That evening, I found Adams in the pavilion when I entered.
Adams Rubble: Hi Pema :)
Pema Pera: Hi Adams!
Adams Rubble: My new PaB outfit :)
Pema Pera: Nice! You look demure — is that the right English adiective?
Adams Rubble: The latest in fashion
Pema Pera: or perhaps better rustic?
Pema Pera: ah!
Adams Rubble: :)
Adams Rubble: Hello Doug
Pema Pera: ready to go to the market
Pema Pera: hi Doug!
doug Sosa: hi..
Adams Rubble: Hello Fred
Pema Pera: Did you just buy the new outfit, Adams?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: hey everyone
Pema Pera: Hi Fred!
Doug and Fred joined us.
Adams Rubble: At the PaB market :)
Pema Pera: ?
Adams Rubble: No I made it
Pema Pera: hehehe
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: very nice!
Pema Pera: wow, you made it yourself?!?
Adams Rubble: Look closer
Adams Rubble: from leftover cushion material
Pema Pera: ah!
Adams Rubble: The hat and skirt are just textured
Pema Pera: Well, you can now start a PaB market then!
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: just make sure nobody sits on you!
Adams Rubble: :)
Pema Pera: Is there anything anyone would like to report, about PaB explorations?
doug Sosa: mine today were in the middle of actual one on one converstions of great intesity.
doug Sosa: i found myself noticing the lack of eye contact of the other.
doug Sosa: even if I “let go” i could not not notice.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i have managed to PaB discrtely during mettings, but not in a one-on-one conversation
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: (in person)
Pema Pera: At first, at least, it seems a lot easier when you are either by yourself or in a largish meeting
Pema Pera: What happened, Doug, how did it feel?
Pema Pera: wb, Adams!
doug Sosa: “feel” feels strange in that context. it was more a noticing, perhaps wondering where the peson was. maybe it is shocking to be that aware of another and feeling is not part of it.
Pema Pera: Hi Steve!
stevenaia Michinaga: hello, I don;t seee Adams, am I sitting on her?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: to your right
doug Sosa: she is behind you on your right.
Steve arrived, and spent some time rezzing.
Pema Pera: Perhaps PaB invites us to apply a kind of opening that we normally don’t enter in a one-on-one conversation?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: blind spot!
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: an opening in the conversation ? to introduce/explain the behavior?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: or to just reflect on what’s going on?
doug Sosa: opening to walk into the experience?
doug Sosa: One talked about conversation as jazz, but he kept talking, violating his own description. i found myself nine seconded and just noticed my choice beween pointing it out or letting it go.
Pema Pera: an opening in the flow perhaps, in the undercurrent, the pull of the flow of the conversation?
doug Sosa: actually an opening in the flow itself to a palce without flow but not at all staic.
Pema Pera: going along with the dance and tuning in is obviously a good thing to do, but being bound by it may be too much — yet something we all tend to do, I think
Pema Pera: ah, that is very interesting, Doug
Pema Pera: so in a sense beyond the dynamic of the flow and the static of no-flow?
doug Sosa: it didn’t feel beyond, it felt just present.
Pema Pera: wb again Adams!
Pema Pera: but you said an opening in the flow?
Pema Pera: or still in the flow?
Adams Rubble: whew!
doug Sosa: yes, like a river opening and seeing inside.
Like several others in earlier sessions, Steve and Doug found the chimes a bit too much of a good thing.
stevenaia Michinaga: are those wind chimes new? rather distracting
Pema Pera: Adams is exploring many openings in presence :)
doug Sosa: adams where are you?
Adams Rubble: I am between Steve and Pema
Pema Pera: you can change the level and types of the wind chimes, Steve
doug Sosa: i agree about the chimes, too regular, and there is no breeze outside.
Pema Pera: Yes, many people seem to find them distracting, and lower the level of sound
Pema Pera: but mostly I have my sound muted, so I’ll leave it to you all to regulate
doug Sosa: but don’t we usually have birds?
Pema Pera: (I’m often working in office or coffee shop)
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: tweet tweet. i hear birds.
Pema Pera: you can click on the chimes, Steve
Pema Pera: in front of you above
doug Sosa: yes, but nearly drowned out by the chimes. maybe the chimes are in the pattern of the music is ones typing.
Pema Pera: wb Steve :)
doug Sosa: I see adams name but not her.
Pema Pera: a day of coming and going and Fred is still floating above his cushion and sounds everywhere . . . .
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks
Pema Pera: Hi Neela!
Adams Rubble: Hello Neela
Windchime Bronze 12: Adams Rubble picked the option ‘Sounds’.
Neela Blaisdale: Hi Pema Hieveryone, sorry I’m late
Windchime Bronze 12: Adams Rubble picked the option ‘Volume’.
Windchime Bronze 12: Adams Rubble picked the option ‘20%’.
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks Adams
I had to leave, but before doing so I started to fish for log keepers.
Pema Pera: Actually, I have to leave pretty soon — in the middle of my work day in my office in Tokyo here, my next to last day here.
Pema Pera: Can someone else take care of the chat log?
stevenaia Michinaga: not if I keep crashing
Pema Pera: :)
Pema Pera: perhaps we need two volunteers
Pema Pera: as long as they don’t pair crash :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: Fred looks stable
Neela Blaisdale: :)
doug Sosa: i can’t tonight i am off to a dinner in a minute.
Pema Pera: floating above it all
Adams Rubble: I am unstable tonight :)
Pema Pera: Well, Steve, you can just send me whatever you many to catch
Pema Pera: gaps and all :>)
stevenaia Michinaga: I will then, let you piece it together
stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Adams Rubble: Maybe I can supplement if I can
Pema Pera: sure
Pema Pera: that would be best, Adams and Steve
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: totally zoning out.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: yes, i have logs
Pema Pera: I don’t mind getting too much info
Adams Rubble: Yea Fred
Pema Pera: easy to delete!
Neela Blaisdale: I’m still very technologicaly challanged, getting better tho. Maybe someday.
Pema Pera: and Fred, sure, you can send it too if you like
stevenaia Michinaga: hi Neela, didn;t see you there
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: sendi it? i thought we are peer producing a distributed transcript
Pema Pera: Neela, it takes quite a bit of time to get used to SL. For most of us it took at least a few months of regular visits
doug Sosa: i must bow and leave
Adams Rubble: bye Doug
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: cya
stevenaia Michinaga: by Doug
Pema Pera: bye Doug
Doug took off, and the log keeping let to a discussion about our new PaB wiki.
Pema Pera: Fred, sure, wiki is fine too! That will be the only way we do it from next month on.
Neela Blaisdale: Thanks Pema I appreciate the encouragement. Also I’m not especially computer proficient in RL either
Pema Pera: But for this month, at least, while I am adding things still to the blog, I am a few days behind in putting things together
stevenaia Michinaga: adams, does your did you make your shirt of the same material as the pillows?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: we try to help each other peer produce RL too
Adams Rubble: Yes Steve
Pema Pera: Which means you can’t put it at the end of my wiki part until a few days from now — and it may therefore be easier to email it today rather than waiting till I put up my part first.
Pema Pera: Neela, don’t ever feel hesitant to ask technical or whatever questions about SL here, to anyone
Pema Pera: we all learn by asking each other
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i acutally think we need a way of marking chat logs that are still being processed
Pema Pera: Most of us learn from each other rather than from manuals
Neela Blaisdale: TY Pema
Pema Pera: yes, good point, Fred, what do you suggest?
Neela Blaisdale: and everyone.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: um. Under Consturction graphic up top?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: bright yellow hats and all?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn:
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: doesn’t matter much, if its uniform, but it happened to me today too. i wanted to post it, before i had a chance to comment
stevenaia Michinaga: label it stevie-esque until complete
Adams Rubble: :)
Pema Pera: The problem of posting before commenting is a BIG problem I think:
Pema Pera: you then either have people reading it raw, with the most likely chance they will never get back to reading the comments
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: color the entire text ligth grey? or, even better, use the deki strikeout feature
Pema Pera: or they have to keep track of not only what they read but in which stage they read it
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: well, its a tricky issue, cause commenting includes formatting, which is easier to do inside the wiki than all outside in a text editor
Adams Rubble sees Pema’s point
Pema Pera: Ah, interesting, Fred, coloring it . . . . hadn’t thought about that
Pema Pera: I like Fred’s philosophy of using ONLY the wiki and not email and other tricks
Pema Pera: simpler, easier — if we can find a good way to make it work
Fred had a brilliant idea: spoiler notes!
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: http://wiki.developer.mindtouch.com/MindTouch_Deki/Extensions/Spoiler
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: spoiler tags ;-)
Pema Pera: well, we still have two weeks to shake out!
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: readable in the editor, but not when viewing (unless you highlight the text)
Pema Pera: I suggest, Fred, that you send an email to the whole playasbeing list about this
Pema Pera: so that we can all discuss this, before we make the big switch on August 1
Pema Pera: I gotta run now.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: ah geez. maybe i shoudl have just emailed you the log ;-)
Pema Pera: See you all!
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: l8tr
Pema Pera: hehehe
Adams Rubble: haha
Neela Blaisdale: Good night Pema
Adams Rubble: bye Pema
Pema Pera: c u 2 Fred :)
Pema Pera: bye all
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: nighty nite
I then took off. Later Adams would send me the rest of the log. The comments remain mine.
Pema Pera is Offline
Adams Rubble: and then he was gone
Neela Blaisdale: ….
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: you know, adams, those smaller multi colored cusions would make a great hat…
stevenaia Michinaga: ever try one on? they suck your right in
stevenaia Michinaga: …smile
stevenaia Michinaga: you look comfy
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: contotionit pillows
Adams Rubble is looking for her hat
Neela Blaisdale: :)
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: STRETCH
stevenaia Michinaga: Adams, is that a PaB logo on your jacket?
Adams Rubble: yes Steve
Adams Rubble: Whaddya think Fred
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: hah! cute.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: don’t turn your head too quickly
Adams Rubble: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: you have been busy
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i’ve seen too many three stooges movies
Adams Rubble: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: now we have a PaB consession
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i am ridiculously restless tonight
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: cna’t sit still
Adams Rubble: too much coffee?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i wish it were that simple
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: not sleeping great either
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: lots on my mind, perhaps
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: its been a stimulating few weeks.
Adams Rubble: I hate when that happens
stevenaia Michinaga: you leaving Neela?
Neela Blaisdale: Whoops trying to see Adams logo
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i really should up my PaB frequency or something
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s abstacted on her back and pants
Adams Rubble models the PaB outfit
Friedrich Ochsenhorn sings “on the catwalk”
stevenaia Michinaga: you know Nela, you can look around corners with your camera
Adams Rubble blushes
Neela Blaisdale: ty Fred
Neela Blaisdale: Yes i’ve been trying the camera,
With Adams still being the center of attention and admiration, Sky dropped by.
stevenaia Michinaga: hello Sky
Adams Rubble is a PaB groupie
Adams Rubble: Hi Sky
Neela Blaisdale: Yes I found it looking for a mind-body institute that was supposed to be in SL. Didn’t find that but this has been so much more
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: for there to be groupies, don’t we need to go on tour?
Neela Blaisdale: Hello Sky
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: hi there
Neela Blaisdale: Nice hat Adams
Adams Rubble: There are lots of places to go in SL
Adams Rubble: thanks Neela
Adams Rubble: What were we talking about?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: life, the universe, and everything?
Adams Rubble: ah, small matters
Compared to Being, yes :)
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: but i was talking about restlesness, in particular
Neela Blaisdale: :)
Sky Szimmer: our favorite topic!
Adams Rubble: Life is too short
Adams Rubble: The universe is big
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: what would we do w/out logs!
Adams Rubble: and everything else
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: and, infinity is a /really/ big number
Adams Rubble: yes, that too
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: sky, where are you coming from?
Neela Blaisdale: What kind of restlessness Fred?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: this happens to me when i am in the middle of working out puzzles. i get excited about things and have a hard time spinning down
Sky Szimmer: that’s great in a way because you are totally absorbed
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: just alot of connections and associations falling into place lately
Sky Szimmer: like what?
Sky Szimmer: it has for me too.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i guess the theme of transcending duality has been pretty dominant this summer
Sky Szimmer: yes. pretty much an obsession with me for a while now.
stevenaia Michinaga: transcending duality..please explain
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: completely separate (or so I thought) from this group, i have been involved in a reading group this summer, and the book we are reading is finally starting to make sense
Sky Szimmer: which book is that?
Fred mentioned a book by Latour.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: we are working our way throught Bruno Latour’s Politics of Nature
Sky Szimmer: oh. know nothing about that
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: and when I say reading it, i literally mean going around the table and reading it out loud until we undertstand it
Adams Rubble: wow
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: oh, frech theorist who does alot of sociology of science and stuff
Sky Szimmer: is it about duality
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: yes, it takes up some very classic themes
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: nature vs. culture, science vs. democracy, objective vs. subject, fact vs. value, necessity vs. freedom
Sky Szimmer: hey, i have an idea, why don’t we go around the room and share some of our favorite readings
Sky Szimmer: about this subject
stevenaia Michinaga: I don;t read about this subject, actually
Neela Blaisdale: Duality/
Neela Blaisdale: ? I mean
Adams Rubble isn;t sure what duality is
Sky Szimmer: duality is when you think in terms of subject, object
Adams Rubble: grammar?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: ;-)
Neela Blaisdale: You mean like being both self and other in the same moment?
Sky Szimmer: fried, when have you found in your readings about duality?
Sky Szimmer: when doe it mean to you?
Sky Szimmer: for me, it is like thinking that there is an other and then there is a separate self. that is duality
Sky Szimmer: to think there is a world that exists outside of ourselves
Sky Szimmer: that we are separate
Adams Rubble: whoops there goes Fred
stevenaia Michinaga: fred crashed
Adams Rubble: wb Fred
Neela Blaisdale: Hi Fred
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: jeez. these logs are going to be a joy to reconstruct!
Adams Rubble: :)
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: sorry about that.
Adams Rubble: It’s a bad night
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: the best
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: did i miss anyone’s favorite book?
Sky Szimmer: nope.
Adams Rubble: :)
Sky mentioned some of her favorite books.
Sky Szimmer: well, since i started that thread, i will jump in and list mine.
Adams Rubble tries to think of a book
Sky Szimmer: mine are: “I am That”, “the Power of Now”
Adams Rubble: We lost Steve
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: snicker. its like russian roulette tonight
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i never read those — but will look htem up
Neela Blaisdale: I’m afraid I need to go Good night everyone
Adams Rubble: bye Neela :)
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: neela - before you go - your favorite book?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: on a related subject, or other? can’t get out of it that easily ;-)
Sky Szimmer: “who am I”
Neela Blaisdale: I always have trouble thinking about books on the spot. Can’t think of one on duality right now but a recent book I loved was : Interpreter of Maladies
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: cool - we’re building an end of summer reading list
Sky Szimmer: Sorry guys. RL is getting tough to handle. got to run. sorry to drop in and run
Sky Szimmer: ciao
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: later
Neela Blaisdale: Fiction but about what kind of choices we make
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: g’night
Adams Rubble: Bye Sky
Neela Blaisdale: Bye all
Adams Rubble: I am reading Cokie Robert’s Founding Mothers at the moment
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: g’night.
Adams Rubble: night Neela
Sky and Neela left.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: hey Adams - i think i should take off too. though, if you want to add a book, the log will be complete
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: although, i wouldn’t say the one i am reading this summer is my /favorite/
Adams Rubble: I did
Adams Rubble: I am very tired toooo
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: you did? sorry i lost track
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: k. let’s get going.
Adams Rubble: Cokie Roberts’ Founding Mothers
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: oh! you did want to add a book, not that you /had/ added a book
Adams Rubble: ?
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: forgt it. i am pretty tired too ;-)
Adams Rubble: That was a book
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: yes, i know. i was 5 lines back
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i misunderstood something you said.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: wrote
Adams Rubble: Ah
Adams Rubble: OK
:)
Adams Rubble: I hope you are able to get some sleep
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: I haven’t read that either. such diversity in our group
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: oh, thanks. eventually
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: just need to wind down
Adams Rubble: I usually can get to sleep but wake up in the middle of the night when I am agitated
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: at the very least, i seem to be able to channel my energy towards relatively productive pursuits
Adams Rubble: Hi Steve. wb
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: oh, that’s rough. i sleep like a log once i am out
As opposed to reading a log . . . many logs . . .
Adams Rubble: Steve, we are about to take off
stevenaia Michinaga: Adams, I lost the log in my crash, could you send yours to pema
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: yeah, its been a long day - i’ll stick it out since i’ve got the whole log
Adams Rubble: Yes, I will Steve
A brief discussion about log preservation.
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: oh jeez. maybe i lost mine too
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i don’t know
Adams Rubble: No I crashed twice earlier
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks, I crshed as I was saving it
Adams Rubble: Oh you lost it
stevenaia Michinaga: but Pema was on when you returned
Adams Rubble: oh my
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: i think i may have the entire thing, except for the minute i was out
Adams Rubble: Yes he has that part
Adams Rubble: Well we have it covered whatever :)
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: yeah, i have everything except for where i crashed
stevenaia Michinaga: save what you have and have pema put it together
Adams Rubble: OK
And so he did, which is what you are reading now.
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks
Friedrich Ochsenhorn: g’night folks
Adams Rubble: goddnight Fred and Steve :)
Adams Rubble: goodnight
stevenaia Michinaga: night
