    --BELL--

    DR42 Resident: ηαмαѕтє
Bleu Oleander: 's current display-name is "Bleu".
    Bleu Oleander: hiya Maude
    Bleu Oleander: how's everything?
DR42 Resident: OK, but after this I have to go do chores.
Bleu Oleander: OK same here :)
DR42 Resident: What has your impression of the week of music been? Was there exploration, or more sharing?
Eliza Madrigal: 's current display-name is "Eliza".
    DR42 Resident: ηαмαѕтє Eliza
    Bleu Oleander: hi Eliza :)
Bleu Oleander: I haven't had a chance to come this week, what was yours?
    Eliza Madrigal: Hello :)
Hana Furlough: 's current display-name is "Hana".
    Bleu Oleander: hi Hana :)
DR42 Resident: Mostly sharing, some exploration. Some disruption.
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Hana :)
    DR42 Resident: ηαмαѕтє Hana
Hana Furlough: Hi Bleu, Eliza, Marjorie
Eliza Madrigal: I must have missed the disruption
    Bleu Oleander: disruption how so?
DR42 Resident: We seem to have someone who is a troll.
Eliza Madrigal: ah, sometimes people dance a line and it is hard to tell
Eliza Madrigal: ie not disruptive enough to eject but also not quite with the group
Eliza Madrigal: the music sessions I attended were enjoyable though
DR42 Resident: The very definition of a troll.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
DR42 Resident: Yes, some have provoked some significant reflective thought.
Eliza Madrigal: What's keeping you busy Bleu?
Bleu Oleander: rl schedule ... also some new classes :)
Bleu Oleander: social psychology class is fun
Bleu Oleander: talking about perception of reality
    Eliza Madrigal: how so?
Bleu Oleander: that it is psychologically constructed
Bleu Oleander: influenced by attention, contextual factor, past experience, expectation (a big one) and motivations
Bleu Oleander: how we see what we want to see
Bleu Oleander: and don't see what we don't want to see
Bleu Oleander: first week of the class
Eliza Madrigal: see what we're looking for and have foundation to expect
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: talked about "change blindness"
DR42 Resident thinks of the TV series "Perception"
    Bleu Oleander: so fascinating
Bleu Oleander: don't know that one
    Bleu Oleander: gave up TV
Bleu Oleander: haha tried to cancel my TV service
DR42 Resident: Cancel TV and keep internet?
    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: they leave the door open so you are tempted :)
Bleu Oleander: reallly have little use for TV these days
DR42 Resident: They do not have a mechanism to block the basic TV signals while allowing internet. IIRC, in most systems, internet is sandwiched between channels 6 and 7.
Bleu Oleander: ah ok ... figured it was something like that
    DR42 Resident: http://www.tntdrama.com/series/perce...ceptionMediaAd
Bleu Oleander: also taking a class on viruses
Bleu Oleander: and one on human history
    Bleu Oleander: both very interesting
Eliza Madrigal: so the show is abuot deductive reasoning.. ala Sherlock Holmes type
    Bleu Oleander: say more?
DR42 Resident: More than that, they acrually talk about his mental issues from time to time. They recently had an episode focused on his interections in a SL like environment.
    Eliza Madrigal: neat
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: the courses are quite addictive... am signed up for three but mostly watching videos
Eliza Madrigal: sometimes feeling bad to be such a skimmer of the material
Bleu Oleander: some have more additional work than others
    DR42 Resident: From Coursera?
Bleu Oleander: I've skimmed some ... yes Coursera
Eliza Madrigal: I watched the iTunesU videos on time perception also Maude... the latter few were terrific
Bleu Oleander: time perception ... very interesting!
DR42 Resident: There is so much material available that is is a daunting task to filter, and select, what it is worth investing the time to watch.
Eliza Madrigal: some part of me thinks if I could perceive time better I could fit in more courses, along with everything else, ha
Bleu Oleander: so I find I have a limited amount of computer time so SL has been put on back burner a bit
Eliza Madrigal: I chose one to focus on mainly, with the others there opportunity arises... wasn't sleeping well so that helped
Bleu Oleander: what did you focus on?
Eliza Madrigal: hopefully after summer we'll find ways to blend interests in SL too
Eliza Madrigal: mainly the Holocaust course
Eliza Madrigal: then the fiction of relationships then the modern/post-modern
Eliza Madrigal: sort of astouding to me how they fit together like one course though
Bleu Oleander: fiction of relationship took a lot of my time reading the books
Eliza Madrigal: yes I only read a few, and one I'd read before
Eliza Madrigal: I wonder how to talk about these things in sessions
Bleu Oleander: did you read "Disgrace"?
    Eliza Madrigal: no...
Bleu Oleander: interesting with the news of the Florida professor
    Bleu Oleander: great book
Eliza Madrigal: will have to look
Bleu Oleander: they're discussing it next week
Bleu Oleander: interested in hearing the lectures
Bleu Oleander: lots of topics in that book!
    --BELL--

Bleu Oleander: I really loved "the ice palace"
Eliza Madrigal: haunting book... and you're right that these are rich in topics
    Eliza Madrigal: identity especially
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: the movie is haunting also
Bleu Oleander: can watch on youtube
Eliza Madrigal: this morning in one of the holocaust lectures they were talking about objectification and the willingness to look someone in the eye
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: the mirror is created, person to person
Bleu Oleander: Toni Morrison's book talks about objectification in many ways
Eliza Madrigal: I wondered how that applies to SL
    Eliza Madrigal: oh, indeed
Bleu Oleander: can't really look into someone's virtual eyes?
    Eliza Madrigal: right...
Eliza Madrigal: and yet there does feel to be mirroring going on
Eliza Madrigal: heart to heart in conversations I suppose
Eliza Madrigal: or in appreciations of expression?
Bleu Oleander: mirroring can be other than sight I think
Bleu Oleander: but somehow we come to see the eyes as windows of the "soul"
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Hana Furlough: (sneaks out to bed -- goodnight all!)
    Eliza Madrigal: :) Night Hana
    Bleu Oleander: nite Hana
    DR42 Resident: Night
Eliza Madrigal: and sometimes soul can be seen in someone's work and writing
    Bleu Oleander: for sure!
Eliza Madrigal: some kind of transference or impartation takes places
    Eliza Madrigal: connection
Bleu Oleander: we "feel" the connection
Bleu Oleander: something other than surface
Eliza Madrigal: it may have been Borges who talks about it not being in the material or the listener/reader but somewhere in between
Eliza Madrigal: which sort of circles back to the foundation for expectation
    Bleu Oleander: yes

Bleu Oleander: well must take off early today ... busy day
Bleu Oleander: look forward to hearing the new topics
    Eliza Madrigal: okay Bleu, tc
Eliza Madrigal: yes we'll see what comes up :)
    Bleu Oleander: take care
    Bleu Oleander: bye bye
    Eliza Madrigal waves :)
    DR42 Resident: bye
Eliza Madrigal: did you say the show deals with mental "illness" ?
DR42 Resident: Well, the lead role is someone who is a paranoid schizophrenic,
    Eliza Madrigal: ah
DR42 Resident: The link I first posted has an "about" section that has a short summary of the shows concept.
    --BELL--

Eliza Madrigal: sort of interesting times we're in, in terms of people making way for the possible gifts of mental differences/illness
Eliza Madrigal: along with acknowledging the concerns/dangers
DR42 Resident: Yes, there and on other fronts. I have severe ADD, and it makes me good at some things while terrible at others. Recognition of people having different thought/decision processes is a difficult concept for some people to grasp.
Eliza Madrigal: there were so many years of rigid categories
DR42 Resident: And still are. Proof is watching Fox News for about 1 minute. :)
Eliza Madrigal: I make a point never to do that :)
Eliza Madrigal: but you're right.. it is sort of easy to fall into the traps when it seems convenient
DR42 Resident: It is always "convenient"
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: maybe it was "A Beautiful Mind" that began to break down the rigidness
Eliza Madrigal: am trying to think of anything before that book/film that had such an impact in the mainstream
Eliza Madrigal: now there is Oliver Sacks
Eliza Madrigal: almost time for guardian session... am going to situate in the Village Hall then run for coffee :)
    DR42 Resident: OK.
    Eliza Madrigal: see you soon
