Korel Laloix: Great to hear that Cat... it does make a lot of difference.
Catrinamonblue Resident: nods :)
Catrinamonblue Resident: the recorder has started now so will leave that subject alone now :)
Korel Laloix: And there are some opportunities in all of this as well.. new things about yourself to learn and work on.
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes :)
DR42 Resident: ηαмαѕтє
Korel Laloix: new adventures... and maybe down the line something more for you.
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Chiff
Korel Laloix: Namaskar Chiff
DR42 Resident: Every time I see Namaskar I think of a local restaurant.
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Korel Laloix: not sure the difference.. but my ex from Pune said that instead of namaste most of the time.
Korel Laloix: Never figured out the difference though.
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, ladies.
DR42 Resident: http://www.namaskarcuisine.com/
Korel Laloix: osiyo Bruce
DR42 Resident: Bruce Almighty!
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi Bruce :)
Bruce Mowbray adjusts sun setting for sunset.
Korel Laloix: Oh.. that is nice Bruce.. thanks for the suggestion.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, I had an ulterior motive, actually....
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: I hope we are not that unsightly.
Bruce Mowbray: This evening will be one of four times per year that Manhattanhedge occurs.
Korel Laloix: What does that mean?
Bruce Mowbray: and I've been looking for live TV coverage of it -- without success.
Bruce Mowbray: It's when the sun sets in a place on the horizon that is precisely in line with the grid of Manhattan streets -- east/west, of course.
DR42 Resident: Korel, my friend Wiki says: Namaskar/Namaskaram) is a common spoken valediction or salutation originating from the Hindus in the Indian Subcontinent. It is a customary greeting when individuals meet, and a valediction upon their parting. A non-contact form of salutation is traditionally preferred in India and Nepal; Namaste is the most common form of such a salutation.
Korel Laloix: So the sunset goes all the way through the city vs stopping on buildings?
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, it can be viewed by looking west on certain streets...
Korel Laloix: Thanks both.
Bruce Mowbray: only happens twice a year for sunsets, and twice a year for sun-rises, also.
Korel Laloix: Sort of like some of the ancient monuments in our deserts here and other places in the world.
Bruce Mowbray: Some special events are planned at area museums and such, but nothing on live TV that I can find.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes! Just like at Stonehenge.... also.
Korel Laloix: Sounds like a good excuse for a margarita.
Bruce Mowbray: Alignment with the cosmos!
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
DR42 Resident: And if the streets had not been aligned exactly as they are, then it would be a different day.
Korel Laloix: Well a good one at least.
Korel Laloix: That makes sense.
Bruce Mowbray: yeppers, that makes sense.
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Korel Laloix: Actually had a nice marg over lunch.... was lovely.
DR42 Resident: Bruce, you are from the city?
Bruce Mowbray: Not from the city, but have visited there many times...
DR42 Resident used to live across the street from the Forbes Building.
Bruce Mowbray returns to midday sun setting.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh! Wow!
Bruce Mowbray: Then you might have seen Manhattanhenge?
DR42 Resident: Actually, no.
DR42 Resident: Sorry
Korel Laloix: Would love to get up to NY in the Summer.
Korel Laloix: Sounds like a nice place to visit, but not live.
Bruce Mowbray: My preferred times for visiting are late May and early October.
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, San!
DR42 Resident would love to be anywhere other than NYC in the Summer.
Catrinamonblue Resident: Hi San
Bruce Mowbray: yeppers, quite hot and sweltery in the summer.
Bruce Mowbray: better to be somewhere you can catch a breeze.
Santoshima Resident: hi :)
Korel Laloix: Sounds lovely... hot and sweltery... smiles
Bruce Mowbray: Seems that Bleu has mis-typed the month on the schedule board.... This IS July, isn't it?
Catrinamonblue Resident: looks :)
Korel Laloix: I hope so, else I am in trouble.
DR42 Resident: Maybe in your universe.
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Santoshima Resident: ?
Bruce Mowbray: Maybe Bleu's trying to give us an example of hypocrisy . . . on the board, I mean.
Korel Laloix: She can join my group then.
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Santoshima Resident: looks like an honest typo
Santoshima Resident: { i.e. no ill intent }
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm... So, hypocrisy is an intentional dishonesty. . . Seems so to moi, anyway.
Catrinamonblue Resident: nods
Korel Laloix: But i am picky about the types of hypocrites I let in though.
Bruce Mowbray: heh heh. Only honest hypocrites, Kori?
DR42 Resident: Does the lack of ill intent mean no harm to one's karma?
Korel Laloix: Only stylish ones... smiles
Bruce Mowbray: knowing nothing about karma, Bruce listens intently....
Santoshima Resident: ditto ...
Korel Laloix: We are all hypocrites.
Bruce Mowbray: So, we all deceive others with intent?
Korel Laloix: It is just a matter of how much we try to elevate ourselves above others that sets us off as real idiots.
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm.
Korel Laloix: Not sure about intent.
Bruce Mowbray: (pretending to be one thing while actually being another?)
Korel Laloix: I think a lot of people are without thinking of it.
Bruce Mowbray: Mindless hypocrisy, then, Kori?
Korel Laloix: I think that might be just more like regular lying.
Catrinamonblue Resident: I sometimes think strong emotion plays a part in the lie, blocks our ability to see past the moment of emotion
Korel Laloix: Yes.. like people that complain about smokers in public but don't have an issue talking loudly on the cellphones in public.
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: Both make the public place less pleasant for others.
Bruce Mowbray is afk for a sec -- gotta get the mail...
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Korel Laloix: "get the mail"... also known as "getting another drink" i bet... smiles
Bruce Mowbray: [back]
Santoshima Resident: brb ... aka making some lunch ...
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Korel Laloix smiles
Bruce Mowbray: Nope, Kori -- not another drink. My typist gave up alcohol altogether when he went vegan.
Bruce Mowbray: It occurred to me - on the way to the mailbox - that hypocrisy might be a "modeling" problem.
Bruce Mowbray: Example?
Korel Laloix: So two questions then?... why vegan and since booze is all vegi, why give that up?
Bruce Mowbray: Suppose I'm using GOOGLE Earth....
Bruce Mowbray: will be happy to answer in a sec, Kori...
Korel Laloix: ok
Bruce Mowbray: Suppose I'm using that application,
Bruce Mowbray: and I want to see my backyard.
Catrinamonblue Resident: (been there done that :))
Bruce Mowbray: But I have the resolution set at a setting to see whole continents.
Bruce Mowbray: I will NOT be able to see the garden hose that I left out in the yard -- for months.
Bruce Mowbray: Right?
Bruce Mowbray: So would GOOGLE be considered "hypocritical" just because I'm using a different scale of model?
Catrinamonblue Resident: I don't think so
Bruce Mowbray: Me neither, Cat.
Catrinamonblue Resident: Google had no ill intent behind it, it was your setting not theirs
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, it was MY setting (my reception parameters) for their application... and I'd need to make adjustments...
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: May I give another analogy?
Korel Laloix: Sure.
Bruce Mowbray: I don't mean to step on anyone's toes now...
Catrinamonblue Resident: hypocrisy for me has to do with the intent behind the action
Catrinamonblue Resident: go ahead :)
Bruce Mowbray: Wqell, suppose you were writing the Gospel of John...
DR42 Resident: I had a wonderful idea for a project..... NPR had coverage of the "Slow TV" in Norway, 135 hours of continuous coverage of a ferry trip. And they have done others, like an afternoon splitting firewood followed by 8 hours of watching the fire burn. How about a loop of streaming video from contributors of a clock running. In their house, in SL, whatever.....
Bruce Mowbray: and you wanted to "model" God....
Bruce Mowbray: John specifically does this through "signs"
Bruce Mowbray: which we would call "miracles."
Bruce Mowbray: But does that model WORK nowadays?
Bruce Mowbray listens.
Catrinamonblue Resident: yes it does :)
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Ha -- GOOD ANSWER!
Catrinamonblue Resident: it all has to do with intention, whether the deception is to cause harm or not
Bruce Mowbray: again, it probably works if your reception parameters are set for it.
Korel Laloix: I think it is good at modeling how He acts, but not now we perceive.
Korel Laloix: Chiff.. what was that you were saying?
DR42 Resident: Where do the Keepers of the faith, the "devil's advocates" fit into that model?
Bruce Mowbray: John puts Devil's Advocates all over the place...
DR42 Resident: A random thought about having a group project.
Bruce Mowbray listens.
DR42 Resident: Sorry, my fingers don't work after I drink a banana smoothie!
Catrinamonblue Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: What was your random project, Chiff?
DR42 Resident: A live stream of ticking clocks. Each gets to choose the clock or clocks they want in the stream.
Bruce Mowbray listens for more on the ticking clocks and the stream.
DR42 Resident: I have 2 antique clocks that I would stream watching the internals of them.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh I see! Live video streaming of your clocks.
DR42 Resident: Maybe a digital clock, and an old mechanical "digital" clock.
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, steve.
Korel Laloix: Heya
DR42 Resident: Yes, but everyone gets to choose the clocks that they want to show.
Catrinamonblue Resident: lovely dress Steve :)
Korel Laloix: Sounds like something that silly Warhol guy would do... but sounds fun.
Bruce Mowbray: Then I could stream a vid of my wrist watch, for example.
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks
DR42 Resident: Sure, if that was what you wanted.
Bruce Mowbray ponders "silly" Warhol dude.
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: My typist has two atomic clocks in his home.
DR42 Resident has looked at one of the real "Tomato Soup" paintings.
Korel Laloix: We had to watch Kiss, Eat and Sleep for an art class I took... silly
Korel Laloix: Why two?
DR42 Resident: Do they have some sort of display? maybe a vid of them "running"....
Bruce Mowbray listens intently.
Bruce Mowbray: One in the living room and the other in the bedroom.
Bruce Mowbray: so my typist doesn't have to run from one room to the other to see what the atomic time is.
DR42 Resident: Yes, if one fails, you still can know the current time.
DR42 Resident: Although I wonder why he/she would need to see what the time is with that level of accuracy.
Bruce Mowbray: (The atomic clock in the bedroom is three seconds ahead of the TV time, btw.)
Korel Laloix: How big is an atomic clock?
Bruce Mowbray: Normal size -- bought them both at Wal-Mart.
Bruce Mowbray: They hang on the wall.
Santoshima Resident: * back
Bruce Mowbray: wb, San!
Santoshima Resident: ty, will read
Korel Laloix: wow... thought things like that required a huge set up to get the readings off of the atoms.
Bruce Mowbray: Atomic clocks sell for about $12....
DR42 Resident: Did you hear that they wanted to change the standard for atomic clocks to another method? They can get an additional digit of accuracy, from 15 to 17 digits.
Bruce Mowbray: They check in with the cesium clock in Colorado several times a day and up-date themselves.
DR42 Resident: 16 to 17.
Bruce Mowbray: Really, Chiff?
Bruce Mowbray ponders hypocritical clocks.
Korel Laloix: OH Ok.. so it just reads a signal from one, not actually one.
DR42 Resident: Yes, replace cesium with strontium.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, they read a signal from the clock in Colorado.
DR42 Resident: NPR on Wednesday.
DR42 Resident: Said it would "save lives", but I cannot imagine how.
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmm. Well, cesium is accurate to something like a second in three billion years... so, I agree, we need a better timepiece.
Korel Laloix: Well why not?.. another order of magnitude is always great for research... lol.. would love to see the budget justification for that.
Bruce Mowbray makes note to check out the NPR report.
I did a search at the NPR site but could only find older programs referring to the atomic clock.
DR42 Resident: GPS could be more accurate, so we could deliver bombs within the sub inch range rather than within just a foot.
Bruce Mowbray: Sounds to me like some scientist is VERY literal about the hypocrisy of clocks.
Bruce Mowbray: My typist's farmer plants his soybeans using GPS -- to within one-quarter of an inch depth.
stevenaia Michinaga: in measuring time, "mine's smaller" is what counts
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Korel Laloix: There are whole peoples being killed in the world today and others are worrying about time like that... interesting separation of thinking.
DR42 Resident: Yes, so does need to plant it within +- less than a millimeter?
Bruce Mowbray: It has something to do with germination - and whether the sprout is damaged by having to break through the earth's crust.
Catrinamonblue Resident: brb
Korel Laloix: But I guess there are things that are important to me that others don't care about either.
Bruce Mowbray: (deep enough for the root to get a good hold, but shallow enough for the sprout not to have too much earth to break through).
DR42 Resident: No kidding. Hypocrisy. Make clocks more accurate, so we can kill people with precision, but forget helping them get food. Although the GPS thing for planting seems strangely interesting.
Bruce Mowbray: http://hermitdog.com/planting2013/planting_2013.html
Bruce Mowbray: (My typist's farmer.)
DR42 Resident: How can that be corrected and controlled with GPS? it would seem that some sort of local vision system could be better at the correct depth, since the depth can change so much from year to year, or month to month.
Catrinamonblue Resident: back and listening
Bruce Mowbray: As I understand it, the lay of the field varies from foot to foot, so positioning systems are required for accuracy of depth all along the way.
Bruce Mowbray: They actually do GPS in 3 dimensions.
Catrinamonblue Resident: neat
stevenaia Michinaga: well they better if the earth is truly round
Bruce Mowbray: They do lay field drainage with only two dimensions, though -- using lasers.
Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Ari!
Arisia Vita: greetings all
stevenaia Michinaga: Hi Ari
Santoshima Resident: hi Ari :)
Bruce Mowbray: GTSYA!
Catrinamonblue Resident: hello Ari, it warmed my heart to see you dot appear on the map :)
Arisia Vita: ty all
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: Bozho
DR42 Resident: I could understand the 2D use for planting, but I cannot wrap my head about the 3D aspect.
Bruce Mowbray: (a measurement east/west, another measurement north/south, and a third one up/down).
Bruce Mowbray: [No hypocrisy allowed when planting soybeans!]
Korel Laloix: just as long at it helps harvest chocolate and coffee I am very supportive.
DR42 Resident: I understand that, it is how the elevation can be so accurately tracked to get the seed depth correct. I think vision systems would do better.
Bruce Mowbray ponders planting cocoa and coffee beans in Ohio.
Santoshima Resident: how about a few trees?
Korel Laloix: Lovely thought for sure.
Bruce Mowbray: The vision systems would work (as with laying drainage) if the lay of the field were constant... but it varies with every foot. With drainage, what matters is the slope of the drain - not whether it is parallel with the surface (as with planting).
Bruce Mowbray: Only 8 minutes left to chime in about atomic clocks, GPS, or Manhattanhenge.
Korel Laloix: I don't have any comments about that... but.. I do have something else.
Catrinamonblue Resident: must go make some dinner :) bye guys :)
Bruce Mowbray: http://www.nbcnews.com/science/last-manhattanhenge-sunset-2013-nyc-tonight-6C10626147
Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now, Cat!
Korel Laloix: Ciao
DR42 Resident: bye
Bruce Mowbray: What is it, Kori?
Korel Laloix: Well.. for the first time in my life, I remembered a part of a dream that was not a nightmare.
Korel Laloix: Well part of one.
Korel Laloix: So anyone want to hear it?.
Bruce Mowbray: Wonderful!
Bruce Mowbray: I want to hear it!
Santoshima Resident: ok
Korel Laloix: Don't get your hopes up.... I typed this into a chat with a friend before, so will just cut and paste it into chat now.
Bruce Mowbray: kk.
Korel Laloix: Korel Laloix: I dreamt I was working in some sort of production lab making this ulta expensive nearly indestructible cloth. Korel Laloix: And our first customer was that rich guy character from the Iron Man movies..... he bought a comforter made of the stuff for a "full" sized bed.
Korel Laloix: Korel Laloix: And I had to deliver it.... so I went there to the room which was a library with low lights that had a bed in the back. Korel Laloix: So I made the bed.. and then decided I wanted to know what it would be like in a millions of dollars bed.... so magically I appeared in some new pajamas.... might have been made of the material... not sure.
Korel Laloix: Korel Laloix: So then.. he comes in and noticed me in the bed and says something like... Hey.. .. you can't sleep in my hundred million dollar bed. Korel Laloix: And I reply... hey you can't afford to sleep in your hundred million dollar bed with me.... (suggestively)
Korel Laloix: And that was the end.
Bruce Mowbray: Wow!
Korel Laloix: And that was all... lol
DR42 Resident: lol
DR42 Resident: That was great!
Korel Laloix: Great.. my first dream and I remember.... it is scifi .. which I hate... and I am straight in it... wtf?
Korel Laloix: lol
Santoshima Resident: :)
Bruce Mowbray: Amazing how dreams might make "hypocrites" of us all?
Bruce Mowbray: or not...?
DR42 Resident: Are you "straight" in it" or "Bi"?
Korel Laloix: I remembered that coming off my migraine meds... so not sure how that effected things.
Bruce Mowbray: I must also be gone, folks.
Korel Laloix: Take care.
Santoshima Resident: ditto, bye
Korel Laloix: Ciao
DR42 Resident: bye
Bruce Mowbray: I wish you all a Happy Manhattanhenge, wherever you may be - and whatever time your clocks might say.
Santoshima Resident: will watch for your answer Korel, re: straight /bi conundrum
Santoshima Resident: happy atomic clocks all
Bruce Mowbray dies from laughing....
stevenaia Michinaga: bye Bruce
Arisia Vita: it's been great being with you all
stevenaia Michinaga: time to light the BBQ
DR42 Resident: Did people know there are actual sitting cushions under the water?
Korel Laloix smiles
DR42 Resident: Me, too, but for me, it is push the button on the gas grill.
stevenaia Michinaga: you can make them appear too
stevenaia Michinaga: type "/9 help"
DR42 Resident: I de-rendered the water and saw them.
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
--BELL--
Korel Laloix: i sit around with everything derendered.
Korel Laloix: Speeds them up quite a lot.
DR42 Resident: Korel it seems that you are never what you expected in your dreams, no?
stevenaia Michinaga: this is no ordinary Playgota
Korel Laloix: No...in the nightmares that I remember I am exactly me.
stevenaia Michinaga: bye for now
Korel Laloix: This is the first non-nightmare I have ever remembered.
Korel Laloix: Ciao
DR42 Resident: When I was exploring SL10B regions, I would de-render entire buildings with the click of a finger!
Korel Laloix: I just derender everything all he time.
Korel Laloix: Works far better for me.
Korel Laloix: When I get a new contract though, I hope to have a good enough connection to do SL normally again.
DR42 Resident: Me, too.
DR42 Resident: I often switch to radegast, as it places way lower demand on the PC and the network. I can run 4 copies and still have less load than the SL or Firestorm viewers.
Korel Laloix: I agree.. .but this lets me do the full thing if I want to take the time to rez stuff.
Korel Laloix: When I am way out in the middle of nowhere though and barely getting a signal, I go to a text only viewer.
DR42 Resident: Well, back to building.....
Korel Laloix smiles
Korel Laloix: OK.. take care.
DR42 Resident: Take care. We should talk about your dream more.
Korel Laloix: Back to the books.
Korel Laloix: If you like.. smiles
DR42 Resident: I like.
Korel Laloix: Ciao bella
