: but now I wished I had bought a better one :-)
Bleu Oleander: ah :)
Zen Arado: you can waste a lot of money buying stuff because you don't really know what you want
Bleu Oleander: definitely
Zen Arado: and this morning I noticed a book about writing melodies
Zen Arado: and I realise I don't know very much about that :-)
Bleu Oleander: hard to know so many different programs
Zen Arado: but it will be fun learning all of this
Zen Arado: yes it's a real minefield for the inexperienced
Bleu Oleander: collaboration is necessary these days
Yakuzza Lethecus: can you play piano/keyboard ?
Zen Arado: it's like learning to use a photo program from scratch
Bleu Oleander: I can a little bit
Zen Arado: lots of similarities
Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: no, I only played guitar
Zen Arado: the author of the book I was reading was saying that people start with chords on a guitar but then they try to squeeze a melody onto that and it becomes restricted
Zen Arado: I was just reading the intro to the book
Bleu Oleander: I always begin the other way round
Zen Arado: I'm not sure I could even write melodies
Zen Arado: with a Mac you can progress to a programme called Logic pro
Zen Arado: I think that's what they call it
Bleu Oleander: I've heard of that
Zen Arado: I have started with one called Mixcraft
Bleu Oleander: I like trying to push simple programs further
Zen Arado: and I'm not going to buy another one until I find out more because they start to become very expensive
Bleu Oleander: yes
Zen Arado: yes although I can see the limitations of this program already
Bleu Oleander: I've done all my videos using iMovie and GarageBand
Zen Arado: I have spent hours watching videos on YouTube as well :-)
Zen Arado: even getting things to work on my computer was hard enough
Bleu Oleander: other buy expensive programs and they use already installed tricks ... somehow look the same
Zen Arado: but I have the keyboard working now with not too much latency
Zen Arado: yes you can just use the provided loops
Zen Arado: and there are thousands of them
Bleu Oleander: Garageband comes with an on-screen keyboard and the option of used the computer keyboard
Zen Arado: but it's nice to do your own stuff
Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: comes off more original I think
Zen Arado: yes I wonder why Mixcraft doesn't let you use your computer keyboard because that would be just as easy to me or easier than having to plug in a keyboard
Zen Arado: I find keyboard is difficult anyway because my hands are so weak
Bleu Oleander: takes a little getting used to, especially if you play piano
Zen Arado: I couldn't play chords
Zen Arado: there are a little analogue synthesisers you can buy that you can have great fun with
Zen Arado: but more useful for electronic music
Zen Arado: I'm not even sure what kind of music I want to make
Zen Arado: I managed to add voice to a track
Zen Arado: but I disguised it by raising the pitch :-)
Bleu Oleander: it's amazing to see how many "instruments" you can find in your kitchen lol
Zen Arado: it sounds like a woman :-)
Bleu Oleander: :)
Zen Arado: yes I was thinking of just singing notes and using that as an input because you can change it to another kind of
Zen Arado: I don't know what the word is
Bleu Oleander: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: last year i had a phase when i used my old keyboard again, i saw a program called synthesia and thought it might be fun to play real songs in a gamelike environment
Bleu Oleander: fun
Zen Arado: yes why not Yaku
Yakuzza Lethecus: https://www.synthesiagame.com/
Zen Arado: there is almost more music written for computer games than anything else I read this morning
Zen Arado: there are a bewildering range of options out there
Zen Arado: just too much to choose from
Bleu Oleander: indeed
Zen Arado: as soon as I buy something I wish I hadn't bought it and bought something else but I hadn't thought of :-)
Bleu Oleander: ha!
Zen Arado: so you need to give purchases a lot of thought
Zen Arado: but I tried four different DAW's and then bought one
Bleu Oleander: if you wait long enough you no longer need to buy it
Zen Arado: and as soon as I did that I found another six
Zen Arado: that's true Bleu
Zen Arado: there is one called Ableton that I really like the thought of
Bleu Oleander: I add books to my "cart" and let them sit there a while and I find that I decide I don't need most of them lol
Zen Arado: it really looks very easy to use but quite expensive
Zen Arado: yes I seem to have overcome the book buying habit to a large extent
Zen Arado: or at least I have cut down :-)
Zen Arado: Kindle can be a curse
Bleu Oleander: I still buy as many but I get a better selection that way
Bleu Oleander: more books that I really want
Zen Arado: I see books like that one you mentioned last night that would be really interesting but I know very well that I would never finish it
Bleu Oleander: yes Kindle gives me a fast trigger finger lol
Zen Arado: it takes a lot of time to read books like that
Zen Arado: I wonder if people will stop writing long books in the future because people don't have the patience to read them anymore
Bleu Oleander: It's a great book ... try listening to him on a video first
Zen Arado: yes may be
Zen Arado: when I was doing a dissertation I kind of got into the habit of skimming books like that to get the main point
Bleu Oleander: it's made me think diferently about how I think
Zen Arado: or main points
Bleu Oleander: well have to get to work
Zen Arado: but sometimes you have to read books in depth to understand them properly
Bleu Oleander: nice chatting with you both
Bleu Oleander: take care
Zen Arado: okay thanks for coming Bleu
Yakuzza Lethecus: have a good day bleu
Bleu Oleander: byeee
Yakuzza Lethecus: and cool weather :)
Zen Arado: byee
Bleu Oleander: haha 112 today :(
Zen Arado: really hot in Arizona I saw it on the news
Yakuzza Lethecus: me too
Zen Arado: and lots of fires
Bleu Oleander: yes .... but "it's a dry heat"
Bleu Oleander: lol
Bleu Oleander: byeee
Zen Arado: byee
Yakuzza Lethecus: i will also leave, have a good afternoon zen
Zen Arado: okay Yaku
Zen Arado: thanks for coming byee
