The Guardian for this meeting was Bruce Mowbray. The comments and photo are by Bruce Mowbray.
DR42 Resident: wb
Bruce Mowbray: TY!
Bruce Mowbray: I suddenly lost my internet connection...
DR42 Resident: I assume you found it again. Pesky things, those little packets.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, I had to switch from the router to a direct line into the computer.. but no problem.
Bruce Mowbray looks for Spot.
DR42 Resident: Just be glad it isn't a token based network. You know how hard it is to find tokens these days?
Bruce Mowbray: "based" network? "tokens"?
DR42 Resident: Token Ring vs. Ethernet.. Bad joke.
Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh!
Bruce Mowbray: I'm a bit shabby on my Tolkien, myself.
DR42 Resident: Groan
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: This is the only time all week that Spot comes out to play.
DR42 Resident: You decided on "Spot", eh?
Bruce Mowbray: Uhhhh. . . I think it was Wol who named Spot... and the name seems to have stuck.
Bruce Mowbray: Spot likes it, anyway.
DR42 Resident: Any ideas to wrap up the week?
Bruce Mowbray: Hmmmm.
Bruce Mowbray: Well, are you ready for the Persiods tomorrow and the next night?
DR42 Resident: No. I'm asleep by the time it gets dark enough.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm also usually asleep by the time the show gets really going,
Bruce Mowbray: but I'm going to try to do better this year.
Bruce Mowbray: One year -- decades ago -- I stayed up until I'd counted thirty meteors.
DR42 Resident: One of them could be large?
Bruce Mowbray: We can hope!
DR42 Resident: Or hope not too large.
Bruce Mowbray: I did see a meteor once that left a trail of smoke...
Bruce Mowbray: was camping with about six other guys,
Bruce Mowbray: and we all saw it.
Bruce Mowbray: (as well as the trail that it left).
DR42 Resident: That is cool. Something that happens for very few people.
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, a life-long memory.
DR42 Resident: "You will have to stay up late; the best viewing comes from midnight to dawn"
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I know.
DR42 Resident: According to USA Today.
Bruce Mowbray: But tonight we have perfectly clear skies,
Bruce Mowbray: so it seems a shame to pass up the opportunity.
Bruce Mowbray: (and tomorrow night too, we can hope.)
Bruce Mowbray: A friend is going to give me his telescope.
Bruce Mowbray: It's an 8-inch reflector.
Bruce Mowbray: I hope to buy a go-to mount for it.
DR42 Resident: I have a small Celestron C-90 I should get out.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh cool!
Bruce Mowbray: I have seen pictures of those.
Bruce Mowbray: This guy's scope is an Orion.
DR42 Resident: I used to have a camera adapter for it, but I no longer have a camera to fit it.
Bruce Mowbray: Wow.
Bruce Mowbray: My digital camera won't work with it.
Bruce Mowbray: (no fittings).
DR42 Resident: Nor mine.
Bruce Mowbray: It would be great to take photos of Saturn -- and Andromeda.
DR42 Resident: I had an old Canon 35mm film camera that worked with it, but it "died" years ago.
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: Ahhh. I remember 35 mm well (!)
Bruce Mowbray: My first 35 mm was a Canon FX -- I took it to Europe with me before I'd ever tried it out... and shot my first photos over there.
DR42 Resident: Like that. :)
DR42 Resident: I need to go get some food, getting dizzy.
Bruce Mowbray: kk, np.
Bruce Mowbray: I'm going to get some water, myself.
DR42 Resident: bye
Bruce Mowbray: bye for now!
Bruce Mowbray: Have a pleasant afternoon, Maude!
