What to do? I don't know. It's all a vast inexplicable happening before thought and concepts. No enlightenment, even, no one to be enlightened, the word just points to a state we all have but cover up with layers of labels and concepts, I think. Perhaps a seeing takes place, but of its own accord, in its own time. Reading a book Bruce recommends 'The Digitally Divided Self'. The author claims that computer technology reinforces a dualist separation into external objective entertainment:
'Not knowing that every authentic quality can be found again in our depths, the search for compensation typically is directed to external tools. For historical and religious reasons, the need to extend our possibilities through technology originates from the need to recover parts of ourself that were lost along the path of life, a return to the wholeness of our original state.'

That's interesting. But you know (and speaking as a Buddhist here), my seeing through apparent dualism to a lack of dualism doesn't help me! So what? ... I can experience a state of nonduality ... but it has never brought me happiness. Nor has it helped me to put compassion into action.
I can see things as divided or not. The experiences are different, for sure. But staying in the experience of nonduality is not a useful thing.
Duality isn't as bad as it's cracked up to be. It's being attached to that perception of duality as somehow "real" that's the bad thing. As is all attachment. edited 02:37, 14 Jul 2012
