The Guardian for this meeting was stevenaia Michinaga. The comments are by stevenaia Michinaga.
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Cal
stevenaia Michinaga: evening Pema
Pema Pera: Hi Calvino and Stevenaia!
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Pema Pera: small circle tonight :)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, sunday evening we get comfy here
Pema Pera: like sitting around a camp fire
stevenaia Michinaga: nice of you to join us, not your usual time
Pema Pera: nope
Pema Pera: but I thought to bring some variety in my PaB diet :)
Pema Pera: good seeing you again, Calvino, you're becoming a real regular already!
stevenaia Michinaga: he is out west, SL time, make PaB more of a dessert than a bedtime story for him
stevenaia Michinaga: speaking of diet
Calvino Rabeni: i like the group and premise. have some reservations with the technology though
Pema Pera: please do tell!
Pema Pera: I love hearing reservations :)
stevenaia Michinaga: looking for technology
Calvino Rabeni: maybe a faster computer would help, but the limited size, lag, etc. lead to residual body tensions that can accumulate to pain.
Calvino Rabeni: DUring the timeouts the first part is usually discharging those residuals
Pema Pera: ah, I thought you meant "PaB technology, like the 9-sec method :-)
Pema Pera: yes, that can be a pain
stevenaia Michinaga: thought you referred to SL itself
Calvino Rabeni: NO, PaB tech helps the SL tech work better
Pema Pera: hahaha
Pema Pera: building in wait states
Calvino Rabeni: Perhaps we can train the bodymind to handle it better.
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: did you get a chance to try the 9 sec in RL as well ?
Calvino Rabeni: As in feldenkrais style
Calvino Rabeni: yes but I didn't set clock
Pema Pera: not needed, though some people like to use a clock; it's a matter of taste
stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.feldenkrais.com/
Pema Pera: how did it go, when you tried it?
Calvino Rabeni: it's not new, so it's kind of habitual - do you find it becoming mechanical, with whatever that applies?
Pema Pera: no, since there are always new ways to just watch
Pema Pera: watch thoughts arise
Pema Pera: or appreciate what presents itself
Pema Pera: the more you open, the more you notice
Calvino Rabeni: In theory
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Beatrix
Pema Pera: the key for me is to not hold on
Pema Pera: hi Beatrix!
Pema Pera: or at least try not to
Pema Pera: the more you let go, the more flowing experience becomes, it seems
Pema Pera: you said it's not new; have you done similar kind of practices?
--BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: I find that to be true, the emptier your mind gets, the more open to be filed with new thoughts
Calvino Rabeni: The fog that comes out during the timeout seems to have a thought-suppressing power.
stevenaia Michinaga: seems to be part of the natural creative process
Pema Pera: it is soothing, yes, isn't it? (the fog)
Pema Pera: yes, Steve, and also the flow changes
Pema Pera: more fluid, it seems, when more open
stevenaia Michinaga: that;s where creativity arises
Pema Pera: less a sense of "I am thinking this" and more just thoughts thinking
stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, P. there are many mindfulness based practices I have done at one time or another.
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s a lovely moment of seeking without knowing what you will find
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: may I ask what kind, what style?
stevenaia Michinaga: who are you asking?
Pema Pera: Calvino, sorry
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Pema Pera: (I myself started with some Hindu style meditations, then more zen, and then also some TIbetan Buddhist forms)
Calvino Rabeni: Hmm, not sure where to begin - meditations, movements, martial, poetics, contemplation.
Calvino Rabeni: would be some categories
Pema Pera: pick three!
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: (not to put you on the spot)
Calvino Rabeni: No problem. it's just that I don't any more keep track of the sources or "schools" involved. Sometimes I just make them up. I think you get to ability to improvise on that basic idea.
Pema Pera: yes, I know the feeling, I often do the same, when I sit (or walk, or lie down)
Calvino Rabeni: :)
Pema Pera: as for the 9 sec practice, did that remind you of any specific form you had been working with earlier?
Calvino Rabeni: I can contextualize it if necessary.
Calvino Rabeni: Form? ues
Pema Pera: hi Paradise!
Calvino Rabeni: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Paradise
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Eliza
Pema Pera: Hi Eliza!
Paradise Tennant: hello pema .. steve cal eliza gtsy :)))))
Pema Pera: It's like being back in Princeton again!
Calvino Rabeni: hiya
stevenaia Michinaga: smiles + Cal
Pema Pera: Calvino, the four of us where in Princeton just a week ago, in a RL PaB retreat
Eliza Madrigal: Hi! :)
Calvino Rabeni: I heard that, sounds nice
Paradise Tennant: yes seems like a long time ago now :)
Pema Pera: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Tomsen
Pema Pera: The next one is in Malta, of all places
Pema Pera: Hi Tomsen!
Paradise Tennant: hello tomsen :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Tomsen :)
Pema Pera: yes
Pema Pera: for a few seconds :)
Pema Pera: feel free to join us here, with or without Beatrix :)
Pema Pera: ???
Eliza Madrigal: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: is there a banned list?
Pema Pera: we've had some real griefers, very rarely
Calvino Rabeni: :) and where is the list?
Pema Pera: who come back immediately after being ejected
Pema Pera: so the only solution is to ban them
Pema Pera: good question, does anyone remember how to look that up?
Eliza Madrigal: I've never had reason to... Hm, no
stevenaia Michinaga: sure , it seems all you have to do is check the "Philosophy House"
Pema Pera: ah, I remember
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eden :)
Pema Pera: click on the location at the top, Bieup 63, 41, 10 and then click on "access" on the top bar.
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Eden
Pema Pera: hi again Eden!
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, interesting... learned something new
Eden Haiku: Hi!
stevenaia Michinaga: thank you Pema
Pema Pera: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Calvino, nice to see you again. Did I interrupt?
Pema Pera: Hi Sharon!
stevenaia Michinaga: hello SophiaSharon
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Sharon :) ;-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: hi everyone sorry to be late
Pema Pera: Wow, really a Princeton reunion: five of us!!
Paradise Tennant: hey sophia !
stevenaia Michinaga: Adams s usually asleep at this hour
Eliza Madrigal nods
Eden Haiku: Hi Sophiai!
SophiaSharon Larnia: waves
Eden Haiku: The circle is smaller isn't it?
Paradise Tennant: hiya eden :)
stevenaia Michinaga: it can be larger is another 2 arrive
stevenaia Michinaga: *if
Eden Haiku: And there is no water in the fountain?
stevenaia Michinaga: it would splash and make us all wet
Eden Haiku: ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: We'll be steam cleaned during the 90 seconds though :)
Paradise Tennant: :)
Eden Haiku: Stm cleaned! i like that ;-)
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: For a moment I read "Stim cleaned"
Eliza Madrigal: yes me too. hah
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Pema Pera: (getting sleepy)
Paradise Tennant: :)
Eden Haiku: What would "stim" mean?
Pema Pera: Stim cleared?
Calvino Rabeni: Pema, do you (or others) read the logs and if so, how are they used?
Eliza Madrigal reads the logs
Paradise Tennant: was sorry I missed meeting stim :)
stevenaia Michinaga: Stim is another as Being person
Pema Pera: Stim is the name of one of the regular Play as Being folks, Eden
Pema Pera: there is no specific usage for the logs, Calvino
Eden Haiku: A ghost is with us!
Pema Pera: :)
Calvino Rabeni: How about an informal usage?
Pema Pera: but they can be used in many ways, like if you like to see what is being talked about while you couldn't be here
Eliza Madrigal: The logs help us to keep up with one another Calvino, and topics that come up... nurture continuity
Eden Haiku: Virtual Stim within a virtual world!
Pema Pera: :)
Calvino Rabeni: thx
Pema Pera: also it gives people outside SL a chance to see what we're doing
Calvino Rabeni: continuity is an issue
Pema Pera: if somebody googles a topic that we discuss, they may find us that way
Calvino Rabeni: ok then privacy might be an issue
Pema Pera: yes, it's a tradeoff
stevenaia Michinaga: they are also summarized in three day groups by group member
Paradise Tennant: often there are theme meetings
Calvino Rabeni: does the public nature of the logs affect what you say - i suppose it must.
SophiaSharon Larnia: although you sl name is anonymous, after a while of being here it becomes less and less so
Eden Haiku: The scribes they are called isn't it?
Pema Pera: continuity is central in PaB. You could say that we trade duration of meditation for frequency and hence continuity: 4/hour in RL, and 4/day in SL
stevenaia Michinaga: they can be edited by the Guardian who hosts who meetings
Eliza Madrigal: It is always important to use discernment, but for the most part I think one gets comfortable
Pema Pera: hard to say, Calvino, I don't feel it affects me (the public nature), but then again, I'm so used to it
stevenaia Michinaga: although editing is usually limited
Calvino Rabeni: so pema, I guess you feel it goes over OK in your academic RL, or you have the street cred to support it?
Pema Pera: I like to be open about the things we talk about here
Pema Pera: no real reason to keep anything specific confidential -- this is not a therapy group
Paradise Tennant: no more like shared learning ..
Eliza Madrigal nods
Paradise Tennant: lol learning
Eliza Madrigal giggles at the term 'street cred'
Pema Pera: that's a good question, Calvino, by no I'm okay with it
Calvino Rabeni: "reputation"
Pema Pera: but if I were younger, looking for a start of a career, I probably would use an alt :-)
Calvino Rabeni: right
Pema Pera: having tenure helps :)
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Paradise Tennant: in many ways sl is rl . just slightly different format
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: Nice to see you all tonight, thanks :)
Calvino Rabeni: when am I likely to encounter Stim around here?
stevenaia Michinaga: night Eliza
Pema Pera: nite Eliza!
Pema Pera: One more reason to make the logs public is that it gives more of a sense of seriousness to our meetings, how to say, a sense of a gesture to the world, a kind of ritual: this is what we would like to offer, to share.
Eden Haiku: Bye Eliza!
Pema Pera: Stim has a weekly slot on Monday afternoon
SophiaSharon Larnia: whoops, bye Eliza :)
Eden Haiku: Waves to Stim!
Pema Pera: http://playasbeing.wik.is/Information/Guardian_Timetable
Eden Haiku: (through the logs!)
Paradise Tennant: funny being with many of the same people .. brought back how beautiful the time in princeton was .. so peaceful
Pema Pera: is a handy list to see who is the guardian "greeter" at each slot
Pema Pera: yes, but no dog :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: the dog is in the picture
stevenaia Michinaga: on the wiki
SophiaSharon Larnia had a very hard time with the logs at first
Pema Pera: yes, Woof
Paradise Tennant: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: and still does
Pema Pera: in what way, Sharon?
SophiaSharon Larnia: everything available there to be read, good days and bad ;p
SophiaSharon Larnia: random thought that come and go, looking back to see how things have changed
Pema Pera: we'll all in the same boat, Sharon, typos & all :)
Paradise Tennant: yes there are some remarkable .. mind stretching conversations and a measure of just general chit chat :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: <--getting better at fixing typos
Pema Pera: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
We break out in "onigokko " dance
Eden Haiku: And lots of onigokko!
Pema Pera: onigokko
Calvino Rabeni: speaking of typoes
SophiaSharon Larnia: i have to go, so mice to see everyone, sorry to leave so quickly
Calvino Rabeni: *typps
Calvino Rabeni: *typos :)
Pema Pera: stop
stevenaia Michinaga: stop

Calvino Rabeni: I C

Pema Pera: yes!
Pema Pera: tengu
Calvino Rabeni: and tanuki
Pema Pera: have you been in Japan, Calvino?
stevenaia Michinaga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tengu
Calvino Rabeni: no, but I hung out in Japanese cultural zone
Pema Pera: I have the very good luck of being able to spend a few months there every year, for my work
Calvino Rabeni: Nice.
Calvino Rabeni: I have spent time in thailand
Pema Pera: never been there yet
Eden Haiku: That is luck Pema! I love Japanese culture but I haven't been there yet.
Pema Pera: have you studied some aikido too, or Reiki, or the like, Calvino?
stevenaia Michinaga: I've heard of Hundu, , buddist and Japanese demons, are they there as a devil equivalent?
Calvino Rabeni: I had my "japanese period" too.
Pema Pera: let me know when you go there, Eden! I can show you some nice places to visit :)
Eden Haiku: I studied Reiki.
Pema Pera: I visited mount Kurama recently
Pema Pera: where I believe Reiki started
Eden Haiku: Im going to India this winter, but Japan is further away I'm afraid...
