The Guardian for this meeting was Eliza Madrigal. The comments are by Eliza Madrigal...

    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Korel :)

    --BELL--

Korel Laloix: Heya... sorry.. was AFK.
Korel Laloix: How are you today?
Eliza Madrigal: fairly well, you? catch up with homework?
Korel Laloix: Not really.. counting on the weekend.
Korel Laloix: If I manage to buy this new bike by Friday I am going to go camping with some pals.
Korel Laloix: Will get a lot done then.
    Eliza Madrigal: tent camping?
Eliza Madrigal: hard to imagine getting anything done when out with friends :)
    Korel Laloix: yes.
Korel Laloix: They know I am seriouls about my studying... I already told them my intent.
Korel Laloix: Is that a pun?
    Korel Laloix: in -tent?
    Eliza Madrigal: lol
Eliza Madrigal: well we can stop session right there... already good title
    Korel Laloix: What?
    Eliza Madrigal: In tent ion

Eliza Madrigal: I was reading you want to take us on a pow wow...
    Korel Laloix: Oh... smiles
Korel Laloix: Yes.. I have a plan.... fly into probably OK City.
Eliza Madrigal: think it would be fun, and more do-able than Venice for me at least :)
    Eliza Madrigal: would you dance?
Korel Laloix: Go see the National Cowboy and Western Culture Museum.
Korel Laloix: Then out to possibly Shawnee to the Bode' powwow..
Eliza Madrigal: I've been to a few museums in Tulsa, but it was so long ago...
Korel Laloix: Not in Tulsa though.
Korel Laloix: Give folks some dance and etiquat lessons.
Eliza Madrigal: my daughter's first word sounded something like 'etsi' which I later learned was mother in cherokee... similar anyway

Korel Laloix: Then yes, I will dance Fancy and maybe buckskin.
    Eliza Madrigal: pow wow ettiquete?
    Eliza Madrigal: yay
Korel Laloix: Yes.. lots of it.
Eliza Madrigal: how fascinating.... would love this
Eliza Madrigal: get to meet gramma?
Korel Laloix: And I talked with my aunts... they would not mind giving a short talk on Tsalagi and Bode' medicine.
    Eliza Madrigal: wow
Korel Laloix: I think she would like that.
Eliza Madrigal: would be quite a draw :)
Korel Laloix: I just need to figure out what sort of palces people would mind staying in?
Korel Laloix: I think it would be good.
Eliza Madrigal: have you looked around SL to see if there is anything close to an authentic replication of the experience?
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, usually we've looked, if in hotels around the $90 range... though we found even less in San Francisco I think
Korel Laloix: There are some.. but way over dramaed and full of... people I don't want to be around.
Eliza Madrigal: depends on whether there are centers or what is available

Eliza Madrigal: the only thing to keep in mind timing wise is that many Europeans might melt in the OK heat at some times of year... but Fall sounds nice
Korel Laloix: That is a worry for me.. so trying to find a cool time... and a lot of toher factors.
Eliza Madrigal: :) I can handle it okay as long as there are shadows to retreat to, but I'm used to heat
Korel Laloix: Yes.. always lots of open tents.
Eliza Madrigal: was reading about the people on the Syrian border... very very hot now and many fleeing their areas :(

    Wol Euler: evening all
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Wol

Eliza Madrigal: Korel was telling me about the pow wow plan :)
    Wol Euler grins.
Wol Euler: it's a great idea
Eliza Madrigal: I'd so love to meet aunts and gramma
    Wol Euler nods.

    --BELL--

Korel Laloix: And I want to take everyone out to my favorite National Grassland area as well... where we did my Naming Jounrey.
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
Korel Laloix: So many things I want to try and do... but those are just iddeas so far.
Korel Laloix: Making a workable plan that meets my hyper type A personality will be tough.
    Korel Laloix: brb
    Eliza Madrigal laughs...
Eliza Madrigal: it is so nice to hear all your ideas
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: perhaps a useful exercise in dropping?

Eliza Madrigal: as long as we don't have to run miles in 90 degree weather I'm good
    Wol Euler: oh yes
Wol Euler: um, that has to be clear.
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
Wol Euler: no half-marathons for us :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aggers :)
Korel Laloix: Just a nice leasurly hike till we get to a place with no sound besides the wind and birds.

    Wol Euler: aggerseses
    Agatha Macbeth: Evening :)
    Eliza Madrigal: *that* sounds wonderful
    Agatha Macbeth: What does?
Eliza Madrigal: "leisurely hike to a place with no sound besides the wind and birds"
Wol Euler: outline planning for the retreat/pow wow next summer!
    Agatha Macbeth: Pow wow wow
Agatha Macbeth: Don'tyou have enough wind atm Liz?
Eliza Madrigal: it is gorgeous here today - hot and clear, light breeze
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
    Agatha Macbeth: No hurricane then?
Eliza Madrigal: the storm is in Louisiana now
    Eliza Madrigal: and Mississippi
Eliza Madrigal: down to a tropical storm
    Eliza Madrigal: but lingering
Wol Euler: good for you, bad for them
Eliza Madrigal: yes :( - we had days of storms here but it was actually nice
    Agatha Macbeth: Fair enough
Eliza Madrigal: there, the main issue is flooding and since the storm is moving so slowly they'll have more of it than they might have

And here is where the session went off the rails...hah....

Agatha Macbeth wonders what Liz is looking for under the cushion
    Eliza Madrigal: Atlantis
Agatha Macbeth: Is it down there?
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: has to be somewhere
Agatha Macbeth: Or was that Agartha
Eliza Madrigal: when the fish with glasses gets back he'll tell me
Agatha Macbeth: Oh is he still around?
Eliza Madrigal: rumors of his passing are greatly exaggerated
Agatha Macbeth: Some said he couldn't swim

    Alfred Kelberry: hi girls :)
    Agatha Macbeth: G'day Boxy
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Boxy :)
    Agatha Macbeth: No gun?
Alfred Kelberry: i've been watching a silly movie
    Alfred Kelberry: battleship
    Eliza Madrigal: not familiar
Agatha Macbeth: A silly movie battleship?
    Eliza Madrigal: a5 to g8
    Agatha Macbeth: Check
Alfred Kelberry: we send out a signal in the vicinity of a promising exoplanet. it's being intercepted by evil aliens.

Wol Euler: meh, why is boxy's nose not working?
    Agatha Macbeth: Works for moi
    Agatha Macbeth: There ya go
Eliza Madrigal: US labor day weekend?
    Agatha Macbeth: Wouldn't know
    Wol Euler: :)
Agatha Macbeth: not on a wednesday i shouldn't think
    Eliza Madrigal: hehe

Agatha Macbeth: So how long has this battleship been around Mars?
Alfred Kelberry: still a fun movie with explosions and special effects
Agatha Macbeth: (must be the silly season)
Alfred Kelberry: aga, no mars involvement
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh
    Agatha Macbeth: Jupiter?
    Eliza Madrigal: yet
Eliza Madrigal: we keep poking around and they'll be on to us
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
Agatha Macbeth: Ahh, the germs will kill em
Agatha Macbeth: like they did in that film
    Alfred Kelberry: earth's pathogens

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: i'd like to see an intelligent alien though
Agatha Macbeth: I'd prefer to see the odd intelligent human....

    San_Aug 29_1300.jpg

Wol Euler: I had a truly wonderful breakfast of kippers, scrambled egges, homemade bread and strong tea once, at a roadside cafe by one of the piers of the Firth of Forth bridge
    Agatha Macbeth: Got the address?
    Alfred Kelberry: woly, sounds awesome
Eliza Madrigal: reads like the first line in the second paragraph of a novel
    Alfred Kelberry: where is it?
    Agatha Macbeth: Wollie *is* awesome
    Agatha Macbeth: Or some
    Wol Euler: awwwww
Wol Euler: it would be a good one, eliza
Agatha Macbeth: Nice kini btw K
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

Alfred Kelberry: she missed a comma after "homemade bread" though
    Eliza Madrigal: hehehe
Agatha Macbeth: That was probably intentional
Eliza Madrigal: peculiarities make the work ;-)

Agatha Macbeth: It's making the peculiarities work tho
Alfred Kelberry: but now imagine if you have such breakfast every day... how dull it becomes in a while
    Wol Euler nods.
Wol Euler is nothing if not peculiarly made.

Agatha Macbeth: But every alternate tuesday would be nice

Wol Euler shrugs. Noises off. Noisy noise.
    Alfred Kelberry: tv?
Agatha Macbeth: Noisy noise as opposed to...
    Alfred Kelberry: quietly quiet
    Wol Euler: quiet noise.
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
    Agatha Macbeth: Background v foreground?
Alfred Kelberry: woly: wait, you're in a cafe?
    Wol Euler: no, at home
    Alfred Kelberry: ok, tv then
    Wol Euler: no
    Alfred Kelberry: or music
Agatha Macbeth: She's in a café at home
Wol Euler: just noise, boxy, it doesn't matter what kind
    Alfred Kelberry: noisy neighbors
Wol Euler: I don't care what kind
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Wol Euler: I will not dignify it with enough of my attention to identify it firmly

Agatha Macbeth: What's worse noisy neighbours or nosey neighbours?
Wol Euler: noisy, because one can close the curtains
Wol Euler: or put on a show
Eliza Madrigal: spectrums of both noisy and nosey
Agatha Macbeth: You could soundproof the room with eggboxes
Alfred Kelberry: aga, i think worse is noise in the head when it hurts :)
Alfred Kelberry: then every little noise gets amplified
    Alfred Kelberry: eliza is typing
Eliza Madrigal: typed so long I lost interest in what I was saying :)
    Alfred Kelberry: aww...
    Alfred Kelberry: i've been waiting
    Wol Euler: awwwww
    Eliza Madrigal: alas.... gone... gone...
Alfred Kelberry: it does happen though
    Agatha Macbeth: Like diana Ross
Eliza Madrigal: moment is lost and I'm sure it was very profound :P
Alfred Kelberry: you type away and the topic has moved on already

    Wol Euler: lost forever ...
Wol Euler: like sheep passing in the night

    Eliza Madrigal: hahhahahaa
    Alfred Kelberry: what sheep?
Eliza Madrigal: two sheeps that pass in the night....
    Wol Euler chuckles.
    Agatha Macbeth: Passing wind
    Wol Euler: exactly
Wol Euler: boxy, it's an English expression : "ships passing in the night", for the moment when one might have made contact but did not and now it's gone
    Wol Euler: so s/ships/sheep/

    --BELL--

    Agatha Macbeth: (aha says Alf)
    Alfred Kelberry: hmm
Alfred Kelberry: odd metaphor, but ok :)
Agatha Macbeth: Have you ever met a phor?
Wol Euler: not an odd metaphor if you consider British history! Most of their metaphors are naval or at least seafaring
    Agatha Macbeth: Oo arr
    Alfred Kelberry: sheep isn't naval
    Agatha Macbeth: Shiver me timbers
    Eliza Madrigal: omphaloskepsis
Wol Euler: sheep is not the metaphor
    Agatha Macbeth: Same to you
    Wol Euler: read again :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Bye San
    Alfred Kelberry: ah...
    Wol Euler: nice word, eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: "navel gazing"
Alfred Kelberry: ok, why sheeps then?
Wol Euler: no wonder you were typing so long
Wol Euler: alf, to make a joke out of it
    Alfred Kelberry: oh
Wol Euler: "sheep" sounds like "ships"
Eliza Madrigal giggles.... yeah.... was just waiting to use that word

Agatha Macbeth: Without love we are like ships in the night
    Alfred Kelberry: yes, but...
Wol Euler: kinda, if you squint a little
Agatha Macbeth: selling our souls down the river
Wol Euler: alf, it's a joke, just laugh and let it go
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Wol Euler laughs and leans over to kiss Aggers
    Agatha Macbeth: (HAHA said Boxy)
Wol Euler: a fellow Bebop Deluxe fan
    Agatha Macbeth kisses Wol back
    Agatha Macbeth: Indeed
    Wol Euler grins.
Agatha Macbeth: Where's Bill Nelson now?
Eliza Madrigal: Willie did a be bop album? :)
Wol Euler: last I heard he was collaborating with Harold Budd and Fila Brazilia

Alfred Kelberry: oh wait! we have a similar metaphor about a train that has passed :)
Agatha Macbeth: Then became Red Noise
Alfred Kelberry: e.g. the moment is gone
    Wol Euler: yes, alf
    Agatha Macbeth: Oh wow
    Eliza Madrigal: "missed the boat"
Wol Euler: odd stuff, very drifty, not quite great
Eliza Madrigal: er... what is the train metaphor Boxy?
    Agatha Macbeth: The battleship rather
Agatha Macbeth: I pity whosever editing this log :p
Wol Euler listens for the train
    Alfred Kelberry: choo choo!
    Eliza Madrigal: who who
    Agatha Macbeth: Casey Jones
Agatha Macbeth: steamin and a rollin
Agatha Macbeth: with his orders in his hand
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, a saying: train has had passed
Wol Euler: when and why does one say that?
Eliza Madrigal: aah okay... thought it might be more visual... fog...lights... mystery

    Wol Euler: hello zen
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen :)
    Zen Arado: hello all
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe the fat controller said it
    Agatha Macbeth: Hi Zenny
Eliza Madrigal: are there special Irish sayings for missing a moment Zen?
    Zen Arado: missing a moment?
Eliza Madrigal: yes, "moment is gone"
Wol Euler: like sheep passing in the night
Alfred Kelberry: woly, same as with ships - miss the moment
    Wol Euler grins.
Agatha Macbeth: 'Where's me guiness' perhaps?
    Eliza Madrigal: hehhe
    Zen Arado: thinks
Eliza Madrigal: that one may have started in Ireland.. all those gorgeous pastures
Eliza Madrigal: a meme you picked up on all this time later.... lol
    Agatha Macbeth: Moi meme

Alfred Kelberry: funny how this reminds me of a friday session :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Alfred Kelberry: cause kori is busy
    Wol Euler: onigokko
    Agatha Macbeth: onigokko
Eliza Madrigal: and we're making no sense?
Zen Arado: was up in the clouds?
    Agatha Macbeth: snap
Alfred Kelberry: she'd have said something smart
    Agatha Macbeth: Huh?
    Agatha Macbeth: stop
    Agatha Macbeth: onigokko
    Eliza Madrigal: better
Zen Arado: Aga stopped us to adjust her onigokko
    Agatha Macbeth: It slipped
    Zen Arado: it fell off
Eliza Madrigal: kori meditates peacefully in the midst of madness
Agatha Macbeth: She's having a pow wow
Zen Arado: a puppy tries to understand those crazy humans
Agatha Macbeth: PaBers who pass in the night

Alfred Kelberry: i'm dr. pup, phd. i must uphold my professional image.
Agatha Macbeth: The cushions seem to be on fire
Zen Arado: dr pup investigates human dance customs
Alfred Kelberry: from here it looks like it's eliza's tush that is on fire
Agatha Macbeth: Well she's hot stuff

    --BELL--

    Wol Euler: stop
    Wol Euler: stop, I say!
Eliza Madrigal: >whew< thank you for saving us
    Alfred Kelberry: haha
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Wol Euler: simon says stop
    Eliza Madrigal: now save yourself
    Agatha Macbeth: Hehehe
    Eliza Madrigal: stop
    Wol Euler: onigokko
    Wol Euler: stop
    Zen Arado: Wol is unstoppable
    Agatha Macbeth: This is true
Agatha Macbeth: Now we have an onigokkoing dog
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: dr onigokko
Zen Arado: no he's just running around
Agatha Macbeth gives Alf the gold medal

Alfred Kelberry: btw, india isn't doing good
    Agatha Macbeth: At what?
Alfred Kelberry: aga: why, thank you, kind lady :)
    Wol Euler: at what?
    Zen Arado: it never is
    Agatha Macbeth: Snap
Wol Euler: the olympics are long over
    Alfred Kelberry: economy
    Eliza Madrigal: (sorry about that)
Zen Arado: what economy is doing good?
Agatha Macbeth: I think the battleship just landed
Alfred Kelberry: a friend has recently got back from there. he's disappointed.
Eliza Madrigal: for the NDR to play with when it comes through the pavilion again
Agatha Macbeth: They still make damn good food, that's all I care
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: what were reports Boxy?
Alfred Kelberry: yes, as long as it's served in europe :)
Agatha Macbeth: Well I'm not walking over there for it
    Zen Arado: :)

Alfred Kelberry: eliza, growing inequality, greed, even more dirt and garbage than before
Eliza Madrigal: an area he was already familiar with Boxy? how long did he stay?
Agatha Macbeth: Is that India or the whole world?
Alfred Kelberry: he's an indian. visited his relatives. been to several places around the country.
Wol Euler: that sounds like a report on the USA, at least the Republicans
Zen Arado: Kama Sutra notice hmmm
    Eliza Madrigal: ah
    Zen Arado: saw Mrs Romney
    Agatha Macbeth: Position 48
Zen Arado: about woman playing the part of man ...it says
Zen Arado: will sned Jan over
    Zen Arado: send
Eliza Madrigal: kama sutra is tomorrow Zen
Agatha Macbeth: How about the reverse? ;-)
Zen Arado: yeh just got notice
    Agatha Macbeth: WB San
    Zen Arado: Hi San
Eliza Madrigal: oh, hah... connecting dots... Jan is going to the convention

Alfred Kelberry: *looks at san* no, kama sutra... right now! :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Convention?
    Wol Euler: eh?
    Alfred Kelberry: oh, not anymore...
Zen Arado: to learn Kama Sutra
Alfred Kelberry: san has landed on zen's head :)
    Santoshima Resident: fuck off mighty
    Alfred Kelberry: purr :)
    Santoshima Resident: twice
    Santoshima Resident: if you can
    Wol Euler: well said, san.
    Santoshima Resident: ty, wol
Agatha Macbeth: Well we were talking about the kama sutra
Alfred Kelberry: yes, and fucking off
Zen Arado: I didn't go to any of those sessions
Santoshima Resident: make sexual references about yourself then
Santoshima Resident: not about someone else

Zen Arado: apparently they aren't about sex at all
    Agatha Macbeth: What then?
Eliza Madrigal: wll one entire session was about how to bathe properly and keep perfumed
    Wol Euler smiles.
    Wol Euler: an important subject
Eliza Madrigal: another was on biting methods... so I hear... ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: Oh I'll take a look
Eliza Madrigal: the nice thing about these is that the person who does these sessions likes to translate things himself and puts a lot of time into that - however I haven't been able to go to many
Eliza Madrigal: did attend most of the Mahabarat sessions
    Agatha Macbeth: Dunno em
Wol Euler: wow, how did I miss all this?
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, i wonder how it's related with bathing in ganges
Zen Arado: I didn't find that interesting
    Agatha Macbeth: You were working
Zen Arado: elephant gods and suchlike
    Agatha Macbeth: Ganesh?
Eliza Madrigal: ah for me it was, because I wasn't as familiar as it seems everyone else in the entire world is :)
    Zen Arado: yeh
    Wol Euler: probably, yes
Eliza Madrigal: and the sense of multiple lives factors into all the battles...
Zen Arado: funny since I like Advaita
    Agatha Macbeth: Never met her
Eliza Madrigal: very very very few woman in the story
    Zen Arado: male dominated?
Agatha Macbeth: Not that interesting then
Eliza Madrigal: but sure Ann Romney loves them ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: sorry ::sits on hands and stays out of politics::
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Wol Euler: "don't ask about taxes"
Wol Euler: "take our word for it"
    Agatha Macbeth: Taxis?

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: one day i should look up who romney is
Agatha Macbeth: It's a marsh in Kent
    Zen Arado: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: popular place
Eliza Madrigal: well wronged women in the story often vow to come back as men so they can do something for revenge
Eliza Madrigal: and each generation perpetuates grudges into multiple lifetimes
    Wol Euler nods.
Agatha Macbeth: Which story is this?
Wol Euler: fortunately that never happens any more
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh
    Wol Euler smiles.
Eliza Madrigal: mahabarata? am I spelling it right?
    Agatha Macbeth: Ah
    Wol Euler: mahabharata
    Eliza Madrigal: ty
Alfred Kelberry: i thought you said kama sutra
    Wol Euler: long ago, boxy
    Agatha Macbeth: and far away
    Eliza Madrigal: so much better

    Eliza Madrigal: :::sees ball drop::::

Agatha Macbeth: Don't look at me
Alfred Kelberry: oh, yummy! samsung has announced a galaxy phone/camera on android: http://geeknizer.com/samsung-galaxy-...oid-jellybean/
Agatha Macbeth: There's a non sequitur if I ever heard one
Zen Arado: Apple will say they copied theirs

Alfred Kelberry: i think slr manufacturers are holding on to the market that is morally outdated
Eliza Madrigal: morally outdated.... curious phrase
Zen Arado: Slr's not needed any more
Agatha Macbeth: Aren't all markets morally outdated?
Zen Arado: don't see where morals come into it though
    Agatha Macbeth: Exactly
Wol Euler wonders what that means
Alfred Kelberry: mirror-less cameras are as much able as slr's that are bulky and cost a fortune
Wol Euler: and what has that to do with morality?
Zen Arado: compacts are very good nowadays
Eliza Madrigal: would anyone like the LM to a kabbalah talk at 3?
    Agatha Macbeth: Nah
Alfred Kelberry: woly, meaning they're not up to the current standards of what is possible
Wol Euler: I'd love to but too late for me
    Zen Arado: no ty Eliza
Wol Euler: but what has that to do with morality, boxy?
Zen Arado: I went to one with Mira on Sunday
    Eliza Madrigal: ah, k...

Wol Euler: I don't think that word means what you think it does.
Zen Arado: it's all about the tree of life
Zen Arado: and different descriptions of God
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Zen Arado: who is giving it\/
    Agatha Macbeth: ITV?
Eliza Madrigal: Wellie... same presentation repeated
Agatha Macbeth: Are they still around?
    Zen Arado: ah
    Zen Arado: nice woman
    Zen Arado: not Jewish either
    Zen Arado: Swedish Canadian
Eliza Madrigal: "moral" is used in so many ways....almost afraid of the word myself but should get over that
    Agatha Macbeth: Many people aren't
    Eliza Madrigal: :) Ag

Wol Euler: a perfectly good word but I do not see that it is applicable here
    Wol Euler huffs pedantically
Eliza Madrigal: well Kabbalah is said to be not Judaism but mostly when it is taught in depth one does need Hebrew
Alfred Kelberry: woly, no. it's the right one :)
    Eliza Madrigal: Wol :)
    Agatha Macbeth: What word?
    Wol Euler: how?
    Eliza Madrigal: antiquated value system?
    Alfred Kelberry: um, yes... obsolescent?

Zen Arado: it seems like a complicated belief system to me
Zen Arado: and I don't want to learn any more belief systems
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Zen Arado: (just my perspective)

Wol Euler: and what the FUCK does that have to with morality, boxy?
    Eliza Madrigal nods
    Wol Euler: pardon my french
Agatha Macbeth: Seems to be a lot of fucking tonight

Eliza Madrigal is going to put out a cursing box
    Eliza Madrigal: raise funds
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler hands you a Linden
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh
Alfred Kelberry: not with morality per ser. read what and eliza i wrote :)

    --BELL--

Alfred Kelberry: aga, who is coming up with the session title? :)
    Eliza Madrigal: <----
Agatha Macbeth: Whoever has the log I guess
    Eliza Madrigal: log lady
Alfred Kelberry: oh, then i'm certain the word fuck will not be in there :)
    Wol Euler grins.
Agatha Macbeth: Can we talk to it?
Wol Euler hands you a cup of damned fine coffee
    Eliza Madrigal: hahahhaha

Eliza Madrigal: :) Zen, belief systems are just postures - nice to be flexible enough to move around in them and not get stuck in any one
Wol Euler: if I had an iPhone I would want to rename my Siri to "Diane"
Zen Arado: yeh but why bother with them then Eliza?
Agatha Macbeth switches on her translator
Zen Arado: unless you find them interesting
    Eliza Madrigal: like languages
Zen Arado: like Adams I guess
Eliza Madrigal: relating to many people, histories, cultures
    Eliza Madrigal: mythologies, art

Zen Arado: belief systems aren't much use unless you actually believe them?
    Agatha Macbeth: This is true
Zen Arado: or am I being too utilitarian?
Eliza Madrigal: I think belief is like immersion...
    Eliza Madrigal: experiencing something
Eliza Madrigal: doesn't mean you have to stay there stuck
Agatha Macbeth: Like a fish with glasses
Eliza Madrigal: or not move from way to way
    Eliza Madrigal: :))

Zen Arado: but to me a belief is a kind of stuckness
Zen Arado: even if only temporary stuckness
Zen Arado: it kinda excludes other things
Zen Arado: like if I believe in Romney I won't vote for Obama
Eliza Madrigal: but does it have to.... have heard that belief the word, was more akin to love than what it came to mean....
Eliza Madrigal: well, on things you have to vote for
Zen Arado: well ok but I am thinking of modern meaning

Zen Arado: I was in Christian belief system for long enough
    Alfred Kelberry: https://twitter.com/BarackObama/stat...03767350968320
Zen Arado: it discourages opennes to other avenues
    Zen Arado: I think
Eliza Madrigal: I think that's why we have diff feelings about it.... when a christian I was told it was like that "either or" but I never *felt* that
Zen Arado: that's why we aren't Chtistians now maybe :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

Eliza Madrigal: I posted a Hafiz poem recently...
Zen Arado: not denying there are good aspects in these belief systems

    Eliza Madrigal: http://wiki.playasbeing.org/Chat_Logs/2012/08/2012.08.21_01%3a00_-_Would_You_Think_it_Odd...?

    Would You Think It Odd?

"I am in love with every church
    And mosque

    And temple
    And any kind of shrine

Because I know it is there
That people say the different names
    Of the One God.”

    Would you tell your friends
I was a bit strange if I admitted

I am indeed in love with every mind
    And heart and body.

    O I am sincerely
    Plumb crazy
About your every thought and yearning
    And limb
    Because, my dear,
    I know
    That it is through these

    That you search for Him

    Hafiz

Zen Arado: what religion did Rumi practice?
    Agatha Macbeth: Mormon?
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah
    Eliza Madrigal imagines
Agatha Macbeth: No, that was Donny Osmond
Wol Euler: lovely!, thank you eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: :) most welcome
    Zen Arado: nice poem

Zen Arado: it's as if some people rise above the dogmas of a religion
Alfred Kelberry: yes, atheists do :)
    Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: I mean those in a religion
Eliza Madrigal: transcendence - there are people IN all kinds of religions that aren't stuck in them mentally
    Wol Euler nods.
Zen Arado: if you followed Christ's teachings you would be a good person

Alfred Kelberry: zen, if they do, they have to face expulsion
Zen Arado: but they add so much on and drop his teachings
Eliza Madrigal: so I suppose it is what one wants from it... if approval of elders... maybe different than sense of source inspiration
    Zen Arado: just my perspective
Alfred Kelberry: why don't we follow human rights teaching? isn't it enough?
    Wol Euler: forty-two

    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: :) human rights teachings are composed by people too Boxy... can easily be drawn into unjust 'religion' of sorts
    Agatha Macbeth: Time tae go
    Alfred Kelberry: poof time
Zen Arado: if my rights trump those of others
    Alfred Kelberry: be good
    Agatha Macbeth: Who's a poof? :p
Eliza Madrigal: ((((((friends)))) thanks for talk.... off to tree of life
Wol Euler: good night all, take care

Alfred Kelberry: it was a fucking amazing session

    Agatha Macbeth: Yggdrasil
Alfred Kelberry: thank you for the company
Wol Euler: be righteous but not obnoxious
    Zen Arado: :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
