    Lucinda Lavender: Hi Steve!
    Lucinda Lavender: Happy friday!
stevenaia Michinaga: thanks, I'm coming off a bad cold, hopefully It'll be gone tomorrow
stevenaia Michinaga: may not be talkative
    Lucinda Lavender: yes...fine...
stevenaia Michinaga: but I can listen
Lucinda Lavender: I am writing an email as I sit here but am happy to set it aside
Lucinda Lavender: I am writing about the meaning of a color sphere...
stevenaia Michinaga: no, feel free to continue
    stevenaia Michinaga: which sphere
Lucinda Lavender: the violet sphere is about ceremony and architecture
stevenaia Michinaga: scratches head, pls go on
Lucinda Lavender: and Eliza asked me why I chose the name lavender...so I had to look this up
Lucinda Lavender: light organizes itself in to building blocks of form...the violet sphere is the grouping together of molecules becoming more complex
Lucinda Lavender: and this is the sphere of right relationship...
stevenaia Michinaga: I still enjoy spending time in your galactic cube
Lucinda Lavender: brings order out of chaos
    Lucinda Lavender: please do
Lucinda Lavender: I feel curiously contained there
    Lucinda Lavender: tea?
    Lucinda Lavender: for colds...
stevenaia Michinaga: where is this sphere?
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
    Lucinda Lavender: don't know

stevenaia Michinaga: been drinking alot of tea
    Lucinda Lavender: I bet
    Lucinda Lavender: I do to
Lucinda Lavender: I wish I could tell you where...
Lucinda Lavender: it maybe just a theoretical idea
Lucinda Lavender: but I enjoy looking for meaning with it...
Lucinda Lavender: today I went for a walk and found a Buzz Lightyear
    Lucinda Lavender: in a box
    stevenaia Michinaga: I saw :)
Lucinda Lavender: of old tossed things
    Lucinda Lavender: cool:)
Lucinda Lavender: my boss had been thinking we could use one
Lucinda Lavender: we sometimes run around these things(game)
    Lucinda Lavender: or draw them
Lucinda Lavender: or write stories about them
Lucinda Lavender: and I had said I would keep my eyes peeled as they say...
Lucinda Lavender: so I took him on the walk, and I took his picture doing different things. Light was beginning to go tho.
    Lucinda Lavender: Hi Solobill!
Lucinda Lavender: I was typing and did not notice...
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Solo
Lucinda Lavender: Solo have you been here before..

Alfred Kelberry: it says the owner is moon fargis, don't know him
Alfred Kelberry: luci, you host this session?
Lucinda Lavender: I think he comes here during the night...
Lucinda Lavender: yes I attempt it...
Alfred Kelberry: oh... moon, that's right :)
Alfred Kelberry: i see adams on the map
Alfred Kelberry: must be in the art museum
Lucinda Lavender: do you mean that you found someone elses tail?
stevenaia Michinaga: it's an onigokko tail
Lucinda Lavender: afraid I do not see it...
Alfred Kelberry: yes, it's right by the fountain
    stevenaia Michinaga: onigokko
    Lucinda Lavender: ah
    stevenaia Michinaga: stop
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    Lucinda Lavender: ok
    Alfred Kelberry: here
stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps you need one Luci

    Alfred Kelberry: yay, solo! :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: yeah
    Lucinda Lavender: nice
    Solobill Laville: Hi folks :)
    Lucinda Lavender: Hi Solobill
Solobill Laville: Nice to meet you Lucinda
    Lucinda Lavender: Yes:)
Alfred Kelberry: i thought you maybe meditating, solo :)
Lucinda Lavender: may be we live in the same quadrant of the us
Solobill Laville: Not meditating, drinking a Boston Cooler, now tea :)
Alfred Kelberry: or same parcel of the sim :)
Alfred Kelberry: ah, tea is good
    Alfred Kelberry: i'm having sencha
    Lucinda Lavender: nice
Solobill Laville: (Boston Cooler = Vernors + vanilla ice cream) :))
    Alfred Kelberry: sounds yummy :)
    Lucinda Lavender: sounds interesting:)
Solobill Laville: Very tasty, now Chamomille :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernors
stevenaia Michinaga: everything has a Wiki page it would seem
Alfred Kelberry: "Vernors ginger ale shares the title of America's oldest surviving soft drink with Hires Root Beer. It was invented in 1866 by James Vernor, a Detroit pharmacist."
Solobill Laville: Yes, Vernors is a Detroit classic
    Lucinda Lavender: Yum
    Alfred Kelberry: stev, true :)
Alfred Kelberry: if it's not on wiki, it doesn't exist :)
    Lucinda Lavender: sounds delicious
Solobill Laville: And medicinal, helps to settle the stomach
    Lucinda Lavender: nodding
    Lucinda Lavender: herbal in taste?
    --BELL--
Solobill Laville: Strong "nose"...can make you sneeze! hehe
    Lucinda Lavender: ha
Alfred Kelberry: "deliciously different" - i like this motto :)
Lucinda Lavender: I like those kinds of things...
Solobill Laville: It is that too, deliciously different :)
Lucinda Lavender: this is making me thirsty for tea or something
Alfred Kelberry: the story of the drink invention is pretty, too :)
    Solobill Laville: Ginger?
    Lucinda Lavender: like ginger
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
    Solobill Laville nods
    Alfred Kelberry: vernors
Lucinda Lavender: all the foods that include it...warming
Lucinda Lavender: I will be going to get a movie in a bit...does anyone have a suggestion?
    Solobill Laville: not me, sorry
Alfred Kelberry: vernor was experimenting with taste to replicate ginger ale from Dublin, then was drafted to war, 4 years later he was back and found his drink in an oak cask turned "deliciously different" :)
Lucinda Lavender: have not watched one in a while...not sure what to look for..
    Solobill Laville: :)
    Lucinda Lavender: interesting Alfred.
Lucinda Lavender: there is much experimentation with liquids in my household.
Lucinda Lavender: Nettle, Beet, Carrot, Apple etc
Lucinda Lavender: oak bring certain flavor...
Solobill Laville: So, I've been away for awhile, what is the pulse of happenings in PaB?
Lucinda Lavender: There is an art Show that has been created over in the dome area
Alfred Kelberry: wait, i missed, did someone say he's going to a movie in a bit?
Lucinda Lavender: about time and it 's puzzles
Lucinda Lavender: that is me Alfred
    Alfred Kelberry: ah, what movie?
Lucinda Lavender: I wanted to know if anyone had seen one they liked...
Lucinda Lavender: I have to pick the video
stevenaia Michinaga: there is a session pema is leading on Time on friday 6:00AM
Alfred Kelberry: luci, people say inception is really good
stevenaia Michinaga: where have you been?
Lucinda Lavender: may have to wait to see it on video...
Alfred Kelberry: you may also like eat, pray, love
    Lucinda Lavender: ok
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
    Lucinda Lavender: curious too Solo
Alfred Kelberry: oh, you mean something on dvd already?
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
Solobill Laville: > Steve - too busy in RL, economy, job change, etc.
    stevenaia Michinaga: busy is good
stevenaia Michinaga: new job always interesting
Solobill Laville: Well, busy "is"...but I know what you mean :)
    Lucinda Lavender: yes..takes energy
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Alfred Kelberry: steve? you mean stevenaia?
    Solobill Laville: yes, sorry, Al
stevenaia Michinaga: I mean my perceptions of such things in my life
Alfred Kelberry: luci, how about little miss sunshine? a cute movie :)
    Lucinda Lavender: thanks Alfred!
Alfred Kelberry: stev, well, i hope it's all for the better for you :)
Solobill Laville: Ah yes, that what I was thinking, I was working for a company that was slowly going out of business at a significant pay cut, so, busy and not so good, but now much better!
stevenaia Michinaga: I was referring to solobill, perhaps I am confused
Lucinda Lavender: Solobill, wondering at the stress of that...
Solobill Laville: I'm with you Stevenaia
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Solobill Laville: Yes, stress is there, but I've usually done pretty well with stress - at least to my own perception of it that is!
    Lucinda Lavender: :)
Solobill Laville: (which could be way off)
Alfred Kelberry: solo, you're with us and smiling, so everything is fine :)
    Solobill Laville: :) Ah yes
Lucinda Lavender: having quiet time is pretty necessary for me.
Alfred Kelberry: *and* you drink vernors! :)
    Solobill Laville: ;)
    Lucinda Lavender: :))
Lucinda Lavender: I think I will look for that at the store too.:)
Solobill Laville: Yes, quiet time is important for me too Lucinda
    --BELL--
Alfred Kelberry: luci, even most extroverted ones need quiet time - sleep for example :)
Lucinda Lavender: the quiet keeps flowing through the whole day but kind of lowlevel
    Lucinda Lavender: yes
Alfred Kelberry: introverts need quiet time (to be alone) to recharge social batteries :)
Lucinda Lavender: I will have to bid you all adeiu...and hope you all have a peaceful evening...will post later
    Solobill Laville: bye :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye lucinda
Alfred Kelberry: thanks, luci - enjoy the movie :)
    Lucinda Lavender: thanks...:)
    Alfred Kelberry: oh... hi, edwinly
Alfred Kelberry: come out here :)
Solobill Laville: So how have you been, Steve?
stevenaia Michinaga: been good, although I have a bad head cold at the moment
Solobill Laville: Ugh, sorry, I hope the tea helps
stevenaia Michinaga: I think I need something stronger than tea
Solobill Laville: Mmmm...I hear you, some of those decongestants really do a number on my
    Solobill Laville: *me
stevenaia Michinaga: nods, was thinking about a scotch :)
Solobill Laville: hehe, "old school" medicine ;)
    Solobill Laville: Hope it helps
    stevenaia Michinaga: head cloudy
    Solobill Laville: Mmmm...sorry
    Alfred Kelberry: *back*
    Solobill Laville: wb Alfred
    Alfred Kelberry: *hugs stev*
    Solobill Laville: :)
Alfred Kelberry: ok, now your head will be fine in a minute :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: /hugs alfred
    stevenaia Michinaga: hmm , good
Solobill Laville: So is Pema's Time session weekly, or a one off?
stevenaia Michinaga: ongoing, there qare several "chapters" of a book he is in the process of writing on the wiki
stevenaia Michinaga: I am trying to keep pace with it
Solobill Laville: Do you have the new url by chance?
    Solobill Laville: of the wiki?
    stevenaia Michinaga: one moment
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://wiki.playasbeing.org/PaB_Books
Solobill Laville: Einstein had said that time is what allows anything to happen at all. Love Einstein.
    Solobill Laville: thx
stevenaia Michinaga: the chapters take on a very nice journey of exploration of time
stevenaia Michinaga: not in the usual sense. ofcourse :)
    Solobill Laville: :)
Solobill Laville: "Each moment a new world appears."
Solobill Laville: There, Pema dropped it on us in the second sentence. :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I remember once I think in 5th or 6th grade doing a research paper on time only to find out there's really isn't;t much out there... became a paper on calendars and time measurements throughout , well, time :)
Solobill Laville: hehe. And how would you do now?
    --BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: hardly got to the core definition of what hasn't really even been defined even today
    stevenaia Michinaga: of time
stevenaia Michinaga: the proverbial elephant in the room
Solobill Laville: yes. It can be like the mirror in Harry Potter Sorcerer's Stone. Remember that?
    stevenaia Michinaga: thinks
    stevenaia Michinaga: don't remember
stevenaia Michinaga: what did it show
Solobill Laville: We can become beguiled by the 'thing' we think it is, or what we want to think about. Then we lose the reason why we were thinking about time in the first place.
Solobill Laville: It showed what we wanted to see...
Alfred Kelberry: solo, you reminded me... i like the notion of oneself to reappear as new each time frame. so, stev would think about time differently a second ago than now :)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, there is time, then there is the "moment", each unique
Alfred Kelberry: each frame is either a renewal of self or branching :)
Solobill Laville: except that there are all sorts of attachments between the 'frames' so to speak...
Alfred Kelberry: yes, and they also renew... our senses of them
    Alfred Kelberry: fluctuating
stevenaia Michinaga: the wind can change in a moment
Solobill Laville: yes, but I think there are two primary views therein. One is through thought, one is through experiencing. The latter leads to appreciation, which is a key component I think.
    Alfred Kelberry: hmm
Solobill Laville: I'm not a big fan of 'thinking' about time.
    Solobill Laville: - Personally - :)
Alfred Kelberry: isn't a thought also experience?
Solobill Laville: no. though you can think later about experience.
Solobill Laville: It's the difference about thinking about experience while you experience it, versus being 'in' the experience itself, if that makes any sense.
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello ALex
    Alexis Sommerfeld: Hi.
    Alexis Sommerfeld smiles.
    Solobill Laville smiles to Alexis
    Alfred Kelberry: solo, right
    Alfred Kelberry: oi, alexis
stevenaia Michinaga: have you been here before, Alexis
Solobill Laville: Also should note Pema's first sentence - "Time is a mystery." ;)
Alexis Sommerfeld: I have been here once or twice.
Solobill Laville notes Alex's Zen Retreat tag :)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, a good place to begin a journey to understanding
    Alexis Sommerfeld: Here?
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
Alexis Sommerfeld: I began my journey to understanding with Buddha.
    Alexis Sommerfeld: But thank you.
stevenaia Michinaga: we record our dialogues here, would it be ok to include your comments?
Alexis Sommerfeld: Oh, of course, as long as you aren't too embarrassed by my sometimes-silly behavior.
    Solobill Laville: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: we post all sessions on the groups Wiki
    Alfred Kelberry: *acts silly*
Alexis Sommerfeld: Awesome, well I hope that I can contribute to the group wisdom.
stevenaia Michinaga: thank you, we always ask for permission
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Alfred Kelberry: so, it's ok :)
    Solobill Laville: Nice, Al
    Solobill Laville: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: there are many years of sessions posted on our Wiki, we meet 4x a day, see the attached notecard
Alexis Sommerfeld: I love the premise of your group.
    stevenaia Michinaga: ......smiles
Alexis Sommerfeld: Do many of you meditate?
    Solobill Laville nods
    --BELL--
Alfred Kelberry: *sips a cup of sencha*
Alexis Sommerfeld: I think meditation is a great way to gain clarity, focus, and insight.
Alexis Sommerfeld: Even if you are not a Buddhist.
Alexis Sommerfeld: But meditation is not easy.
stevenaia Michinaga: meditation is many thing to different people
Solobill Laville: What is your personal experience with meditation, Alex, was/is it a rewarding journey?
    Alfred Kelberry: *nods to stev*
Solobill Laville: Yes, and there are *many* different takes on it
Solobill Laville: I practice Zazen - primarily concentration meditation
Alfred Kelberry: solo, that's what i like about it... there's no rigid rules or expected behavior
Alexis Sommerfeld: My own experiences with meditation has been with insight meditation, practiced in the zazen technique.
Solobill Laville: Yes, depends on what you *sign up* for though, each school or temple has its preference and expertise
Alfred Kelberry: same here (zazen). i specifically like zen for its practicality.
Alexis Sommerfeld: they all rely on the same precepts, the same wisdom
Alexis Sommerfeld: no matter the local dialect, all schools of Buddhism point to the wisdom of the Buddha
stevenaia Michinaga: as a non-meditator, can you elaborate
Alfred Kelberry: solo, yes, and there are *many* to choose from :)
    Alexis Sommerfeld: on meditation?
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: doesn't zazen focus on a koan?
    Alexis Sommerfeld: No.
    Alexis Sommerfeld: Not always.
    Solobill Laville nods
Alexis Sommerfeld: Meditation is about becoming aware of specifically and exactly what you are doing...
Alexis Sommerfeld: so that you can be "mindful" of your actions.
Alexis Sommerfeld: you train this by first becoming specifically aware of something as simple as your breathing
Alexis Sommerfeld: this is not as easy as it sounds
Alexis Sommerfeld: let's go through a simple meditation exercise.
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, in Tai Chi we do that
Solobill Laville smiles at Alexis' 140 / minute typing kung fu skills!
Alexis Sommerfeld: imagine that you have to monitor your breathing, and be aware of each inhalation, and each exhalation.
    Alfred Kelberry: solo :)
    Alexis Sommerfeld: but
Alexis Sommerfeld: you can't actually force or control your breathing
Alexis Sommerfeld: it's not as easy as it seems
Alexis Sommerfeld: you have to breath naturally, while observing yourself breathing naturally
stevenaia Michinaga: breath can be a wonderful timekeeper of actions and thoughts
Alfred Kelberry: i don't think of easy or hard when i meditate. i just... let it happen.
Solobill Laville: Focusing on the breath is a bridge, or a ladder, scaffold, to rein in our thoughts
Solobill Laville: And also an organic way to remind us we are in a body, and not all disembodied thought-stuff :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: but that's the basics of meditation, the beginning of a long journey of self discovery.
Alexis Sommerfeld: understanding your reality starts this way
Alexis Sommerfeld: understanding what you are really doing, and not what you think that you are doing.
Alexis Sommerfeld: there are so many distortions, by ego, prejudice, preconception, that fog our view of reality
Alexis Sommerfeld: meditation makes us focus and understand precisely what we are doing
Alexis Sommerfeld: we start with the breath, and from those skills continue our awareness
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: wow I never really thought of myself as a teacher, I'm glad to share what little knowledge I have.
    Solobill Laville: :)
Alfred Kelberry: thank you, alexis :)
Solobill Laville: We were talking about time just before you arrived.
Alexis Sommerfeld: I am sorry to interrupt, a thousand apologies.
    --BELL--
Solobill Laville: with a capital T...no, just mentioning where we were at prior :)
Solobill Laville: Conversation follows its own course, of course
    Solobill Laville: :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: And, yes, thank you, I have mad typing skills. I'm a savant in that regard - I was typing 40 words a minute when I first touched a typewriter
stevenaia Michinaga: the pleasures of this place
Alfred Kelberry: yes, solo. as everything is transient, it's not really an interruption, but a natural flow :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: I take great pleasure in this kind of exchange.
Alexis Sommerfeld: Alfred, you are right, nothing is permanent, everythign changes.
Solobill Laville: So, you've actually touched a typewriter...careful, you're dating yourself! hehe...I had one in college, had its own auto-erase, a useful feature ;)
stevenaia Michinaga: something that was intended
Alfred Kelberry: i must note, not a single typo, alexis! :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: oh I have had a few, my friend :)
    Alfred Kelberry: ok, i haven't noticed :)
    Alexis Sommerfeld smiles.
Alexis Sommerfeld: I was a medical transcriptionist for a while.
Alexis Sommerfeld: but back on topic...
Alfred Kelberry: question, though... is it better to type faster but with typos or slower but neatly? :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: Time. With a capital T.
Alexis Sommerfeld: with word processors, type fast with typos. On a typewriter, accuracy counts.
Alfred Kelberry: um, i choose the latter :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I do both, type fast with many errors :)
    Solobill Laville: hehe
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: Time...time is an illusion. Lunchtime, doubly so.
Alfred Kelberry: i hope one day we can befriend with time and live longer :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: I want to befriend entropy.
Alexis Sommerfeld: And convince it to not continually tear down my body until it stops functioning altogether.
Alfred Kelberry: entropy will befriend you eventually :)
Solobill Laville: That last point is part of the trick for me, the mystery
Solobill Laville: the continually tearing down, I mean, body, mountains, whatever...
stevenaia Michinaga: entopy may be part of time, each needs the other
Solobill Laville: Hmmm...I like the balance yin/yang perspective of that, but I'm not sure
Alexis Sommerfeld: that's a good point, stevenaia, what's also a good point is that we as humans are incapable of understanding how time actually works, all we have is the illusion of how time seems to work in our minds.
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: so maybe entropy works on some level that we are incapable of understanding.
stevenaia Michinaga: all we can do it "watch it" by measurements, we cannot change it, jsut feel it change
Alfred Kelberry: maybe entropy is time
Solobill Laville: Logic and Truth (with a capital T, again) are like two ultra powerful magnets of the same charge; the closer they get to each other the farther apart the push each other
Alfred Kelberry: or rather lack of it
Solobill Laville: I'm just sayin' ;)
    Alfred Kelberry: solo...
    Solobill Laville: mm hmm
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Solobill Laville: sorry...
    Alexis Sommerfeld: Wait...
    Solobill Laville: :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: logic and truth push away from each other?
Alexis Sommerfeld: it seems to me that they come together
Alexis Sommerfeld: like peanut butter and jelly
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Alfred Kelberry: peanut butter jelly time!
Alexis Sommerfeld: I can provide examples.
Solobill Laville: Everybody love PB&J, that is true :)
    --BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: how can you not love time
Alexis Sommerfeld: I hate when I run out of time.
Alexis Sommerfeld: So I guess I love it.
Alexis Sommerfeld: I don't hate how time is entangled with entropy.
Alexis Sommerfeld: I mean, I do hate how time is entangled with entropy.
stevenaia Michinaga: you never run out of time
stevenaia Michinaga: there always is more
Alexis Sommerfeld: yes, but not in the right places.
Alfred Kelberry: stev, time runs you out? :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: true
    stevenaia Michinaga: that;s diferent
Alfred Kelberry: well, something does run us out
Solobill Laville: Well, all I am trying to say, is that logic is very good, yes, but at a certain point, we can call it about the Absolute - or whatever - logic peters out
    Solobill Laville: But
Solobill Laville: PB&J is still delicious
stevenaia Michinaga: so there is no logic in PB&J, jsut truth?
Solobill Laville: :) You know the answer
    stevenaia Michinaga: laughs
    Solobill Laville: hehe
Alexis Sommerfeld: logic never "peters out", logic is logic.
Alexis Sommerfeld: logic holds true, even if you fail to comprehend it
Solobill Laville: OK, what is your ultimate nature, Alex?
    Alexis Sommerfeld: to be Uber-Alexis.
Alexis Sommerfeld: And rule the world with an iron hand.
Alexis Sommerfeld: And crush wrong doers.
Alfred Kelberry: stev, i think pb&j marks time as deliciously different :)
    Solobill Laville: > lol, Al
Solobill Laville: good one too, Alex
    Solobill Laville: too fun
Alexis Sommerfeld: I will be the world's dark queen, and everyone will love me, and lament.
Alfred Kelberry: *zaps alexis gently* :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: And I will invent zap-proof pajamas.
Solobill Laville: I think they sell those at Target
    stevenaia Michinaga: hehe
Alexis Sommerfeld: Ok, let's do a case study in logic.
    Solobill Laville: okey-dokey :)
Alexis Sommerfeld: And you give me an example of how logic fails at extreme ends.
Alexis Sommerfeld: You have the honors, having made the assertion.
Solobill Laville: Actually, I think that's a bit up-side down, if logic is infallable, let's see how it works at extreme ends
    Alexis Sommerfeld listens.
Solobill Laville: Truth be told, I don't know if I have it in me at this late hour, but history shows many great philosophers who can argue many incredible, and basely untrue, things

Alexis Sommerfeld: But Philosophers don't always use logic.
stevenaia Michinaga: but they are very skilled at being wrong
Alexis Sommerfeld: I am very skilled at being awesome.
Solobill Laville: Yes, and I mean, wow, fast typing, Alex
