Pia Iger was guardian and prepared this log.
There were only Becka and me. We had a short talk before Becka had to leave. But Becka raised some questions that are esssential for anyone living in a culture or society.
Becka Finesmith: hi Pia
Pia Iger: Hi, Becka,
Pia Iger: how are you today?
Becka Finesmith: I'm not well at the moment :( I have developed some kind of irritation
Becka Finesmith: I'm covered in lotion to try and bring down the swelling - I look like a ghost ;)
Pia Iger: sorry to hear that. but you can still sit and type?
Becka Finesmith: yes :) Hasn't reached my ass and fingers yet ;)
Pia Iger: :)
Becka Finesmith: give it time
Becka Finesmith: How are you?
Pia Iger: maybe it is from food allergy
Becka Finesmith: the pharmacist asked me that. I haven't eaten anything different or changed soap powder or anything
Becka Finesmith: It's a bit weird. I remember having something similar when I was a kid that lasted a few days and ended up with some hideous looking blisters
Becka Finesmith: a bit like chicken pox
Becka Finesmith: but wasn't as I was tested
Something I've never seriously thought about weekends!
Becka Finesmith: And how about you? Having a nice weekend so far?
Pia Iger: it just started! morning here.
Becka Finesmith: :) Doesn't your weekend begin on Friday evening?
Becka Finesmith: ;)
Pia Iger: True. but I somehow always count from Sat.
Becka Finesmith: I try and maximise the amount of weekend time and it doesn't make the week sound so bad ;)
Pia Iger: curious. where do you count as end of weekend?:)
Becka Finesmith: Monday 9am
Becka Finesmith: :)
Pia Iger: Haha, I guesses so!
Becka Finesmith: lol
Becka Finesmith: Plenty of people I know think it ends when they fall into bed after partying on Saturday night
Becka Finesmith: It's a shame
Pia Iger: why not include Sun?
Becka Finesmith: They spend the whole day recovering from hangovers so don't even see Sunday most of the time, Such is British culture :(
Becka Finesmith: I don't do that anymore
Becka Finesmith: Although I used to when I was younger :(
Becka Finesmith: sad to say
Pia Iger: well, hard to immune to that culture if you were young and learning
Becka Finesmith: yes. I guess you follow the crowd a lot when you are young for fear of appearing aloof and different
Becka deepened the question:
Becka Finesmith: What is it with being different that so many people hate?
Pia Iger: being alone and away from a group. People need security and acceptance from a group.
Becka Finesmith: Why do you think it becomes less important as we get older?
Pia Iger: we have found some true value, so we don't need much validation from others.
Becka Finesmith: that's interesting isn't it. I wonder why more of us don't choose to live secluded lives?
Pia Iger: can you explain secluded lives you meant?
Becka Finesmith: Yes. Not seeking the company of others
Pia Iger: Practically, we are able to live by ourselves. We need less from others, esp material wise.
Becka Finesmith nods
Pia Iger: communication tools help us to keep connected, without being close by
Becka Finesmith: Like SL :)
Pia Iger: yes.
Pia Iger: that said, I still value social life, friendship very much
And further.
Becka Finesmith: Conforming to norms always seems like a compromised too
Pia Iger: yes, we have to compromise our behaviours in some way. but we need to discern the essence of the norms. Some are just social traditions, we don't have to identify or believe in it.
Becka Finesmith: interesting
Pia Iger: Many norms are made-to-believe, not much truth in them.
Pia Iger: should not blindly followed.
Becka Finesmith: yes. It's funny how we get drawn into them as apparently freethinking people
Becka Finesmith: well, RL calls and I need to apply more lotion :( It's been really nice to talk to you Pia :)
Pia Iger: ok. see you around.
Becka Finesmith: Take care and enjoy your weekend ;)
Pia Iger: get better soon.
Becka Finesmith: thank you
