The Guardian for this meeting was Gaya Ethaniel. The comments are by Gaya Ethaniel.
Vendy Walpole: Hello Gaya, Qt
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Vendy and Qt :)
Qt Core: Hi wendy, Gaya
Gaya Ethaniel: How are you both?
Vendy Walpole: I am fine, just have light cold
Vendy Walpole: ty
Vendy Walpole: brb
Qt Core: almost good, ty
Gaya Ethaniel: aaww ... sorry to hear that Vendy.
Qt Core: and you ?
Gaya Ethaniel: Good thank you :)
Gaya Ethaniel: It's unusual to have companies at this session.
Qt Core: ;-) i should be at work but for some reason i'm home this morning
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ok
Vendy Walpole: SORRY, BACK
Gaya Ethaniel: wb
Vendy Walpole: Yes, same here
Gaya Ethaniel: Anything on your mind you'd like to discuss Vendy & Qt?
Vendy Walpole: I would like we share our practices on 9seconds if you agree?
Gaya Ethaniel: Please :)
Vendy Walpole: Ok, I will start
Vendy Walpole: I do not do that regularly I must admit, though i find it helpful experience
Vendy Walpole: Sometimes, at work or while working I drop what i have and gate another perspective to the space where I am
Vendy Walpole: See it without boundaries, much larger
Vendy Walpole: and like sort of mosaic
Gaya Ethaniel: Interesting ... mosaic?
Vendy Walpole: yes, that would be the world as I see it then
Vendy Walpole: so many puzzles in it that complete the whole
Vendy Walpole: I do not know how it sounds to you?
Gaya Ethaniel: Spaces between bits too?
Vendy Walpole: no, they are close and compose the picture we call world
Vendy Walpole: in that space I am an observer
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ok :) Well, to be honest, I can't quite relate to your image.
Vendy Walpole: perhaps it is individual
Vendy Walpole: :)
Gaya Ethaniel nods :)
Vendy Walpole: The good is that I feel peace then
Gaya Ethaniel: So it's very interesting :)
Qt Core: i do it so scarcely i don;t think i can even call it the 9sec practice
Vendy Walpole: like I am distanced of the situation in which I was
Qt Core: i just stop when i feel i need it
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... ok Qt
Vendy Walpole: and see my problem just one small puzzle in whole mosaic
Gaya Ethaniel: So you do it more spontaneously then?
Vendy Walpole: I do it spontaneously but now always
Vendy Walpole: I want to experiment often
Gaya Ethaniel: I see.
Qt Core: the first think i find myself doing is some kind of (don;t know the english word, when a teacher calls the students to know who is there and who isn't) comparing my mental map of the office and the sounds i hear
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... how interesting.
Vendy Walpole: Yes, it is interesting that sounds become more clearer then
Vendy Walpole: and present
Gaya Ethaniel nods.
Vendy Walpole: I wonder why I notice sounds so good then and realize it is perhaps I am getting be present in now, here
Qt Core: this remind me i game i was quite good at while young, basically the opposite of hide and seek
Gaya Ethaniel: That is a possible Vendy.
Gaya Ethaniel: Opposite to hide and seek?
Qt Core: all go hiding, then try to group together (and keep hiding), the last lose
Vendy Walpole: So, to me play as Being as first focus to present moment, like get involved into now immediately but in wider space
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Calvino :)
Qt Core: hi calvino
Vendy Walpole: Hello Calvino, good to meet you
Calvino Rabeni: Hello.
Vendy Walpole: after i read the logs with you :)
Calvino Rabeni: I was wondering how much use is made of the logs
Gaya Ethaniel: I've never heard of such a game Qt. Is it Italian?
Qt Core: probably, but not many people i knew know about it, maybe it was a very local thing
Gaya Ethaniel: :D
Vendy Walpole: We have similar game Qt
--BELL--
Vendy Walpole: I used to play it as a child and all my senses were maximum alert at the time
Vendy Walpole: Ok, in this 90 seconds I realized the flow of thoughts in my mind :)
Gaya Ethaniel: Calvino -- do you have some suggestions how to make better use of the logs? For me, it's for catching up with sessions I haven't been able to attend.
Vendy Walpole: I find them Gaya very useful and interesting
Calvino Rabeni: Hmm, I haven't been as dedicated as to try to catch up with all that has happened.
Vendy Walpole: Even get an impression of someone whom haven't met yet in such way
Calvino Rabeni: But if a quick summary were presented, like on one page, I'd enjoy reviewing it.
Gaya Ethaniel: Let me think of a couple of links. No one is obliged to read up :)
Vendy Walpole: I enjoy the reading
Vendy Walpole: Will you share Gaya how you feel or what happens inside of you at those micro-meditations?
Qt Core: i have a brief span attention while reading them
Gaya Ethaniel thinks.
Vendy Walpole: And Calvino as well?
Calvino Rabeni: ? about the timeout sit,or the log, are you asking?
Qt Core: i end up usually searching the one i'm in and seeing my sillyness (egosurfing?)
Calvino Rabeni: :)
Vendy Walpole: About play as Being or doing micro meditation in every day life
Gaya Ethaniel: I guess it's just noticing more what's present, whether thoughts or what I see etc.
Gaya Ethaniel: lol egosurfing
Vendy Walpole: :) like the phrase Qt
Vendy Walpole: we say Ego trip
Vendy Walpole: I see it- my ego then as not such important thing in part of the world I which i live
Vendy Walpole: and tell myself that my problems are not so big as i thought
Vendy Walpole: in the mosaic of world
Qt Core: usually is a humbling experience seeing how unuseful are some of the things i say
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Calvino Rabeni: The logs might help to objectify. Or to remember / revisit. I don't need them for that use because I keep my own alongside the SL device. Plus I rely on memory.
Gaya Ethaniel: But you don't know what others who heard your comments got out of them so :)
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, the logs might serve a social purpose to get outside myself. Do they convey other's reflections much?
Gaya Ethaniel: I guess so Calvino. It's nice to leave comments etc as well to interact between the group.
Gaya Ethaniel: Each of us come here and share as we want like now so yes I think one gets an idea of reflections of many people who participate.
Vendy Walpole: yes, exactly
Qt Core: then there is another way to use them... i think i didn't get something during a session, go to the log and confirm that i can't understand it ;-)
Gaya Ethaniel: Qt being so humble!
Vendy Walpole: For us whose first language is not English they are of great help
Qt Core: (no, that was just silly)
Calvino Rabeni: Did an of you re-read the log with Mary and Pema?
Gaya Ethaniel: heh :)
Vendy Walpole: I did
Vendy Walpole: and reply
Qt Core: not yet, i will
Vendy Walpole: what i think in email
Calvino Rabeni: Interesting
Calvino Rabeni: email, to where/who?
Vendy Walpole: It is everything but not boring
Vendy Walpole: to the group
Qt Core: the pab ml
Calvino Rabeni: I guess I haven't subscribed. Ought.
Vendy Walpole: I see such situations as challenges and test for what PaB stands for
Gaya Ethaniel: Well, it's for hosts/guardians who get invited and accepted Calvino, so not public.
Calvino Rabeni: That's ok, maybe I will turn into such a person.
--BELL--
Gaya Ethaniel: Perhaps Calvino :) Can I ask how you find 9/90 sec practices?
Calvino Rabeni: It's not new, it's kind of a habit. Perhaps this instance of participation will have a ritual effect that will refresh it for me.
Gaya Ethaniel: You have a habit of regularly pausing?
Calvino Rabeni: Yes
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... can I ask how you started it?
Calvino Rabeni: I don't time it with a watch or anything.
Vendy Walpole: me neither
Gaya Ethaniel: I started with a clock though these days I don't need it.
Calvino Rabeni: How I started it? Several schools I participated in, emphasized it as a foundation practice, but in different ways.
Gaya Ethaniel: Care to tell us more?
Calvino Rabeni: Ok, I had about 10 yrs in - sorry, my interface is really slow.
Gaya Ethaniel: np I know your computer is slow for SL :)
Calvino Rabeni: In "internal" martial arts style (including chi kung). They did it a certain way.
Calvino Rabeni: And another period with a Fourth Way school. That was done differently.
Calvino Rabeni: I can comment on specifics a bit if it seems interesting.
Vendy Walpole: The Forth Way - is it according Ouspensky?
Gaya Ethaniel: However you want it :) I'd be interested to know about pauses and chi kung.
Calvino Rabeni: But those are two places I came across mindfulness and presence as a kind of intentional mental discipline.
Vendy Walpole hopes that someone will do spell check later
Gaya Ethaniel: ok Vendy :)
Vendy Walpole: ty :)
Calvino Rabeni: Fourth Way fractured into many branches and variations and opinions of legitimacy.
Vendy Walpole: But the base was done by Ouspensky, Calvino?
Calvino Rabeni: Gurdjieff had many students who had different angles.
Vendy Walpole: Ouspenskyis his studen as i can recall
Calvino Rabeni: Yes
Vendy Walpole: In what way the pauses help you Calvino, if I may ask?
Vendy Walpole: I ask cause want to compare others experiences with mine
Gaya Ethaniel: And pauses like 9 sec are encouraged in the Fourth Way?
Calvino Rabeni: In my view, a pause is an opportunity to collect oneself.
Gaya Ethaniel: Never heard of the Fourth Way :) Just wondering what kind of practices are encouraged.
Calvino Rabeni: And open to the greater present moment (as it has been called)
Vendy Walpole nods
Vendy Walpole: The other day I was walking on the street and noticed a puddle, remained rain water, on it's surface the surrounding was reflected, trees and a piece of sky
--BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: But my personal feeling is, there are so many dimensions of being that activity can inhabit - I mean, "I" in activity, that during the pause I get a sense of those possibilities. It feels like having "room to move" I suppose, meaning I feel it physically.
Vendy Walpole: I understand what you mean.....The puddle I saw was sort of multiplying realities and reminded me on effect - mirror inside of mirror
Gaya Ethaniel: Thanks Calvino :)
Calvino Rabeni: Gaya, there are numerous practices, and additionally one learns to improvise around them.
Gaya Ethaniel: Indeed Vendy, many things can prompt us to reflect if noticed :)
Vendy Walpole: if we see the reality like reflection on the screen , I wonder how many levels of realities can be then
Gaya Ethaniel: I see Calvino.
Vendy Walpole: yes, we just have to be in now Gaya and will see much more
Gaya Ethaniel: brb
Calvino Rabeni: But mindfulness is foundational. Some called "self observation" in that tradition.
Gaya Ethaniel: back
Gaya Ethaniel: I see ... self observation, makes sense.
Vendy Walpole: Another analogy, when I get detached from what I have, I feel as I enter the ocean of peace and when I am back to "reality" the memory of it's existing helps me in some way
Vendy Walpole: no matter the notice and chaos in which I could be, i know there is another level where they disappear
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ok ... I'm glad to hear that pauses help you Vendy.
Vendy Walpole: I am still a beginner, but attracted to it more and more
Gaya Ethaniel: ok :)
Calvino Rabeni: They could help you enjoy being who you are
Vendy Walpole: Who I am really :)
Vendy Walpole: As impulsive person in RL, hope it will help me control my thoughts and emotions in time, more and more
Qt Core: got a little lost with names but self observation was clear enough
Vendy Walpole: Ok, something else, Gaya I wish to ask you are these animal avatars (you are "rabbit") give you another point of view here?
Calvino Rabeni: Another term is "self remembering", which has somewhat different connotations
Vendy Walpole: I have a friend who says it gave him a strong sense of liberation (he is a bear)
Gaya Ethaniel: I don't immerse in SL very much so not really except people maybe react to me differently than if I am a humanoid.
Calvino Rabeni: Is it possible to easily switch avatars in SL? I am a newbie
Gaya Ethaniel: hm ... self remembering? I'm curious ... can you say more Calvino?
--BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: :) getting used to having more than one conversation in parallel
Qt Core: yes, you have them in folders in your inventory and you just switch
Qt Core: like this
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Calvino Rabeni: You don't bite?
Gaya Ethaniel: wow an hour already ... I have to get back to RL. Thanks for joining me. Enjoy your day!
Qt Core: i'm a fire horse, i'm vegetarian!
Gaya Ethaniel: Please feel free to stay on and talk though.
Qt Core: i may breath fire...
Calvino Rabeni: It's night for me. Bye!
Vendy Walpole: Bye Calvino
Gaya Ethaniel: Yes good rest Calvino!
Vendy Walpole: Good night
Vendy Walpole: Ok, I go too
Qt Core: me too
Vendy Walpole: Hope see you soon Qt, Calvino
Vendy Walpole: Bye
Vendy Walpole: lol
Calvino Rabeni: Likewise. Good bye
Vendy Walpole: I am impressed Qt
Qt Core: sure wendy
Vendy Walpole: :))
Vendy Walpole: great avatar
Vendy Walpole: Sl- Land where all is possible
Qt Core: ty
Vendy Walpole: that si good
Vendy Walpole: waves
