2011.01.18 19:00 - Open Dojo

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Eos
Eos Amaterasu: Ah, there you are, hi Stevenaia
Eos Amaterasu: you're not your anemone self :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: it was a bit distracting after awhile
stevenaia Michinaga: change is nice sometimes
Eos Amaterasu: even when you're your very own octopus's garden....
stevenaia Michinaga: besides, I had a dificult time spelling it
stevenaia Michinaga: I love the fish in the pond, who's wonderful idea was that?
Eos Amaterasu: the koi and the lily pads....
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Eos Amaterasu notes the fish are swimming counterclockwise
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)

stevenaia Michinaga: I've been thinking about meditation in its many forms, you meditate in a traditional manor (whatever that may be) is that right?
Eos Amaterasu: I meditate/do awareness practice/recognition in whatever forms....
Eos Amaterasu: Last few years a constant has been going on walks through these beautiful nearby woods
    Eos Amaterasu: analog walks
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    Eos Amaterasu: appreciating sense perceptions
    Eos Amaterasu: under my feet
Eos Amaterasu: I can enter a part where there is no gravel underfoot, just the forest floor
Eos Amaterasu: on which you walk in a softer, more responsive and perceptive way
stevenaia Michinaga: I am amazed at the variety of forms meditation can take place, how adaptable we are to the nature of meditation
stevenaia Michinaga: ways to relax the busy mind and see more
Eos Amaterasu: as many as there are things, phenomena, ways of looking and being, that many are there ways of.... just being there :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: the list seems endless
stevenaia Michinaga: many of which are brought here to our group by so many people
Eos Amaterasu: interesting to be able to hold an intersection of these many ways and people
Eos Amaterasu: and to keep that open and genuine and authentic
Eos Amaterasu: with no big boss man :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: even using simple words, yes, I don;t remember one argumant about preferential ways to meditate :)

    --BELL--

stevenaia Michinaga: each is valid and some quite unique. Sometimes it isn't even called meditation, until you realize it's what it was all along... like your walks
stevenaia Michinaga: drawing, painting, knitting, pondering purposefully
stevenaia Michinaga: taking your mind for a walk
Eos Amaterasu: taking your walk in mind
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Eos Amaterasu: I started doing this regularly because I needed to get more exercise
Eos Amaterasu: so actually I often walk quite fast
Eos Amaterasu: but don't bring any iPods - it's all analog
    Eos Amaterasu: senses open
stevenaia Michinaga: we call that a New York City pace here
    Eos Amaterasu: mind open
Eos Amaterasu: sometimes blue and green
    Eos Amaterasu: sometimes crows kawing
Eos Amaterasu: sometimes thoughts bubbling up solving their own problems
stevenaia Michinaga: like sleep does sometimes
    Eos Amaterasu: yes
Eos Amaterasu: I think even in daytime thoughts come up like that... we only think we think them.... :-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s just a matter of leting the mind do its work
stevenaia Michinaga: someone in my Tai CHi class was saying she does suduko much better after she does Tai Chi
Eos Amaterasu: the ancient masters would be proud :-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol

    the open dojo...

Eos Amaterasu: I believe that 'dojo' just means 'practice space'
Eos Amaterasu: so this pavilion is a dojo
Eos Amaterasu: and the hour or so sessions last are also dojos
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
    stevenaia Michinaga: helllo Cal
Eos Amaterasu: and the 90 seconds pauses within that are dojos
Eos Amaterasu: as are possible 9 secs throughout the day
    Calvino Rabeni: good evening
    Eos Amaterasu: hi cal
Eos Amaterasu: that can be a dojo for ourselves
Eos Amaterasu: but also for ourselves together
Eos Amaterasu: in a way Play as Being for me may be about providing such Open Dojo space/time
Eos Amaterasu: those are just space/time handles
Eos Amaterasu: the love handles of Being
Eos Amaterasu: It's like Ringo in Yellow Submarine says, "I have a hole in my pocket"
Eos Amaterasu: and pulls out the hole
Eos Amaterasu: we can offer such holes, little open dojos
stevenaia Michinaga: the question I always ask w/o ever saying the answer is what is it that continues to draw me here, ofcourse the answer never really matters
    stevenaia Michinaga: I return
stevenaia Michinaga: a place to listen works nicely
Eos Amaterasu: I like being here even when I'm all alone

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu: I was looking at a old log that Eliza had recommended
    http://wiki.playasbeing.org/Chat_Logs/2009/08/2009.08.06_07%3a00_-APAPB_%22We_LOVE_Homework%22
Eos Amaterasu: in terms of APAPB
Eos Amaterasu: appreciate the presence of appearance as a presentation by being
Eos Amaterasu: and came across this great section by Genesis Zhangsun, re appreciating appearances both internal and external:
    Eos Amaterasu:

genesis Zhangsun: what I find so radical about it is that it heals the gap for me in the sence of outer and inner
genesis Zhangsun: into one fundamental reality
genesis Zhangsun: it also presents a groundless "ground"
genesis Zhangsun: one that does not require cultivation
genesis Zhangsun: or action to maintain it
    genesis Zhangsun: just see it

Eos Amaterasu: There's a kind of tension of inner and outer that always there
Eos Amaterasu: always maintaining me vs other
    Eos Amaterasu: self
Eos Amaterasu: and sometimes you can realize it was there when it suddenly goes away
Eos Amaterasu: cause it's so all pervasive it's hard to notice, the tension of inside/outside, self/other(s)
stevenaia Michinaga: I find the moment you can see it is usually during the 90 seconds of silence, when so many thing come alive that you usually don't take note of
stevenaia Michinaga: as if your vision shifts
stevenaia Michinaga: the birds that have always been singing are heard
Eos Amaterasu: yeah, when you're not pushing against the outside world, or inside state of mind, then you can just rest, and Being presenting appearance just naturally wells up
stevenaia Michinaga: I appriciate the "always there but never noticed" moments in my life
    Eos Amaterasu: kitchen sink level
    stevenaia Michinaga: kitchen sink?
Eos Amaterasu: mundane parts of life
Eos Amaterasu: where we spend a lot of time
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, that aren;t so munane
Eos Amaterasu: preparing for the non-mundane :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: the things you feel (finally) that were always there but you never stopped to describe them, or see them
    stevenaia Michinaga: or feel them
Eos Amaterasu: Vermeer paintings can have that quality
Eos Amaterasu: that quality is not a museum quality
Eos Amaterasu: the kitchen is also the open dojo
Calvino Rabeni: Domestic scenes with lots of light and different areas to inhabit
stevenaia Michinaga: nods and we all have the ability to see that if we choose too
Calvino Rabeni: with people in them paying attention to things
Eos Amaterasu: also lots of tastes and colors, and hosting of conversations

    --BELL--

Eos Amaterasu is noting the current in the pond
    stevenaia Michinaga: NE to SW
    Eos Amaterasu: SophiaSharon's fish
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: now they are all swining
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: swiming
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Korel
    Korel Laloix: Heya
    Eos Amaterasu: HI Korel
Eos Amaterasu: Have you been to Play as Being here before?
    Calvino Rabeni: Hey K
Korel Laloix: I have thank you.
stevenaia Michinaga: we were admiring the koi
    Korel Laloix: The fish?
Eos Amaterasu: and the water lilies are by Calvino?
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
Korel Laloix: Ah... the lillies are stil rezing for me.
Eos Amaterasu: I will depart after the next bell
Eos Amaterasu: any suggestions on how to approach the 90 seconds coming up?
Korel Laloix: How to approach it?
Eos Amaterasu: the 90 second pause that happens here every 15 minutes
Eos Amaterasu: there can be hints at how to explore the pause, such as "Appreciate the Presence of Appearance"
Korel Laloix: Oh I know that bit... but how to approach it?
Korel Laloix: Oh.... not seen that yet.
Eos Amaterasu: or "watch thoughts arise without grabbing them or pushing them away"
Calvino Rabeni: How to do or be with it ...There is 90 seconds time, there is attention, and there is an open question what may happen given those two things
    Eos Amaterasu: parentheses around space
Eos Amaterasu: appreciate whatever appearance appears, without bias
Korel Laloix: Why is there a need to fell the silence?

    --BELL--

Korel Laloix: I sorta like quiet by itself.
    Korel Laloix: fill
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye Eos
Eos Amaterasu: thank you stevenaia, Cal, Korel, bye!
    Korel Laloix: Ciao bello
    stevenaia Michinaga: bedtime for me
    Korel Laloix: OK...
    Korel Laloix: Take care.
    stevenaia Michinaga: night Cal, Korel
Calvino Rabeni: Good night - thanks :)
    Calvino Rabeni: Good session
    Calvino Rabeni: Spare on words
    Korel Laloix: Spare on words?
Calvino Rabeni: Today's session had more space and quiet, less talking :)
Calvino Rabeni: Um, than average I suppose
Korel Laloix: I have been to a couple of very quite ones.
Korel Laloix: But Id on't mind.
    Calvino Rabeni: nods
Korel Laloix: I don't typle very well either eveidently.... smiles
    Calvino Rabeni: hehehe
Calvino Rabeni: You type a litle like me
Korel Laloix: I was wondering.. why are there cusions in the pond?
    Calvino Rabeni: hehe
Calvino Rabeni: There are some but I don't see them
Korel Laloix: The rez before teh pond for me most days.
Korel Laloix: I ended up sitting in the pond a few times ealy on.... grins
    Calvino Rabeni: it is adjustable
Calvino Rabeni: this could be for a smaller group to sit closer
Korel Laloix: Maybe they are for the fish..
Calvino Rabeni: I'd imagine it could tickle to sit on the cushions where the fish swim through
Korel Laloix: Tickeling is underrated in my opinion.
Calvino Rabeni: is it better to give, or to receive?
Korel Laloix: I won't limit myself to either option.
Korel Laloix: Has to be with the right person though.... smiles
    Calvino Rabeni: smiles .
Calvino Rabeni: play wrestling can be fun too. with the right person of course

    --BELL--

Korel Laloix: I like to wrestle with my nephews.
    Calvino Rabeni: two?
    Calvino Rabeni: at once? :)
    Calvino Rabeni: :)
Korel Laloix: I have two old enough right now.
    Calvino Rabeni: Lucky
Korel Laloix: It will be funny when they grow up though... the will probably be three times my size....
Calvino Rabeni: But they could still think you bigger
    Korel Laloix: Could be.
Korel Laloix: My sisters in law and brothers are all very tall.
Calvino Rabeni: I have a brother who is tall, but like a bear
    Calvino Rabeni: Likes fish
Korel Laloix: I do like fresh water fish.
Korel Laloix: PErch and bass and the like.
Korel Laloix: Not a huge seafood fan though.
Calvino Rabeni: I was thinking salmon

    Calvino Rabeni: :)
Calvino Rabeni: Well, you missed a lots of sitting, with a few words spoken from time to time

eldir Resident: the cirlce is very small
    eldir Resident: only one Koi
Korel Laloix: WE are siting on the fish cousions.
eldir Resident: Calvino you have been re-decorating the pavillion
eldir Resident: or my viewer is not showing some things
Calvino Rabeni: some people did different things
Calvino Rabeni: I put the info box and the lilly pad
Calvino Rabeni: Someone else put the fish
eldir Resident: who put in the Koi?
eldir Resident: this little fountain is like a campfire
Calvino Rabeni: Sharon put the koi
eldir Resident: only wet and cold
Calvino Rabeni: sometimes there's a fire
eldir Resident: Korel you have the most interesting profile. please forgive that I read it
    Korel Laloix: Ok... thanks.
Korel Laloix: THis si my new AV.
Calvino Rabeni: the profiles are not necessarily secret
Korel Laloix: Just starting to switch over from Freud Jungsten.
Korel Laloix: I put mine there to be read.
eldir Resident: ah, that seems to connect
eldir Resident: see, I read the chat logs more then come to sessions
Calvino Rabeni: that's interesting ...So we can talk to you by writing into the chat log :)
eldir Resident: ha, there is a Koi fish circling under the flooring
eldir Resident: yes I can read about it
eldir Resident: you are the authors
eldir Resident: I am the audience
    eldir Resident: except for tonight
eldir Resident: somebody else is the audience
Calvino Rabeni: it might be like a letter, you can write back later or say it in person, your choice
eldir Resident: sometimes I want to do that
Calvino Rabeni: It might show up in the log
Calvino Rabeni: "Hello eldir, I was thinking about what you said that session you appeared .. what I'd like to know is ..."
eldir Resident: have you read.... (what is that authors name... the Sabine and ... books)
Calvino Rabeni: And you could take it up next time
    Korel Laloix: Griffen and Sabine?
    Calvino Rabeni: What's that about?
eldir Resident: the juxipostion would be great
    eldir Resident: yes, those books
Calvino Rabeni likes it when people say "juxtaposition"
Korel Laloix: Looking up the word.
Calvino Rabeni: sometimes "collateral" too, but juxtaposition is more fun
eldir Resident: yes it is one of the great words to write and say
Calvino Rabeni: it means two things side by side that aren't usually together
Korel Laloix: This places pushes my english a bit... I like that.

    --BELL--

eldir Resident: honey, my nature language is english and I don't know what people are saying most time
Calvino Rabeni: I like words that are fun to SAY
Calvino Rabeni: the meaning is of lesser importance :)
    Calvino Rabeni: like "ubiquity"
eldir Resident: there are some very fun words to say out loud
Korel Laloix: I know that one.
Calvino Rabeni: And also .. hmm maybe around the right person(s) - "orality"
Korel Laloix: Gets used in my readings.
    eldir Resident: onimatapia
Korel Laloix: Not heard that one.
Korel Laloix: That is a petry thing right?
eldir Resident: (spelling may be wrong)
    Korel Laloix: poetry
Korel Laloix: English spelling escapes me.. but my typing is horrid as well.
eldir Resident: most times I just talk and talk to hear the fun words
    Calvino Rabeni looks it up
eldir Resident: and then just laugh
    Calvino Rabeni: http://www.google.com/search?q=defin...poeias&spell=1
eldir Resident: thank you I can not spell it
    Calvino Rabeni: Well enough!
eldir Resident: what does the spell=1 do?
Calvino Rabeni: I don't know! We could try it without that piece
eldir Resident: Korel (please forgive me, but) you are one of the most interesting people in PaB at this time
    Korel Laloix: ?
    Korel Laloix: THank you.
eldir Resident: There were some others that I did not meet
Korel Laloix: Can I ask why you would say that?
eldir Resident: you have a culture that I just do not know, but want to
Korel Laloix: Oh OK.. I do find looking at other cultures interesting as well.
eldir Resident: I know growing up in US (funny word) as a minority
eldir Resident: but you really do too
Korel Laloix: I just don't get white people some times... but it is fun to watch.. smiles
Calvino Rabeni: they are pretty puzzling to me sometimes
Korel Laloix: I was thinking about this the other day, I have only dated white women.
eldir Resident: my grandmother and mother telling me stories of years ago
Korel Laloix: I do love the story times at the powwows.
Korel Laloix: THe storries are not that good sometimes, but just the event is great.
eldir Resident: I have been to a powwow
    Korel Laloix: Which one?
eldir Resident: (hard to remember) was in Oklahoma
Korel Laloix: THer are some great ones here.
Korel Laloix: ZBeen to most of the ons in the state.
eldir Resident: oh dear, I do not remember the name. I just remember being there
eldir Resident: a lot of dancing and dancers

    eldir Resident: beautidul feathers
Korel Laloix: I am not very good... I only place becuase I have great endurance... being across country runner.
Korel Laloix: But my form is pretty crap.

    Korel Laloix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlCvy...eature=related
Korel Laloix: I am in this video.
eldir Resident: It was nice that they (seemed) to treat us better then the whites
Korel Laloix: It realy depends on a lot of things.
Korel Laloix: Most powwows are now having enrollee only days.
Korel Laloix: I don't mind the tourest days.... I walk around with the Ask Me! shawl or butons on.
Korel Laloix: I think it is unreasonalbe to open the event up and then expect stranges to know the maners of teh ocation.
eldir Resident: what beautiful shawls and complete outfits
eldir Resident: may I be so bold as to ask which one is you?
Korel Laloix: The term is regalia.
    eldir Resident: thank you
Korel Laloix: I preffer not to say.
Korel Laloix: But hank you for your interest.
eldir Resident: that is another fun word to say
    eldir Resident: only, I understand
    eldir Resident: OK*
eldir Resident: I had a guide who explained a little before we went
Korel Laloix: It is good to some homework before you go.
Korel Laloix: I just love the events though....
Korel Laloix: Some are pretty cheesy.
    eldir Resident: that happens
Korel Laloix: But I love the dancing bit sand the stories... and in some you cn get some real native food.
eldir Resident: it is the stories I go for
Korel Laloix: And a lot of tims you get info on organizations like Native Seed Search and other conservation activites.
    Korel Laloix: http://www.nativeseeds.org/
eldir Resident: Thank you, more research
Korel Laloix: They do some great things.
Korel Laloix: Grandma and I order most of our stuff from them for the garden.
Korel Laloix: And their fire brownie mix is lovely.
Korel Laloix: At bit expensive but worth it for what they do.
    eldir Resident: oh my,
Calvino Rabeni: Native seeds .. thanks, I will send it to my mother
Korel Laloix: If you are enrolled you get a discount.
Korel Laloix: On a tribal register I mean.
eldir Resident: so many garden memories
Korel Laloix: I do love a garden.
Korel Laloix: Sunflowers and squash I love to watch grow.
eldir Resident: no matter where you go in the world. You can talk to somebody that does not speak your language by reaching down a taking a handfull of their soil
Korel Laloix: OK does have some great farmland....
eldir Resident: oh yes, sunflowers. the way they turn
Korel Laloix: Another things I love is going to the herbal medicine talkes.

eldir Resident: ah, that would be fabulous to know/talk with them
    eldir Resident: ha
Korel Laloix: They do know a lot though.
Korel Laloix: Here is a good place to learn as well...
    Korel Laloix: http://www.manataka.org/page52.html
Calvino Rabeni: I wonder if sweetgrass can be grown from seeds
eldir Resident: I feel so bad that I lived in the city too many years
Korel Laloix: I never grow it... I jsut pick up in bundels when I go to powwows.... that and the white sage
eldir Resident: I remember hunted a special Ragweed that was actually good for you
eldir Resident: I got to roam fields and fields
eldir Resident: and that became the pleasure
Korel Laloix: Not sure which one that would be... but I am not that knowledgable.
Korel Laloix: Ever been to a national grassland?
Calvino Rabeni: mm not at a good time of year
    eldir Resident: not sure
Calvino Rabeni: I want to go
    Korel Laloix: http://www.fs.fed.us/grasslands/
Korel Laloix: SOme of my favorite places in the word....breathtaking quiet.
Korel Laloix: And you can feel the energy from the grass like you can from an old tree..... love it.
    Calvino Rabeni: Yes
Calvino Rabeni: I like grasses - put plenty virtual ones in my little plot of land here
    Calvino Rabeni: *
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
Korel Laloix: So many beutiful places.
eldir Resident: oh that is so beautiful
eldir Resident: the little grasses I have by the ocean are nothing next to those
eldir Resident: we traveled across California and I stopped the car by the biggest view of grasses I had ever seen
eldir Resident: kids and all screaming about being late and let's go
    Korel Laloix: Ok.... take care.
eldir Resident: I stood out in there
    Korel Laloix: Sorry wrong box.
    eldir Resident: :)
    eldir Resident: that happens
Korel Laloix: I love big open fields.
Korel Laloix: Some like forests though.
eldir Resident: we pretend our little human things. Until struck up side the head by nature
eldir Resident: trees, even the Redwoods, are just very tall/old grasses
Korel Laloix: Well we can do some pretty amazing things... but the plannet is still way bigger than us.

    --BELL--

eldir Resident: and yet somehow/someway we think we are important and are the center of the universe
Korel Laloix: I think we are important..... but not the center.
eldir Resident: so egoistical that we will not join into all that is
Korel Laloix: I think you just have to have a ballance about it.
Korel Laloix: And weare tiping in the wrong directiong right now I think.
eldir Resident: sorry, is a reaction to some .... (center of his universe) driving down my street with car sterio up full
Korel Laloix: Some music is better loud though.... especially the stuff I like....
eldir Resident: lol, mine too :) but not his
Korel Laloix: It is alwasys like that.
Korel Laloix: My stuff is stuff your crap is crap.
eldir Resident: kid the other day had a great sayi......
eldir Resident: oh, you have it
eldir Resident: Your stuff is shit, my shit is stuff
Korel Laloix: Same thing.... lol.. but true.
    eldir Resident: yes, so true
    eldir Resident: yet sad
eldir Resident: how can it be both
eldir Resident: I like this group
eldir Resident: nobody else lets me talk this way
Korel Laloix: It canbe good here.

    Calvino Rabeni: Dream well, bye
eldir Resident: ah there is that
    Korel Laloix: Ciao.
