2011.03.29 19:00 - This engine keeping you alive

The Guardian for this meeting was Eos Amaterasu. The comments are by Eos Amaterasu.

    iwandertoo Resident: waves
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Susan
Eos Amaterasu: Have you been to PaB here before?
    Eos Amaterasu: *(Play as Being)
    iwandertoo Resident: Yes, thanks.

    Eos reads Susan's (iwandertoo's) profile

Eos Amaterasu: "this engine keeping you alive" :-)

    iwandertoo Resident: :)
Eos Amaterasu: that could be a great framing for a 90 second suspension....
    iwandertoo Resident: how so?
Eos Amaterasu reads from iwantertoo's profile

    wondrous....
    listen again. listen.
    the quiet hum,
    this conscious moment,
    this engine keeping you alive.

Eos Amaterasu: To me this seems like a wonderful evocation of Play as Being, so to speak

iwandertoo Resident: yes, i see what you mean
iwandertoo Resident: i dont know that i have thought about it in this way
Eos Amaterasu: heh heh, in a way when you say or write something, you let it out ,and then people have their own experiences with it
Eos Amaterasu: anyway, that's how it resonated for me
iwandertoo Resident: thank you for sharing

Eos Amaterasu: Will you attend any of the party?
Eos Amaterasu is studying the intense party schedule
    iwandertoo Resident: party?
Eos Amaterasu: this weekend, starting Friday... it's described in the big white schedule
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Eliza
    iwandertoo Resident: i dont know
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eos, Susan :)
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
Eos Amaterasu: the 3rd birthday of Play as Beiong
    Eos Amaterasu: a toddler
    Eos Amaterasu: more than that
    Eos Amaterasu: a walker
Eos Amaterasu: Play as Child :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: three is old enough to climb up on countertops and plunder cabinets... very busy age...
Eos Amaterasu: playing a lot with things
Eos Amaterasu recalls Heraclitus talking about the Aeon being a child playing with colored balls on the beach

Eos Amaterasu: I had read Susan's profile
Eos Amaterasu: and found it resonating with a 90-sec, perhaps upcoming
    Eos Amaterasu:

    wondrous....
    listen again. listen.
    the quiet hum,
    this conscious moment,
    this engine keeping you alive.

    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: Nice poem!
Eliza Madrigal: what a nice way to enter the pause
    iwandertoo Resident: :)

Eos Amaterasu: Eos the tank engine
    Eos Amaterasu: (3 years old)
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
Eliza Madrigal: I'm half asleep but somehow this is very pleasant
Eos Amaterasu: "this engine keeping you alive"
Eliza Madrigal: the words are blending a bit... quiet hum... the sound/feel of a train running on its tracks
Eos Amaterasu: all the hums and moments and perceptions
iwandertoo Resident: it is inspired by Galt's engine
Eos Amaterasu: ? can u say more?
iwandertoo Resident: not sure it would be welcomed here
iwandertoo Resident: a reference to Atlas Shrugged
Eliza Madrigal: fun to play with things that would seem to have a place, and things that would seem not to...
Eos Amaterasu: so he was working on an engine?
iwandertoo Resident: yes, he created one that represented the best within the human mind...
iwandertoo Resident: much like one's heart
Eos Amaterasu: sounds like what Michelangelo tried to do
    iwandertoo Resident: yes
Eos Amaterasu: the drifting in and out of place is like the pistons of the locomotive wheels
Eos Amaterasu: the question is inevitable: how would you represent the best within the human mind?
    Eos Amaterasu: hi stevenaia
    stevenaia Michinaga: hi
iwandertoo Resident: depends on the goal
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Stevenia :)
    iwandertoo Resident: waves
Eos Amaterasu: we are drifting in and out of being, swaying with it....
Eos Amaterasu: choose your goal, Susan!
    Eos Amaterasu thinks of Mozart
    iwandertoo Resident: one's happiness
    Eliza Madrigal: :)

stevenaia Michinaga: Mozart did not seem to be a happy person
stevenaia Michinaga: what a strange result of that
    Eos Amaterasu: infused with sadness
    Eos Amaterasu: transparency
    Eos Amaterasu: humor
    Eos Amaterasu: mercy
    Eos Amaterasu: lust
    Eos Amaterasu: love
stevenaia Michinaga: yet created such profound beauty
Eliza Madrigal: both raw and refined
Eos Amaterasu: didn't hide the foibles, saw right through them, and that in itself was truth, beauty, complete allowing
    Eos Amaterasu: (the operas especially)
stevenaia Michinaga: there seems to be beauty in even the saddist things

    --BELL--

    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bertrum :)
    Bertrum Resident: Hi everyone
    stevenaia Michinaga: h Bert
    Eos Amaterasu: Hi Bertrum
Eos Amaterasu: "Pain is not a punishment; pleasure is not a reward"
    Bertrum Resident: ?
Eos Amaterasu: Ha Ha... sorry, coming from a different context.....
Eos Amaterasu: we were talking about how to express the essence of the human mind
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
    Eos Amaterasu: (something like that)
Eos Amaterasu: (we are nothing if not ambitious :-)
    Bertrum Resident: Okay, thanks.
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Eos Amaterasu: there's something painful about one's happiness, because it involves everybody else
Eos Amaterasu: as does the pain
Bertrum Resident: Would you explain that?
Eos Amaterasu: if happiness expands you, it then includes other people, who may or may not be happy
Bertrum Resident: Why is happiness and pain dependent on others?
Eos Amaterasu: well, you may not be able to separate yourself from others
Eos Amaterasu: we are awash in each other
Eos Amaterasu: I read the news today oh boy
Bertrum Resident: A day in the life...
Eos Amaterasu: A day in the lifetime...
Bertrum Resident: I suspect it is possible to experience happiness and pain -- alone.
    iwandertoo Resident: nods
Eos Amaterasu: the quiet hum, this conscious moment, this engine keeping you alive.
Eliza Madrigal: seems impossible to be alone.. everything we touch is infused with the efforts of others, the thoughts, the dreams...
Eos Amaterasu: the hum is that of codependent origination (Eos' commentary)
    iwandertoo Resident: how so?
Eos Amaterasu: all the bits and pieces of the engine are making up you
    iwandertoo Resident: singular one
    iwandertoo Resident: one's heart
Eos Amaterasu: your skin, your bones, the billions of cells and bacteria in you
    Eos Amaterasu: all your thoughts
Bertrum Resident: Ah, one is her/his own universe...

    --BELL--

    iwandertoo Resident: oneself
Eos Amaterasu: I suppose there is also a pretty profound aloneness
Eliza Madrigal: 'we' as one, alone
    Bertrum Resident: The world within...
iwandertoo Resident: what is 'we as one'?
    Eliza Madrigal: sleepy musings :)
Eos Amaterasu: being is seeing double :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: reflections, yes
    Bertrum Resident: duality....
    iwandertoo Resident: duality?
Eos Amaterasu: Aristotle said, "the mind is in a certain way 'all things'"
Eos Amaterasu: it is one and it is many
Eos Amaterasu: as pema likes to say, the opposite of a great truth is also a great truth
iwandertoo Resident: i don't believe this is what was meant
    Eliza Madrigal listens
Eos Amaterasu: can u say more, Susan?

iwandertoo Resident: "the opposite of a great truth is also a great truth"...how so?
Eos Amaterasu: you could say, we are never alone
Eos Amaterasu: you could say, we are profoundly alone
Eos Amaterasu: I think they are both true
Eos Amaterasu: not in the middle
Eos Amaterasu: but at the ends
iwandertoo Resident: have you an example?

Bertrum Resident: Cut and pasted this definition: Alternatively, dualism can mean the tendency of humans to perceive and understand the world as being divided into two overarching categories. In this sense, it is dualistic when one perceives a tree as a thing separate from everything surrounding it, or when one perceives a "self" that is distinct from the rest of the world. In traditions such as classical Hinduism, Zen Buddhism or Islamic Sufism, a key to enlightenment is "transcending" this sort of dualistic thinking, without merely substituting dualism with monism or pluralism.
Eos Amaterasu: I'm down with that :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    iwandertoo Resident: i'm not...
    iwandertoo Resident: lol
iwandertoo Resident: i see why i am so lost
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    Eliza Madrigal: hehe...
stevenaia Michinaga: I;m with you susan, been scratchiing my head with duality for years
Eos Amaterasu tries to imagine that :-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: lol
stevenaia Michinaga: at least until the itch stops
Eos Amaterasu: what is the itch?
stevenaia Michinaga: clearity of understanding duality
Eos Amaterasu: can you suggest a way we could approach that question in the upcoming 90 secs?
    stevenaia Michinaga: hmm
    stevenaia Michinaga: Play with duality....
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
Eliza Madrigal will need to leave after the bell. Thanks much Eos, everyone:)

    --BELL--

    stevenaia Michinaga: night eliza
    Bertrum Resident: night Eliza

Bertrum Resident: Left SL entirely for awhile. Signed up again with the same first name.
    stevenaia Michinaga: welcome back
    Bertrum Resident: Thanks.
Bertrum Resident: Has your connection to SL stayed the same over time?
stevenaia Michinaga: in what sence... my regularity?
stevenaia Michinaga: It lessens from time to time
Bertrum Resident: By connection I mean interest.
stevenaia Michinaga: I think my interest has continued consistently, however the strength of any particular place, even this one, has its strong more involved periods and other less involved moments
stevenaia Michinaga: I am here during my quiet evenings
stevenaia Michinaga: usually with my cat
stevenaia Michinaga: but there always seem to be this place to sit quietly
stevenaia Michinaga: never any "pressure" to participate
Bertrum Resident: Cat feel the same way?
stevenaia Michinaga: just his need to sit on my typing arms
    Bertrum Resident: Nice!
