Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): if you had not put 'grins' I would not noticed:))

Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Like Aph with 'doing the undoable' :)))

Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zen, Maxine, Wol
    Wol Euler: hello all
Adams Rubble: Hello Zen, Maxine and Wol :)
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): hi everyone:)
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Wollie! ♥
    Wol Euler smiles and waves
    Zen (zen.arado): Hi everyone :)
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Hello Zen :)

Eliza Madrigal: Hope everyone is happy and well today :) We can give a few minutes for everyone to arrive then begin our discussion about retreats! :)
    Wol Euler: yay
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): yay x 2
Maxine Walden: hi, all, sorry, had trouble sitting down!
Wol Euler: oh, is the theme session this afternoon?
    Pema Pera: oh? what time?
Eliza Madrigal: My understanding is that it is next weekend
    Pema Pera: ah!
    Wol Euler: huh
    Wol Euler: okay :)
Wol Euler has no idea of time or date, alas.
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Riddle :)
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Yo rid
    Adams Rubble: theme session?
    Wol Euler: hello riddle
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): hello Rid:)
Eliza Madrigal: for the Vashon retreat, Adams
Riddle Sideways whispers: ers hi all
    Adams Rubble: Hello Riddle
    Adams Rubble: ahhh
    Adams Rubble: thanks
    Zen (zen.arado): Hi Riddle
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): What time will that be?
Eliza Madrigal: Aphrodite updated the upcoming theme session page on the wiki

Maxine Walden: Right, the review of the Vashon retreat has been postponed til next Sunday 1300 so that we could get our presentation together
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Ah thx

Adams Rubble: There also is an art history workshop nexxt Sunday that may interst some of you
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Yes, thx Adams, got the GN
Maxine Walden: is that at noon, Adams?
    Wol Euler: oh?
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks Maxine :) And yes the description did sound very interesting Adams... say more? :)
Adams Rubble: yes, I'll send out a notice to the email gorup
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Druth :)
Adams Rubble: It is is on paintings of 17c Dutch Church Interiors
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Hello Druth
Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): I've not read about this event next Sunday Adams..can you give more information?
    Zen (zen.arado): Hi Druth
    Adams Rubble: Hello druth :)
    druth Vlodovic: hey
    Maxine Walden: very nice, Adams
    Wol Euler: nice
    Wol Euler: ty
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): yw :)
Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): I will be aware of the email of group then:)
    Adams Rubble: http://rci.rutgers.edu/~beetham/art_history_SL/

Eliza Madrigal: I suppose the way to begin is to ask for thoughts from everyone, on what makes sense going forward. Four official retreats per year seemed too much in some ways, so perhaps smaller gatherings/more local are appealing...
    Wol Euler nods.
Eliza Madrigal: of course not everyone is too near to others, but perhaps there are more options than we've dreamt of
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Maxine Walden: (always more options than we dream of) :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)))

Wol Euler: one possible difficulty (that we talked about in Halifax) is perhaps simply the length of the retreats. A week is a long time for many people to take off
Wol Euler: perhaps we could do lots of tiny retreats? Friday evening to Sunday afternoon sort of thing
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Hello San
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Santoshima :) I'll give you a note with the discussion so far
    Wol Euler: hello santo
    Maxine Walden: interesting thought Wol
    Zen (zen.arado): Hi Santo
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Would people really want to travel half way round the world for the sake of 3 days tho?
    Santoshima: hi everyone
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): hi San :)
Zen (zen.arado): yeh the other consideration
Wol Euler: no, but that is the point ;) the majority of us don't want to travel that far at all. They would be for locals, who wouldn't dream of going to california
druth Vlodovic: we need one of those maps with pins for member locations :)
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Right, ok
Wol Euler: but might go to Brussels
Wol Euler: (example, local to some of us)

Maxine Walden: this might be where more local retreats are an interesting idea...as Wol is mentioning
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): So 'localisation' seems to be the key word
    Wol Euler nods.
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): :)
Eliza Madrigal: Local retreats would probably tend to be more urban?
    Wol Euler nods.
    Eliza Madrigal: hotels and such?
Riddle Sideways: Pema's pin would be moving too much
Wol Euler: that is very likely, alas
    Eliza Madrigal: :) Riddle
    Pema Pera: ?
Pema Pera: ah, pin on map!
Wol Euler: it would give them a different flavour than the week-longs
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): The one in the map? :p
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Wol Euler smiles.
Adams Rubble: Of course we all are locals to the Bieup retreat center
    Eliza Madrigal: yes :)
    Wol Euler: !
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Indeed

Pema Pera: there seem to be roughly three clusters: North America's West and East coast and Europe, is that correct?
Zen (zen.arado): yeh I can walk here
    Wol Euler smiles.
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Yes Pem, seems so

    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): the moon
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): (JK)
    Pema Pera: :-)
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): :))
    Zen (zen.arado): leaves out Aussies
Eliza Madrigal: ::;sings::: fly me to the moon... la la la

Eliza Madrigal: I imagine some of us might feel a loss if there were no more week long retreats at all
    Wol Euler: heheh
Eliza Madrigal: but 4 a year is a lot :)
Wol Euler: yes, eliza, true. I'd like to suggest that we somehow keep one week-long per year
    Wol Euler: *at least

Pema Pera: where would be a good place, and when, for the long retreat we are longing for?
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): the moon
    Pema Pera: (Jupiter or Mars?)
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Bit far to walk tho
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): is there a place that is cost effective?
Riddle Sideways erases all the silly places was about to write
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): hehe, riddle
    Eliza Madrigal: aww
    Pema Pera: :)
Santoshima: Windhorse farm, NS / or SeatoSky retreat centre near Whistler bc / or ___

Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Atlantis, if it existed...
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): :))

Eliza Madrigal: It would seem nice to alternate, have perhaps 2 spots? one in Europe and one in US?
    Wol Euler nods.
    Santoshima: canada?
    Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): nods
Pema Pera: where in Europe would work best?
Eliza Madrigal: Yes Canada.... should have said NA
    Santoshima: see suggestion above
Wol Euler: Europe is tiny by american standards, almost anywhere central is equally accessible
    Santoshima: for canada

Wol Euler: for people coming from the US, there is a difference between say Lisbon and Frankfurt (involves changing planes) but the difference between Paris and Vienna is probably only 40 extra minutes flight time
Zen (zen.arado): places with good transportconnections
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Eliza Madrigal: The once a year retreats would likely be larger than they have been
Zen (zen.arado): direct flights would be best tho?
Riddle Sideways: sounds like twice a year. one on different continuent
Wol Euler: ideally, yes, very near to a major airport
Eliza Madrigal: where possible for sure Zen!
Zen (zen.arado): so capitals like London ?
Riddle Sideways: Big Sur is not near an airport
Santoshima: or near enough to an airport so long as ground transportation is good
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Good music tho
Susan Sorensson (iwandertoo): great drive, riddle
Eliza Madrigal: Or, maybe we take it year by year... or two years at a time
Pema Pera: Wol's retreat a year ago was convenient, near Frankfurt airport
    Wol Euler nods.

Maxine Walden: One place that may be cost effective, tho not center of the world, is near Seattle. The Vashon lighthouse
Wol Euler: it would be easy enough to arrange ground transport from Frankfurt
Wol Euler: an hour by bus, no more
    Riddle Sideways: :) @ Maxine
Pema Pera: Yes, Seattle too has good international connections
    Santoshima: Vancouver
    Santoshima: too
Wol Euler: there are surely places like Vachon and Rinhof near every major airport
Wol Euler: for certain values of "near"

Eliza Madrigal: Vashon seemed wonderful... wonder about limitations on numbers there though, if the retreat had been twice te size?
    Pema Pera: yes, same, Santo
Maxine Walden: ah, yes, we could not really accomodate more than 9 (legally) at the lighthouse
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aphrodite :)
    Riddle Sideways: ouch, Hi Aph

Wol Euler: I'd like to suggest that if the groups are likely to be larger, then we should consider out-of-town retreat centres with catering provided
    Zen (zen.arado): Hi Aph
    Santoshima: yes
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Hello bear girl :)
Pema Pera: whereas Wol's retreat center can easily accomodate larger groups
    Santoshima: how many people?
Aphrodite Macbain: sorry Riddle. Hi evryone. Sorry I'm ate
Wol Euler: otherwise the day-by-day coordination might weaken the atmosphere
    Santoshima: are we talking about?
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): hi Aph:)
Santoshima: ho many people are we talking about?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Xirana
    Santoshima: how
Eliza Madrigal: The first PaB RL retreat was around 12 or 14?
    Santoshima: ok
    Pema Pera: 12
    Santoshima: ty
Pema Pera: then 10 in Malta
Pema Pera: then typically 6 or so
Pema Pera: but that was with 4 x per year
    Aphrodite Macbain: 6 at Vashon

Santoshima: maybe we could compile a list of potential retrat centres that someone here is familiar with, and then chose from that list
Pema Pera: so 1x per year probably more like 10 or more
    Santoshima: it could include information
    Santoshima: abut each
    Pema Pera: good idea, Santo!
    Eliza Madrigal: yes, both
    Wol Euler nods.
Santoshima: i'd be happy to help in that effort
    Pema Pera: great, thank you!
    Maxine Walden: great, San!
Wol Euler: you have to walk into that half of the room to sit there, aph :)
    Eliza Madrigal: wonderful Santoshima, appreciated
    Wol Euler smiles.

    Santoshima: what is the timeline?
Eliza Madrigal: Summer 2012 as the next target? what do we all think?
    Wol Euler nods.
Santoshima: so good to decide location soon so that people can plan
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Aphrodite Macbain: would it beon another continent next time?
Wol Euler: kyoto in late October/early November 2013? :)
    Eliza Madrigal: @@
    Riddle Sideways: :)
    Wol Euler: (autumn colours!)
    Pema Pera: (^_^)

Eliza Madrigal: There had been some discussion of Ireland before as well...
    Eliza Madrigal: thoughts, Zen?
Zen (zen.arado): would be nice for me anyway :)
Zen (zen.arado): your mic is open Santo
Riddle Sideways: San, you mic is on
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Owwwwwwwwwwww
Aphrodite Macbain: ah- wondered what that was
Aggers (agatha.macbeth) turns down the speakers
    Maxine Walden: :)
Eliza Madrigal: not sure of the accomodations or details in planning re Ireland but good to have on the list :)
Zen (zen.arado): I can give details of retreat centre
Santoshima whispers: i will need to leave this meeting soon, eliza or someone, can you let me know the balance of conversation?
    Eliza Madrigal: OK, great
    Wol Euler: sure

Eliza Madrigal: And sure Santoshima... also, we'll post it pretty quickly on the wiki :)
Riddle Sideways: each of us could contribute to a master list of availables near each
Wol Euler: bye santo, take care
    Zen (zen.arado): http://www.drumalis.co.uk/
    Eliza Madrigal: Nice idea Riddle
Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Liz is Ms Quick :)
Santoshima: an if you would like me to gther the retreat information, how that could be sent to me? otherwise, i'll await some indication.
Aphrodite Macbain: Love to go to Ireland
Santoshima: i will need to leave this meeting soon .... and thenm the rest above
    Maxine Walden: mic open again...
    Eliza Madrigal: :))))
    Riddle Sideways: :))
    Eliza Madrigal giggles
    Santoshima: drat
    Aphrodite Macbain: san :-)
    Santoshima: sorry
Pema Pera: the sound of the surf on the light house?
Santoshima: the surf of the comupter buzz
Maxine Walden: yes, Pema, the surf at the lighthouse
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Pema Pera: muted voices of sailors :)
Aphrodite Macbain: and the cry of the gulls
Eliza Madrigal: Maybe it would be a good WG topic....
    Aphrodite Macbain: sound?
    Pema Pera: gulls?
Eliza Madrigal: and Santoshima you might attend one of those meetings... re compiling the retreat list?
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): topic?
    Maxine Walden: sailors?
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): :D
    Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
    Eliza Madrigal plays straight man
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Hello sailor
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Maxine Walden: the sailor and the straight man....I can see it now
    Zen (zen.arado): :)
Santoshima: bye for now, apology for the mic
    Maxine Walden: straight
Eliza Madrigal: No worries at all Santo, thanks
    Aphrodite Macbain: by san
    Zen (zen.arado): bye Santo
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): bye San:)
Pema Pera: bye Santo, thanks again!
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Bye

Eliza Madrigal: So I wonder if with these sessions, it would be good to come back to this topic, of the once-a-year retreat, in a few weeks... and move on to 1. SL retreats, and 2. smaller gatherings
Eliza Madrigal: that will give time for a list to develop
    Wol Euler nods.

Zen (zen.arado): thinking Spain would be nice
Zen (zen.arado): and good weather :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Olé
    Maxine Walden: :)

Aggers (agatha.macbeth) wonders how Moon is these days
    Xirana (xirana.oximoxi): yes! :)

Wol Euler: I can put up Rinhof
Wol Euler: and could research others near FRA
Eliza Madrigal: Miami, I'm afraid, is just too darn expensive... have been on the look-out for a few years and haven't found a good seasonal option
Aphrodite Macbain: would anyone be interested in the Canadian Rockies?
    Wol Euler: sure :)
Riddle Sideways: Eliza, how about the Keys

druth Vlodovic: what makes a good retreat location?
    Wol Euler: quiet :)
    Eliza Madrigal: great question
Wol Euler: self-contained, but with plenty of room to walk around outside
    Adams Rubble: people?
Zen (zen.arado): that place in Ireland is eerily quiet
Eliza Madrigal: yes, and good food options
    Riddle Sideways: nature
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
    Aggers (agatha.macbeth): Stormont?
    Zen (zen.arado): no it's noisy :)
