The Guardian for this meeting was Wol Euler. Gaya posted the log for Wol.
Wol Euler: hello gaya
Gaya Ethaniel: Hello Wol :)
Wol Euler: how are you today?
Gaya Ethaniel: Good thanks, yourself?
Wol Euler: pretty well.
Wol Euler: I would say "TGIF" were I not going to work through the weekend
Gaya Ethaniel: uh ... ok so quite busy at work :)
Wol Euler: but shorter days and fewer interruptions (no phone calls) so it's easier than during the week
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Wol Euler watches Tricksy playing with hes ball and chuckles.
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Wol Euler: do you have a topic for today?
Gaya Ethaniel thinks.
--BELL--
Gaya Ethaniel: Are you a 'baby-boomer'?
Wol Euler: by a strict definition I am too young for that, born 1958
Gaya Ethaniel: born between 45-65 apparently
Wol Euler: huh
Wol Euler: well, in that case "yes"
Wol Euler: I'd heard a narrower band of years mentioned
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Gaya Ethaniel: Last night I saw a debate re: baby boomers 'eating all of the chocolate cake'.
Gaya Ethaniel: Leaving not much behind for the younger generation ...
Wol Euler: it's true.
Gaya Ethaniel: oh you think so too ... ?
Wol Euler: as is also true that we in the West are eating the entire world's chocolate cake
Wol Euler: and making everyone worldwide wash the dishes
Wol Euler: (warning: political discussion approaches)
Gaya Ethaniel: uh ... politics :)
Wol Euler: what was the attitude of the program?
Gaya Ethaniel: Well they put 3 from younger generation and 3 from older generation together and let them talk to each other.
Wol Euler: and chocolate cake naturally came up :)
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Gaya Ethaniel: I'd say all acknowledged that there is problems that need to be solved.
Wol Euler: O.O
Gaya Ethaniel: I know I was surprised :)
Gaya Ethaniel: It didn't turn into finger pointing at the end which was nice.
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Wol Euler: what did they think the problems were?
Gaya Ethaniel: Increasingly there will be far less younger people in work to support the older generation adequately in terms of care etc.
Wol Euler: true
Wol Euler: also in terms of money (tax base)
Gaya Ethaniel: So older people will have to be means tested for free care to reduce loads.
Wol Euler: if you think cities and states are poor now, wait another twenty years
Gaya Ethaniel nods :(
Gaya Ethaniel: I'm doing my bit, making beans sprouts :P
Gaya Ethaniel: They are growing nicely ... feel bad about eating them later ...
Wol Euler cheers
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Wol Euler: ah yes, the dilemma of vegetarianism: "But veggies don't want to be eaten either!"
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
--BELL--
Gaya Ethaniel: I heard you're thinking about attending SF retreat?
Wol Euler: definitely attending :)
Gaya Ethaniel: huzzah!
Wol Euler: insofar as anything is definite in a world containing terrorists and earthquakes and bad drivers.
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Wol Euler: but yes
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Wol Euler: I'm really looking forward to it.
Gaya Ethaniel: That'd be ... about 3 months after Malta for you?
Wol Euler: yes. four retreats this year.
Gaya Ethaniel: Are you attending all four?
Wol Euler: mmhmm
Gaya Ethaniel: wow
Wol Euler: having set on SF, I am now less sure about Nova Scotia. Perhaps four is a lot to deal with
Wol Euler: but I can't really drop Germany since I'm organizing it
Gaya Ethaniel: What made you change your mind?
Wol Euler: about NS?
Wol Euler: just the thought that I'd be doing a hell of a lot of retreating this year, going from 0 to 180 in a single bound as it were
Wol Euler: and wondering what to do next year...
Gaya Ethaniel: ah ok
Wol Euler: but I'm going to be in Canada in the summer *anyway* so it seems silly not to go
Gaya Ethaniel: :)
Wol Euler: phone
Gaya Ethaniel: ok
--BELL--
Wol Euler: still phone
Gaya Ethaniel: np, I'm going to go now :)
Wol Euler: this will take ages still, it's ok for you to go
Wol Euler: sorry
Gaya Ethaniel: Have a good day :)
