The Guardian for this meeting was Riddle Sideways. The comments and edits are by Riddle Sideways.
How should I report this?
How should Riddle prep your for this?
factoid #1 - there was a visitor that never answered whether it was okay to be recorded and published. With accordance with what the guardian group wishes, I had it edit all refs (think I got them all) out.
Factoid #2 - For about the first time, Riddle had a topic and an agenda for this session. Riddle thought about what Benoit Mendelbrot meant over the years. Personally, the sometimes egotistical Benoit (who, forced a self named set of a corner of one part of a choatic landscape down out throats) who was an good/evil genius, was number 9 in the list of wedges into what you might label the "Norm". That topic and the forcing of it's introduction was trashed. Or was it. Observe the choas... When any one side of ___ is being forced, observe the opposite surfacing. Observe the Choas.
Factiod #3 - there was more going on in IM behind this chat session then I have ever seen. It does not show, but "WTF" was going on. When this much ____ is happening, I (personally, ALWAYS) sit up and pay attention because something is about to be revealed
Factoid #4 - IMHO this session is both the best of times and the worst of times. I wanted to leave. Some others acted like they wanted to leave. There was a moment when it was all worth it. There was real "Choas". Not just complexcity, but madness bordering Choas. I thank the AVs that remained. I know why some left [edited out].
Factoid #5 - (forgotten... maybe add later).

Riddle Sideways: good morning, Bruce
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Riddle.
Riddle Sideways: I was gone for a little and only reading the chat logs
Bruce Mowbray: sure. np.
Riddle Sideways: so much happens here. So much to catch up on
Bruce Mowbray: ;-) THAT's for sure!
Riddle Sideways: how do you keep up so well
Bruce Mowbray: Well, I'm sure that I'm missing out of several things . . . but I am fortunate in that I am retired and have plenty of time.
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Aph!
Riddle Sideways: Hello Aphrp
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi all
Aphrodite Macbain: What is MMI?
Aphrodite Macbain: hiya Bertram. You made it
Riddle Sideways: Hi Bert
Bertram Jacobus: hey everybody (partly : again) ... :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: Hmm he left!
Aphrodite Macbain: curiouser and curiouser
Bertram Jacobus: you mean bruce aph`?
Riddle Sideways: comes and goes
Riddle Sideways: lost Bruce this time
Bertram Jacobus: and riddle ? :-)
Bertram Jacobus: strange ... :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: He's 52 m away
Bertram Jacobus: lol . the radar is a nice thing isn´t it aph ? ;-)
Aphrodite Macbain: yes. Nice to know who's in the vicinity without having to click on Communicate
Aphrodite Macbain: let me thest this...
Riddle Sideways: where do I get one of those radar units?
Bertram Jacobus: yes . and it also gives you the range so that you know whether somebody is in cat or shouting range ... :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: are you OK Bruce
Aphrodite Macbain: like now
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: IM still works tho..
Aphrodite Macbain: True. But that's handy if they're out of chat range too
Aphrodite Macbain: I feel like I'm spying though...
Riddle Sideways: ok, distractions abound
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: What's up with you riddle?
Bertram Jacobus: i don´t feel so ... spying - only watching what´s going on around me ...
Riddle Sideways: The important thing is to let you all know
Aphrodite Macbain: Alfred's on his way!
Riddle Sideways: if you did not know already
Alfred Kelberry: wee!
Riddle Sideways: that a great mathematician died
Aphrodite Macbain: Hey Alf! great to see you
Riddle Sideways: Benoit Mandelbrot
Alfred Kelberry: i'm just from kira japan evening :)
Aphrodite Macbain: who was that Riddle
Bertram Jacobus: like all things : one can use them for nice purposes and also for not so nice ones ... ;-9
Bertram Jacobus: and heyy alf(i) ! :-)
Riddle Sideways: Hi Alf
Aphrodite Macbain: I've never been to one of those Alfred
Aphrodite Macbain: who was the mathematician Riddle?
Riddle Sideways: Benoit Mandelbrot died 14 Oct
Riddle Sideways: at 85
Aphrodite Macbain: Here comes Bruice
Aphrodite Macbain: he he
Alfred Kelberry: aph, it's mostly in japanese. that's why i built this translator to talk to them :)
Riddle Sideways: father of Mandelbrot set
Riddle Sideways: thanks bruce
Alfred Kelberry: oh, mandelbrot... yes, patterns of life
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh. You're speaking in rectangles
Alfred Kelberry: sorry, turned it off
Aphrodite Macbain: genetics
Bruce Mowbray: I nearly fractaled by angle by tripping over the fountain just then.
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: hehe
Bruce Mowbray: my angle*
Bertram Jacobus: hello bruce - sry - i´m even slower as i am anyway lol because i try this ... hm 2.0 viewer ... ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: fractals really helped the early 3d efforts (in the 80s, i think) to render landscape
Aphrodite Macbain: tell more please Alf
Aphrodite Macbain: They allowed maps to be morwe accurate?
Riddle Sideways: I remember playing for months making 3D Mandelbrot landscapes
Aphrodite Macbain: hmm never did that.
Bruce Mowbray: yes, I remember designing my own fractals programming in Visual Basic.
Riddle Sideways: here is a link, but for later
Riddle Sideways: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/ge...59&tag=nl.e101
Aphrodite Macbain: where did you both learn about fractals?
Aphrodite Macbain: They weren't part of my education
Riddle Sideways: from choas therory
Aphrodite Macbain feels very old now
Bruce Mowbray: Books about Mandelbrot. . . and chaos theory.
Alfred Kelberry: well, the computers at the time didn't have that much power, so fractal geometry allowed to run the loop and get a natural-looking shapes - something like that :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh. that things always form into patterns given time?
Riddle Sideways: computers were not part of my edu
Bruce Mowbray: some of them actually had fractal programs in them -- anmd I copied those into Visual Basic and modified them.
Aphrodite Macbain: what is Visual Basic?
Riddle Sideways: Mandlebrot did his first visualizations on paper
Bruce Mowbray: VB is a Microsoft programming tool.
Riddle Sideways: manual calcs without computer
Aphrodite Macbain: oh. why would I use it?
Aphrodite Macbain: or better, how would I use it?
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, Riddle -- Benoit M. was pretty amazing that way. He was an IBM mathematician -- and may still be for all I know.
Aphrodite Macbain: Is he the one that just died?
Riddle Sideways: Bruce, Benoit died last week
Alfred Kelberry: fractals were also used in building better antennas
Bruce Mowbray: I will check to see if he died recently.
Alfred Kelberry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal_antenna
Aphrodite Macbain: better antennas!? Oh, thanks
Bruce Mowbray: He died only two weeks ago.
Aphrodite Macbain: I have this image of a wild decorative complicated antenna in many colours
Riddle Sideways: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beno%C3%AEt_Mandelbrot
Bertram Jacobus: whaaaa - this viewer makes me crazy - "have to" change ! sry lol brb
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye! bert!
Alfred Kelberry: ah, poor berty :)
Aphrodite Macbain: wb bert
Riddle Sideways: not sure what drives bert crazy about 2.0 browser
Bruce Mowbray: wb Bert.
Alfred Kelberry: i like v2 :)
Aphrodite Macbain: me2
Riddle Sideways: works for me
Bruce Mowbray: I'm in V2 myself right now.
Bertram Jacobus: ty - pheww - now my world is oke again ... :o)
Aphrodite Macbain: me2
Riddle Sideways: what is different?
Bruce Mowbray: V2 does not have radar, for one thing.
Aphrodite Macbain: can't remember
Bertram Jacobus: for example : i can see which viewers you use
Aphrodite Macbain: I can't or don't know how to
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: is that important?
Alfred Kelberry: josh, can you please explain what's the group for?
Bruce Mowbray: with Phoenix one can see how far away other avis are.
Aphrodite Macbain: after the silence
Bertram Jacobus: and with a radar i can even see many people in wide range
Bertram Jacobus: a build in set everywhere function ...
Aphrodite Macbain: sshhh
Bertram Jacobus: i can see who looks at what if i like - such features ...
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: oops - sry
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Alfred Kelberry: *looks up at the bell*
Bruce Mowbray: Going to Phoenix now . . . brb.
Riddle Sideways: not all have to observe silence
Aphrodite Macbain: better view alf?
Alfred Kelberry: um... just felt like stretching a bit :)
Alfred Kelberry: disturb the air particles :)
Bertram Jacobus: and before i did a typo : i meant : sit everywhere function ... ;o)
Aphrodite Macbain: ??
Riddle Sideways: hmmmmm, if an Alfred walks in a circle in SL will it make a _____ in _____
Bruce Mowbray will try out the 'sit anywhere' function.
Bertram Jacobus: bruce - i see you still with viewer 2.0 - is that correct or the lag i know from the showing of that ? ... ;-)
Aphrodite Macbain scratches her head to figure out how that works
Alfred Kelberry: a riddle's riddle :)
Alfred Kelberry: um, riddle? what's the answer? :)
Aphrodite Macbain: gets abit wet
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Bertram Jacobus loves blub :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: what's the question?
Alfred Kelberry: a puzzle from riddle
Riddle Sideways: sorry, was off on "if a butterfly flaps ..."
Aphrodite Macbain: Tokyo
Riddle Sideways: ah you can sit Alf
Aphrodite Macbain: Nice Alf
Aphrodite Macbain: looks a little hard on the back
Alfred Kelberry: yes, on non-animated surfaces
Aphrodite Macbain: You've lost your legs bruce
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: aph is very observant today :)
Aphrodite Macbain: It's the coffee
Alfred Kelberry: full of senses :)
Riddle Sideways: Not of the Mandelbrot set, but very pretty strange attractors at http://www.chaoscope.org/gallery.htm
Alfred Kelberry: ha!
Riddle Sideways: lol
Aphrodite Macbain: this is my zombie dance
Alfred Kelberry: um... she doesn't move
Riddle Sideways: can do the dead aphro float in fountain
Aphrodite Macbain: bublublub
Alfred Kelberry: *turns aph on her back*
Bruce Mowbray dies from laughing....
Alfred Kelberry: um... i would if i should do this mouth thing
Bruce Mowbray dies from laughing....
Aphrodite Macbain: I can't fix it I'm laughing so hard!
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: boo!
Bertram Jacobus: nice :-)
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Bertram Jacobus: miss entertaining :-)
Alfred Kelberry: neat :)
Aphrodite Macbain: haa better now
Alfred Kelberry: bruce laughed so hard that he crashed? :)
Aphrodite Macbain: That was my zombie dance
Aphrodite Macbain: far too much coffee
Alfred Kelberry: how about tea?
Bertram Jacobus: i have something similar ...
Bertram Jacobus: it seems i am obsessed !
Riddle Sideways: was that v2 gestures, phenox or other?
Aphrodite Macbain: Oh dear. Sorry Bruce
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Alfred Kelberry: mermaid? :)
Aphrodite Macbain: nice bert!
Bertram Jacobus: lol
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: would be very nice to know what browsers ppl were using
Riddle Sideways: could know how they are looking at life
Aphrodite Macbain: ?
Riddle Sideways: rose coloured browsers
Bertram Jacobus: i use firefox ...
Aphrodite Macbain: what difference does a browser make? I use maxon
Aphrodite Macbain: wb bruce!
Riddle Sideways: we have choice of SL viewers/browsers
Aphrodite Macbain: blub
Riddle Sideways: even more choices of RL lens
Riddle Sideways: wb blub
Aphrodite Macbain: That was kind of weird to see myself face down in a pool
Bertram Jacobus: i try to learn a bit the 2.0 viewer to help new people here - most use it at least as beginners
Riddle Sideways: meta self watching
Bruce Mowbray: I was mighty worried for a minute, Aph.
Bertram Jacobus: myself, i prefere pheonix
Aphrodite Macbain winks at Riddle
Aphrodite Macbain grins at Bruce
Bertram Jacobus: but i think i will check imprudence soon too - again : to help others : it´s said, it would work better on older computers ...
Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks for your concern
Alfred Kelberry: mmm... brunost - *nom*
Aphrodite Macbain: imprudence?
Aphrodite Macbain: not another one
Bertram Jacobus: yes. it´s another viewer for sl ...
Alfred Kelberry: aph :)
Bruce Mowbray: that's the name of another viewer, Aph.
Aphrodite Macbain: wwhat makes it diffeerent?
Bertram Jacobus: needs fewer ressources some say
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm used to SL2 now and am hesitant to change again
Riddle Sideways: would be so limiting to only view life thru one viewer
Aphrodite Macbain: limiting perhaps, but simpler
Bertram Jacobus: i understand that very well aph ! ... ;-9
Bertram Jacobus: hehe - but it can be quite comfortable being used to one ...
Bertram Jacobus: as long as it works at least ;-)
Aphrodite Macbain: I keep forgetting how change/find things
Bertram Jacobus: may be also a point how much time one invests
Riddle Sideways: how would you know it works if you only try one
Aphrodite Macbain: so changing to another system adds to my discomfort
Riddle Sideways: might not do everything
Alfred Kelberry: berty, how much one is open
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm sure they will all work, I just find that it's simpler to stick to one if it works find.
Bertram Jacobus: and that´s a point too : so many variations to play ! :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: Change for change sake makes no sense to me any more
Bruce Mowbray: When I was stuck in Limbo a couple of weeks ago, I tried several different viewers. . . then decided that the problem was with SL - not with the viewer...
Alfred Kelberry: yes we can :)
Aphrodite Macbain: I am curious about how I can change my appearance for the new exhibition proposal
Bruce Mowbray: but it gave me some experience with a few new viewers. . .
Bertram Jacobus: but alf, the time aspect is also important : how to try them all when one gives not so much time in here ...
Bruce Mowbray: and I like V2 and Phoenix the best.
Aphrodite Macbain: I'll bet it did Bruce. You had a good reason to try something new
Aphrodite Macbain: You were stuck!
Bruce Mowbray: @Aph -- A I understand it, we are to keep our present avis but just change the clothes, shapes, etc.
Aphrodite Macbain: yes. but I'm tempted to use another avi so that this one can attend metings etc and not freak people out!
Aphrodite Macbain: meetings
Bruce Mowbray: I'd suggest making the changes and then saving them as an "outfit" -- so you can return to your present appearance quickly.
Bruce Mowbray: If you use another avi, we might not recognize you, Aph (different name labels, etc.)
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes, of course. You're right. I'll stick to this red head
Aphrodite Macbain: But mabe we wont be able to recognize each other any way if we drop what we are
Aphrodite Macbain: much of what we are is what we look like
Bruce Mowbray: Noo -- drop what we HAVE to be what our AVI is.
Aphrodite Macbain: who is "we"?
Bruce Mowbray: or, have the avi drop what it HAS in order to BE what it is.
Bruce Mowbray: a challenge, ??? no?
Aphrodite Macbain: It is indeed
--BELL--
Riddle Sideways: we should drop what we Have
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, folks. We are going to get 70 mph winds here very soon -- so I need to leave and pick up stuff (like lawn furniture) now.
Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now.
Bertram Jacobus: [bye bruce] ... :-)
Alfred Kelberry: meep-meep!
Alfred Kelberry: stay safe, bruce
Aphrodite Macbain: 90 seconds of silence?
Bruce Mowbray: Bye!
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye!
Alfred Kelberry: *hugs aph*
Bertram Jacobus lols :o)
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm not leaving quite yet!
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: hey alf
Riddle Sideways: bye bruce
Alfred Kelberry: it's a 90 sec silent hug :)
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Riddle Sideways: nothing like a wet cardboard hug
Aphrodite Macbain: be careful you don't fall in again
Bertram Jacobus: *giggle*
Alfred Kelberry: hey, i have an advanced embedded drying system :)
Bertram Jacobus: coooool
Aphrodite Macbain: aha is sit engineered by fractals?
Alfred Kelberry: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: do you get to change your tie Alf?
Aphrodite Macbain: How are you going to drop what you have?
Alfred Kelberry: um... it's a scarf
Aphrodite Macbain: ok scarf
Alfred Kelberry: not really
Alfred Kelberry: i like it
Alfred Kelberry: i did change my av though :)
Aphrodite Macbain: So you never need to fuss with your appearance?
Alfred Kelberry: not with boxy. he's cute as is :)
Riddle Sideways: what was your av before?
Alfred Kelberry: my rl clone :)
Alfred Kelberry: well, similar
Aphrodite Macbain: really? did it look like you?
Alfred Kelberry: kind of :)
Alfred Kelberry: i couldn't find the right haircut
Aphrodite Macbain: that must have taken a lot of work, no?
Riddle Sideways: me either
Alfred Kelberry: no, mostly it's shape
Alfred Kelberry: and glasses :)
Aphrodite Macbain: glasses are easy. shape isn't so
Aphrodite Macbain: I just made myself fatter yesterday
Alfred Kelberry: you gained some weight? :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Yes. Too many cup cakes
Alfred Kelberry: hehe
Alfred Kelberry: neat :)
Aphrodite Macbain: would you like one?
Riddle Sideways: keep forgetting to feed this SL av
Riddle Sideways: ty
Aphrodite Macbain: Did you all get one?
Aphrodite Macbain: hmmm. that is a problem alf
Riddle Sideways: what happens when you wear it, alf
Riddle Sideways: oh dear
Aphrodite Macbain grins
Aphrodite Macbain: not only do you gain a cup cake you gain a limb!
Aphrodite Macbain: I must go for a while. It's been very pleasant.
Aphrodite Macbain: I really had a great laugh this am. Good for the soul
Riddle Sideways: yes, me too. Thanks all
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye
Aphrodite Macbain: Bye!
