Wol Euler: whereas the Lab owns all the SL servers

Wol Euler: so it can enforce designers' intellectual copyright and copy protection *here*, but not there.
Agatha Macbeth: So you have to go through building an av again from the ground up, with no clue as where to find any stuff?
Wol Euler: yep
Agatha Macbeth: Great
Wol Euler: and worse: there is often no stuff
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds really well thought through
Wol Euler: because unless designer X has gone to your specific server and set up a store on it, there's no access to her goods
Wol Euler: OSgrid is second life for hermits
Agatha Macbeth: No equivalent of Marketplace then?
Wol Euler: nope
Wol Euler: because: no central server
Agatha Macbeth: I'll definitely give that a miss
Wol Euler: your name is also not protected
Wol Euler: you need to create "agatha macbeth" afresh on every single opensim server you want to visit
Wol Euler: which means: you have to hope somebody didn't get there first
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds wonderful
Wol Euler: and *really* hope they aren't using your name for griefing
Wol Euler: the *only* advantage of opensim is that it is cheaper to maintain your own server than to rent land from the Lab
