The Guardian for this meeting was Quilty.  Fael dug up the chat log from the autorecorder, and Pema posted it and added a title.

    Quilty Bookmite: Hi Solobill
    Quilty Bookmite: Hi Wol
    Solobill Laville: Hiya, Quilty
    Wol Euler: helo solo, quilty.
    Solobill Laville: Heya, Wol
Quilty Bookmite: Like the hairstyle Wol. What language is that?
Wol Euler: japanese. I keep forgetting to detach the simbolic translator
    Quilty Bookmite: :-)
    Wol Euler: and thank you!
Quilty Bookmite: I missed the celebrations on Monday. Did either of you go?
    Wol Euler: both times )
Solobill Laville: No, couldn't make it
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: the first, wrong, celebration was by far the most exuberant.
Quilty Bookmite: I was just too tired.
Quilty Bookmite: Ah. I was at that one. :-)
Wol Euler: the second was quite restrained, only a half-dozen or so
Solobill Laville: I think we were all at the first one
    Solobill Laville: ?
Quilty Bookmite: That's a shame. Such a major landmark ought to be marked with some debauchery.
    Wol Euler: indeed
    Quilty Bookmite: Yes. :-)
    Solobill Laville: That's the spirit!!
    Wol Euler: hello pila
    Quilty Bookmite: Hi Pila.
    Pila Mulligan: greetings
    Solobill Laville: Hi, Pila
Quilty Bookmite: I was just reflecting on the fact that there don't seem to be many empty sessions these days.
Quilty Bookmite: When I first joined there were many.
Pila Mulligan: the seedling has become established :)
Quilty Bookmite: Indeed and it seems like you have been here ages Pila. :-)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Wol Euler smiles
Pila Mulligan: well, Quilty, you were the first person I met her, those ages ago
    Pila Mulligan: here*
Quilty Bookmite: Yes, so many years back. :-)
Solobill Laville: Must've made a good impression... ;)
Quilty Bookmite: When I first joined there seemed to be so many more experienced people. Now I am called an old hand. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: Although I still feel like a newcomer.
Wol Euler: it's all relative :)
Pila Mulligan: I need to learn how to operate this place so I canserve as a stand-in for slots when peo;le cannot make it
Quilty Bookmite: Yes, and 1000 sessions is still less than a year.
Pila Mulligan: guradins that is, standing in for guardans
    Pila Mulligan: hello Tanya
Quilty Bookmite: I think there is a guide on the PaB websire.
    Quilty Bookmite: Hi Tanya.
    Pila Mulligan: hello Juan
    Tanya Miami: hi
    Quilty Bookmite: Hi Juan.
    Juan Violet: umm.. hi
Wol Euler: yes, there is a posting tutorial/guide page
Tanya Miami: im new at this
Pila Mulligan: read the manual, you say :)
    Juan Violet: im new here
    Wol Euler: actually, yes :)
Wol Euler: I mean, I could read it to you ...
    Wol Euler: hello Juan, welcome
Quilty Bookmite: Two newborns at the same time. :-)
    Wol Euler: tanya, hello
Pila Mulligan: Wol is such a good SL mentor
    Tanya Miami: hi
    Juan Violet: hi
Quilty Bookmite: I guess it will be easier if we do the introductions in public.
    Wol Euler grins
    Wol Euler: fire away
Wol Euler: I'll hand out the notecards, you type
Juan Violet: what should i do??
Quilty Bookmite: Tanya, Juan, welcome to the PaB chat. You are welcome to come and sit and join us or if you want to go we won't be too upset. :-)
Wol Euler: that notecard explains who we are and what we do here.
Quilty Bookmite: If you want to sit with us, just right click on a cushion and select sit.
    Quilty Bookmite: Thanks Wol.
    Juan Violet: yup!!
    Tanya Miami: Juan come sit
Quilty Bookmite: Briefly, we are a group that discuss the nature of reality and experiment with perception.
    Tanya Miami: right click Juan
Quilty Bookmite: But we discuss all manner of things. :-)
    Wol Euler: there :)
    Tanya Miami: :)
    Juan Violet: hi guys..
Wol Euler: welcome to second life.
    Tanya Miami: thanks
    Pila Mulligan: yes, hi
    Solobill Laville: hello!1
    Tanya Miami: Hi
Quilty Bookmite: Before we start, I should just say that these chats are recorded on a website. If you don;t want your words to be recorded please let me know.
    Juan Violet: 1st guys..
    Tanya Miami: okay
Juan Violet: is there any job around here?
Quilty Bookmite: What sort of job are you looking for?
Tanya Miami: I need one aswell
Tanya Miami: in real life im an interior decorator
Quilty Bookmite: You've only just arrived. :-)
Pila Mulligan: you mean a way to earn SL currency, Lindens?
Solobill Laville thinks maybe we could hire greeters....hmmmm....
    Juan Violet: just simple job
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Juan Violet: so i can make some money
Wol Euler: do you have a paypal account?
    Tanya Miami: yes
Quilty Bookmite: Well, it does get a bit dusty round here. Maybe I can find a brush. :-)
Wol Euler: then you can just buy L$ from it.
Wol Euler: avoids the whole messy business :)
    Juan Violet: hmm..hmm..
Tanya Miami: how long how you gys been playing?
Wol Euler: a year tomorrow :)
Quilty Bookmite: Indeed. Otherwise there are places that give you Lindens for hanging around. Takes ages to earn much money though.
    Tanya Miami: guys**
    Solobill Laville: Wow, Wol!
    Juan Violet: um.. not yet..
    Pila Mulligan: about two years
    Quilty Bookmite: Ooh! Birthday celebration!
    Wol Euler: indeed.
Solobill Laville: I am about 3 weeks away from 1 year
    Juan Violet: wow!!!
    Quilty Bookmite: 7 minths.
Quilty Bookmite: Which is very like 7 months.
    Solobill Laville: hehe
Pila Mulligan: ... and I have yet to learn how to do anything except sit on a cushion :)
Wol Euler: but has a minty flavour
    Quilty Bookmite: Mmmmmm.
    Solobill Laville: fresh
    Quilty Bookmite: :-)
    Quilty Bookmite: Tangy.
Quilty Bookmite: Anyway, I haven't heard of PaB giving out money.
    Juan Violet: wow.. thanks Quilty
Quilty Bookmite: But since I was a newby myself once, this may help you get started.
Pila Mulligan: PaB = Play as Being, the name of this place, by the way
Quilty Bookmite: I said I would do that one day Wol. :-)
    Pila Mulligan: a philanthropist
    Wol Euler: well done, Quilty.
Quilty Bookmite: Well, Lindens are not expensive.
Quilty Bookmite: Where are you both from?
    Juan Violet: im from malaysia..
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Solobill Laville: Wow, that is a first!
    Juan Violet: is it???
Quilty Bookmite: Excellent. Yes, I've not heard of another Malaysian in PaB.
Quilty Bookmite: We have a Korean I think. Most are from Europe and USA.
    Tanya Miami: this is complicated
    Quilty Bookmite: You OK Tanya?
    Juan Violet: well..
    Wol Euler: mmhmm :)
Wol Euler: there is a lot to learn,
Tanya Miami: yes my computer kinda sucks is all
Juan Violet: anyway.. come visit malaysia
Wol Euler: but hte learning is fun too.
Quilty Bookmite: Take your time. SL can be a bit overwhelming.
Solobill Laville: I'd love to visit Malaysia
Quilty Bookmite: Ah yes. That can be a problem too. :-)
    Pila Mulligan: there :)
Quilty Bookmite: Second Life eats computers. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: Still, you seem to be doing well.
Quilty Bookmite: OK, I think we have done most of the introductions. Does anyone have a particular subject to discuss?
Wol Euler: there is a kind of introduction guide in the Help menu, which tells you the basics of getting along in SL?
Juan Violet: whats happen to tanya??
    Quilty Bookmite: Probably computer problems.
Wol Euler: she keeps crashing out, her computer is losing hte connection to SL.
Wol Euler: if she comes back, we can try to fine-tune her settings a little to reduce that
Pila Mulligan: I have that problems sometimes too -- not enough resources to run everything sometimes
    Wol Euler nods.
Quilty Bookmite: I would have offered but I don't remember what I did to fix mine.
Pila Mulligan: oh, good, another turorial from Wol :)
Juan Violet: guys, how 2 use the teleport??
Wol Euler: I'll explain that in IM so that we dont disturb the group
Quilty Bookmite: OK, I guess it's just the 3 of us at the moment and I'm lacking inspiration.
Quilty Bookmite: My brain is starting to shut down for the Christmas holidays. :-)
Pila Mulligan: ah, 2009 -- how time flies
Quilty Bookmite: Yes. It doesn;t seem so long ago we were panicking about the millenium bug. :-)
Pila Mulligan: rl phone call -- brb
    Quilty Bookmite: OK.
Quilty Bookmite: And then there were 2. :-)
Solobill Laville: Did you set a date for a talk with Gaya?
Quilty Bookmite: Not yet. I need to wait until she gets back from retreat.
Quilty Bookmite: I wonder if she will come back fired with enthusiasm for Buddhism or with more doubts. :-)
Solobill Laville: maybe a bit of both, which would be good
Quilty Bookmite: Yes. I don;t think it's ever a good idea to get complacent with Buddhism. :-)
Solobill Laville: Yep, it is a methodology like other things are as well
Quilty Bookmite: I'm slightly jealous though. I haven't been on a retreat for about 2 years.
    Solobill Laville: Ooh, maybe time?
Quilty Bookmite: The opportunity is lacking or I would. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: One child to look after and a heavily pregnant wife. :-)
Solobill Laville: I understand that, just a few years ahead of you in that path perhaps (6 and 4 years old)
    Quilty Bookmite: Excellent. :-)
Solobill Laville: and wife NOT heavily pregnant!!
Quilty Bookmite: Well, I decided 2 is enough. :-)
    Quilty Bookmite: WE decided. :-)
Solobill Laville: oh, yes, me too, "2 and out"
Solobill Laville thinks it was me who decided, she would probably have had 3
Quilty Bookmite: I might try and do a retreat at home. Should be an interesting experiment.
Quilty Bookmite: Time is against us anyway. We're both getting too old.
Solobill Laville: I think it would be a great experiment!
    Solobill Laville: Ah, for 3?
    Quilty Bookmite: Yes.
    Solobill Laville nods
Wol Euler looks up and smiles. Paira youngsters like you ...
Quilty Bookmite: I have heard of others in my tradition doing a home retreat.
    Solobill Laville wipes his nose
    Quilty Bookmite: Yeah right. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: I should have had children when I was much younger. They wear me out.
Quilty Bookmite: And my daughter is learning to run now. :-(
Solobill Laville: Yes, that will be an interesting experiment ;)
Quilty Bookmite: The running or the home retreat? :-)
    Wol Euler chuckles
Solobill Laville: The retreat because of the running!
    Solobill Laville: :)
Quilty Bookmite: Yes. I will have to catch her mindfully. :-)
    Solobill Laville: hehe
Quilty Bookmite: There's a storm in the air. :-)
    Quilty Bookmite: Hi Storm.
Solobill Laville: But that mindfullness does open me up for kind of...letting the joy run through me...when I am with my kids, sometimes ;)
    Storm Nordwind: Hi guys
    Wol Euler: hello storm
    Solobill Laville: Heya, Storm
Quilty Bookmite: Yes, I know what you mean Solo.
    Pila Mulligan: hi Storm
Solobill Laville: Like not making a barrier exist
    Quilty Bookmite: WB Pila.
    Pila Mulligan: thanks Q
Juan Violet: guys.. i need 2 go now.. see you later..
Quilty Bookmite: It would be nice to be more mindful with my daughter anyway.
Wol Euler: bye juan, take care
Solobill Laville: See you Juan, have fun in SL
    Quilty Bookmite: Bye Juan.
    Pila Mulligan: bye Juan
    Juan Violet: tata..
Quilty Bookmite: Storm, we were discussing the possibility of having a home retreat because I haven't been able to go on retreat for the last 2 years.
Storm Nordwind: What defines a home retreat for you?
Quilty Bookmite: Well, I haven't thought too much about it, but I guess I would need some sort of structure. Maybe a schedule but it would have to be flexible.
Quilty Bookmite: Retreats normally consist of meditation and acting mindfully.
Storm Nordwind: Yes indeed. They also need uninterrupted space and sponsored time (even if by oneself)
Quilty Bookmite: I'm not sure the uninterrupted would be possible in my case. :-)
Storm Nordwind: That was my thought!
Solobill Laville: I love the idea though, Quilty
    Storm Nordwind nods
Quilty Bookmite: Yes. Small children don't really understand these concepts. :-)
    Storm Nordwind: Quite so!
Solobill Laville: My kids love to say "zafu"!
Quilty Bookmite: If I can stay mindful it may not matter so much though.
    Wol Euler: heheheh
Quilty Bookmite: Zafu is a great word. :-)
Storm Nordwind: Is attending a retreat centre out of the question?
Quilty Bookmite: It may be possible but not at the moment. My wife is heavily pregnant.
Storm Nordwind: That's a priority... probaby for a significant while
Solobill Laville nods and nods again
Quilty Bookmite: Yes. :-) I'm not going anywhere for the next few months. :-)
Storm Nordwind notices he said probaby instead of probably!
    Solobill Laville: ha!
Storm Nordwind: My fingers were guided perhaps!
Quilty Bookmite: I didn't notice. :-) Small laptop keyboard.
Quilty Bookmite: Ah. It wasn't me this time. :-)
Storm Nordwind: I remember when I learnt to meditate - in 1973
Storm Nordwind: I was a student...
Storm Nordwind: and I had a vacation job in a carpet factory...
Storm Nordwind: I used to climb to the top of the warehouse amongst the carpet and practise there every day
Storm Nordwind: Perhpas it's a case of finding the time at the moment in what you already have
Quilty Bookmite: That actually sounds pretty good!
Solobill Laville: I hope the foreman never cought you!
    Solobill Laville: *a
Storm Nordwind: Walking meditation - to the train, the shops etc - might be a good option at the moment
Storm Nordwind: I was regarded - then as now - as a freak Solo!
Quilty Bookmite: Ah. I do that sometimes.
Solobill Laville: Do you get time to sit in the morning or evening, Quilty?
Quilty Bookmite: Sometimes in the evening.
    Solobill Laville: hehe, Storm
    Solobill Laville: .me nods
Quilty Bookmite: I walk round the lake at work during lunch time.
    Solobill Laville: oh, nice!
    Storm Nordwind: fabulous
Quilty Bookmite: Nothing wrong with being a freak. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: I always have been.
    Storm Nordwind smiles and nods
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Solobill Laville: Everyone is a freak, some just realize it
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
Quilty Bookmite: Good point Solo. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: As I get older I just become a more sensible freak.
Quilty Bookmite: Pila you are quiet tonight. Still on the phone?
    Solobill Laville: "The Well-Tempered Freak"
Pila Mulligan: no, just contemplating the chat as it happens :)
Storm Nordwind reaches for his fretboard
Quilty Bookmite: OK. I'm not putting you on the spot. :-)
    Quilty Bookmite: Fretboard?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Storm Nordwind: Yes - a guitar. It has to have well-tempered musical intervals on it, else it would not work :)
    Quilty Bookmite: Ah. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: My knowledge of guitar playing is sadly lacking. I tried to learn once on a cheap guitar but overtightened it and bent it out of shape. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: I think it ended up badly tempered and I don't blame it. :-)
    Wol Euler: heheh
Storm Nordwind: That was the problem of the guitar probably, not you. I hope it not make you lose your 'temper'!
Storm Nordwind should read before he finishes typing!
Quilty Bookmite: No, my temper is still there but the guitar, sadly, isn't.
Storm Nordwind: Well you can come and get mine if you like. I shall probably not take them all with me to the US
Quilty Bookmite: Maybe I should do a guitar practicing retreat. :-)
Wol Euler notes the "all" and nods thoughtfully
Quilty Bookmite: Thanks for the offer Storm. I hope you get to take at least one.
Pila Mulligan: Quilty, I have to watch my tongue some times, having learned it doesn't really help to tell someone in a blizzard about the weather Hawai`i, but (disregarding that caution) I was thinking along similar terms about the ordinary environment here, and how naturally conducive it is to contemplation -- like how you describe going to a park or walking around a lake
    Storm Nordwind: Thank you Quilty
Quilty Bookmite: Yes, I noticed that. :-) An enthusiast.
Quilty Bookmite: Indeed Pila. The problem with SL is that I'm not really here. :-)
Pila Mulligan: I guess the point is that being able to relate to nature really helps your state of mind
Pila Mulligan: ahh, here was referring to hawai`i
    Pila Mulligan: real nature :)
Quilty Bookmite: Ah. I see. :-)
Quilty Bookmite: Well, I'm not jealous of you being in Hawaii. :-)
    Wol Euler: absolutely not.
Quilty Bookmite: Even though it is getting very cold here. :-)
Wol Euler: nay, quilty: Because it is getting cold here!
    Pila Mulligan: thank you
    Wol Euler loves winter.
Quilty Bookmite: I'm an autumn and spring person myself.
Pila Mulligan: and snow is indeed equally conducive to contemplation -- if yo can be warm enough
Quilty Bookmite: And I do love those seasons in the UK.
Storm Nordwind: There is plenty of snow at the Kira Cafe at the moment!
Quilty Bookmite: Some of the best meditaiton sessions I have had have been sitting next to water.
Pila Mulligan: ah, Christmas decor Storm ?
Quilty Bookmite: I should take a ook some time.
Quilty Bookmite: But not tonight as it's my bedtime and my coach is about to turn into a pumpkin.
Storm Nordwind: Winter decor rather than Christmas, in a neutral spot (rather than here)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Quilty Bookmite: There's probably some hidden meaning in that statement but I'm not sure what it is. :-)
    Storm Nordwind laughs gently!
Quilty Bookmite: Anyway, it's been lovely as always. Goodnight all.
    Storm Nordwind: Bye Quilty
    Pila Mulligan: bye Quilty
Wol Euler: goodnight quilty, take are
    Solobill Laville: BYe, Quilty
    Wol Euler: *care
Solobill Laville: Yes, and I need to be off as well, folks
    Pila Mulligan: bye Solo
Wol Euler: ah, bye solo. take care
    Storm Nordwind: OK Solo. bfn!
    Pila Mulligan: bfn?
Storm Nordwind: Bye For Now :)
    Pila Mulligan: thanks
Pila Mulligan: one of the first thinks I notice when coming from a very quiet natural place to a more busy community of people place is the sound of cars
Wol Euler: mmhmm, ever-present. I get that returning from Venice.
Storm Nordwind: The first thing I notice is people arguing!
Wol Euler: it's astonishing and somehow saddening how quickly one gets used to the aural assault of cities.
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: indeeed
Wol Euler: why do we not revolt?
Storm Nordwind: I think we are doing. It is a gentle revolution and it will take a few generations
    Pila Mulligan: against whom?
    Wol Euler: car-ism
    Wol Euler: primarily...
Pila Mulligan: ok, yes, I can do that :)
    Pila Mulligan: and televisions-ism
Storm Nordwind revolted against TV-ism 12 years ago
    Wol Euler: snap
Pila Mulligan: 30 years ago here
Wol Euler: (well, probably not twelve. quite a few though)
Pila Mulligan: it is a horrible influence on the human environment
Storm Nordwind: via the human psyche
    Pila Mulligan: yep
    Pila Mulligan: noise
    Pila Mulligan: and glare
Storm Nordwind: I think I will just take a balloon to the Cafe before I sign off for the night. Please excuse me
    Wol Euler: "light pollution"
    Wol Euler: goodnight storm.
    Pila Mulligan: ok, bye Storm
    Storm Nordwind: Namaste
Wol Euler chuckles. Love htem skates
Pila Mulligan: yes, they are cool
Pila Mulligan: well, my next thing to do this early afternoon is to call an old freind and wish her a happy 86th birthday -- she is still a vigorous hiker
    Wol Euler: ah!
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Wol Euler: excellent.
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Wol Euler: I met a woman like that on the Camino de Santiago a few years ago
Wol Euler: she was looking to buy a new car because it was getting to hard for her to lift her canoe onto the roof rack.
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Wol Euler: she was only 81 though
Pila Mulligan: I like change the car for the canoe's sake
Wol Euler: mmhmm, she has her priorities right.
Pila Mulligan: my freind was a secretary for an army officer near Peal Harbor on Dec 7, 1941 -- the day it was attacked
    Wol Euler: wow
Wol Euler: oh right, hawaii! of course.
Pila Mulligan: it was early Sunday morning, so they were at their homes, but he came to her house and they drove to wrk together during the attack
Pila Mulligan: and spent the day dealing with it
    Wol Euler nods
Pila Mulligan: people hardly even think about it today, it seems
    Wol Euler: mmhmm
Pila Mulligan: it my math is right she would have been 19 then
Wol Euler: I was just working that out too :)
Pila Mulligan: 19 years old, that is
Pila Mulligan: her family was a freind of the officer, so it was not regular civil service
Wol Euler: your face and head remind me of a marble bust of ... oh who was it?
    Pila Mulligan: santa claus?
Wol Euler: greek philosopher, famously bald, died when a eagle dropped a turtle on his head
    Wol Euler: socrates?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Wol Euler: anyway. it's gone :)
Pila Mulligan: well, Socrates deid from drinking the hemlock -- execution stly
Wol Euler: right, so it can't be him.
Wol Euler: but it was someone like that, an arguer and haranguer in the marketplace
Pila Mulligan: that's Pila in rl on the right
Pila Mulligan: not quite Socrates :)
Wol Euler wits for rezzing .........
    Wol Euler: heheheheh
Wol Euler: a fine bunch of reprobates.
    Pila Mulligan: ihndeed
    Wol Euler: when was this?
Pila Mulligan: I think July -- we had just dont the wall then
Pila Mulligan: abou 5 or 6 months ago
    Wol Euler: wow
    Wol Euler: which are you?
    Wol Euler: *is
Pila Mulligan: on the right -- white hair
Wol Euler frowns. I thought you said Pema was on the right?
    Pila Mulligan: nope Pila :)
    Wol Euler: ooooooh
    Wol Euler: misheard!
Wol Euler: I thought you said "piet" -> pema
Pila Mulligan: I hav enot yet met Pema/Piet in rl :)
Wol Euler: quite a fair match then between av and rl :)
Pila Mulligan: yes, I tried -- SL doe sont let me get enough hair though
Wol Euler: um, you need prim hair.
Pila Mulligan: I am all ears :)
Wol Euler: I could give you a few landmarks of hair shops to try...
    Wol Euler: hi tarmel
Pila Mulligan: well, thanks Wol, it wold be fun to see -- but I have gotten used to tihs avi and may not change it :)
    Tarmel Udimo: hi folks
    Pila Mulligan: hi Tarmel
Wol Euler: sure, no pressure :)
Wol Euler: but chekc out the options.
Tarmel Udimo: is there a talk happening in the cafe?
    Pila Mulligan: I will, thanks
Wol Euler: don't _think_ so ...
Tarmel Udimo: storm talking about rebuilding cafe
    Wol Euler: oh!
    Wol Euler: damn his modesty.
    Wol Euler: let's go.
    Tarmel Udimo: coming pila
    Wol Euler: coming pila?
    Pila Mulligan: ok
    Pila Mulligan: laggy :)
