Bleu Oleander: hi Eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Hello Bleu :)
Eliza Madrigal: for some reason my setting is strange today... don't see cushions until one sits
Bleu Oleander: yes SL has been acting strange for me too
Bleu Oleander: sent them a note and they fixed my home sim
Eliza Madrigal: oh, good. I think Zen was having issues too
Bleu Oleander: so maybe some problems all around?
Eliza Madrigal: maybe so
Eliza Madrigal: glad you made it though!
Bleu Oleander: haha yes!
Bleu Oleander: couldn't tp to my sim
Bleu Oleander: kept throwing me to other areas lol
Eliza Madrigal: well... a way to meet new avatars, hah
Bleu Oleander: indeed
Bleu Oleander: although not too friendly :)
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bleu Oleander: combative actually lol
Eliza Madrigal: some of those areas can be
Bleu Oleander: reminded of being a newbie
Eliza Madrigal: yes... and what people might find if they sign on at one's suggestion
Bleu Oleander: exactly
Bleu Oleander: so related a bit to this week's topic?
Eliza Madrigal: was thinking that too
Bleu Oleander: the newbie experience might actually destroy the motivation haha
Eliza Madrigal: indeed, unless someone is lucky enough to stumble on something like PaB
Bleu Oleander: yes, although one can hit a not so good PaB experience as well?
Eliza Madrigal: very true
Eliza Madrigal: or at least a confusing one
Bleu Oleander: so the stars need to be aligned :)
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Bleu Oleander: so how does one stay motivated might be a question?
Bleu Oleander: or ... how can one re-motivate oneself?
Eliza Madrigal: that's related to what I was pondering before you arrived... that I am not sure I have an adequate answer... has changed over time.. re why PaB
Bleu Oleander: yes for me too ... having issues in general with SL motivation also
Eliza Madrigal: at first it was fascination.. thinking in a way I'd never thought before
Eliza Madrigal: maybe a "dark night of the avatar soul"
Bleu Oleander: yes for me too
Eliza Madrigal: then it was community I think, joy in a shared project
Bleu Oleander: I don't think of it as a project now really, do you?
Eliza Madrigal: lately it is difficult to
Bleu Oleander: yes, that aspect has changed lately for me
Bleu Oleander: perhaps a change in those involved
Eliza Madrigal: what do you notice mainly?
Bleu Oleander: well .... seems more like a social gathering of friends to chat
Bleu Oleander: which is nice
Bleu Oleander: but not project-like for me
Eliza Madrigal: yes
Bleu Oleander: I don't come as much partly due to RL constraints
Bleu Oleander: so I don't feel I know many of the participants
Bleu Oleander: estranged is perhaps too strong, but some distance has developed in a way
Eliza Madrigal: ah... we do have a few new and interesting participants
Bleu Oleander: yes I'm sure
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Zon :)
Bleu Oleander: but I just haven't been in as much
Bleu Oleander: hi Zon
Eliza Madrigal: I'm here less as well... combination of RL and also not lost place but hm
Eliza Madrigal: at some point the challenge of the group seemed to be sort of commanding
Bleu Oleander: yes
Eliza Madrigal: so maybe one question is whether these are signs of need for reinvention... whether that's possible or wanted by the whole
Bleu Oleander: had a lab-like quality to it in the begining for me
Zon Kwan: heya
Eliza Madrigal: definitely
Bleu Oleander: or re-motivation?
Eliza Madrigal: yes :) I wonder
Eliza Madrigal: even just the question is a bit invigorating
Bleu Oleander: yes questions often invigorate
Bleu Oleander: so perhaps timely topics?
Eliza Madrigal: I think so
Eliza Madrigal: it is natural that things change over time
Bleu Oleander: perhaps also a question to take up for the WG?
Bleu Oleander: yes change is good many times
Eliza Madrigal: I wonder... one thing I was remembering
Eliza Madrigal: was the way Pema would send emails to the group occasionally
Bleu Oleander: yes, I hardly get any emails these days
Eliza Madrigal: they would have what he was up to, but also some ideas that would get us talking
Bleu Oleander: yes, perhaps a feeling of being leaderless? :)
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: in theory any of us could do that and sometimes we do with articles but hm... yes
Eliza Madrigal: and yet Pema never wanted to be a "leader" I guess... not in a forever sense
Bleu Oleander: perhaps "exploration of reality" needs some kind of roadmap or guide?
Eliza Madrigal: partly "why WG"... maybe that side of the coin is less graspable
Bleu Oleander: or at the very least some sense of progress maybe?
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Maude :)
DR42 Resident: Hi
Bleu Oleander: hi M :)
Bleu Oleander: not sure if you're Maude or Marjorie or both :)
Eliza Madrigal: vision
DR42 Resident: Maude, by any other name, still has the Unique ID of dr42.
Bleu Oleander: :)
Eliza Madrigal: :) Bleu and I have been talking about the project of PaB
Eliza Madrigal: as a newcomer I'd love to hear your impression of the group
Eliza Madrigal: and motivation here
Bleu Oleander: me too
DR42 Resident: My title for the week is "Low Expectations" :)
Eliza Madrigal: oh goodness
Bleu Oleander: interesting ....
Eliza Madrigal is afraid to say "say more?"
Bleu Oleander: :)
DR42 Resident: Not that I have low expectations of PaB, because I don't.
DR42 Resident: Diverse skills, interests, common threads with many people, and better educated than most groups I have found in SL.
DR42 Resident: But, SL is a self selecting set for education level, IMHO.
Eliza Madrigal: Eos calls PaB a "strange attractor" of interesting people, which seems true
Bleu Oleander: :)
DR42 Resident: I would concur.
DR42 Resident: Even language here is "different". I find people to be more mentally stimulating than other groups I have been in within the SL environment.
DR42 Resident: Hence, my motivation for returning.
DR42 Resident: How is that?
Bleu Oleander: that's nice actually
Eliza Madrigal: :) thank you... inspiring to hear
Bleu Oleander: yes
DR42 Resident: I used to hang out with the 4chan folks, you know of them?
Bleu Oleander: no
Eliza Madrigal: hm, I haven't heard of them
DR42 Resident: "Anonymous", the one in the news.
Eliza Madrigal: ah
DR42 Resident: I used to picket Scientology, and got to know a number of the Anonymous people.
Eliza Madrigal: so much happens in SL :)
Bleu Oleander: r u talking about sl or rl groups?
DR42 Resident: One of my AVs was named "Barbara Schwarz", an infamous Scientologist.
DR42 Resident: rl.
Bleu Oleander: ah ok
DR42 Resident: But there are a number of them active in SL as well.
Bleu Oleander: the founder of Scientology lived in Phoenix
DR42 Resident: For a time, yes, but mostly in the L.A. area. L. Ron.
Eliza Madrigal: I would imagine those were vigorous discussions (Anonymous)
Bleu Oleander: yes, his home is a museum here I think
--BELL--
DR42 Resident: They have a "ranch" out in the desert that is a huge vault where they store all their "secrets".
Eliza Madrigal: all of ours are in the wiki ^^
Bleu Oleander: :)
DR42 Resident: Hence, we have none.
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Bleu and I were remembering a time when things were a bit more focused here - group explorations on the nature of reality
Bleu Oleander: perhaps you can only take so much looking into reality .... haha
Eliza Madrigal laughs
DR42 Resident: Yes, I have tried to re-direct discussions in a more focused direction in the last week. I think it would be a good thing, But, maybe, it is simply the swing of the pendulum.
Bleu Oleander: kinda a bottomless pit in a way
Bleu Oleander: yes swings indeed
Eliza Madrigal: yes... that's kind of the larger question. It is impossible and not a good idea probably, to go "back" and yet...
Eliza Madrigal: there is also the desire for challenge I guess
Bleu Oleander: yes, keeping things fresh
DR42 Resident: Well, that was (is) an attraction. If the discussions are not focused, you will attract a different ilk of people.
Bleu Oleander: yes certain expectations if violated might turn some away perhaps?
Bleu Oleander: at the same time attract others
DR42 Resident wonders how many time someone has used "ilk" in an actual discussion in the last decade.
Bleu Oleander: lol
Eliza Madrigal: lol
Eliza Madrigal nods... well I'm glad we are talking about it anyway
Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: talk is good
Bleu Oleander: so motivation and intention being themes might inspire more conversation and lead to some interesting directions perhaps
DR42 Resident: I certainly hope so. However, I would be happy that Music Monday continue.
Eliza Madrigal: hope so... it is often energizing to hear other angles... see with fresh eyes
Bleu Oleander: hmm not sure I could put my motivation into words atm though
Eliza Madrigal: you have a week, haha
Bleu Oleander: I have the intention to come but not sure why ..... haha ... two weeks :)
Eliza Madrigal giggles
DR42 Resident: The two are tightly linked.
Bleu Oleander: well must go pickup my pup ... had two teeth pulled today :(
DR42 Resident: Ow.
Eliza Madrigal: yikes
DR42 Resident: Lots of love....
Bleu Oleander: nice conversation ... thank you both
Eliza Madrigal: hugs to pup
DR42 Resident: Safe travels.
Bleu Oleander: look forward to hearing/reading more
Eliza Madrigal: thank you for coming Bleu
Bleu Oleander: ok bye for now :)
DR42 Resident: Sorry for being late, I had only just arrived home and put the groceries away.
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, no worries. I really needed to shop today but took a long nap
Eliza Madrigal: so I'll have to go soon to pull together something creative
DR42 Resident: Home made Pizza for me.
Eliza Madrigal: nice.. you know who else makes that... Storm
Eliza Madrigal: for a while people were sharing recipes in a list called pab cafe
Eliza Madrigal: but then tapered out
DR42 Resident: During my mid-life crisis, I almost packed up and went to school at the CIA.
--BELL--
Eliza Madrigal: a reinvention
DR42 Resident: Culinary Institute of America.
Eliza Madrigal: have you ever thought of writing a food blog?
DR42 Resident: Yes, but my knowledge lacks in some huge areas of the art.
Eliza Madrigal: almost nicer that way...sharing experiments and mistakes
DR42 Resident: I don't know enough to know what I don't know. But, I have passion.
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: I learned recently that my lack of joy around cooking had to do with lack of appreciation from others... that when my kids began to help in the kitchen more it became more fun
Eliza Madrigal: seems a simple thing, but that's what life is made of
DR42 Resident: I have little desire to cook for myself, but I enjoy making meals that others enjoy.
Eliza Madrigal: yes its very social
DR42 Resident: I used to get together with friends every year for thanksgiving and we would make about 250-300 meals from scratch for all the seniors in town. With delivery, if they needed it. All free, with donations.
Eliza Madrigal: wow!
Eliza Madrigal: that's beautiful
Eliza Madrigal: friends from church?
DR42 Resident: The local elementary schools would have place mat making projects. No, Actually, a bunch of us from a local bar.
Eliza Madrigal: I love that idea
DR42 Resident: We got the restaurant owner to let us use his dining room on the one day he was closed.
Eliza Madrigal: people can do a lot together when motivated :)
DR42 Resident: Yes, once it started, we got more and more people offering donations and help. To the point of a group in another town starting up their project based on what we were doing. (with a bit of help from us.) Astounding what a bunch of bar flies and drunks can do. :)
Eliza Madrigal: haha...
Eliza Madrigal: I think people are innately generous but often not aware of what they have to give
Eliza Madrigal: I should go figure out dinner
Eliza Madrigal: was nice to see you for a bit
DR42 Resident: kk, I have to go carmalize onions.
DR42 Resident: and roast the red peppers.
Eliza Madrigal: mmmmmm
Eliza Madrigal: OMGoodness
Eliza Madrigal: :) Happy Pizza
DR42 Resident: ty, have a wonderfuil night
Eliza Madrigal: you too
