The guardian for this session was Storm Nordwind. The comments are Storm's.

We talked guardian stuff for a little while at the start and how to record conversations.

Storm Nordwind: Mr Quan. How good to see you
Fefonz Quan: Hi, Good to be here too :)
    Storm Nordwind: smiles
Storm Nordwind: Have you officially taken over this slot now?
Fefonz Quan: not that i'm aware of
    Storm Nordwind: Oh OK
Storm Nordwind: I was told that you might be, or at least next week
Fefonz Quan: but i think next week it is
    Storm Nordwind: Oh OK fine
Fefonz Quan: i was not sure i'll be here today, and till next week i have three continents to visit...
Storm Nordwind: Only three. Slacking a little!
Fefonz Quan: well, just do what i can humbly
    Storm Nordwind: smiles
Fefonz Quan: btw - when do you start recording?
Storm Nordwind: As soon as you like
Storm Nordwind: Officially on the hour
Storm Nordwind: Make sure you have your logging preferences on
    Fefonz Quan: i don't think i do
Fefonz Quan: how do i get tem>
    Storm Nordwind: ctrl-P

Pila arrived while we prodded around the Preferences interface.

Pila Mulligan: hi Storm and Fefonz
    Storm Nordwind: Communication tab
    Storm Nordwind: Hi Pila
Storm Nordwind: And read the check boxes carefully
    Fefonz Quan: Hi Pila
Fefonz Quan: I see, from communication i can get to save the local chat log, - is it?
Storm Nordwind: Yes. First set Log Chat
Storm Nordwind: If you want IMs too, you can get them
Storm Nordwind: I recommend NOT showing timestamps in the chat log
Storm Nordwind: as you have to take them out later!
Storm Nordwind: And make a note of the directory or set it yourself

We were joined by someone whom I had seen wandering around the empty pavilion earlier.

    Pila Mulligan: hello joshua
Fefonz Quan: thanks, doing it right now
    Storm Nordwind: Cool
    joshua Tiponi: jello
Pila Mulligan: welcome to SL joshua
    Storm Nordwind: waves to joshua
joshua Tiponi: is this the 9 sec meditation group ?
Storm Nordwind: Yes it is. Welcome. Were you looking for it?
    joshua Tiponi: yes
joshua Tiponi: i was here last night
    Storm Nordwind: OK good!
Storm Nordwind: Were you asked about quoting your name and words on our website?
    joshua Tiponi: yes
Storm Nordwind: Glad that's OK then!
    joshua Tiponi: it is ok
    Storm Nordwind: smiles
Pila Mulligan: let me guess, are you in the land of Oz?
Pila Mulligan: 12/11/08 SL birth date and here last night suggests it :)
Pila Mulligan: I am in Hawaii so close to the time zone, but on a different day
joshua Tiponi: i had a break and i thought id stop by
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Storm Nordwind: You're always welcome to do so
Storm Nordwind: These happen every 6 hours
    joshua Tiponi: 1am 7am 1pm 7pm right
    joshua Tiponi: sl time
    Storm Nordwind: Yes that's right

At this point our autologging system went wild!

PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.

    Er... no they haven't!

PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.

    I said...

PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.

    And every second thereafter...

PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.

Storm Nordwind: I think our autologger is choking!

PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.

I shut it down with the intention of reinitialising it.

PaB Listener Master: Recording has stopped, the session is ended.
Storm Nordwind:'s PaB Listener: No longer recording. Have a nice day. :)
PaB Listener Master: The last Guardian has left the pavilion.
joshua Tiponi: idk anything about this site
    Fefonz Quan: what just happened?
joshua Tiponi: i think my internet is to slow for it
PaB Listener Master: Recording has started!

    The problem child's parent arrived!

    Wol Euler: hello everyone,
    Fefonz Quan: Hi Wol!
Wol Euler: did someone just restart the listener?
Wol Euler: I'm being flooded with IMs from it.
Storm Nordwind: Hi Wol. Your autologger just went wild
    joshua Tiponi: hello Wol
    Wol Euler: damn
    Storm Nordwind: I reinitialised it
Storm Nordwind: Fefonz changed cushions and it couldn't find a guardian and went into permanent scan
Storm Nordwind: pushing out messages all the while
    Wol Euler: O.O
Storm Nordwind: Sorry joshua - tech talk!
    joshua Tiponi: its ok
Wol Euler: there is something very odd about the scanning in this sim, it often doesn't find people who are here.
Fefonz Quan: what does it have to do with my cushion changing?
Storm Nordwind: We can ask for a sim reset if it continues
Storm Nordwind: Probably nothing that we can easily identify
joshua Tiponi: i got to go back to class anyways, it is finals... maybe all see everyone at 7pm...Peace
Wol Euler: it *should* have nothing at all to do with it, unless you went more than 17 metres away from here.
Storm Nordwind: OK joshua. Hope we'll get to chat properly soon
Wol Euler: and now storm and pila appear not to have listeners either.
Wol Euler: sorry, please continue with PaB. I shall sit and brood and mutter imprecations.
Storm Nordwind: You want me to go away and come back as an experiment?
    Wol Euler: mmmm, yes please.
    Storm Nordwind: 8, 9
    Storm Nordwind: ok
    Wol Euler: ah, fascinating!
Storm Nordwind: It rezzed on exit!
Wol Euler: it didn't "see" you until you stood up!
    Wol Euler: O.O
Wol Euler: pila, say something please?
    Wol Euler: (anything)
    Pila Mulligan: hi
Pila Mulligan: rl phone call :)
Wol Euler: ok, you have a listener (and had one before)
    Wol Euler: ty
Storm Nordwind: I was already here before the session start.
Storm Nordwind: that is before 12:50
Wol Euler: storm, could you give me a notecard from your chat log of when "the system went crazy" please?
    Storm Nordwind: sure
Wol Euler: btw, I just read a marvellous post on loneliness and unhappiness and Starbucks :)
Fefonz Quan: well, the "Starbucks" sounds interesting :)
    Wol Euler: http://dervala.net/2008/12/09/life-beyond-screens/
Wol Euler accepted your inventory offer.
    Wol Euler: ty storm
Wol Euler: ok, so what happened at 13:08?
Wol Euler: it _thought_ that everyone had left, though you three were still here
    Wol Euler: guardians all.
Storm Nordwind: Fefonz swapped cushions, that's all
Wol Euler: then storm stopped it at 13:09
Fefonz Quan: if you ask gently, i might swap again :)
Wol Euler: and restarted it? or did it autostart?
    Wol Euler: heheheheh
    Fefonz Quan: again :)
Wol Euler: not yet, let's not push our luck :)
    Storm Nordwind: I intercepted
    Storm Nordwind: I hit stop
Storm Nordwind: Then I hit initialise
    Wol Euler: ok, ty.
Wol Euler: and it saw the others but not you.
    Storm Nordwind: yup
Storm Nordwind: I'm wearing different clothes today
Fefonz Quan: i also changed the chat log save preferences
Wol Euler: that must be it!
Wol Euler: (I noticed, very elegant!)
    Storm Nordwind: smiles
Fefonz Quan: it might be more influential than the cushions issue

I needed to initiate Fefonz into Secret Order of Cushion Hiders.

Storm Nordwind: By the way Fefonz, you need to know how to control the cushions, the fountain and the pond
Wol Euler: in fact, it didn't see joshua either!
Fefonz Quan: is there a "guardian manual guide" somewhere?
Storm Nordwind: Ah... this bit hasn't been added

I imparted the gift of mystical knowledge to Fefonz.

Storm Nordwind: Does that make sense?
Fefonz Quan: it is, and if i want to show both inner & outer ones?
    Storm Nordwind: Try it
Fefonz Quan: ah ........ makes sense :)

    Fefonz flexed his magical muscles

    Storm Nordwind: wrong choice!
    Wol Euler: hehehehe
    Storm Nordwind: is getting wet
Wol Euler: right choice, wrong situation
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Fefonz Quan: cool, sorry for putting you in the water!
Pila Mulligan: it is not too deep :)
    Storm Nordwind: true
Wol Euler: the low setting is quite nice btw
Storm Nordwind: Yes I'm surprised how many people use it
Storm Nordwind: I added it almost as an afterthought
Fefonz Quan: fii, dry at last !
Storm Nordwind: shakes out his soggy garments
Storm Nordwind: So now you have received the secret initiation
Storm Nordwind: For which I will decline to charge you L$10,000
    Storm Nordwind: chuckles
Fefonz Quan: those things always include dipping of a kind
    Storm Nordwind: grins
Pila Mulligan: sounds like a derivative savings
Fefonz Quan: you can get all the L$'s i got :)
Fefonz Quan: (like after a first flight in the airforce, they through you to a big pile full of ugly liquids)
Storm Nordwind: You mean the contents of a bar? ;)
Fefonz Quan: + gasoline, machine oil and stuff
    Pila Mulligan: uck
Storm Nordwind: is glad he has not joined the military

Storm Nordwind: So, the bell just went. And you are now initiated into the mysteries of the pavilion. How's the 9 second practice going?

Fefonz recounted his tale and I had to spend a few moments checking whether all was OK.

Fefonz Quan: lately didn't do it in regular times, since i was on the move the last days.
Fefonz Quan: yet i practice it arbitrarily while sitting in coffee-shops, at the car etc.
    Storm Nordwind: nods understandingly
Storm Nordwind: Anything interesting to share?
Fefonz Quan: and also i tried it yesterday feeling a little sick
Fefonz Quan: it gave some feeling of detachment
Storm Nordwind: Sick... not the coffee then? ;)
Fefonz Quan: though didn't infect the low-energy mood
    Fefonz Quan: hope not :)
Storm Nordwind: You think the feeling of sickness and the feeling of detachment were linked?
    Fefonz Quan: i'm not sure,
Fefonz Quan: what i've noticed is that while the regular practice tends to be calming/relaxing
Fefonz Quan: and sometimes even a little uplifting
Fefonz Quan: then when there is some physical shape
Fefonz Quan: which is very evident, the experience takes a different form

    A visitor appeared.

    Pila Mulligan: hi *****
    ***** ********: Hi
    Wol Euler: hello *****, I know your cousin **** ******** :)
    Fefonz Quan: Hi *****
    Storm Nordwind: waves to *****
    ***** ********: Hi all :)
    ***** ******** waves back
Storm Nordwind: What sort of difference form Fefonz?
Pila Mulligan: yes, Fefonz, sick is sick it seems
Fefonz Quan: the overall feeling of sick/headache or things of a kind
Fefonz Quan: seem to hover constantly over the other experiences
    Storm Nordwind: Hmm...
Wol Euler is geeking and may be unresponsive :)
Fefonz Quan: so the "being" or observing of other appearances are a little in the shadow of it
Storm Nordwind: I have personally not come across that before. I wonder if anyone else has?

Storm Nordwind: watches tumbleweed cross in the silence
***** ******** grabs the tumbleweed and starts weaving silently
Wol Euler fumbles for her harmonica

Fefonz Quan: thinking of it, mostly we (i, i guess)
Storm Nordwind: reaches for the pan of beans
    Fefonz Quan: observe visual/audio/touching sensations
    Storm Nordwind: nods
Fefonz Quan: and when there is a very strong "internal" condition
Fefonz Quan: it feels like a different realm of sensations
    Pila Mulligan: yes
    Pila Mulligan: it is, probably
Fefonz Quan: almost like a different sense thatn the regular five
Pila Mulligan: being in Pittsburg instead of Phildelphia :)
Fefonz Quan: i guees, haven't been in both :)
Storm Nordwind: It would seem that you might find the sick feeling rather a disincentive though, would I be right?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Fefonz Quan: let me look disincentive somewhere...
Pila Mulligan: disincentive = something that makes you not want to do something
Fefonz Quan: yes, i got it
Fefonz Quan: well, on the external level it is
Fefonz Quan: but when we consider the internal level of practicing the PaB
Fefonz Quan: i didn't feel it encourage me to stop my observation
    Storm Nordwind: smiles and nods
Fefonz Quan: somewhat on the contrary, it was quite convenient to focus silently on the inner space
    Storm Nordwind: Ah... I see
Fefonz Quan: without the need to react on the outer world, which seemed more energy-taking
Fefonz Quan: (like talking to people, etc.)
    Storm Nordwind: Yes I see.
Storm Nordwind: Have you ever done any kind of meditation practice before PaB Fefonz?
Fefonz Quan: yes, for some years now
Fefonz Quan: mostly vipasana kind (not guanka though)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Fefonz Quan: why do you ask?
Storm Nordwind: Only to see whether you were familiar with the different sensations that can happen
Storm Nordwind: For example, I used to teach a particular kind of meditation...
Storm Nordwind: and after a certain length of time...
Storm Nordwind: I had to teach students a particular technique to stop otherwise unpleasant side effects developing
Fefonz Quan: which kinds of side effects?

With the introductions and time, this was a question that never got answered as a new visitor arrived and the first one left.

    Storm Nordwind: Hello ######
    ###### ####: hello all
    ***** ******** waves
    ###### ####: I'm new here
    Pila Mulligan: hi ######
Storm Nordwind: If you haven't been here before ######, I recommend reading our info notecard
    ###### ####: what I have to do for first ?
    ###### #### accepted your inventory offer.
Storm Nordwind: Please read that and it will tell you about what we do here
    ###### ####: I have read
Storm Nordwind: Actually we are nearing the end of our hour here, and some of will be going to the Kira Cafe for a talk
    ###### ####: I'm sorry but I'm italian and my language is not well
    ###### ####: how can I create my house '
Fefonz Quan: start with the basement :)
    ###### ####: yes but where ?
Storm Nordwind: Ah ######, this is not a general Second Life tutorial
Storm Nordwind: You seen to go to a sandbox
Storm Nordwind: Please use your search button to find one :)
Pila Mulligan: may I ask what type of meditation you taught Storm, in relation to Fefonz's question about the side effects
Storm Nordwind: This was "research meditation"
    Pila Mulligan: alpha state stuff?
Storm Nordwind: We were researching the possible effects of an ancient magical character system called runes
    Pila Mulligan: oh
Pila Mulligan: and they led to side effects?
Fefonz Quan: like the ones on ancient swords?

Yes indeed. But I had no time to answer the questions. That would have to wait till Saturday. I was intent of pasting in details of the Kira Cafe talk.

Storm Nordwind: Let us go to the Kira Cafe now
Storm Nordwind: Kat Lemieux: The ISM Works, but Why and How?

    Start Time: 2:00 PM

Kat Lemieux will be presenting a short presentation on the ISM with Q&A afterwards.

The International Spaceflight Museum (ISM) has been one of the more
successful and long-running collaborative projects in Second Life. Kat
Lemieux, one of the founders and presently President/CEO of the
nonprofit corporation begun in RL to support this SL organization,
leads a discussion on the philosophy underlying the strengths and
weaknesses of the ISM Planning Group, the people who built and operate
    the ISM.

    Pila Mulligan: ok
Storm Nordwind: And we can discuss this later perhaps
Pila Mulligan: yes, it sound interesting
    Fefonz Quan: great, it is
Fefonz Quan: See you at the cafe
Storm Nordwind: I'll take the balloon
Wol Euler looks up from geekery. Is it that time already?
    Wol Euler: bye everyone
    Fefonz Quan: can i join?
