I arrive...Pila Mulligan and Adelene Dawner, Solobill Laville, Threedee Shepherd and Sylectra Darwin follow.  The timely topic begins... the New Year and politics

     stevenaia Michinaga: evening Pila
    Pila Mulligan: hi Steve
stevenaia Michinaga: thing coming together on your house?
Pila Mulligan: yes, the electricians finished their work yesterday, plumbers are due tomorrow to wrap up theirs :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Ade
    Pila Mulligan: hi Adelene
    Adelene Dawner flops down expressively.
Pila Mulligan: hi Threedee and Solobill
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Three, Solo
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello
    Solobill Laville: Hi, all!
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, watch those claws
    Threedee Shepherd: Hi, folks,
    Adelene Dawner: ^.^
stevenaia Michinaga: everyone relaxed and refreshed for the new year?
Solobill Laville sighs and wishes he was...
Adelene Dawner chuckles. "Ask me next week."
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: new year?
Pila Mulligan: seems like just another week ...
stevenaia Michinaga: oh, let me re-phase, every happy 2008 is behind us?
    stevenaia Michinaga: *let
    Pila Mulligan: :) yes
Adelene Dawner chuckles. "I can agree to that."
stevenaia Michinaga: ...smiles looking for some kinds of positive consensus
    Solobill Laville: :)
Threedee Shepherd: As a "semi"-retired person, all weeks are somewhat similar, it's hard to take a day off ^.^
Pila Mulligan: I recongize the problem 3d
    Threedee Shepherd: 2008--when was that ?? ;D
stevenaia Michinaga: what does taking a day off from retirement mean?
    Pila Mulligan: ironic isn't it
Pila Mulligan: taking a day off from retirement may not be so meaningful as the blending of days on to the next
    Pila Mulligan: one *
    Threedee Shepherd: yes, Pila
    stevenaia Michinaga: blending days?
Pila Mulligan: I once heard Muhammed Ali give one of his very funny talks on the subject of workdays
Pila Mulligan: his point was that each work day was compressed into so many events that only a few minutes remained as personal time
Pila Mulligan: then you have the weekends, sometimes
Pila Mulligan: for me, semi-retirment means those boundaries disappear, I still do work, and hardly even notice the weekend
Threedee Shepherd: much the same here, Pila
stevenaia Michinaga: sounds like calculus of time, smaller and smaller bits adding up to something, but each bit is a "moment"
stevenaia Michinaga: something less than time passage
Pila Mulligan: but historically 2008 was a watershed year, for sure, and 2009 will see some differences, I hope
stevenaia Michinaga: watershed in what respect
    Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: much happened , much un-happened
Pila Mulligan: well: 1st black president, big economic collapse, discrediting of many policies of the past 8 years, for starts
stevenaia Michinaga: a fitting end and beginning
    Pila Mulligan: hi Doug
stevenaia Michinaga: socialized banking on a republican watch, let's not forget
    Solobill Laville: Hey, Doug
    doug Sosa: hi,..
Pila Mulligan: really -- reminded me of Nixon and China
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Doug
Pila Mulligan: personally I hope the legitimatization of torture gets a very hard rebuke and reversal
Pila Mulligan: that's a commission John McCain should lead, too

Myna Maven, a new face I met recently arrives

    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Myna, Welcome
    Myna Maven: Hello.
    Myna Maven: Thanks.
stevenaia Michinaga: please click on a pillow and have a seat
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Sylectra
Pila Mulligan: hi Myna and Sylectra
    Sylectra Darwin: GRIN
    Sylectra Darwin: HI!
Myna Maven: Hi Pila, Sylectra and everyone.
Sylectra Darwin: I heard all my favorite peeps are here so I wanted to drop in.
    Sylectra Darwin: Hi Myna.
    doug Sosa: peeps?
    Pila Mulligan: = people
stevenaia Michinaga: Myna is new to SL. I met her at the Kira Cafe earlier
    doug Sosa: whoda guess'd't
Sylectra Darwin: Well fabulous! Were you at one of the programs, or just socializing?
Myna Maven: Me? I had just dropped in last night...wandering about...and after reading up on the website had returned today to the Happy Hour.
    doug Sosa: welcome!
    Myna Maven: Thanks.
stevenaia Michinaga: seems we are a very low energy group tonight
    Adelene Dawner snores.
Solobill Laville thinks of some sort of bomb to throw out there...
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Myna Maven: I know that I am, yes, you're right.
Threedee Shepherd: topic: What is human "energy" and where does it come from? (I don't mean metabolism;)
Sylectra Darwin: It's the day before I have to go back to work :(
    Pila Mulligan: nice one Threedee
    Solobill Laville: (me too Syl)
Sylectra Darwin: Threedee, you are a born guardian.
doug Sosa: i think he greeks used energy first to describe people, life vitality, only later did it become part of physics.

    Claire Arrives

    Pila Mulligan: hi Claire
Threedee Shepherd: interesting, doug. Yet, I think "energy" is something other or more than "vital life-force"
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Claire
Solobill Laville: Is this force different for humans than anything else?
Pila Mulligan: in Chinese human energy is known as chi and it comes from breathing air
Threedee Shepherd: I am not sure, but I don't think the squirrels in my yard need to "get up the energy to go to work, or to face a dilemma, etc."
Pila Mulligan: they breathe well probably :)
    Solobill Laville: :)...mine either
Sylectra Darwin: How about that energy anticipated is important?
Sylectra Darwin: Maybe I didn't say that very well.
doug Sosa: in chinese he character for chi is the steam rising from boiled rice with all the extra stuff such steam would have in it.
Sylectra Darwin: When you are dreading something coming up, you spend energy on imagining how awful it will be. You live the experience in a negative way before you even live it in real life.
    Threedee Shepherd: that makes sense
Sylectra Darwin: Doug! :) Love to study chi.
Solobill Laville: Yes, Syl, that is nurturing a weed in your garden
Myna Maven: What about a distinction between motivation and energy? Such as with the squirrels. :) I've known dogs who suddenly decided fetch was pointless and laid down smiling and never played fetch again.
stevenaia Michinaga: Usually the speculation is worst than the reality
doug Sosa: yes, its not the things but the ideas about the things that disturb us, some wise person(s) said. Hard to recall when in the middle of traffic.

MarcusFalco Paravane arrives.  Sylectra begins the conversation by sharing her thoughts on the  "energy" available to each of us

stevenaia Michinaga: hello Marcus, come sit
Sylectra Darwin: It's probably my blatant Americanism showing through but I am thinking of emotions as part of an accounting system, right or wrong. We have a certain amount of energy in a day. We can spend it how we choose. Things will come up that will require us to spend a lot and we dont' know when they will. So we must conserve that emotional energy when we can, by living with a lighter heart.
stevenaia Michinaga: have you been here before Marcus?
MarcusFalco Paravane: I do not believe so although I just live over in Kayeso.
doug Sosa: the amount of energy is not fixed. what we do can either sap it our generate it.
    Sylectra Darwin: Join us Marcus?
stevenaia Michinaga: I will IM you background of our group
doug Sosa: Yes marcus, please do.
Threedee Shepherd: Syl, well I know someone with a chronic physical disability who measures here energy before she gets out of bed, to determine how to allocate it.

    doug Sosa  brings up Chi

Solobill Laville: So, what is the source of chi, and what is the difference between the source and chi?
MarcusFalco Paravane: If I may be permitted I would sit and listen to your discussions.
    Solobill Laville: Of course, Marcus
doug Sosa: in ta chi, the movement of the body generates chi. the point of the exercise is to generate more and be able to focus it.
Threedee Shepherd: Syl, do you have ideas about why emotional energy is so "finite" on a given day?
Sylectra Darwin: Marcus, you are welcome to jump in if you find something you'd like to comment on. There's no set format.
    Sylectra Darwin: Good question, Threedee.
Sylectra Darwin: Threedee, I think energy is finite in a given day because of how we perceive it, based on our past history and our perception of our stresses we need to deal with.
Sylectra Darwin: It's subjective, in other words. Which is very good news indeed for those of us that need to eke a little more out of each day.
Sylectra Darwin: Three, tell me about your friend who measures the energy he or she will have before getting up?
Solobill Laville: What of creative energy, Syl? Same thing?
Threedee Shepherd: She has chronic MS and is in her 60s. Some days at the end of the day she says she has enough energy to cook dinner or to eat it, but not both. I think her case is different than the emotional energy Syl referred to
Sylectra Darwin: Solobill, again, it's up to how you perceive energy. Creative energy can actually be renewing as you spend it, if you do it right.
stevenaia Michinaga: Creative energy is the downhill energy, it continues to accelerate
Solobill Laville nods at that softball he just threw
Sylectra Darwin: If you think of creative energy as something that is pulled out of you by force or compulsion, you will probably perceive it as draining and so it will be.
doug Sosa: an interesting model is sexualenergy: not feeling sexual it ain't there, but once it starts, whole new ball game. Hey, where did you come from?
Solobill Laville: Yes, and spiritual energy I have found to be similar to that Doug
    Sylectra Darwin: grins
Sylectra Darwin: Doug, I love that example.
doug Sosa: I've only heard about it,never tried it :)
stevenaia Michinaga: the energy associated with love (and sex) and creativity seems similar
stevenaia Michinaga: it grows, at least initially
    Solobill Laville: and Being
doug Sosa: i have come to think of being tired as not an absence of energy, but a different kind, also requiring release.
    stevenaia Michinaga: release?
    stevenaia Michinaga: could you explain
Threedee Shepherd: Tired is very different and has a neurochemical, physiological basis.
doug Sosa: go to sleep in order to release the energy of tiredness.
doug Sosa: neurochemical is not close to experience.
Solobill Laville: Seems very balanced Doug...
stevenaia Michinaga: interesting... release the energy of the lack of energy
stevenaia Michinaga: to get more energy
    Sylectra Darwin: haha
Sylectra Darwin: Steven....not sure if that's what Doug meant - Doug?
doug Sosa: no, no lack, just different. i have the energy to write, i have the energy to sleep.
    doug Sosa: both are positive.
Adelene Dawner: so, not remove energy - just change it from one form to another. Interesting.
Sylectra Darwin: transmute the energy - alchemy?
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
Sylectra Darwin: I am very into this topic.
Sylectra Darwin: You guys have some great comments.
doug Sosa: not change. These are different forms of energy, among probably some leakage among them, but writing, eating, loving, painting, violining, sleeping, are all different..
Sylectra Darwin: Found this and thought you might enjoy reading a bit of it: http://fawnchang.com/2008/06/19/easy...tional-energy/
stevenaia Michinaga: you just stumble across this Sylectra
doug Sosa: must go do dishes. (think of it as tai chi - get energy ! :) )
    Solobill Laville: bye, Doug
Solobill Laville understands now why his stuff is in the garage...
    Pila Mulligan: bye doug
stevenaia Michinaga: seems Doug was the life of the party
    Solobill Laville blinks his eyes
Squee: Who has fully realized that history is not contained in thick books but lives in our very blood?
Sylectra Darwin: Solo, why do you say your stuff was in your garage?
Solobill Laville: THe first comment on the feng shui link you posted
Solobill Laville: "I heard a comedian define Feng Shui as put you husband's  s@$# in the garage."
Sylectra Darwin: yes, I saw that.
    Sylectra Darwin: haha
    Solobill Laville blinks again
    Solobill Laville: :)
Myna Maven: Squee, I've had experience with this but am wondering what you were thinking?
Sylectra Darwin: Steven, just saw this web site when I heard your topic was energy.
Squee: Thinking? That was just what the random number generator told me to say. ^.^
Solobill Laville throws squee some cheese
Pila Mulligan: Squee is but a dummy for an anonymous ventriloquist, Myna
Pila Mulligan: pardon me Squee, you are a smart dummy :)
    Myna Maven: Oh. Well. :)
    Solobill Laville: hehe
Adelene Dawner: Squee also chats random quotes. ^.^
Solobill Laville: Perhaps the Holidays have drained our collective Chi
stevenaia Michinaga: a good point to begin a new year, the only direction is up
    Solobill Laville: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I'll close down the log now unless a new subject falls upon us
stevenaia Michinaga: thank you all for your company
Threedee Shepherd: Perhaps that's what happens when we try to get by on the Chi-ep?
    Solobill Laville: Bye, Steve
Pila Mulligan: the loggin hour ends with a bad pun :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: a good sign?
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: bad pun
    Myna Maven: Enjoyed myself. Thanks.
stevenaia Michinaga: they can only get better
    Solobill Laville: Night, all
    Pila Mulligan: hi Trance
    Sylectra Darwin: threedee, haha!
    Sylectra Darwin: night all.
stevenaia Michinaga: someone kick the recorder, it won;t stop
    Pila Mulligan: bye Solo
    Pila Mulligan: bye Myna
Threedee Shepherd: bye folks, see you again
Pila Mulligan: yes, pleasant chat, see you all next time
