Bruce Mowbray: Hey, Qt!  A friend is going to give me his 8" reflecting telescope!!
    Santoshima Resident: super!
    Qt Core: :-)
Bruce Mowbray: I've been researching Stellarium to see how to set coordinates in a "go-to" mount.

    http://stellarium.org

    Qt Core: brb
    Bruce Mowbray: kk.
Bruce Mowbray: (Do they allow avi's to smoke joints in this sim?)
    Santoshima Resident: dunno
Santoshima Resident: should be alright :)
    Bruce Mowbray: cool.
Bruce Mowbray: Any thoughts about games and gaming today?
    Santoshima Resident: everything is "game"
    Bruce Mowbray: ahhh!
Bruce Mowbray: Do you know the book by James Carse?
Bruce Mowbray: "Finite and Infinite Games" ??
    Santoshima Resident: which book?
Santoshima Resident: oh, no, don't know it
    Bruce Mowbray: A terrific book....
Bruce Mowbray: "a vision of life as play and possibility"
    Santoshima Resident: ok, I'm interested
    Bruce Mowbray: Heya, Zon!
    Santoshima Resident: hi Zon :)

    Santoshima Resident: bye bye zon
Bruce Mowbray: bye for now, Zon.
    Santoshima Resident: hello kitty...
Bruce Mowbray: here, kitty kitty kitty.
    Oups Waco: Is this dinner?

Oups is referring to the fish "Spot" swimming back and forth in the fountain.

    Bruce Mowbray: heh heh
Bruce Mowbray: Only if you're playing a finite game, Oups!
Bruce Mowbray: Otherwise, you'll want the game to continue on, (by not eating Spot.)
Oups Waco: Naaaaaaah... I'm a lazy cat..
Bruce Mowbray: Have you returned yet, Qt?
Qt Core: oh, yes, forgot to tell ;-)
    Bruce Mowbray: kk.
    Santoshima Resident: wb
Bruce Mowbray: Just wanted to tell you that I'm going to get a really fine telescope... for free!
Bruce Mowbray: and I've been researching go-to mounts and tripods.
Qt Core: and losing a few sleep hours too i suppose
Bruce Mowbray: They automatically find the object and point the scope toward it.
Oups Waco: So you are lazy too?
Bruce Mowbray: I will soon be losing sleep, I'm guessing.
Qt Core: i don't know a thing about those, I'm an non observant amateur astronomer ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Not so much lazy as out there in the field looking at celestial objects, Oups -- when I'd otherwise be sleeping.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, the Stellarium program that you recommended is wonderful.
Oups Waco: Yes, I'm sure this can be cool if you are away from the city
Bruce Mowbray: and you can stay inside and warm and dry while you use it.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, my typist is so far away from the nearest city (-ies) that he can't even get a cell phone signal.
    Oups Waco: Nice
Bruce Mowbray: He can see the Milky Way any night that's clear.
Qt Core: to think i've heard they just equipped the Everest with 3G connectivity....
    Bruce Mowbray: WHOA!!
    Oups Waco: oh! lol
    Santoshima Resident: sick
Oups Waco: Nothing stops progress - sighs
Bruce Mowbray: From what I hear, there are more folks on Everest right now than live on my typist's road.
Bruce Mowbray: and more litter, too.
    Oups Waco: Most probably yes
Santoshima Resident: they are dead and frozen, mostly, littered with the oxygen tanks
Bruce Mowbray: Do you folks use Firestorm?
    Oups Waco: I do now
    Bruce Mowbray: kk.
    Santoshima Resident: yes
Bruce Mowbray: I went to my first Firestorm class today.
    Bruce Mowbray: Really good.
    Santoshima Resident: was it fun?
Oups Waco: Lots of options in there
Bruce Mowbray: We talked about all of the menu items at the top of the screen.
    Qt Core: i don't
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, it was fun, too.
    Bruce Mowbray: Just a sec....
    Bruce Mowbray: brb....
Bruce Mowbray: kk. Here's the list of FS classes:
    Bruce Mowbray: http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=firestorm_classes
Oups Waco: I still think, though, that SL viewer offers better graphic quality
Santoshima Resident: i went to some of those several months ago, and found them very helpful
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I intend to go to more of them, San.
Bruce Mowbray: My typist made this t-shirt for me...
Bruce Mowbray: to wear to the class today.
    Oups Waco: oh - lol
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)

    --BELL--

Santoshima Resident: you are branded, Bruce!
Bruce Mowbray: There are tons and tons of stuff I never before imagined in Firestorm....
Oups Waco: Have to run now
    Santoshima Resident: nice kitty
Oups Waco: Was nice to chat with you
    Santoshima Resident: bye for now
    Oups Waco: Take Care
    Santoshima Resident: visit again
    Qt Core: bye Oups
Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now, kitty.
Santoshima Resident: sorry about Blub, Bruce ...
Santoshima Resident: that he is still in the ether
Santoshima Resident: no offence intended toward "Spot"

[Bruce is smoking a joint and in IM w/San said he'd try to give one to her. . . ]

Bruce Mowbray: I can't give you a joint, San, but I can give you the store that it came from....
Santoshima Resident: ok, i don't smoke, but will accept the offer
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I went to all of the regions in my TP history to find Blub, but to no avail.
Bruce Mowbray: kk, here it comes.
    Santoshima Resident: hmm, weird
    Santoshima Resident: ty
Santoshima Resident: you never know ... might come in handy
Bruce Mowbray: 2012 Virtual Chelsea Hotel Rebirth, Lanestris (76, 156, 104) - Moderate  (CannabiSL Store)
Santoshima Resident: aptly named: CannabiSL store
Bruce Mowbray: Apparently the store is also where the new Chelsea Hotel is.
Bruce Mowbray: I remember the old Chelsea -- and also the Chelsea Hotel (New York) in RL.
Santoshima Resident: hmm, will aim to visit
Bruce Mowbray: (looks for Chelsea t-shirt)...
    Santoshima Resident: How're you, Qt?
Bruce Mowbray: asleep at the wheel?
    Qt Core: keeping quiet
    Santoshima Resident: maybe making dinner
    Santoshima Resident: oh
Bruce Mowbray: a bit late for din-din in Italy, no?
    Qt Core: yes, 22:37
Bruce Mowbray: Just about time for my typist to scrape up his vegan dinner, though.
    Bruce Mowbray: 16:37
Bruce Mowbray: [looks at quotes from James Carse....]
Bruce Mowbray: “To be prepared against surprise is to be trained. To be prepared for surprise is to be educated.” ― James P. Carse, Finite and Infinite Games
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/54828.James_P_Carse
Qt Core: that book should be good... otherwise it would already be translated in Italian ;-)
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: I read it decades ago -- then read it again a few months ago.
Bruce Mowbray: so, it came to mind immediately when I saw this week's topic.
Santoshima Resident: planted kale and Italian parsley this morning.
    Bruce Mowbray: Great!
    Bruce Mowbray: yum yum!
Santoshima Resident: black kale and a curly kind
Santoshima Resident: hoping they will grow into the fall and winter
Qt Core: i often wonder how English speaking people think about the word "play" and its many meanings while in Italian they are separated into several words
Santoshima Resident: moved heavy rocks to build the beds

    --BELL--

Qt Core: if that makes them more "playful" for one thing
Bruce Mowbray: There are all sorts of meanings for the word "play" in English, Qt.
Bruce Mowbray: "The play's the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king..." [Hamlet]
Bruce Mowbray: "Ask your mommy if you can come outside and play..."
Santoshima Resident: play us a tune
    Bruce Mowbray: yes!
Santoshima Resident: the play of light on the water surface
    Bruce Mowbray: Playing the piano.
Bruce Mowbray: He played a certain card in the card game.
Bruce Mowbray: My typist lets me 'play around' with this joint.
Qt Core: wondering why it is that way both in English and in French but it is different in Italian (wondering about Spanish now)
    Bruce Mowbray: hmmmm.
Santoshima Resident: how is it different?
Bruce Mowbray: "There is a lot of 'play' in the fishing line because no fish has taken the bait yet."
    Bruce Mowbray: (sorry, Spot.)
Qt Core: we have different word for playing a game, playing an instrument, playing in a play
Bruce Mowbray: Interesting -- that would make the language more precise, surely.
Qt Core: there are such words in English too, but we don't have the cumulative one
Bruce Mowbray: In English we might even say that one is playing around -- if he's kidding, or testing another's naiveté.
Qt Core: we can use "giocare" for "fooling someone"
Bruce Mowbray: James Carse makes many differentiations of the words "Game" and  "Play."
    Bruce Mowbray: giocare....
Qt Core: giocare would be to play (in the to-play-a-game case)
    Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm.
Bruce Mowbray: but not in the "The play's the thing where in will catch the conscience..." case...?
Bruce Mowbray: Perhaps you would say "theater" instead of play.
    Bruce Mowbray: or drama, perhaps.
    Bruce Mowbray: teatro.
Qt Core: yea, or one of the equivalent for comedy/drama/to act
    Bruce Mowbray: ahhh!
Qt Core: that may even like theatre less around here, not connected to the "to play" idea everybody thinks it is a boring thing
Bruce Mowbray: I love the sub-title of Carse's book: "A Vision of life as Play and Possibility."
    Bruce Mowbray: theater is boring?
Qt Core: the idea is, it is considered high-culture, boring by definition
Bruce Mowbray wonders whether the concept of "limits" is required for 'play' of all sorts.
    Bruce Mowbray: high -culture...
    Bruce Mowbray: hmmmm.
Qt Core: beside the high-price, that is ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I was thinking about the high price...
Bruce Mowbray: I know that in New York, a single seat for a Broadway play can cost hundreds of American dollars.
Bruce Mowbray: I went to a play in Chicago last fall -- second balcony: $65/ticket.
Qt Core: that makse me think about having just heard that the Fringe Festival is starting in Edinburgh

    --BELL--

    Bruce Mowbray: OH YES!
Bruce Mowbray: I would LOVE to go to that festival!  I've visited their office -- but not during the festival, unfortunately.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm off to scrape up din-din, folks.
    Bruce Mowbray: Play well!
Santoshima Resident: bye Bruce, and bye qt
Qt Core: time to go for me too
    Qt Core: bye all
