The Guardian for this meeting was Zen Arado. The comments are by Zen Arado.

DR42 Resident: I am still not awake...
    Uns Mistwalker: no?
Uns Mistwalker: had your coffee, though?
    DR42 Resident: Not enough.
    Uns Mistwalker: I hear ya.
DR42 Resident: Changed meds recently, it leaves me feeling hung over in the AM until I get used to them.
Uns Mistwalker: Yeah, that can be tough.
Uns Mistwalker: Sunshine is telling me that Zen always goes to Kira Cafe... I am going to try there.
    Riddle Sideways: hello
    Riddle Sideways: Uns poofed
DR42 Resident: Uns just vanished, I guess to see if Zen is at Kira Cafe.
Riddle Sideways: the world has not restarted yet.
DR42 Resident: Is it going to?
    Riddle Sideways: usually wednesdays
DR42 Resident: Maybe "rolling restarts" is more of a crawl today.
    DR42 Resident: BlueSteel today.
    Uns Mistwalker: hm?
Riddle Sideways: wonder what musical soundtrack is apropo for rolling restarts
DR42 Resident: You love the thunder
Riddle Sideways: maybe from "Bambi meets Godzilla"

    Riddle Sideways: Zen-san
    Zen Arado: Hi all
    Zen Arado: sorry I'm late
    Riddle Sideways: s'ok
    Zen Arado: trouble teleporting
    Uns Mistwalker: hi Zen.
Zen Arado: even logging into different places
Uns Mistwalker: yeah sometimes i can't get directly from plaxce to place... h
    Uns Mistwalker: huh.
Zen Arado: as soon as I tp it crashes
Uns Mistwalker: sometimes i have to go to an intermediate sim, then go to where I intend.
    DR42 Resident: Uns: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Beta/BlueSteel
    Uns Mistwalker: ty Maude.
Zen Arado: yes I am having to login at one of the suggested locations on the start screen
Zen Arado: just started at a French place
Zen Arado: I had this trouble before where I live in SL
Zen Arado: and it is taking ages to get logged in
Zen Arado: the line moves across ans just sits there for 2 minutes

Zen Arado: is that happening with others?
Uns Mistwalker: It happens to me from time to time.... I just quit, and log in again.
Zen Arado: thought it was this new Linden thing
Zen Arado: so..music is the topic

    Ripping music:

Zen Arado: what does music do for you?
Uns Mistwalker: I've been ripping a lot of 50's music to disc the last couple of days, and wondering whether it would be useful to sample from.
    Zen Arado: to CD?
Uns Mistwalker: I think that music of different sorts stimulates different parts of our being.
Uns Mistwalker: (to hard drive).... from cd to hard-drive
    Zen Arado: ah
    Zen Arado: to iTunes?
Zen Arado: 50's music on vinyl?
Uns Mistwalker: no. just to my local hard drive, I'm pretty clueless.
Uns Mistwalker: No these are collections... on CD I got from my late Mum.
Zen Arado: 50's music wasn't so good
    Zen Arado: ?
    DR42 Resident: What music?
Uns Mistwalker: doo wop, elvis presley --- jerry lee lewis, little richard, etc.
Zen Arado: pretty limited compared with what came after
Riddle Sideways: but are nice for recognizable samples
Zen Arado: yeh some of it is ok
Zen Arado: I was around then unfortunately
    Riddle Sideways: putting into remixs
    Zen Arado: :)
    DR42 Resident: So was I
    Uns Mistwalker: (me 3)
    Riddle Sideways: me 4
Zen Arado: Buddy Holly was good
Uns Mistwalker: oh yeah.... Everly Brothers
Zen Arado: wake up little Suzie
    Zen Arado: :)
Uns Mistwalker: Strong narratives... and simple.
Riddle Sideways: the start of rock-n-roll was kinda country
Zen Arado: must download some Everlys
Zen Arado: I read it started in 1951
Riddle Sideways: 50's had big bands and lounge singers
    Zen Arado: first record anyway
    Uns Mistwalker: yes.
Uns Mistwalker: lotta good blues then too.
Zen Arado: I downloaded the song but can't remember the name
Uns Mistwalker: Yeah.... I think inventory control and tagging and so forth must be pretty important if you DJ...
Uns Mistwalker: hard to keep everything in your head.
    Zen Arado: it's a nightmare
Uns Mistwalker: do you spend a long time making a playlist?
    Riddle Sideways: Sunji!
Zen Arado: yes a loong time
    Uns Mistwalker: greetings, Sunji.

    Zen Arado: Hi Sunji :)
DR42 Resident: Why don't people have good taging and indexing systems for music? A relational database?
    szavanna Resident: hi everyone :)
Zen Arado: I have lots of playlists
Zen Arado: but hard to know how to and what to play
Zen Arado: I started off with themes
Zen Arado: but you need a mix of genres I think
    szavanna Resident: :)
    szavanna Resident: yes
    Zen Arado: I am learning
    szavanna Resident: me too :)
Uns Mistwalker: Unless you have a deep knowledge of one, like Suni.
    szavanna Resident: ;p
    szavanna Resident: Unsji ;D
Zen Arado: in RL you start with slow tunes and raise energy level gradually
Riddle Sideways: many times tried to database the music, but it takes constant work
    szavanna Resident: yes

Uns Mistwalker: yes.... and a significant portion of what I have was given to me...mixes made by others --- and there is often NO tagging data at all.
Zen Arado: but that doesn't seem to apply in SL
Uns Mistwalker: how does it differ here, Zen?
Zen Arado: easier if you stick to one genre
Zen Arado: but I would get bored with that
Riddle Sideways: seems to be nearly 50 songs title "track 1"
Zen Arado: it isn't hard to get people up to dance in SL
Zen Arado: just click on a dance ball :)
    Uns Mistwalker: hehehe Riddle.
    szavanna Resident: :)
    Zen Arado: :)
Uns Mistwalker: yup... don't have to work so hard to get in the mood.
    szavanna Resident: ...Weeeeee...Weee Weee Weeee...Weeeeee...
    szavanna Resident: like so
    szavanna Resident: ;D

    DJ feedback:

Zen Arado: but you don't get so much feedback
szavanna Resident: yes the trick is to listen to the audience
Zen Arado: (not that I have ever DJ'ed in RL0 but read about it
szavanna Resident: and find ways to intertain them
Zen Arado: but you can see the body language in RL
Zen Arado: people tapping their feet and looking happy etc
    szavanna Resident: welcome Phuocji °͜°
    Zen Arado: Hi Phuoc
szavanna Resident: we do that in local chat Zenji
szavanna Resident: we must make them talk in local chat
phuoc Resident: 's current display-name is "Phuoc Hanh".
Zen Arado: and people are often just being polite in SL I fear
szavanna Resident: so they should not be polite?
    phuoc Resident: hello everyone here...
    Riddle Sideways: Hi Phuoc
Zen Arado: most wouldn't say they don't like what you are playing
Uns Mistwalker: they can just leave!
Riddle Sideways: but quick to say what is liked
Zen Arado: it's not that...you just aren't sure if they are being truthful
szavanna Resident: it depends .... at PP we know each other
    Zen Arado: Hi Phuoc
Riddle Sideways: are you saying some in SL are not truthful :)
szavanna Resident: °͜° yes they are hiding their real feelings
phuoc Resident: hi Riddle, Hi Zen, Sza, DR, Uns
Uns Mistwalker: people indicate what they like in local, when they are excited.
Zen Arado: often I don't particularly like some music but don't say that, to be polite..so I assume others do the same?
DR42 Resident: Phouc, I think we have not met before, I am Marjorie Chardin, but please call me Maude.
szavanna Resident: yes people say something when they like what they hear
Zen Arado: we have to go with really good comments
    Zen Arado: I guess
phuoc Resident: ok Maude.. nice to meet you
szavanna Resident: yes good to focus on those and play songs based on that
Uns Mistwalker: Now seems a good time to say.... however --- that I dislike these gestures that show up and take up the screen with lines and lines of text.
Zen Arado: but so many people and so many different ages and from different countries
    Uns Mistwalker: yes, that's true.
szavanna Resident: what about my elephant one?
szavanna Resident: This is .... ELEPHANTASTIC !!
    szavanna Resident: _____
    szavanna Resident: / 0 \____
    szavanna Resident: / _ \__/ \
    szavanna Resident: / / \ ____ I \
    szavanna Resident: /_/ I I I I
    szavanna Resident: I__I I__I
    szavanna Resident: ;o)
Zen Arado: I am strange that I like so many different genres I think
Uns Mistwalker: love the sound.... hate the text.
    szavanna Resident: Para °͜°
    Uns Mistwalker: hi Para.
    szavanna Resident: hugs welcome °͜°
Zen Arado: lots just like music from the years when they were young?
    Riddle Sideways: hi Para
DR42 Resident: I block the people who play those gestures. It is terrible for those who use viewers like Radegast with text to speech engines.
    Zen Arado: era
    Zen Arado: Hi Para
Zen Arado: have you been here before Para?
Uns Mistwalker: I think we like what we've heard the most, and have associations with
szavanna Resident: I play them during DJ sessions
    phuoc Resident: hi Para
szavanna Resident: Zenji I explain to Para about PaB things
para Fayray: no, first time. thanks for inviting me
Uns Mistwalker: I love your ulullation one, Sunji.... great sound... not too much text.
phuoc Resident: mm thats an interesting point of view
    Uns Mistwalker: welcome Para
    phuoc Resident: Maude
Zen Arado: it's just we publish comments here on a Wiki and we need your permission to include your comments Para
    Zen Arado: is that ok?
Zen Arado: we have to ask everyone this
szavanna Resident: I am explaining her
    szavanna Resident: :)
szavanna Resident: ok she is ok with it Zenji
Uns Mistwalker: hi Juno. at a discussion of Music in sl.... wanna come?
    Uns Mistwalker: wrong window!
    szavanna Resident: giggles
    Zen Arado: :)
Zen Arado: do that all the time
    Zen Arado: ah great Para
    szavanna Resident: :)
DR42 Resident: Phouc, There are many people in SL with vision problems, among other things. They have to use text to speech engines. How objects are named and their descriptions are problems for them as well.
    phuoc Resident: ;)

szavanna Resident: oh ok Maude that is true
    szavanna Resident: hi San :)
phuoc Resident: yes exactly, it was I meant.. a different point of view not often perceived..
    Santoshima Resident: hello all
szavanna Resident: yes its so important to see things from many angles
Zen Arado: it is a great musical voyage of discovery for me DJ'ing
szavanna Resident: me tooooo I love it :)
phuoc Resident: me too.. I hadn't think about it before
    Riddle Sideways: gtsy Dan
szavanna Resident: anyone wants to learn?
Zen Arado: I was listening to World music this morning
    Riddle Sideways: San
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
    phuoc Resident: hi San
    Zen Arado: Hi San :)
Uns Mistwalker: I'm tryin' sunji....one step at a time..... almost ready to start makin' playlists.

Zen Arado: heh too many DJ's in SL already :)
Zen Arado: I'd love to try it in RL
    Zen Arado: but rather unlikely
Zen Arado: most use laptops these days hooked to a controller
DR42 Resident: Would there be a big investment in equipment for RL?
    Zen Arado: not really
Zen Arado: just controller interface and speakers
Zen Arado: is extra from SL
    Zen Arado: use same siftware
    Zen Arado: software
Zen Arado: siftware works too :)
    Zen Arado: sifting through music

    License issues:

DR42 Resident: A steep learning curve. How would you pay license fees?
    Zen Arado: what license fees?
Zen Arado: you buy your own music
Uns Mistwalker: I'm thinking about... "too many djs in sl".... seems to me like DJing is a form of expression...so the issue is whether people can relate to your taste and how you express it.
DR42 Resident: Don't you have to pay for use of commercial music in RL?
Zen Arado: what I mean is nearly more DJ's than people to listen :)
Zen Arado: but we can just take it in turns to DJ
    Zen Arado: :)
szavanna Resident: I think everyone can be a DJ - its could be just a basic skill for everyone
Zen Arado: I don't know Maude
phuoc Resident: its my child dream.. I do playlist on Blip and Spotify and share tunes with friends in RL too.. but never did true DJing.. maybe I'll try here, dunno yet :) but don't wanna improvise myself or making a job, just express maybe
para Fayray: depends on the place, zen ;)
Zen Arado: maybe if you play for really big crowds
szavanna Resident: SL you usually have small crowds
    Zen Arado: me too Uns
Zen Arado: I just started playing music for friends in SL when I found you could do that...just listening to music together
szavanna Resident: I remember when you started :)
Zen Arado: that is all it is basically
    szavanna Resident: yes
    Zen Arado: sharing music
Uns Mistwalker: I have had a lot of fun with a friend just trading songs back and forth.
DR42 Resident: Need to run, bye
    Santoshima Resident: bye maude
    szavanna Resident: take care Maude
    Uns Mistwalker: goodbye Maude.
    Zen Arado: kk byee Maude
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
    Zen Arado: ty for coming
para Fayray: being a good DJ means to make some people dance and feel good
    phuoc Resident: bye Maude
Santoshima Resident: your question didn't get answered, maude
    szavanna Resident: yes Para
    szavanna Resident: :)
Santoshima Resident: about royalties, and rights
Zen Arado: there is a lot of skill in that
Zen Arado: yeh I just don't know San
szavanna Resident: its a big topic San
    Santoshima Resident: worth investigating
Santoshima Resident: there are sl radio stations,
szavanna Resident: eventually its best to ask the artist
Santoshima Resident: wonder how they manage those issues
Zen Arado: if I ever started DJing in RL I would have to find out about it but that is unlikely
    szavanna Resident: to specify
Uns Mistwalker: I think that the issue is not so much a legal one -- we know the artists and recording companies want to be paid each time their music is played...
Riddle Sideways: radio stations and internet radio stations have to pay
para Fayray: in rl germany you have to pay for using music on open events
szavanna Resident: for example in SL I can ask some artists
para Fayray: there is an agenvy called GEMA
szavanna Resident: Jana Kyomoon says I can play her music anytime
szavanna Resident: Nnoiz Papp said - I should play is only after discussing with him first
szavanna Resident: some musicians publish music under open licenses
Zen Arado: it would take a long time asking all the artists though
    Santoshima Resident: yes
    szavanna Resident: of course
phuoc Resident: in RL I work with audiovisual products like documentaries, and the issue is big
szavanna Resident: its not realistic to ask the Beatles lol
szavanna Resident: yes it is a huge topic
phuoc Resident: we works a lot also with Creative Commons
Zen Arado: I'll ring Paul today :)
para Fayray: hahaha...well, some are still alive
szavanna Resident: the default is ...that all is copyrighted and you are not allowed to use it
Uns Mistwalker: You know, this topic is part of what Jarod Lanier talks about in his "Manifesto"
szavanna Resident: but that is very rigid
Zen Arado: so are we breaking the law playing music in SL?
    Santoshima Resident: good question
Uns Mistwalker: how the 'open culture' of the internet is destroying artsts.
Uns Mistwalker: and other creative types.
szavanna Resident: I think if we bought the music and we own it ...it should not be a problem to play to a group of 10 people
    szavanna Resident: or 20
Zen Arado: yeh but it still might not be strictly legal
phuoc Resident: strictly legally I think we break it every party we have
    szavanna Resident: yes
    Uns Mistwalker: http://www.amazon.com/You-Are-Not-Ga.../dp/0307389979
Uns Mistwalker: there are a host of problems that arise.

Santoshima Resident: needing to fly ~ bye
Uns Mistwalker: some artists that have their music online for a fee--- and get thousands of plays --- still end up with very little money in royalties.
    Uns Mistwalker: bye San
    szavanna Resident: take care San
    Zen Arado: kk byee San
    szavanna Resident: :)
    szavanna Resident: wb Phuocji
    Riddle Sideways: bye all
    Uns Mistwalker: goodbye Riddle.
    para Fayray: waves
    Zen Arado: wb Phuoc
    Zen Arado: byee Riddle
szavanna Resident: take care Riddleji :)
phuoc Resident: thanks sorry 2 sec power shortage
    szavanna Resident: :)
    Zen Arado: interesting book Uns
Uns Mistwalker: He is a musician himself.
Zen Arado: a young woman killed herself after internet bullying yesterday here in the UK
szavanna Resident: the founder of creative commons - Larry Lessig has a great talk about this
    szavanna Resident: omg
    szavanna Resident: what happened?
szavanna Resident: do you know her name in SL?
Uns Mistwalker: yes.... has happened here too... as well as after use of webcams.

    RL/SL distinctions:

Zen Arado: a reporter said something interesting about it...that young people don't have this binary distinction between offline and online that older people have
    szavanna Resident: ;(
Zen Arado: it is all real life
Uns Mistwalker: the famous suicide from SL was Carmen Montesserant
Zen Arado: it was from Twitter I think
    para Fayray: its very sad
    szavanna Resident: ;(
Zen Arado: older people told her to just switch off her phone
phuoc Resident: yes I read it.. and that is a true thing about the 2 worlds being the same
    Zen Arado: yes
    phuoc Resident: 2 levels, better..
    Zen Arado: hmm maybe
phuoc Resident: it happens in Italy too more and more
Uns Mistwalker: Well, see also the work of Sherri Turkle: "Alone Together"....
Zen Arado: I am starting to realize the way they are inextricably intertwined myself
phuoc Resident: just as fights following BB flames and so on
    phuoc Resident: FB*
Uns Mistwalker: our brains are not adapted to keep the distinctions clear.
Zen Arado: I asked myself the other day what I woiuld do with myself if no computer or internet
    Uns Mistwalker nods.
phuoc Resident smiles about the question..
para Fayray: its re-learnable to cope without
Zen Arado: my old hobbies wouldn't fill the gap easily
Uns Mistwalker: And the thing is..... use of computer and internet.... do seem to change personalities.
    Zen Arado: yeh maybe
para Fayray: as any addiction does
Zen Arado: like going back 20 years...
Zen Arado: I have friends think I spend too much time in here
    Uns Mistwalker: http://honourmcmillan.wordpress.com/...n-second-life/
Zen Arado: but it is my life situation
    Uns Mistwalker Nods.
phuoc Resident: I will read it Uns..
    Zen Arado: interesting Uns
Uns Mistwalker: we residents in SL are thinkin' about this stuff!
phuoc Resident: what do you answer them, shortly, Zen?
Zen Arado: imagine sitting in front of a TV all day
phuoc Resident: if I can ask..
Zen Arado: it's a waste of time trying to explain I have found
szavanna Resident: yes they have no clue ;p
szavanna Resident: it just seems weird
Uns Mistwalker: that's been my experience, too.
Zen Arado: SL is like a cat looking at a TV to some people
Zen Arado: it doesn't register or something
    szavanna Resident: lol
    szavanna Resident: yes it doesn't
    phuoc Resident: :)
para Fayray: well...balance is the magic word
Zen Arado: maybe we have a different type of brain :)
    szavanna Resident: yes mom ;D
    Zen Arado: :)
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
    para Fayray: pokes sza
phuoc Resident: I use that term too Para..
    szavanna Resident: giggles
Uns Mistwalker: I've heard of that word.
    Zen Arado: wags finger :)
phuoc Resident: even it can be subjective as Zen says
    szavanna Resident hides
szavanna Resident: yes but .... I love my club

    phuoc Resident smiles
    Zen Arado: :)
    szavanna Resident: Condor San
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
    szavanna Resident: hehe

szavanna Resident: welcome back to PaB
    CondorSun Resident: why thank you!
szavanna Resident: oh you are lost your parrot thingy
    szavanna Resident: *you lost
    CondorSun Resident: may I join?
    szavanna Resident: of course
Zen Arado feels like a teenager again listening to music all day :)
szavanna Resident: feel at home :)
    Zen Arado: Hi Condor
szavanna Resident: yes me too Zenji ;p
    CondorSun Resident: parrot?
    phuoc Resident: hi Condor, welcome
szavanna Resident: yes you used to have this parrot that repeated everything
Zen Arado: have you been here before Condor?
    CondorSun Resident bows
    CondorSun Resident: nope!
    szavanna Resident: _/\_
    CondorSun Resident: hello hello!
    szavanna Resident: hehe
Zen Arado: ( I am like a parrot)
    szavanna Resident: you are?
szavanna Resident: not really. not really.
phuoc Resident: I found a way to share thoughts and music here absolutely deeper than into some RL places :)
Zen Arado: we have to ask permission to post comments on a Wiki Condor..is that ok with you?
szavanna Resident: isn't it so Phuocji?
    Uns Mistwalker: I agree Phuoc.
szavanna Resident: the party last night was soo amazing
phuoc Resident: maybe I didn't find the right RL places tho
Uns Mistwalker: The obstacles RL are far more significant, I think.
phuoc Resident: but.. there's a focusing sometimes, due also to the limited tools we have
    phuoc Resident: yes sometimes
    Uns Mistwalker: geography, culture, language.
Zen Arado: oh Condor left again
phuoc Resident: the non verbal body language is limited here
    szavanna Resident: crashed I think
    phuoc Resident: mm
Uns Mistwalker: yes... and something different comes through our fingers as we type than through our voices when we speak.
phuoc Resident: and that can be a limit and a advantage sometimes
    phuoc Resident: to focus
Zen Arado: though we can use verbal cues to make up for it a lot
szavanna Resident: I'd like to use voice when I DJ
szavanna Resident: may be I could try to combine sl voice
Zen Arado: me too but feel shy about that
Uns Mistwalker: lots of people do, sunji.
    szavanna Resident: and stream
    phuoc Resident smiles
szavanna Resident: yes but I have no ways of doing that
Uns Mistwalker: Jini at the commune is doing it now.
    Uns Mistwalker: oh.
phuoc Resident: I hoped you would Zen..
szavanna Resident: I use auto DJ
    szavanna Resident: yes yes
Zen Arado: I can do it ok but never seem to need to
phuoc Resident: I was curious :)
    szavanna Resident: Zenji must!
szavanna Resident: it makes a huge difference
    szavanna Resident: for me
szavanna Resident: when I hear the DJ
Zen Arado: I don't like the sound of my own voice
    szavanna Resident: grrr
szavanna Resident: everyone else does hmm
    phuoc Resident: me too Zen..
    phuoc Resident: same problem..
para Fayray: all forms of life performance make a big difference#
phuoc Resident: as many.. its a good practice.. :)
    Uns Mistwalker: nods
    szavanna Resident: yes
Zen Arado: maybe can introduce myself for a start
szavanna Resident: it brings your listeners closer
    phuoc Resident: true
szavanna Resident: may be I can even record my voice
szavanna Resident: as a small file
Zen Arado: and say what I am going to play roughly
    para Fayray: nooo
Uns Mistwalker: yes, and helps them feel how you relate to the music.
    szavanna Resident: no?
    szavanna Resident: ok no
    szavanna Resident: ;p
    phuoc Resident: yes
para Fayray: you have to react
    phuoc Resident: ;)
    szavanna Resident: ok
para Fayray: to make it special
    szavanna Resident: hmm
Zen Arado: not too much speaking though
szavanna Resident: yes just a bit
    szavanna Resident: is ok
Zen Arado: let music do the talking
    para Fayray: *balance*
    Zen Arado: heh
    szavanna Resident: yes mommyyyy
    szavanna Resident: ;D
    phuoc Resident: right Para
    para Fayray: chuckles
Uns Mistwalker: At the big SL clubs.... they require the DJs to talk.... because it engages audience!
    szavanna Resident: ❤
szavanna Resident: she is so right
    Zen Arado: oh?
    phuoc Resident: yes, more RL..
Uns Mistwalker: Yeah, I was talking to a DJ at Ambrosia's...
Uns Mistwalker: they have like 60 people at a set...
szavanna Resident: I love to talk to the audience
Uns Mistwalker: DJ's have to talk.
szavanna Resident: even if its just a few people
    Zen Arado: maybe
phuoc Resident: many good DJ don't like this
phuoc Resident: like Fujiyama or Gino Aichi
Uns Mistwalker: I wouldn't want to use my voice.... at least not at first.
Zen Arado: maybe it is just hard breaking the ice
szavanna Resident: I could make a jingle with my voice
szavanna Resident: you are listening tooo.....Sunvibes radioooo
Zen Arado: can you make samples Sunji?
szavanna Resident: planetary jive sessionsss 24/7
    phuoc Resident: ehe
    szavanna Resident: hehe
    Zen Arado: he he
    szavanna Resident: samples?
    Uns Mistwalker: I'm forit!
    szavanna Resident: lol
Zen Arado: like little chunks out of songs
    szavanna Resident: ah yes
    szavanna Resident: hmm
para Fayray: well...i heard some drunk singers in sl giggling all the time and repeating what was typed in open chat...thats not very entertaining
szavanna Resident: that might take some time
    szavanna Resident: hehe
phuoc Resident: do you want us to do a huge multi-vocal presentation of your set Zen? :)
    Uns Mistwalker: Agreed Para.
    Zen Arado: :)
phuoc Resident: yes Para.. but thats not serious
Uns Mistwalker: Also possible.... Collaborative sets!
    szavanna Resident: :)
phuoc Resident: different voices.. and yours at the end..
szavanna Resident: we used to do DJ Jam at the commune
    phuoc Resident: :)
Zen Arado: we influence each other anyway
    szavanna Resident: ah nice Phuocji
Uns Mistwalker: I like that idea Phuoc.
    szavanna Resident: ...Weeeeee...Weee Weee Weeee...Weeeeee...
    phuoc Resident: :)
    szavanna Resident: :)
phuoc Resident: I'm in if you decide
    Zen Arado: :)
Uns Mistwalker shakes his head and laughs.
    szavanna Resident: ;D
    szavanna Resident: hmm great ideas
szavanna Resident: sorry I got excited ;p
    szavanna Resident: ignore me
    szavanna Resident: :)
phuoc Resident: no we can't :)
    para Fayray: looks puzzled
    szavanna Resident: ;D
Uns Mistwalker thinks.... glad Phuoc said that first.
    szavanna Resident looks puzzled too
Zen Arado: I watch video DJ tips on Youtube

    szavanna Resident: ah
    Zen Arado: learning a lot
szavanna Resident: oh guys do you use Google+?
szavanna Resident: I prefer it to FB
    para Fayray: none of it
szavanna Resident: and starting a sunvibes community there
Zen Arado: I am on it but don't use
phuoc Resident: I do not use FB so.. yes..
    szavanna Resident: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communit...14777362160974
szavanna Resident: please use it °͜°
Uns Mistwalker: Can we post things that aren't about African Music?
phuoc Resident: if you have some contributions to give pls do it! :) we still few.. ..
szavanna Resident: its fun and nicer
szavanna Resident: sunvibes is about music from all over the world
    szavanna Resident: mainly music
    szavanna Resident: but poetry, films
    phuoc Resident: but not only?
    szavanna Resident: creativity
szavanna Resident: I don't like categories
Zen Arado: I see Phuoc and Xirana
    szavanna Resident: but mainly music
szavanna Resident: not only from africa
szavanna Resident: show us your favourite songs
szavanna Resident: like my PaB session
    szavanna Resident: post it there
    para Fayray: looks nice
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
Uns Mistwalker: You know, I only listen to music when in SL.
    phuoc Resident: mm really?
    szavanna Resident: hmm why?
Uns Mistwalker: It is my sense that music..... in particular... commercial, recorded music...
    szavanna Resident: then post poems
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
Uns Mistwalker: is rather like very rich food....
Uns Mistwalker: it spoils the palatte (the ear).... for the subtle exquisite rhthyms and sounds of natural life.
    szavanna Resident: ok true
Uns Mistwalker: conditions us for the "spectacular"
Zen Arado: hmm never thought of that
    para Fayray: interesting point
szavanna Resident: I never listen to the usual stuff
szavanna Resident: but for me life is music
szavanna Resident: everything has a sound
Uns Mistwalker: Live music is different
    szavanna Resident: everything has color
    para Fayray: very true
phuoc Resident: yep I play percusions into the toilet..
szavanna Resident: taste, touch - texture
    phuoc Resident: mainly..
Zen Arado: perhaps it can make us more aurally aware too?
    szavanna Resident: hehe
Zen Arado: using our auditory faculy more
Uns Mistwalker: the other issue is that listening to commercial music...
Uns Mistwalker: i think encourages us to kind of "orchestrate'
phuoc Resident: mm dunno if I got it..
szavanna Resident: what do you mean
Uns Mistwalker: our feelings and our lives.... in such a way as to distance us somewhat from our own experience --- melding it into
Uns Mistwalker: the commercially produced... sentiments.
szavanna Resident: TV in general does that
    szavanna Resident: or mainstream media
Uns Mistwalker: Different media have different effects.
Zen Arado: I find lots of lyrics just trite
    szavanna Resident: I never listen
Uns Mistwalker: Just as Television teaches us to be bored....
szavanna Resident: but to me life is like a festival
Zen Arado: but I can see it does influence younger people
Uns Mistwalker: Social media teach us to be lonely.
szavanna Resident: the dogs already havea big concert outside lol
Zen Arado: I have sparrows cheeping all day :)
    szavanna Resident: :)
    phuoc Resident: :)
    szavanna Resident: cheep cheep
    szavanna Resident: isn't it chirp
    Uns Mistwalker: so lovely
    phuoc Resident: bad economy
Zen Arado: it's like a little sparrow aviary I have
    phuoc Resident: cheap cheap
Uns Mistwalker: brezze in the trees.
    szavanna Resident: hehe
    Uns Mistwalker: haha, phuoc!
szavanna Resident: does it really Uns
szavanna Resident: social media makes us lonely?
    Uns Mistwalker: hm?
Zen Arado: young sparrows being fed
    Uns Mistwalker: Yes.
    szavanna Resident: depends
    Zen Arado: yeh
Uns Mistwalker: One becomes conditioned to having 'connection'....
szavanna Resident: its just a tool
    Uns Mistwalker: all the time.....
Zen Arado: you might say that about the telephone too?
szavanna Resident: you can use it in many ways
    Zen Arado: or TV?
phuoc Resident: yes I think so Zen
phuoc Resident: my aunt was a telephone addicted
szavanna Resident: TV turns people into zombies
phuoc Resident: more than me on SL
    szavanna Resident: ;o)
Zen Arado: TV is a very lonelifying thing I think
    para Fayray: *balance*
    phuoc Resident: I'm serious..
Uns Mistwalker: Long discussion.... But in general...media have impacts on personality
    Uns Mistwalker: I'd agree Zen.....
Zen Arado: have I made up a new word ?
    Zen Arado: :0
szavanna Resident: on the phone all day?
    szavanna Resident: ah yes Zenji
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
    phuoc Resident: yes
    szavanna Resident: everything has influence
Uns Mistwalker: what is happening overall is that the number of people
Uns Mistwalker: we have in our lives... has gone WAY up.
Uns Mistwalker: But the relationships are more fragmentary.
Zen Arado: it depends on whether it makes you withdraw from people I think
para Fayray: that seems good to me, uns
Uns Mistwalker: It leads to a kind of fragmentation of self....
Zen Arado: I don't think of FB friends as all that real
szavanna Resident: hmm I have very little connections here in SA
Zen Arado: unless I know them in RL or SL
Uns Mistwalker: some social scientists call it "multiphrenia"
phuoc Resident: yes could be a problem Uns I think, but not to apply in general to the tools
szavanna Resident: I like to look at SL friends almost like RL friends
Uns Mistwalker: The issue, Para.... is that the relationships tend to be more one-dimensional.
szavanna Resident: that live in another town may be
    Zen Arado: hmm yes Sunji
para Fayray: ok...but its not to be blamed on the media
para Fayray: its how its used
Uns Mistwalker: The argument that 'it is only a tool".... I do not accept.
Uns Mistwalker: Again, read Jarod Lanier....
szavanna Resident: I don't just turn off the pc and forget about you Zenji
    szavanna Resident: hmm :)
    Zen Arado: oh :(
    szavanna Resident: impossible
Uns Mistwalker: he was waaaay into Virtual Reality.
Uns Mistwalker: I think of my SL friends in RL all the time.
    szavanna Resident: me too
    szavanna Resident: :)
Zen Arado: I see friends in SL much more often than RL friends..thay are all too busy

Uns Mistwalker: There is a difference between individual experiences and the overall trend, for sure.
    para Fayray: agree
szavanna Resident: hmm you know here - when people saw "internet cafe" outside the house - they wanted to come and buy washing powder
    szavanna Resident: lol
szavanna Resident: so no ways of finding SL friends in this town
Uns Mistwalker: For example.... early studies showed that Facebook created depression --- but later studies showed that it it merely exacerbated depression in those already prone to it.
Zen Arado: yes...I am more inclined to the 'tool' view
    szavanna Resident: yes
Uns Mistwalker: But that is the issue.... all tech... magnifies certain aspects of our being.... with consequences we may not anticipate.
szavanna Resident: its like telephone - a tool
Zen Arado: anything can have good and bad consequences
    szavanna Resident: yes Zenji
Zen Arado: and maybe we learn to adapt around the new tech?
Uns Mistwalker: We are definitely changing.
Zen Arado: like he car changed people's whole way of living
para Fayray: for example i have learned a lot fluid english while chatting in sl
Zen Arado: the whole American society is built around the car
Uns Mistwalker: attention spans going down.... capacity for deep reflective thought decreasing--- while ability to quickly scan info and make quick decisions... is going way up.
Zen Arado: and same in other countries
    Zen Arado: good point Uns
para Fayray: Uns, i think sp
    Uns Mistwalker: See: Nicholas Carr:
    Uns Mistwalker: http://www.amazon.com/The-Shallows-I.../dp/0393339750
Zen Arado: I saw a documentary about young people in first year in collega and being astonished they had to read a book...a whole book
    Uns Mistwalker: Yes.
szavanna Resident: I don't think we are being shallow here
Zen Arado: but we have read books
szavanna Resident: I don't like to be shallow ...I just leave
Zen Arado: funny but latelt I don't feel like reading so muc
Uns Mistwalker: this is what Carr noticed about himself, too.
szavanna Resident: nothing wrong with that
Zen Arado: maybe I am being affected..
Uns Mistwalker: measured effects show up in the brain within two weeks.
szavanna Resident gives Zenji an pro-reading injection
    Zen Arado: :)
    szavanna Resident: ;o)
Zen Arado: goes back to Jeff Foster book
szavanna Resident: I am in Africa ...lots people have no electricity
    Zen Arado: closes Spotify
    szavanna Resident: ;D
szavanna Resident: I was reading Jeff today!
    szavanna Resident: on my phone
Uns Mistwalker: I'm listening to the Grateful Dead.
    Zen Arado: yay
    szavanna Resident: °͜°
szavanna Resident: hmm I better go fix the fire
    szavanna Resident: in RL
szavanna Resident: and say hello to the trees
    szavanna Resident: :)
Zen Arado: I listen to his videos on Yotube
    Uns Mistwalker grins.
Zen Arado: yes I better go too
szavanna Resident: you can post them for me on my google +
Zen Arado: thanks everyone for coming
szavanna Resident: I will mommy ;))
    Uns Mistwalker: thank you all.
    szavanna Resident: hugs guys
szavanna Resident: it was so fun ty Zenji
    Zen Arado: hugs
szavanna Resident: hope to see you again Para
    szavanna Resident: at PaB also
