Wol Euler was guardian for this session, which saw the (silent) return of an old acquaintance.

Wol Euler: hello claire, happy new year.
    Claire Maskelyne: Hi...
    --BELL--
    Wol Euler: good morning, Arch
Wol Euler: brb, coffee is ready and needs decanting into thermos flask
Archmage Atlantis: Good morning, Wol........coffee sounds good, brb also
    Wol Euler smiles
Archmage Atlantis: Ok, the pot is brewing
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: erm, wait, isn't this 4am?
Wol Euler: you'll be awake for good if you drink that
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, by me it is.......
Archmage Atlantis: Actually, that is always an open issue.......I tend to take unexpected random naps during the day and night.......in situ
Wol Euler: yes, I remember you saying that now.
Archmage Atlantis: which isn't bad if I'm in bed or a lounge chair, not so great when standing in the kitchen or in an office chair
    Wol Euler: O.O
Archmage Atlantis: What time is it by you?
    Wol Euler: 10:15am
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, 10 am is a frequent fall back asleep time for me
Archmage Atlantis: Especially if I'm using my medical equipment *g*........
    --BELL--
Archmage Atlantis: Coffee sb done, brb
    Wol Euler: a mini-haiku
    Archmage Atlantis: Ah, tastes good
Wol Euler smiles and raises her cup in salute
Archmage Atlantis: Do you have Starbucks coffee shops where you live, Wol?......I used to enjoy sitting with a friend, drinking a ridiculously expensive cup of coffee...talking and listening to the music :)
Wol Euler grins and nods. We have htem, yes
Archmage Atlantis: That was pre-economic crisis and physical limitations
Wol Euler: they are expensive here too, but htey seem to do a good business
Archmage Atlantis: Well, they are still trendy a bit.....and the coffee is always good
Wol Euler: they project a "home"-ness that makes people go back
    Archmage Atlantis: agree
Wol Euler: well, actually, they are less good outside of NOrth America :) European standards of coffee-making are superior to yours in general
Wol Euler: there are better coffees than Starbucks, but they are being out-competed
Archmage Atlantis: Of course, whenever the financial advisors have anything to say, they tell ppl to make coffee at home instead of paying for Starbucks
Wol Euler: (yours = north america, not you prsonally)
    Archmage Atlantis: I understood :)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Archmage Atlantis: The only European coffee I have had is Kevalia, I thinkg that is how it is spelled
Wol Euler: that's only good-ish advice IMHO. drinking coffee at home is cheap but misses out on the social interaction
Archmage Atlantis: The best coffee I have had is from the mountains in the Dominican Republic that was brought over by a friend from there
Wol Euler: mmmmm, I can believe that.
Archmage Atlantis: Yes, the social interaction is at least 50%, and maybe more of the pleasure
Wol Euler: economists have trouble with social values, because they can't put prices on them
Wol Euler: or rahter many of htem don't see that interaction HAS a value
    --BELL--
Archmage Atlantis: That brings 2 thoughts to mind.....first, there are economists that do try to value in some way social transactions.....and (2) every individual has e's own value
Archmage Atlantis: By that I mean, that individual's own scale of value.......not the individual's value per se
    Wol Euler: understood :)
Wol Euler: and yes, I am tarring all economists with a particularly narrrow and sticky brush
Wol Euler: Barry Schwarz, Daniel Kahneman ... there are forces for good there too
Archmage Atlantis: Many moons ago, when you mentioned attending a wedding, and that it had a particularly unique effect......I don't know if you remember that
Archmage Atlantis: I'm not sure if that is a topic for here or not, tho...........but someday I'd be interested in whether that positive result continues to be of value
Archmage Atlantis: Also, do you see Claire?
Wol Euler: yes, she's here :) we are IMing
Archmage Atlantis: Ah, ok.......I wasn't sure as nothing had been said
Wol Euler: we did exchange a greeting but that was just before you got here
    Archmage Atlantis: Got it
    Archmage Atlantis: np
Wol Euler: [01:35] Arch (archmage.atlantis): I'm not sure if that is a topic for here or not, tho...........but someday I'd be interested in whether that positive result continues to be of value
Wol Euler: that seems a likely topic for a non-themed session, sure
    Archmage Atlantis: Another day, then
    Wol Euler: or today.
    Archmage Atlantis: k
Wol Euler: if you mean the positive value of social interaction e.g. over coffee?
Archmage Atlantis: Yes....that.....and more...but that interaction is at the core of much comfort in rl
    Wol Euler: indeed
Archmage Atlantis: and here in sl also
Wol Euler: why would it not continue to be of value?
Archmage Atlantis: Hmmmm, I didn't mean to imply that it would not
Wol Euler reads the question again
Archmage Atlantis: So how about those Yankees?
    Wol Euler laughs.
    Archmage Atlantis: :)
Wol Euler: erm, they had a great game last time, scored a lot of baskets.
    Wol Euler: was that good?
Archmage Atlantis: As good as I could do *g*
    Wol Euler: heheheheh
    --BELL--
    Archmage Atlantis: ty bell :)
Wol Euler: all right, let's add that into your question. There are different kinds of social interaction, or perhaps "depths" is a better word
Archmage Atlantis: Both apply, I think
    Wol Euler: sure
Archmage Atlantis: diff kinds and diff depths
    Wol Euler: indeed
Archmage Atlantis: I think I'm up for the day......I have a cat looking for breakfast......and I'm need to take care of loose ends from yesterday before my ride is ready to take me to the store today........so I'm going to depart
Archmage Atlantis: Have a wonderful rest of the day, Wol
    Archmage Atlantis: Later :)
Wol Euler smiles. Thanks, Arch, and the same to you.
    Wol Euler: enjoy your friday.
