I tend to think of science as a hard measurement-based discipline like physics, but with the emergence of multidisciplinary sciences like computational cognitive neuroscience the boundaries aren't so clear. In that light, meditation could be regarded as a science: investigating our brains from the inside. I remember reading somewhere that artists are brain scientists because we create illusions in peoples' brains. :)

in this morning's light PaB session, we talked about Storm's "Mr Happy" video...

[07:31] Storm Nordwind: How about this as a worthwhile experiment? Try to be happy for a whole day. Or if that's too much, just for the morning. Or even for an hour. Or just for five minutes.

[07:33] Xirana Oximoxi: I've seen the video on Youtube you've sent Storm! wonderful...that's it...just change our minds for a while and try to be happy or wish a happy day to otheres! very nice

[07:37] Eliza Madrigal: wondering about the correlation between ease of saying I love you and happiness... just thinking of Mr Happy :)

[07:36] Riddle Sideways: singing "I Love You" with the radio is easy. Singing it on stage is a little harder :}

[07:53] Yakuzza Lethecus: an 88 years old person who does that on the corner and creates trust that there is no selfish gain just the shared gain of collectively increase of happyness

So, this day I have been "trying to be happy" ... and can report two things: 1) Saying "I love you" does increase happiness, and 2) In 'trying' to be happy, I tended to gravitate toward grounding activities... became inward and thoughtful. If I remember correctly, when we talked about happiness before, and for Art of Being, there was a similar effect. Hm. edited 00:57, 4 Jul 2012

@ Zen...
* Storm Nordwind: Science is only a process, nothing more. If you apply that process to exploration, then you're performing science.
* Storm Nordwind: Part of Pema's intent was to explore whether such a process could indeed be applied to PaB. So it was research about the method.
* Eos Amaterasu: But I think it may be true that relatively little "lab" type exploration happens
* boxy (alfred.kelberry): there's only awareness in pab's exploration. pema confirmed it himself. you can not put these observations down and share in a consistent way.
* Eos Amaterasu: the logs do leave notes from many many sessions, though
* Storm Nordwind: Part of any scientific process is the struggle to find terminology and notation.

Karuna-metta meditation this morning before the session Eliza quotes from.

@ Eliza...
Wow, well done for acting on the suggestion! As always, you are an inspiration. (((Eliza)))
OK, I shall eat my own dog-food... ;)
