Wol Euler: how are you today?

Qt Core: quite good, and you, after the retreat ?

Wol Euler: so far, so good :)

Wol Euler: keeping busy, which may help

Qt Core: there should be some study about PRS post retreat stress ;-)

Wol Euler: I hadn't thought about it before, but it is especially sad for the coordinator when a retreat ends

Wol Euler: because you stay still and the others go away from you

Wol Euler: I had dinner with Eos and Pema on friday night, and saw Pema to the train yesterday morning

Qt Core: and all the thought about what you wanted it to be and what it was (even if it went well)

Wol Euler nods.

Wol Euler: it's over very suddenly and there is nothing to fill the space, not even travel

Qt Core: maybe, if you didn't take the pc with you you may have had a bunch of email/im to read as to come back online

Qt Core: ;-)

Wol Euler: that would have been an idea

Qt Core: not at the scale of yours but i had a couple problems with my internet connection lately... i have whitdrawal symptoms in less than half a day, i would have taken my pc with me too ;-)

Wol Euler: heheheh

Wol Euler: I overdid that though, I found myself online for several hours during hte silent day.

Wol Euler: OK, I was not using my mouth or ears, but I was definitely communicating

Qt Core: not so silent then...

Wol Euler: not at all

 

Pondering on communication and silence.

Qt Core: thinking about it, on most days i communicate much more with a keyboard than with my mouth

Wol Euler: definitely.

Wol Euler: being silent mouthwise is not that unusual for me, actually

Qt Core: i may have to start saying i'm comunicative instead of talkative ;-)

Wol Euler: :)

Qt Core: about silence, i had a weird (nice ?) experience a few days ago

Qt Core: i was driving to work, listening one of my favorite groups on cd (quite energetic and loud) so there was the usual traffic/car noises and the music and i suddently said (yes, i talk to myself): what a nice silence

Wol Euler: heh

Qt Core: and the feeling lasted a couple seconds after that i was wondering

Qt Core: i was wondering how i could feel silence in that chaos ;-)

Wol Euler nods.

Wol Euler: but you did?

Qt Core: yes, for a couple seconds, felt silence even if i was aware of the sounds

Wol Euler: interesting.

Wol Euler: what does "silence" mean, then? that you were at ease?

Qt Core: maybe, was thinking peace could be another definition

Wol Euler: that the noise suddenly stopped disturbing you

Qt Core: all in all the well known road to work and some nice music is quite a relaxing settings for me... even if i don't really like to drive

Qt Core: i'm quite good at hearing but not be disturbed by sounds... i have an ironsmith next door ;-)

Wol Euler: O.O

Wol Euler: yeh, that would be good training

Qt Core: it's even worse, i'm distracted by real silence ;-)

Qt Core: you know, trying to study and then listening a far sounds of one person walking on the street outside and nothing else

Wol Euler nods.

 

Retreats and silence, and an interruption.

Qt Core: thinking about the silence day in retreats, you are silent, but the rest of the workd isn't

Wol Euler nods.

Wol Euler: and you become very aware of that

Wol Euler: have you ever done a silent day like this?

Qt Core: no

Qt Core: and you probably end up trying to map the noise you listen

Zon Quar: no

Zon Quar: it was as an opened page long time

Zon Quar: so my history doesnt find it

Zon Quar: it automaticly opened on my browswer, i got it from someone here, but dont remeber from whom

Qt Core: (speaking of silence i broke 3 on 3 today, yeah to me!)

Wol Euler: I'm looking in my e-mail history

Zon Quar: it was such a good text

 

Zon crashed while I was searching.

Wol Euler: hmm, can't find it. But I see Zon has left us anyway.

Qt Core: it seems Zon has a very bad connections today, it seems he already crashed 4 timesin the last half an hour

Qt Core: i once found on the web a couple mp3 file full of silence (with a bell in the end) at the time i laughed quite a lot

Wol Euler: yep :)

Wol Euler: a very good idea though!

Wol Euler: much simpler than programming a timer with a sound

Qt Core: i lauighed thinking about "hearing" those with a pc, with all the fan and ambient noise

Qt Core: with a mp3 player and a pair of earbuds...

Wol Euler: hmm, that's true. I assumed that it was a silent computer like my Macs are :-P

Qt Core: they were suppesed to be used to time meditations

Qt Core: but putting them on a pc mp3 player and on repeat may be good for the 15 min bell too

Wol Euler: heh

Wol Euler: um, sorry, but I have to leave punctually at 11 for a birthday party.
