The phrase from the Sandokai 'Do not set up your own standards' has been with me today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandokai
I do it very often. 'they shouldn't do that' 'it shouldn't be this way..' They will act the way they act and it will be whatever way it happens.
Attain the center of emptiness,
Preserve the utmost quiet;
As myriad things act in concert
I thereby observe the return.
Things flourish,
Then each returns to its root.
Returning to the root
Is called stillness:
Stillness is called return to Life,
Return to Life is called the constant;
Knowing the constant is called enlightenment.
- Tao-te Ching
Meditation at Zen Retreat tonight... happened upon a timely dedication for this week's theme of Stillness
"To be attached to things is illusion; to encounter the absolute is not yet enlightenment."
(also from the Sandokai)
Eliza's quote reminds me of I Ching hexagram #24 ~ Return (The Turning Point)
Return. Success.
Going out and coming in without error.
Friends come without blame.
To and fro goes the way.
On the seventh day comes return.
It furthers one to have somewhere to go.
This evening, karuna-metta meditation. And I added a hint to the notecard there in case people ever have problems with the voice!
