[19:01] Korel Laloix: I am thinking of going to Vet school.
[19:01] Korel Laloix: As I understand it is is about as painful as Med school.. but both are probably bad.
[19:02] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: An Interesting choice. A friend went to undertakers school. Probably not as rigorous.
[19:03] Korel Laloix: Well, at the moment.. it is sort of a natural lead in from my master's degrees.
[19:04] Korel Laloix: But also, my gf is taking over her families ranch eventually.. so.. if things go that way with us.. then being a vet could be very good for the business.

[19:04] Korel Laloix: But I still have to seperate those two thoughts as best I can.

[19:04] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: What was your Thesis?
[19:05] Korel Laloix: I am doing a double program, one is Epidemiology and one in Biostats.
[19:06] Korel Laloix: Without getting into teh titeles, both have to deal with the long term health issues of women atheletes and teh surrounding industry.
[19:06] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: Tough work. I poked my nose into the Coursera class on Biostats just to see what it was, Interesting, but not for me.
[19:07] Korel Laloix: It can be tough in some ways... the statistical methods are straightforward... but the ways you can mess things up are tricky.
[19:08] Korel Laloix: But I enjoy it for sure.

[19:09] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: Which aspects did you find the most difficult and which the easiest?
[19:09] Korel Laloix: The difficult part starting out was with the biostats....
[19:10] Korel Laloix: I essentially had to teach myself most of the basic biology as I had not had a lot of that in my undergrad work.
[19:10] Korel Laloix: The easiest part ot me is just being able to see how stats makes sense.
[19:10] Korel Laloix: If that makes sense... smiles
[19:10] Korel Laloix: brb.. more cobbler
[19:14] Korel Laloix: Back.. wow this smells so good.
[19:14] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: I bet one service is fine, but two is starting to tip the scale...

[19:14] Korel Laloix: What was the worst and best part of medschool for you?
[19:15] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: Worst. Hours and hours and hours of endless hours of work.
[19:16] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: Best. The end.
[19:18] Korel Laloix: That is what I was afraid of....
[19:18] Korel Laloix: I am sort of tired of school at the moment... sort of been a professional student for a while and want to move on.
[19:19] Korel Laloix: I have a job lined up to do field work for plant epidemiology.. but not sure that will be a good long term match..
[19:20] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: When I was younger, we used to say "Join the Army, see the World" "Burn villages, and kill innocent women children and babies."
[19:20] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: I was decidedly anti-war.
[19:21] Korel Laloix: I actually tried to join the army.. but was medical disqualified.
[19:23] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: They would have taken me, because they would have taken anyone. They were looking for qualified professionals in any topic.

[19:23] Korel Laloix: I will find a way to make a difference in my own way.
[19:24] Korel Laloix: I just don't like it when I am not allowed to do something.. smiles
[19:24] Korel Laloix: And with DADT gone, the medical thing is now the only hangup.
[19:24] Korel Laloix: it is silly though.. my retina damage is so slight I did not even know I had it.
[19:25] Korel Laloix: But it was bad enough to mess things up for me.

[19:25] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: DADT may be gone, but the military is still full of rampant sex and gender discrimination.
[19:26] Korel Laloix: Just like college... why I don't live in the dorms.
[19:26] Korel Laloix: lol
[19:26] Korel Laloix: It is a sad state though.
[19:27] Korel Laloix: And from talking to my pals that are in, it has gotten a bit worse over the last four years or so... go figure.
[19:29] Korel Laloix: Racism as well evidently
[19:31] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: There have been so many cases of abuse where the commanding officer has set aside court marshals that there has been a clear message of "whatever, boys will be boys is just fine." I doubt much will change for a long time.
[19:33] Korel Laloix: It is sick and sad for sure.... but the deterioration has a lot to do with the the guy that runs the military... frowns

[19:33] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: All my life, people have been saying "Military Intelligence" is an oxymoron.
[19:34] NotSureifGavePermissionResident: I think he has far less control that you would imagine.
[19:34] Korel Laloix: lol.. I have a Sl friend that is in that and she says the same joke.
[19:34] Korel Laloix: Well, when you have such misogynist and racist attitudes, it does effect the whole atmosphere.
[19:35] Korel Laloix: But that is a discussion for another day and not at bed time.
