Pema Pera: 俳句を書きますか、ヅゴングさん?
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Eden Haiku: One of the most important celebrations in the US I would think, isn't?
Dugong Janus: It is difficult for us Japanese to make a good

Gaya Ethaniel: Why?
Eden Haiku: Oh, a real Japanese among us. I'm blushing...I'm just an amateur, Dugong...
Pema Pera: じゅごんさん、すみません
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Gaya Ethaniel: And Pema is practically Japanese too I think :P
Dugong Janus: It's very short poetry, so we have to minimize what we want to express
Eden Haiku: It is about time I learn how to use SL translators...
Eden Haiku: Netherlands is close to Japan for sure...Alstublieft!
stevenaia Michinaga: ooops, missed my RezDay yesterday
Pema Pera: yes, and in Japanese haiku are even shorter than in English
Gaya Ethaniel: That's true ...
Pema Pera: hahaha, Eden, so you speak Dutch too?
Gaya Ethaniel: oh, happy belated rezzday stevenaia :)
Eden Haiku: happy rezday Steve. How Sl old are you now?

Eden Haiku: Dank u, Pema ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: 3
Dugong Janus: 翻訳機を試したいなら、私は日本語で話したほうが良いですね

Pema Pera: a whale of a gift . . . .
Gaya Ethaniel: It's scripted so moves around beautifully.
Gaya Ethaniel: Yes indeed :)
Eden Haiku: Is this the simbolic translator this grey tornado ober my head?
Pema Pera: now I really feel there is a Macy's Parade going on with a whale floating above my head . . . . .
Gaya Ethaniel: It's a hud so you shouldn't see it in-world. You can tp to the place in the notecard and get a copy Eden.

Pema Pera: thank you!
Pema Pera: yes, please come join us again
Pema Pera: Do you live near a river, Eden?
Pema Pera: *river
Eden Haiku: Yes, about 5 minutes from the river.
Gaya Ethaniel: The Thames is a fairly close to me too :)
Eden Haiku: Montreal is an island. There is the Saint-Lawrence ans a smaller river on the other side. I live near the smaller river.
Pema Pera: and I live close to the Hudson :)
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Pema Pera: (I was wondering, reading your haikus)
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... didn't know that.
Eden Haiku: Beautiful. I lived in New York for a year, in Soho. I love New York
Pema Pera: me too
Pema Pera: and Soho is a nice area too, but rather crowded and busy
Eden Haiku: Are you from Amsterdam originally?
Pema Pera: born in Utrecht, not far from Amsterdam
Pema Pera: I got my PhD in Amsterdam, and then emigrated to the U.S.
Pema Pera: And now I live very close to Amsterdam Avenue, only one block away . . . .
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Pema Pera: Did you live in NYC for study, Eden, or work (or fun)?
Eden Haiku: I lived in Amsterdam in the winter of 2002. But I have never seen Utrecht.
Pema Pera: oh, next time you should go, only 30 minutes by train from A'dam
Eden Haiku: I was working on a poetry/performance.
Pema Pera: lovely canals in Utrecht, different style from Amsterdam
Pema Pera: oh, how nice, what kind of performance?
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ... *makes a note*
Eden Haiku: I went to the Hague and Delft and the island of Tershelling and Groningen. I love the Netherlands.
Pema Pera: wow, you've been around
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Pema Pera: I actually grew up in Groningen!
Pema Pera: in the "far" North East of Holland
Pema Pera: and yes, I've also visited the island of Terschelling
Eden Haiku: Wow! I gave a lecture at the University of Groningen. And I saw the dams there.
Gaya Ethaniel: heh ... :) small world ...
Eden Haiku: Yes, I have a nomadic karma I guess
Pema Pera: how nice! small world indeed. What was the lecture about, Eden?
Pema Pera: sounds like your karma brings you to places I've been :-)
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Eden Haiku: Quebec literature. In French, for the Canadian Studies there. In New York, the performance was about Marcel Duchamp and the Mormons...
Pema Pera: what is the connection between Marce Duchamp and Mormons?
Eden Haiku: You are an astrophysician. What about Gaya? You are living and the UK and from Korea is that right?
Eden Haiku: There is one only in my imagination...
Gaya Ethaniel: mhm so far only Fefonz and Stim had some sort of Korea thingy in PaB :)
Pema Pera: interesting contrast, for sure, Eden :)
Gaya Ethaniel: I almost went to US instead of UK but my parents thought UK was safer ... :)
Pema Pera: :)
--BELL--
Eden Haiku: The story takes place in Salt Lake city in 1926 and New York in 1921. I did a lot of research at the Mormon Center on Broadway, in front of the Julliard School of Music.
Gaya Ethaniel: I'm afraid I need to get back to RL. Nice seeing you both, enjoy your day :)
Eden Haiku: Bye Gaya. Always a pleasure to see you.
Pema Pera: the Mormons are a very interesting movement indeed
Pema Pera: it's fascinating to see how religions change and evolve in so many different directions, especially when moving from one country to another
Eden Haiku: I remember how I made the connection between Duchamp and The Mormons now...
Eden Haiku: Yes, isn'it impressive howt5he first Mormons settled in South Lake City because it looked like the Dead Sea?
Pema Pera: yes, indeed!
Pema Pera: such an amazing literal connection
Pema Pera: but that was not the connection with Duchamp, I take it :-)
Eden Haiku: I was researching Duchamp for my performance. He used to have a studio where the School of Music is now. I was so disappointed. I was with a friend from Montreal (he is a poet also and my best friend). We had walked all the way from Soho to there, on a very hot Summer day. I thought it was close by... I saw the Mormon Church in front and I suggested we visit the place. He agreed...I was welcomed there with great kindness and I studied with two missionaries for a few months. They even came to the performance!
Pema Pera: what a wonderful personal connection! I guess that's where art is springing from, from such intersections . . . . and how nice, that they even came to the performance! Did they comment on it, later?
Eden Haiku: They enjoyed the food a lot ;-) )Two tall young men with healthy appetites! It was in my loft, there were about 20 or30 guests. They commented that I did not telle thme the whole story before...
Eden Haiku: I don,t remember exactly what part surprised them the most...The past lives stuff maybe...
Pema Pera: :-)
Eden Haiku: There was this character from planet...let me get the play. It was published in a New York literary magazine. I have a copy in my friend's bookcase.
--BELL--
Eden Haiku: I was reading «A Course in Miracles » then. A big influence...I think it starts with: This is a space of miracles...
Pema Pera: I like the opening lines of that book: Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists.
Pema Pera: Hi Another Visitor!
Pema Pera: So you combined astrophysics, past lives, Mormons, and modern art :-)
Eden Haiku: You are such a good listener Pema...I can get so carried away when I talk about my writing...
Pema Pera hasn't seen Eden get carried away yet . . . looking forward to it !
Pema Pera: actually, I should get going, back to RL
Pema Pera: it's a lovely day, 13 degrees Centigrade (that's what you use in Canada too?)
Eden Haiku: Have a great Thanksgiving Pema! Nice talking to you ;-)
Pema Pera: see you soon again, Eden!
Eden Haiku: _/|\_
Pema Pera: _/!\_ (^_^)
