stevenaia Michinaga was the Guardian on call tonight, the comments are stevenaia's

I arrived about 20 minuted early, inviting friends to the meeting. They also arrived early so I began the the discussion with introductions to the group.  I started out with only the small center pillows showing expecting a small  thursday group similar to the past few weeks.....I learned not to assume as the group gathered.

I began informally with my friends but decided to keep it as part of the log.

    Dharma Voyager: hey there!

Dharma Voyager: I told her you would explain it to her yourself

Dharma Voyager: I'm not sure I would do it justice

stevenaia Michinaga: hi Soloari, nice to see you

    Solari Georgia: Hiya Steve

    Dharma Voyager: hey sol!

    stevenaia Michinaga: haha, thanks

Dharma Voyager: they have a real big group here

    Solari Georgia: Hey Dharma

Dharma Voyager: I tend to over simplify things

stevenaia Michinaga: It doesn;t start for 20 minutes

stevenaia Michinaga: Dharma and I are warming up

    Dharma Voyager: hahahha

    Solari Georgia: ahh, prep time

Dharma Voyager: this is a really organized group

Dharma Voyager: how many people do you have no stevie?

    Solari Georgia: lol

    Dharma Voyager: he wishes

Dharma Voyager: and dreams... it must be a gift to have such a vivid imagination stevie

    Dharma Voyager: HAHAHHAHA

stevenaia Michinaga: @*!#loads, maybe 50 are "Guardians" the ones who sit here 4x a day to keep things flowing at our regular meetings

There are actually 46 Guardians at this time

    Solari Georgia: wow

    stevenaia Michinaga: http://playasbeing.wik.is/Informatio..._in_a_Nutshell

Dharma Voyager: wow 50 Guardians... that is really great

stevenaia Michinaga: we record our our sessions and post them like Dharma's study group

    Solari Georgia: copies URL

    stevenaia Michinaga: that ok?

Dharma Voyager: the core of reading group wanted to keep it private so I kept it private

Dharma Voyager: I mean making the group invitation only

stevenaia Michinaga: this is a walk-on kind of  place

stevenaia Michinaga: we take anyone, talk about anything

Dharma Voyager: I was good either way

Dharma Voyager: new people do bring new ideas and open it up a bit

stevenaia Michinaga: try to focus on seeing Being

Dharma Voyager: it was nice last night though.. I really enjoy nights like that

stevenaia Michinaga: the originator of this group was someone Dharma introduced me to

Solari Georgia: so this group is Taoist?

Dharma Voyager: Pema is quite the interesting person

Dharma Voyager: you should meet him... he is neat reallly

stevenaia Michinaga: no, non denominational, although it does attract Buddists

Solari Georgia: like the author? ; )

    Dharma Voyager: oh no

Dharma Voyager: Pema Chodron is a women

stevenaia Michinaga: what aprt of the world are you from Solari?

Dharma Voyager: Pema here is a man

    Solari Georgia: Canada originally..

Solari Georgia: upper Midwest US now

Dharma Voyager: when I met him I asked him if he had named himself after anything, and the naming is a coinsidence

stevenaia Michinaga: he works out of the Institute for Avanced Studies in Princeton, NJ

    Solari Georgia: ahhh, top shelf

stevenaia Michinaga: a funny gnome -like guy in person

stevenaia Michinaga: with a dutch accent

    Dharma Voyager: neat

    Solari Georgia: : )

Dharma Voyager: I don't remember if I ever heard his voice

stevenaia Michinaga: we had a meeting one weekend there in October, it was interesting...:)

Dharma Voyager: I think he found me in SL search... he said looking for three things

stevenaia Michinaga: yes, GO, Buddism and somethign else, possible SL Mentoring

Dharma Voyager: go (the game), Buddhism, and I think it was an SL mentor (which I was at the time) - I think those were the three things

    stevenaia Michinaga: lol

    Dharma Voyager: smiles

Dharma Voyager: weird Moss just paid me money

    Dharma Voyager: Moss

    stevenaia Michinaga: hmmm

Solari Georgia: did you win a contest in the arcade?

Solari Georgia: Steve you have a beach place in Etopia, yes?

    stevenaia Michinaga: no

stevenaia Michinaga: a friend gave me a place for a few months (and the rent) but otherwise I am homeless

    stevenaia Michinaga: happilly

    Solari Georgia: lol

Solari Georgia: just a bowl and 3 robes : )

stevenaia Michinaga: So he developed this 9 second excercise, take 9 seconds every 1/4 hour to look at things and shake thigns up, Dharma calls it mindfulness excersice

    Solari Georgia: sounds interesting

Dharma Voyager: sorry was haggling with Moss...

    Dharma Voyager: smiles

stevenaia Michinaga: then write down whatever comes to you, create a log, or in some cases a blog , some people even post it

    Solari Georgia: : )

stevenaia Michinaga: didnt; he give you enough?

Solari Georgia: sounds like structured journall keeping

stevenaia Michinaga: for some, some are more structured than others

Solari Georgia: structured in that it is at regular intervals

stevenaia Michinaga: well few are that regular

stevenaia Michinaga: I usually do it at these meetings

    Solari Georgia: I see

Dharma Voyager: hahah I gave him back the money

    Dharma Voyager: hahah

stevenaia Michinaga: I knew it wasn;t enough

Solari Georgia: : ) not enough zeros?

Meeting time arrives and Solobill Laville joins us

    stevenaia Michinaga: hi Solobill, welcome

    Dharma Voyager: hi there:)

    Solobill Laville: Hey, Steve, thanks

    Solobill Laville: ahhh :) nice

    stevenaia Michinaga: doing the introductions

Solobill Laville: I didn't know you could do away with the outer cushions...cozy

Solari Georgia: these are more comfortable cushions than Dharmas

Dharma Voyager: hahahah rub it in

    Dharma Voyager: laughs

    Solari Georgia: (kidding)

    stevenaia Michinaga: lol

    Dharma Voyager: hehehhee

    Solobill Laville: Hi, Pila

stevenaia Michinaga: nice to meet you, I've been reading your comments in the log

stevenaia Michinaga: Solari is new tonight, and Dharma introduced me to Pema a while back

    Solari Georgia: Hello Pila

Pila Mulligan: :) nice to see everyone

Dharma Voyager: hey stevie what are these numbers above our heads?

    Dharma Voyager: am I winning?

    Dharma Voyager: laughs

stevenaia Michinaga: so after the "hello's" we usually jsut wait to see what bubbles to the surface, a sneeze, cough,

stevenaia Michinaga: those are some sort of debuging thing for the auto recorder that will eventually post this directly to the wiki...someday

stevenaia Michinaga: I think they said it would start in september... heheh

Pila Mulligan, Susi Alcott, new guardians and  Corvuscorva Nightfire arrive

    Susi Alcott: ah hi cor

    stevenaia Michinaga: Hello Susi

    stevenaia Michinaga: hi cori

    Susi Alcott: Hello steve :)

Pila Mulligan: hi Corvi and Susi

Solobill Laville: I think I heard there some technical issues from the wiki site itself

As  people arrived I made the other cushions visible, forgetting that also covers the center pillows with the fountain. I then corrected this by turning off the fountain.

    Solobill Laville: Heya, Corvi

    Dharma Voyager: oh very cool

    Corvuscorva Nightfire: Hi all.

    Solobill Laville gets a soaker

Adelene Dawner and Threedee Shepherd arrives to a larger than usual crowd

    Pila Mulligan: hi Adelene

stevenaia Michinaga: oh @&!*% ,I  forgot about the fountain

    Adelene Dawner: wow. crowd.

    Solobill Laville: lol

Susi Alcott: hi Adelene, solo, Dharma, Pila and Three

Adelene Dawner: I think I'm going to skip this one - not up for a crowd, today.

stevenaia Michinaga: see you again Ade

    Corvuscorva Nightfire scritches Three's ear.

    Adelene Dawner: cya, all :)

Solobill Laville: ah, sorry to hear that Ade, you sure?

    Threedee Shepherd: hi all

    Solari Georgia: Hi Three

stevenaia Michinaga: Hi Three, been a while

Adelene Dawner: Fairly... eh, I can try, I guess.

    Solobill Laville: :)

    Solobill Laville: Feeling any better?

Dharma began morphing into a lion in the middle of the group....Magdalena Colclough joins us as well

stevenaia Michinaga: very cool Dharma, some things are best left to a phone booth...smile

Dharma Voyager: hahahah it's not pretty

Dharma Voyager: but the moon is full

    Dharma Voyager: hahahah

    Dharma Voyager: maybe

    Solari Georgia: looked painful even

stevenaia Michinaga: aww the lion's side

Corvuscorva Nightfire grins at the new Lion....

    Solobill Laville: Hi, Magdalena

    Magdalena Colclough: hi

    Solari Georgia: Hello

stevenaia Michinaga: quite the group , hi Maggie, so glad you can join us

    Susi Alcott: hi Solari

    Susi Alcott: hi Maggie

    Solari Georgia: Hi Susi

stevenaia Michinaga: I'm out of breath with all the welcomes tonight

stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps someone has a thought or question for the evening

    stevenaia Michinaga: (my evening)

Pila Mulligan begins with an interesting opening that leads to a more in depth conversation then i suspect he intended.

Pila Mulligan: is the fifth chakra too esoteric?

stevenaia Michinaga: only if yu tell us what it is

Solobill Laville: hmmm, I'd need to be edumacated...

Pila Mulligan: :) it is then :)

Threedee Shepherd: not if you explain it to us who don't know of it

stevenaia Michinaga: or start with the first one (chakra)

Pila Mulligan: it is one of those things that is difficult to explain without contradicting someone else :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: well, feel free

Pila Mulligan: chakras are eneregy centers

Pila Mulligan: in the body, the first is at the base of the spine

Pila Mulligan: they rooughly correspond to gangli

Pila Mulligan: the fifth is at the throat or neck

    Threedee Shepherd: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra

    Pila Mulligan: 2nd 3rd and 4th are arrayed n between --

Pila Mulligan: sixth is the third eye

Pila Mulligan: they have a place in yoag and many Hindu originated practices

    Pila Mulligan: yoga*

Solobill Laville: IN Zen there is the practice of focusing the mind in the Hara - just below the navel

Pila Mulligan: that would also be the tnatien and related ot hte seond chakra

    Pila Mulligan: tantien

stevenaia Michinaga: below behind or lower

Pila Mulligan: it is the point of completion of the breath cycle

    Pila Mulligan: lower

Susi Alcott: some ppl knowing that as Solar Plexus

Solobill Laville: It is a "center" in Zen, yes, I guess very similar to what Pila is suggesting

Susi Alcott: do you mean that to be the 5th ?

Pila Mulligan: Susni I think the solar plexus is above what Solo was referring to

    Susi Alcott: ah

Solobill Laville: Yes, this is more like just above the bladder

Susi Alcott: U mean the orange one ?

Solobill Laville: But it acts to unify mind and body

Pila Mulligan: in color, orange and yellow are often associated with that area

ThreeDee asks the question I was thinking

Threedee Shepherd: Being blunt, do you (Pila) accept the chakras as real or metaphorical?

    Pila Mulligan: yes :)

Pila Mulligan: they are real in the tradiitonal sense and in their relation to the ganglia

Pila Mulligan: they are also quite metaphorical

    Susi Alcott: same here

Susi Alcott: ...to breath through too....

Threedee Shepherd: There relation to the ganglia and to endocrine glands has been suggested, but the attributions given to the chakras are based in ?????

Susi Alcott: just that what comes to chakras; they can also be personal exitence's 'question'

Pila Mulligan: as far as I know they arise largely from Hindu-based traditions such as yoga and traditional medicine

    Threedee Shepherd: yes

Threedee Shepherd: Anyway, why was it you brought up the 5th chakra?

Pila Mulligan: I respect traditional knowledge even when it differs from science

Pila Mulligan: he fifth chakra is one of the most discussed in terms of ideas bu least concsitent in description

Threedee Shepherd: I accept all empirical knowledge that has pragmatic outcomes.

Pila Mulligan: so I was curious if it was a familiar thught here, to see where the descriptions m,ight lead

Susi Alcott: the most often I've heared it to be called is sexual chakra

Pila Mulligan: isn't that the second chakra?

Susi Alcott: that's the orange one; below Solar Plexus

Solobill Laville: It is interesting, but I could only listen in to that discussion, which is totally fine!

Susi Alcott: thought you ment that...that is you was shy to say that word

    Pila Mulligan: :)

    Susi Alcott: hm

stevenaia Michinaga: does knowing where or what these are translate into what to an individual?

Pila Mulligan: they relate to various theories of energy, as far as I know

Pila Mulligan: for practice and health

Threedee Shepherd: Wikipedia: Vishuddha: The Throat Chakra may be understood as relating to communication and growth through expression. This chakra is paralleled to the thyroid, a gland that is also in the throat and which produces thyroid hormone, responsible for growth and maturation. Symbolised by a lotus with sixteen petals. Vishudda is characterized by the color light or pale blue, or turquoise. It governs such issues as self-expression and communication, as discussed above. Physically, Vishuddha governs communication, emotionally it governs independence, mentally it governs fluent thought, and spiritually, it governs a sense of security

Susi Alcott: well; I have teached ppl to breath the chakra breath, and the practice has teached me to know more

    Susi Alcott: agree

Pila Mulligan: yes, it is related to sound in most descriptions, also

Susi Alcott: the most common 'other name' I've heared that chakra to be the 'creation chakra'

Pila Mulligan: I wonder if that relates to its proximity to the location of the ehtereal thread that supposedly binds the souold to the body?

Susi Alcott: meaning; it does effect to one's own creativity

    Pila Mulligan: ah, different then

    Pila Mulligan: soul*

Susi Alcott: meaning for example if one can easily find solutions

Solobill Laville: So, in a practical sense, what does one "do" with one's chakras?

Pila Mulligan: one theory is that one balances them, to obtain health and well being

Susi Alcott: agree with that too

Pila Mulligan: they cannot be pawned or eaten :)

Susi Alcott: one can also help them to be open by breathing

    Solobill Laville: How?

    stevenaia Michinaga: or seen?

Susi Alcott: they can be seen with open eyes to beyond

Pila Mulligan: well, the heart chakra can be seen most easily perhpas as it essentially is the heart

Susi Alcott: as well as aura as so

Pila Mulligan: breathing is perhaps there most vital relationship to an individual

Solobill Laville: mm hmm, as with meditation

    Pila Mulligan: yes

Susi Alcott: can compare to meditation; sure

Susi Alcott: well; there's many ways told how the chakras should be treated

Susi Alcott: so that sure is also personal

Pila Mulligan: I have also often wondered how much they relate to numerology traditions, but that is an extremely vague area

Susi Alcott: but what my RL has teached, there's again this 'rule', that the publick knowledge is only guidence

Corvuscorva Nightfire bows..I must go to rl.

Susi Alcott: and that one can make harm to an other also if manipulate them without following the reactions carefully

Solobill Laville: Can you explain that more Susi?

    Pila Mulligan: bye Corvi

    Solobill Laville: BYe, Corvi

    Susi Alcott: bye corvi

    Threedee Shepherd: bye corvi

Susi Alcott: like everything if one effects to an other person

Susi Alcott: to manipulate chakras is very effecting

Susi Alcott: and there's the most harm done often by them ppl who do see, but dont ask the reasons to that other person's state of chacras

Susi Alcott: so many just go and do without followign what happenes to the person in true

stevenaia Michinaga: do you, and Pila do yoga regularly?

    Pila Mulligan: asking Susi steve?

Susi Alcott: it's not so far to comopare the effect of manipulating the chakras to the knife of the curgery

    stevenaia Michinaga: both

Pila Mulligan: I do tai chi regularly

    Pila Mulligan: yoga some

Susi Alcott: I stopped that when I was 10 years old

Susi Alcott: yoga practicing I mean

Susi Alcott: cuz I sat on the floor and my pa didn't know what to do even I was 'asleep'

    Pila Mulligan: :)

Susi Alcott: I found out that yoga was not for me

    Solobill Laville: you passed out?

    Susi Alcott: nop

stevenaia Michinaga: so there are otherways to work with your chakras w/o yoga?

    Susi Alcott: yes

    Susi Alcott: healing and breathing

Pila Mulligan: breathing manily relate to the chakras as the breath energy --prana or chi --passes through them

    Susi Alcott: yes

Susi Alcott: the question is how much

Pila Mulligan: or ki, in Japan

Pila Mulligan: or ha in Hawaii :)

Susi Alcott: if you think that the sport ppl do breath differently based on there need

Pila Mulligan: any one know what alo+ha means

Pila Mulligan: alo = share ha =breath

Susi Alcott: does somebody know what maha means ?

    Pila Mulligan: great

    Solobill Laville: ahhh :) nice!

    Pila Mulligan: maha = great

    Susi Alcott: ty

Solobill Laville: that is what I thought

Pila Mulligan: yes Slo, sharing breath

Pila Mulligan: Maha = Great Atma = Soul Mahatma = Great Soul as in Gandhi

    Pila Mulligan: Mahatma Gandhi

Susi Alcott: ty Pila; that's what I felt when I read, but could't know

Susi Alcott: ah...maybe I dont want to know the whole sentece I was replied on one group list

Susi Alcott: the start was ma and the end was maha

Susi Alcott: that's all I feel that I can 'take'

    Susi Alcott: ty Pila

Pila Mulligan: well, it would be different in Hawaiian, maha is great in India

Susi Alcott: so you wanted to speak about the 5th chakra specially ?

Pila Mulligan: not particularly, it was just what occurred to me at the start

    Pila Mulligan: as an idea

    stevenaia Michinaga: ...smile

Susi Alcott: as that chakra means truely much to 'know' or not

    Pila Mulligan: yes

    Susi Alcott: ah

    Susi Alcott: well...how r U today Pila ?

    Pila Mulligan: fine thanks Susi

    Susi Alcott: good to hear

Pila Mulligan: the old body keeps on moving

Pila Mulligan: do you do yoga or a similar practice steve

stevenaia Michinaga: just for exercise for the past two years

Pila Mulligan: Solo meditates, but is yoga also part of your practice Solo

Solobill Laville: no, wish it was, I do Yoga Kids DVD with the kids about once a month! ;)

    Pila Mulligan: :)

stevenaia Michinaga: meditation is what I do at work, although at the end of yoga is similar

Pila Mulligan: meditation at work .. interesting

Solobill Laville: Oh, sure, i do PaB at work

Pila Mulligan: Dharma or Solari, are you yoga practitioners?

    Pila Mulligan: ah

    Pila Mulligan: :)

stevenaia Michinaga: let me rephrase, work is my meditation

    Pila Mulligan: I see :)

Solari Georgia: Tai Chi for me

    stevenaia Michinaga: I draw

    Pila Mulligan: nice

Solobill Laville: ahhh, yes Steve, that's a key difference for me

    Solobill Laville nods

stevenaia Michinaga: it empties and consumes the mind

    Susi Alcott: _/!\_

    Susi Alcott: creates freedom

    stevenaia Michinaga: creativity creates freedom

Susi Alcott: and Tai Chi do strengthen creativity

Pila Mulligan: Susi's healing arts involve something smilar to the same idea, probably

Susi Alcott: it's also more than good thing to practice

Susi Alcott: well...I'de say that healing can be doing nothing...in a way

Susi Alcott: depends on so many things

Susi Alcott: somebody else may say completely opposite

Pila Mulligan: for me the tai chi practice wakes up energy that would otherwise probbaly become stagnant

    Susi Alcott: yes

    Susi Alcott: and thats doing

Pila Mulligan: breathing coorindated with moving :)

    Susi Alcott: _/!\_

Susi Alcott: like swimming if it's done the right way

Susi Alcott: but swimming is more easy

Susi Alcott: so it's effect is not the same

Pila Mulligan: actually if you ever have a chnace to do tai chi in the ocean, near the shore break bt behind it, it is an eductaionin itself -- speak of gloing wiht the flow

    Susi Alcott: agree 130 %

Susi Alcott: could be 'my dream'

stevenaia Michinaga: was "gloing with the flow" a typo or a pun?

    Pila Mulligan: typo :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: :)

stevenaia Michinaga: glowing with the flow sounded good too

    Magdalena Colclough: not luminescent algae?

Pila Mulligan: glowing withthe algae -- nice image

Pila Mulligan: breath energy flows through the chakras in a circle, in some tai chi practice any way

Pila Mulligan: rising up the spine and then coming back down in front

Susi Alcott: agree with that too

Pila Mulligan: to the tantien, the place Slo mentioned earlier, just below the navel

Pila Mulligan: there it starts again, next circle

Pila Mulligan: inhale up, exhale down

    Susi Alcott: ah

Solari Georgia: TY for sharing your time, I need to go, bye all

Magdalena Colclough: like when you're able to create a complete circle with your body in the swan asana

Susi Alcott: occured to my mind that experience to be the pearl in the string

    Susi Alcott: ah

stevenaia Michinaga: interesting, I play a digerido, where the breathing is a continuous cycle

Susi Alcott: that's in a way to connect the first chakra with the planet and the crown chakra with the 'sky'

Susi Alcott: that's aslo one way to let the Universe to help

    Susi Alcott: also

    Susi Alcott: hm

Susi Alcott: maybe my 5th chakra is too open :)

Magdalena Colclough: there seems to be a typo pattern tonight

Magdalena Colclough: it's a kind of slo glo thing

    Susi Alcott: _/!\_

    Solobill Laville: :)

stevenaia Michinaga: well it;s been an hour, I would be happy to end the log now unless you wish to continue

Susi Alcott: as U feel good to do

    Pila Mulligan: whatevers :)

Solobill Laville: I'm heading of to bed, thanks for Chakras 101 Pila and Susi!!

    Magdalena Colclough: yes

    Susi Alcott: your welcome

Susi Alcott: and thank You Stevenaia

    Pila Mulligan: bye Solo

stevenaia Michinaga: this has been a very interesting coversation, thank you Pila for bringing it up

    Pila Mulligan: thank you

stevenaia Michinaga: Susi, congratualtion on your guardian acceptance

    Solobill Laville: Night, all!

Susi Alcott: yes Pila thank you for my beahalf too

Susi Alcott: ty my friend to help me to decide this

    Pila Mulligan: :)

    Magdalena Colclough: 'night everyone

    stevenaia Michinaga: night Maggie

    Susi Alcott: good night Magdalena

    Pila Mulligan: bye Magdalena :)

    Magdalena Colclough: glo slo

Susi Alcott: I have not heared the bell during this meeting

stevenaia Michinaga: thanks for comming Dharma, always appriciate your company..smile

Dharma Voyager: well it was a busy night

Dharma Voyager: in my chat window

Dharma Voyager: sounds like I missed a good one

Dharma Voyager: I'm going to copy it to my editor and read it

stevenaia Michinaga: it'll be posted later

Pila Mulligan: you know, I was seeing Dharma's avi name floating over Magdalena and did not realize until the end that Dharma was on the ground beside her :)

    Susi Alcott: ah

Pila Mulligan: now Is see Dharma as lion on the floor

    Dharma Voyager: hehehehe

Susi Alcott: Dharma was so noice today

    Susi Alcott: :)

Dharma Voyager: Am I usually mean

    Dharma Voyager: hahahah

Dharma Voyager: careful I'll eat you!

    Dharma Voyager: hehehhe
