The Guardian for this meeting was Qt Core. The comments are by Qt Core.

A brief session about late autumn celebrations and bridges ;-)

    Qt Core: Hi rhia!
    Qt Core: wb
    Rhiannon Dragoone: ty
Rhiannon Dragoone: i'll prolly crash again and have to be on my text caht
Qt Core: i hope not but ty for the warning ;-)
Qt Core: ... and here she crash :-(
    Rhiannon Dragoone: i'm back
Rhiannon Dragoone: i'm on my text client
Qt Core: i may try some of those, even if i don't crash often
Rhiannon Dragoone: It saves on bandwidth, and i'm on a wireless and my laptop doesn't do the full viewers
Rhiannon Dragoone: I use Phoenix to get someplace and then walk to the circle
Qt Core: so, how are you .... this morning ?
Rhiannon Dragoone: A little frazzled; had to chop wood all day, do my Thanksgiving shopping, and my blood sugar crashed. But aside from that' i'm fine
Rhiannon Dragoone: Did i miss it, or am i the only one
Qt Core: beside myself ? yes
    Qt Core: hi Edwnly
    Rhiannon Dragoone: Hi Edwnly!
Rhiannon Dragoone: I hope you don't mind if I don't sit Edwiny, Qt; i can't on a text client

Qt Core: about thanksgiving, beside maybe a prayer before the big lunch, it isn't a religious festivity, right ?
Rhiannon Dragoone: well, its secular, but has religious roots, and i think it does show the virtue of gratitude (towards Who or What?) and is a time to count blessings
Rhiannon Dragoone: No matter how bleak the circumstances are at Thanksgiving, it generates positive energy to bless
Rhiannon Dragoone: We should bless everyday, but thanksgiving brings it out
Qt Core: as for its placement it could be related to the end of the agricultural year, the brief moment where there isn't "anything" to do around a farm
Qt Core: most of november is full of celebration and tradition tied to that
Rhiannon Dragoone: Qt, yeah, it was the end of harvest at the first one, but it was at the end of some crisis, (forget which one) when one of the first Presidents (forget which one) declared a national day of thanksgiving

Qt Core: isn't it older dating back to the first years of the people from the Mayflower ? Or that is only from the movies ?
Rhiannon Dragoone: yeah, the Pilgrims had the first thankgiving--here in America
Rhiannon Dragoone: I think there were days of thanksgiving in England
Qt Core: and after thanksgiving one of the worst days of the year in the usa... the black friday ;-)
    Rhiannon Dragoone laughs
Rhiannon Dragoone: well, that's because of consumerism gone mad
Qt Core: especially if you are a shop clerks
Rhiannon Dragoone: well, they now issue shields, vests and batons. And with the supervisor's permission, assault rifles
Rhiannon Dragoone: Or is that police officers?
Qt Core: ;-) that around Milan happens on and around 7 and 8 december, being both religious festivity especially when they can be "bridged" with near weekends
Rhiannon Dragoone: yeah, a lot of that occurs in America; Nixon got most holidays turned into Mondays, whether they were on a Monday or not. Veteran's day is the only one left at its original date, and that's because of the tradition that WWI ended at 11:00 AM on the 11th month and the 11th day
Qt Core: a few (mostly secular) festivity were moved not even on mondays but on nearest sunday, but most still are on their proper day, someone suggested some abolition or move but hints of a riot make him change idea ;-)
Qt Core: we love the "random" bridging possibility

    --BELL--

Rhiannon Dragoone: yeah, i would like holidays on their proper days, but 3 day weekends are nice
Qt Core: but they end up to be always the same weekends, with holidays in their proper day they change between the previous or the next ones, not much difference, but they always seemed "more alive" to me, but maybe it is only that i'm used to this way
Rhiannon Dragoone: well, they're rooted in the original need, so yeah, they're more alive
Rhiannon Dragoone: Like Candlemass--->first fires--->groundhog's day
Qt Core: it toke days to us naive italian programmers, several years ago to understand what the hell a terminal emulator started to ask us about groundhogs :-)
Qt Core: time to go start lunch , bye Rhia and (silent) Edwny
    Rhiannon Dragoone: go eat, Qt
    Rhiannon Dragoone: thank you!
