2013.07.30 19:00 - game of rainbows

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

    Eos Amaterasu: Lila Rainbowmatter
    Lila Darkmatter: Sir Thin Place
    Lila Darkmatter: :) Hello
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Lila
Lila Darkmatter: How is the night?
Eos Amaterasu: Dark with occasional bird sounds
Lila Darkmatter: you just reminded me actually that this morning began with a rainbow
    Lila Darkmatter: I'd forgotten
    Eos Amaterasu: pretty cosmic :-)
    Lila Darkmatter: :)
    Eos Amaterasu: rainbow fingered dawn
Lila Darkmatter: I thought, before I saw it, that it was the sort of day one might see a rainbow - then I wondered, if I'd seen it without consciously knowing, first
Eos Amaterasu: maybe you are the source of rainbows
    Lila Darkmatter digs in inventory
Eos Amaterasu: (wait till your kids find out :-)
    Lila Darkmatter laughs
Eos Amaterasu: they will want to blow colored bubbles through you

    Eos Amaterasu: games and gaming?
    Lila Darkmatter: yes
    Eos Amaterasu: a huge topic
Lila Darkmatter: sorry for the pause before... was quite an image you painted, sort of interrupted thoughts :)
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Lila Darkmatter: do you "game" ?
Eos Amaterasu: in some ways, but maybe play more than game....
Eos Amaterasu: I think I like games that create a kind of container for stretching out in certain ways
Eos Amaterasu: plus a container for kinds of sociability
Lila Darkmatter: games that make room?
Eos Amaterasu: I suppose. I liked playing tennis, not really to win, but to play within the form, and to also get good at the form
Eos Amaterasu: but also a way of enjoying it with someone
Eos Amaterasu: I think a lot of card games are like that
Eos Amaterasu: my mom likes bridge

    --BELL--

Lila Darkmatter: hm... I like tennis too, for its challenge and yet not quite having all the dynamics of a team sport
Lila Darkmatter: have seen that Gates and Buffet play bridge :)
Eos Amaterasu: there's enjoyment in physically and spiritedly stretching out in sports type games
Eos Amaterasu: come to the edge of your psychosomatic body
Eos Amaterasu: There's little details like throwing a football so it spins just right
Lila Darkmatter: and that someone who also plays notices that spin

Eos Amaterasu: Were you and the rainbow playing games?
Lila Darkmatter: :) we may have been playing hide and seek
Lila Darkmatter: not sure which was hiding or seeking
Eos Amaterasu: peek a boo is one of the earliest baby games (that i like to play, at least)
Eos Amaterasu: hah hah - appearance!
Eos Amaterasu: hah hah - gone!
    Lila Darkmatter: so true
Lila Darkmatter: and the wild giggle that errupts
Eos Amaterasu: wonder where it comes from?
Eos Amaterasu: somehow we seem to love losing our footing :-)

Lila Darkmatter: yes! and with the slight throwing of a child in the air...
    Eos Amaterasu: yes, so exciting!
Lila Darkmatter: fear and joy at once
Eos Amaterasu: exciting and safe and a little dangerous, yes
    Eos Amaterasu: coming aliveness
Lila Darkmatter: or in a race, completely in it
Lila Darkmatter: so many things set aside, forgotten, safe to do so
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Para!
    Lila Darkmatter: Hi Paradise :)
    Lila Darkmatter: so elegantly dressed
Paradise Tennant: smiles waves and listens :)
Lila Darkmatter: we've just been considering about childhood games
Eos Amaterasu: and aliveness in gaming
    Paradise Tennant: yes great topic
Eos Amaterasu: the rules create safety for some danger, in a way
Eos Amaterasu: like throwing a baby or child in the air
Paradise Tennant: wonders why .. I remember feeling things or experiencing things more wholly as a child .. was there less distraction
Paradise Tennant: were we more in the game :)
    Lila Darkmatter: maybe, all in
    Lila Darkmatter: yes
    Lila Darkmatter: Hi Stevenaia :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: waves

    --BELL--

Lila Darkmatter: my favorite were pool games... like marco polo , which the kids and I sometimes play in food markets now
    Eos Amaterasu: hi stevenaia
    Eos Amaterasu listens and imagines
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Eos
Lila Darkmatter: kind of a balance to gaming, in that if one takes it too seriously then it is hard to really enjoy with others but if not seriously enough, why play
Paradise Tennant: how do you play marco polo
Eos Amaterasu: get really good at something that is not quite RL
stevenaia Michinaga: and in a market
Lila Darkmatter: haha... I guess it is a variation of hide and seek... one person would close their eyes and everyone would move around the pool to be tagged
stevenaia Michinaga: I thought you play it blindfolded
Lila Darkmatter: yes... in a market if kids can't find mom they yell "marco"
    Lila Darkmatter: :P
Lila Darkmatter: then mom yells back... "polo" to be found
stevenaia Michinaga: wonders how Lila hides from her children in a market
Lila Darkmatter: maybe a fun retreat activity
    Lila Darkmatter: haha
    Eos Amaterasu:
        urgent optimism
        social fabric
        blissful productivity
        epic meaning

Eos Amaterasu: how Jane McGonigal characterizes gamers
Eos Amaterasu: optimism: you could win
Eos Amaterasu: social fabric: highly social
Eos Amaterasu: blissful productivity: in the zone
Eos Amaterasu: epic meaning: this is your life
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_McGonigal
Lila Darkmatter: "gaming can make a better world"
stevenaia Michinaga: I think I heard her TED talk
Eos Amaterasu: the game hero then becomes an RL hero (like the High School quarterback)
stevenaia Michinaga: I always think it;s strange when people view virtual worlds as games
stevenaia Michinaga: as if there's aren;'t "people" behind the interactions
Paradise Tennant: yes I have here book reality is broken
stevenaia Michinaga: resulting in people behaving inhumainly
Paradise Tennant: gaming give us something we don't get in rl those eureka moments
    Eos Amaterasu: hmm
Lila Darkmatter: I felt that way for a while too, but then realized that for some, the introduction of an avatar figure means entering a game..
Eos Amaterasu: maybe like the baby putting on an outfit?
Lila Darkmatter: and it more has to do with how one views gaming , what a game means in terms of inhumanness?
stevenaia Michinaga: I suppose it depends how well it fits yo
    Lila Darkmatter nods
Lila Darkmatter: Sl certainly can take one on a ride
stevenaia Michinaga: a game usually expects a winner
Eos Amaterasu: that's one class of games
Eos Amaterasu: but throwing a tennis ball for a dog to catch....
Paradise Tennant: smiles I know that game well !
Eos Amaterasu: I suppose catching the ball, or bringing it back, is winning
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes

Paradise Tennant: find it odd as stev says how people can detach from reality or the consequences of their actions here .. like the anonymous nature somehow suspends - responsible action but really you are still always yourself .. smiles you cannot get away from you :))
    Paradise Tennant: sorry bell
stevenaia Michinaga: that is something each participant has to realize for themselves
stevenaia Michinaga: what game doesn't have the goal of coming out ahead of someone else or have rules to challenge the more adept over someone less so
Eos Amaterasu: can be multiple levels... like running a marathon, where a few people way up ahead "win", but you're still struggling for your "win"
stevenaia Michinaga: (even when the dog wins)
Lila Darkmatter: and the one who throws the ball as well
Paradise Tennant: I guess the only thing I can think of stev is parenthood where you really are putting another life first
    stevenaia Michinaga: interesting "game"
    Paradise Tennant: well social intereaction
Paradise Tennant: this is social interreaction too
    Lila Darkmatter nods
Lila Darkmatter: and there is win-win
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
    Paradise Tennant: yes !!!
Paradise Tennant: on that happy note I will go walk the pup .... he so likes social interreaction :))
    Lila Darkmatter smiles
    stevenaia Michinaga: night Para
Paradise Tennant: nite nite my firends :)) be well
Lila Darkmatter: night Para good to see you
Eos Amaterasu: tennis balls in inventory?
    Eos Amaterasu: 'night

Lila Darkmatter: I've learned a lot from talking to my son about video games and his views on what makes a "good game"
    Eos Amaterasu is all ears
Lila Darkmatter: a bit of constrainment but a lot of freedom seems to be what interests him
Lila Darkmatter: the constraint gives him a sense of purpose
    Lila Darkmatter: traction
Lila Darkmatter: but he wants a lot of room for creativity within that
    Eos Amaterasu: a game frame
Lila Darkmatter: he feels it is a high art form
stevenaia Michinaga: I'm yawning over here.. bedtime
    stevenaia Michinaga: night my friends
    Lila Darkmatter: :) night stevie
    Eos Amaterasu: 'night (yawn)
    Eos Amaterasu: (contagious)
Lila Darkmatter: will follow too actually.. stingy eyes but was hanging in
    Lila Darkmatter: lol
    Eos Amaterasu: ciao lila
Lila Darkmatter: night Eos, pleasant dreams
    Eos Amaterasu: lovely rainbow dress
    Lila Darkmatter: thank you :)
