2010.03.17 07:00 - Building, Scripting, Working Together

The Guardian for this meeting was Bleu Oleander. The comments are by Bleu Oleander.

    Yakuzza Lethecus: morning bleu
    Bleu Oleander: hey Yaku!
Yakuzza Lethecus: i just arrived home, so i´ll be afk for a few minutes
    Bleu Oleander: np
Yakuzza Lethecus: just logged on right away
Bleu Oleander: i'm just waking up!

Yakuzza Lethecus: hmm, i was thinking if i should just remain silent or not
Yakuzza Lethecus: i often come here to just hear something different, but don´t even feel like sharing

Bleu Oleander: that would certainly be easy for me to edit and post .... ha!
    Yakuzza Lethecus: yes :)
Yakuzza Lethecus: it´s just that i don´t have a specific topic in mind
Bleu Oleander: maybe it's that kind of session
Yakuzza Lethecus: fine with me :)
Bleu Oleander: anything happen at some of the sessions I missed this week?
Yakuzza Lethecus: we´ve been together in most sessions i believe
Yakuzza Lethecus: can´t remember one without you
    Bleu Oleander: :)
Bleu Oleander: so let's try to be silent for 15 minutes or so and see how it feels .....
Bleu Oleander: stretch the 90sec pause and see how it feels ....

    --BELL--

Liza joins Yakuzza and me as we continue our stretch of silence .... PaB-031710.jpg

    Bleu Oleander: hey Liza
Liza Deischer: its crowdy here :-)
Bleu Oleander: it's a quiet morning here
    Liza Deischer: hi
Bleu Oleander: how's your project going?
Liza Deischer: almost finished, at least my part

(am very curious to see Liza's project that she's been working on ....)

    Liza Deischer: and yours?
    Bleu Oleander: still developing
Bleu Oleander: you'll have to come see later
Bleu Oleander: I really like building

(I love being a new builder in SL and creating virtual art .... it's been causing me to spend much more time in SL and in doing so has enabled me to meet new friends and get to know the PaB participants better .... been having a lot of fun!)

Liza Deischer: yes, I haven't had the time
Bleu Oleander: but i'm just learning
    Liza Deischer: yes
Bleu Oleander: so not really building yet ... more like arranging
Liza Deischer: you told me so?
Liza Deischer: you need some help?
    Bleu Oleander: building?
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey, liza
    Liza Deischer: yes
    Liza Deischer: hey Yaku
Bleu Oleander: I'm going through the Tower of primatives
    Bleu Oleander: very helpful
Liza Deischer: soon, I've got a little time on my hands
    Bleu Oleander: oh great
Bleu Oleander: I don't know anything about scripting
    Bleu Oleander: do you?
    Liza Deischer: me neither
Liza Deischer: but, I do know persons who do
Liza Deischer: and like to do it for fun
Liza Deischer: if it is something that is new to them
Bleu Oleander: rezzing and textures i'm learning, scripting not so much
Liza Deischer: good sl-friends of mine
Liza Deischer: well, I bought something to learn someting about it
Liza Deischer: but at the moment I can't
Bleu Oleander: I did figure out how to script an object to give out a note card
Bleu Oleander: that's as far as i got :)
Liza Deischer: okay, well I use scripts and alter them
Liza Deischer: but I never made one, so
Liza Deischer: your ahead of me :-)
Bleu Oleander: not by much! hehe
    Liza Deischer: still :-)
Liza Deischer: I mean, I can't learn you anything if it comes to that

(possible ideas for a PaB special session ...)

Bleu Oleander: maybe we should have the PaB building experts do a session for all of us
Liza Deischer: and building is also complecated
Liza Deischer: but I have some experience in doing that
Liza Deischer: in building I mean
Bleu Oleander: so maybe you can help me there
    Liza Deischer: hmmmm, good idea
Liza Deischer: but I think, especially scripting, is something that takes time
Bleu Oleander: we can share our expertise
    Liza Deischer: yes

    --BELL--

Liza Deischer: I would like to learn
Liza Deischer: and to share any experience I've got
Bleu Oleander: I know Wol said she knew scripting and I know Storm does so maybe we could have a session for those that are interested
Liza Deischer: They are both very busy at the moment
Bleu Oleander: I think building enhances the SL experience
Bleu Oleander: special environments add a lot
Bleu Oleander: especially environments that you help build
Bleu Oleander: brings peeps together in another way
    Bleu Oleander: that's fun too
Liza Deischer: true, but most people who can do anything, are most of the time the most busy ones
    Bleu Oleander: that's true
Liza Deischer: And they already know the experience of building and scripting
Liza Deischer: you need to find someone in an sl-dip :-)
Liza Deischer: who likes to pick up something that sounds like fun
Liza Deischer: and have no problem in sharing experiences
Liza Deischer: hard to find, I'm afraid

(possible idea for a group project ....)

Bleu Oleander: I wonder if we all could participate in a group creation of an art piece that would serve the purpose of learning and also creating a work of art
    Liza Deischer: would be fun
Bleu Oleander: i.e. in our common areas
Yakuzza Lethecus remembers to be dragged into building art in my spanish class :P
Bleu Oleander: everyone could add to the piece and share what they know
Bleu Oleander: how was that Yaku?
    Bleu Oleander: didn't work?
Liza Deischer: I don't think it is going to be easy, because working together in constructing something
Liza Deischer: is not easy in sl
Liza Deischer: as sharing is not easy
    Bleu Oleander: why is that?
Liza Deischer: well, you need to share it with the group to startt with
Liza Deischer: but i find it harder to communicate about it
Liza Deischer: maybe using voice would help
Yakuzza Lethecus thinks about barking back to bleu´s dog
Bleu Oleander: (sorry ... my dog is barking at all the joggers)
    Liza Deischer: ah :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: because ur not jogging with him ? :)
    Bleu Oleander: right :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: or both
Liza Deischer: hates them and loves them
    Bleu Oleander: dogs?
    Liza Deischer: no joggers
    Bleu Oleander: or joggers?
    Liza Deischer: :-)
    Bleu Oleander: ha!
Liza Deischer: I was talking about the appreciations of the dog :-)
Liza Deischer: do you have some ideas about it Bleu
Liza Deischer: or is this just coming up at this moment
Bleu Oleander: about an art project?
    Liza Deischer: yes
Bleu Oleander: I've been thinking about it

    --BELL--

Bleu Oleander: as a way to bring peeps together and learn to build and script at the same time
Liza Deischer: because i don't think it is easy, but it seems worthwhile to think about it
Liza Deischer: with a good idea
Bleu Oleander: let's see what we come up with
    Bleu Oleander: share ideas
Bleu Oleander: and present it to the group
Liza Deischer: did you have a kind of artpiece in mind?
Liza Deischer: a suggestion or something?
Bleu Oleander: not yet, but i'll think about it
Liza Deischer: it should be someting that is suitable for the whole group
    Bleu Oleander: yes
Bleu Oleander: i'm thinking ... start simple
Liza Deischer: Or something crazy like a junkyard
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
Liza Deischer: with all kind of things that moves one way or the other
    Bleu Oleander: I like that
Liza Deischer: pretty easy to add something
    Liza Deischer: building, using script
    Bleu Oleander: yes!
Liza Deischer: using textures, everything you can think of
Liza Deischer: I don't know about the amount of prims we could be using
Liza Deischer: or if there is any room left
Bleu Oleander: everyone should be limited to a certain number of prims and textures
Liza Deischer: It could even be a never ending project
Bleu Oleander: I saw an art show where everyone was limited to color only, no textures .... turned our amazing
Bleu Oleander: so very low drag on the system, but colorful
Liza Deischer: hmmm, that could be a way of building too
Liza Deischer: a few directions, and thats it
Bleu Oleander: yes .... see how creative we can be within the restrictions of no textures only color
Liza Deischer: and maybe a restriction to a certain theme
    Bleu Oleander: sure
    Bleu Oleander: PaB theme
Liza Deischer: In a way we are already building :-)
    Bleu Oleander: yes :)
Bleu Oleander: so maybe we should mention this at the next guardian meeting
Liza Deischer: sounds good to me
    Bleu Oleander: kk
Liza Deischer: what about you Yaku?
Liza Deischer: somehow I don't see a builder in you
Yakuzza Lethecus: i am not going to build anything soon :)
    Liza Deischer: :-)
Bleu Oleander: you could be a consultant if you didn't want to build :)
Liza Deischer: I don't think everyone needs to participate
Bleu Oleander: just those who want to
    Liza Deischer: yes
Yakuzza Lethecus: i have the wrong thinking when i create something
    Bleu Oleander: why is that?
Liza Deischer: That sounds like good junk :-)

Yakuzza Lethecus: i want that things look great and think that i don´t know how, and i get stuck and i don´t start and feel like crap when there isn´t a good outcome afterwards
    Liza Deischer: ah, that's frustrating

(I think that how Yakuzza feels about art is a common reason that people don't explore their create side .... they're afraid of failure, a stumbling block for all other endeavors as well .... but failure is a great way to learn!  maybe a good reason to participate in a project together)

    --BELL--

Bleu Oleander: well, I'm going to go play with my building ... and think of some ideas
    Bleu Oleander: c u later?
Liza Deischer: okay, I'm going to take a nap
    Yakuzza Lethecus: bye everyone
    Bleu Oleander: bfn
Liza Deischer: maybe we see each other in our garden
Liza Deischer: sharing ideas before sunday
    Bleu Oleander: yes :)
    Liza Deischer: see you Bleu
    Bleu Oleander: bye bye
Liza Deischer: I will be visiting your project soon
    Bleu Oleander: great
