    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey ara
    arabella Ella: Hiya Yaku!
    arabella Ella: quiet tonight
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, but everyone is arriving in the first 15 minutes
    arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: i may not be able to stay for very long
arabella Ella: as someone wants to ask me questions for research
Yakuzza Lethecus: thats fine so you may sit on a curshun
arabella Ella: still rezzing cant see cushions yet
Yakuzza Lethecus: what kind of research
arabella Ella: not really sure yet
    arabella Ella: but about SL
    Yakuzza Lethecus: he/she antrhropologist ?
    Yakuzza Lethecus: ah
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey bleu
    Bleu Oleander: hey Yaku, Ara
    arabella Ella: Hiya bleu
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello everyone :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: welcome agatha
arabella Ella: just got the TP must be off hope to be back soon :)
    arabella Ella: cya
    Bleu Oleander: hey Agatha
Yakuzza Lethecus: bye for now ara
Agatha Macbeth: Was it something I said?
    Agatha Macbeth: Hi QT
    Qt Core: hi all
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey qt
    Bleu Oleander: Hi Qt
Bleu Oleander: so Agatha .... what's today's topic?
Agatha Macbeth: Er, no idea ;-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hmm friday sillyness ?
Yakuzza Lethecus: but i am just kind of tired right now :)
    Bleu Oleander: oh right
Agatha Macbeth: Not enough here yet!
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, where is wol
    Agatha Macbeth: Long day Yaku?
Agatha Macbeth: At work probably :(
    Agatha Macbeth: RL commitments eh.....
Qt Core: i almost (or more than usually) enjoyed work as i was arguing with my sister both yesterday night and this morning
    Yakuzza Lethecus: wb ara
    Agatha Macbeth: Ooops
    Yakuzza Lethecus: that was short
    arabella Ella: Hiya ... back!
    Qt Core: hi Ara
    Agatha Macbeth: Hello again Ara
    Bleu Oleander: about what Qt?
    arabella Ella: Hi Aga!
Agatha Macbeth: We kept your seat :)
    arabella Ella: still rezzing
    Yakuzza Lethecus: what happened ara
    arabella Ella: yes
Qt Core: long story better to leave it alone (so i stay calm too ;-) )
    Bleu Oleander: kk
arabella Ella: well these are students from a college in the IS
    arabella Ella: USA
    arabella Ella: they wanted photos
arabella Ella: they interviewed me the other day
arabella Ella: about advantages and disadvantages of using SL for teaching and learning
    --BELL--
    Agatha Macbeth: Interesting
arabella Ella: yes altho it is only for an assignment they have
arabella Ella: the other day i attended an interesting session on research
Bleu Oleander: what are the main disadvantages Ara?
arabella Ella: on whether SL teachers have prejudices or not about avis of other ethnicities
arabella Ella: ah the disadvantages ... these are what i think more or less ...
arabella Ella: stalking, harrassement, sex, addiction
Qt Core: boring, same as rl ;-)
arabella Ella: but i also said i think the advantages far outweigh the advantages
    Agatha Macbeth nods @ 'stalking'
arabella Ella: no Qt ... it is different from RL
Bleu Oleander: no, I said disadvantages ..... hehe
    Agatha Macbeth: Tut tut
Yakuzza Lethecus: hmm, and for true teaching there is always the apportunity to have a second av
Yakuzza Lethecus: and a real school might have it´s own island
arabella Ella: what do you mean Yaku?
Yakuzza Lethecus: where you can´t zzom in with the camera
arabella Ella: oh i also said there could be a problem with downtime and crashing
arabella Ella: unless they have their own grid ... but
arabella Ella: educational institutions mainly operate with very low budgets
    Agatha Macbeth: Mmm
Yakuzza Lethecus: hmm, personal costs are much higher then the basic cost for a secondlife place, i consider secondlife as expensive but considering the wage of an employed person it´s really cheap
arabella Ella: and most educational institutions that have their own island merely distribute notecards with info and dont even hold classes on SL
    Agatha Macbeth: Sadly
    Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, true
arabella Ella: well Yaku on SL it is up to each individual how much to spend .. or not to spend
Agatha Macbeth: That is the question
Yakuzza Lethecus: nice places, expensivly created by designers and condammmned oto emptyness
    Yakuzza Lethecus: eliza :)
arabella Ella: yes quite a few empty places i have visited
    Bleu Oleander: hi Eliza
    arabella Ella: Hiya Eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Everyone!
Agatha Macbeth: Hi Liz :) Nice dress
Qt Core: hi eliza, nice springy, almost summery colors
Yakuzza Lethecus: the bells are ringing
    Eliza Madrigal: Thanks :))
arabella Ella: what do you guys think the disadvantages of SL for education are?
Eliza Madrigal: the bells that still can ring
    Eliza Madrigal: hm, Ara... distractions
    arabella Ella: yes
Qt Core: language if the lessons aren't in your own and not in your rl expertise area
arabella Ella: can you specify Eliza?
    arabella Ella: yes Qt
    Agatha Macbeth: True QT
arabella Ella: i went to cultural lesson on Italy too one day
arabella Ella: oh Qt your 'Principe' is on TV yet again today ... with Pupo :)
Eliza Madrigal: Well, thinking of many of the workshops and people wandering in, interruptions... it can be difficult for teachers/presenters
Eliza Madrigal: to stay on track
    arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: that is often the case for the philosophy classes
arabella Ella: as are IMs between students also a distraction
Qt Core: i was just commenting to my mother about my sister sleeping in front of him ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: add to that responsibility for computer issues
    arabella Ella: he he
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, but there are also methods to prevend those things
    arabella Ella: how Yaku?
    Yakuzza Lethecus: private island
Yakuzza Lethecus: nobody can zoom in with camera
arabella Ella: yes but you can still IM and interrupt teacher on private island
arabella Ella: no outsiders can zoon in you mean
    arabella Ella: zoom
Yakuzza Lethecus: you can block ppl from sending messages
arabella Ella: can you block other ppl's IMs too?
Yakuzza Lethecus: there are methods for everything but sl gets more and more complicated
Qt Core: those are more detenyion camps then classes ;-)
    Qt Core: detention
Yakuzza Lethecus: you can even have a place where ppl can zoom in but don´t see thext and voice
    Yakuzza Lethecus: or the media
    arabella Ella: :)
arabella Ella: BUT ... we all know how engaging SL is for most people for the first couple of months
Yakuzza Lethecus: i was on an nlp place and they wanted to charge for that and i couldn´t zoom in and see anything
Yakuzza Lethecus: i was able to zoom but i didn´t recieve any momunication
arabella Ella: i went to a free NLP class this week
Yakuzza Lethecus: sorry, i am on the couch
Yakuzza Lethecus: i don´t correct anything i type
    arabella Ella: he he
Agatha Macbeth: Don't fall asleep yaku ;-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: that would never happen :)
    Agatha Macbeth grins
Qt Core: that is strength of characters
arabella Ella: you are the guardian anyway Yaku tonite arent you?
Yakuzza Lethecus: yes, so i have the ppl whom are visiting me around here still at 4 pm slt :)
    --BELL--
Yakuzza Lethecus: last week bleu came once along .9
arabella Ella: what do you mean?
    Bleu Oleander: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: Whoa
arabella Ella: what did you mean Yaku people visiting you till 4am?
Yakuzza Lethecus: I NEVER LEFT THE PLACE WHEN I FELL ASLEEP
    Yakuzza Lethecus: UPS
    arabella Ella: :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: sorry
    Agatha Macbeth: Ow!
Eliza Madrigal has heard ya snoring before :))... that dedication... study til you drop
Yakuzza Lethecus: i can´t make the sentence bigger where i type
Yakuzza Lethecus: i can´t see what or how i type
arabella Ella: well we all experienced (nearly) all of us sleeping in Malta retreat
    arabella Ella: during silent day
arabella Ella: and i dont recall Yaku snoring
Agatha Macbeth: That's why it was silent :)
Bleu Oleander: one way not to talk!
    arabella Ella: exactly
Eliza Madrigal smiles... I love the images of that that I have in my mind... like cats lounging around
    arabella Ella: yes
Eliza Madrigal: but if one is asleep maybe can't hear others :)
arabella Ella: we had cushions laid on the carpet on the floor
    Eliza Madrigal: :))
arabella Ella: and i must admit i am guilty of having started it off
arabella Ella: but it goes to show how relaxed we are were
arabella Ella: except for Pema and Eos who had gone off walking
Eliza Madrigal: yes, feeling safe enough to fall asleep with those you'd just met does seem quite special
    arabella Ella: yes exactly
Agatha Macbeth: But you hadn't just met them! :))
arabella Ella: only two days earlier Aga
Eliza Madrigal grins... yes... that's *also* true
    arabella Ella: in RL
arabella Ella: this was the afternoon
arabella Ella: so we did not sleep right through the whole day ... of course
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: (Yaku probably did)
Eliza Madrigal: Ara, to your point about education in SL... I'd imagine that refining the process would be very powerful.. Just thinking about the concentrated potential ...
arabella Ella: oh yes Eliza ... but i tend to think that the potential is not being realised
Eliza Madrigal: Tech and SL focus us in a strong way, it being visual and having a 'sense' of body
Agatha Macbeth notices Eliza's typing anim is back...
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
arabella Ella: most classes i have been too ... as it is one of my interests ... to see how SL is used for teaching and learning ...
Eliza Madrigal: Do you have ideas about that Ara, what might b helpful?
arabella Ella: use either cut and paste or free discussion
    Eliza Madrigal: *be
arabella Ella: some give a notecard with their cut and paste info
Yakuzza Lethecus: the greatest advantage ov sl is that you don´t have to travel anywhere the
arabella Ella: i think RL pedagogical methods with mixed styles is not yet capitalised upon much here
Qt Core: but this way most od the (multi)media cababilities of sl aren't used
    arabella Ella: exactly Qt
Yakuzza Lethecus: so it´s much better then frontal education
    Eliza Madrigal nods... 'potentially'
arabella Ella: yes Yaku but you also always have some avis who remain silent and you have no idea whether they are there or listening or not
Yakuzza Lethecus: but thats their fault
Eliza Madrigal: The most successful presentations I've attended that were open to everyone, generally had a clear and consistent format... presentation then question time... wiki, etc
Yakuzza Lethecus: you don´t know where the thoughts of students are in real life either :)
    Eliza Madrigal: wiki if ongoing
    Eliza Madrigal: True, Ya... hehe
arabella Ella: may i describe my best experience so far?
    Eliza Madrigal: yes please!
Qt Core: or if they are usingskype to chat away ;-)
    Bleu Oleander: sure
arabella Ella: ok it was run by an irish masters student as part of her research
arabella Ella: and we were a group of five volunteer avis
arabella Ella: and she had a brilliant sim ... must have been quite expensive ... with stuff with notecards and pictures and stuff
arabella Ella: and she asked us to create a Think Book in pairs
arabella Ella: and it was a great learning experience for me
    Eliza Madrigal: Think Book?
arabella Ella: it involved collaborating with another avi and putting together information on a topic
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah, nice
arabella Ella: ThinkBook is something you use to prepare a sort of small book / presentation with text and pictures
arabella Ella: actually i may be using the wrong name ... for the think book ... some similar name though
Eliza Madrigal: so something to take away from the experience...
Eliza Madrigal: and dialoging engaging one's participation without it being just question/answer/comments?
    --BELL--
    arabella Ella silently nods
arabella Ella: it was very much like project work
    arabella Ella: learning by doing
Eliza Madrigal: utilizing peer-to-peer.. that does seem dynamic
    arabella Ella: yes
arabella Ella: and she did all the pre- ethics consent stuff
arabella Ella: and post research de-briefing
Eliza Madrigal: takes a bit of pressure off the presenter/teacher too... to DO/BE everything...
arabella Ella: p-lus a final session with her research results
    arabella Ella: very professional
arabella Ella: and very engaging for me
    Eliza Madrigal: good to note
Eliza Madrigal: That's a long the lines I guess of what Stim was wanting us to do with collaborating/presentations, etc I guess
    arabella Ella: possibly
Eliza Madrigal: (during wok workshop-for reference)
    arabella Ella: yes
Eliza Madrigal: Did that setting influence some of the ideas you were bringing up at the guardian session?
Eliza Madrigal likes the village square concept very much
arabella Ella: i dont think so ... not explicitely
arabella Ella: oh the village square
    Agatha Macbeth: Me too
    Wol Euler: hello everyone
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey wol
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Wol! Blonde Wol! :))
    Bleu Oleander: hey Wol
arabella Ella: well Storm mentioned here the other day ... he asked whether we have any ideas for the village ... whether it needs anything else
    Qt Core: hi wol
    arabella Ella: Hiya Wol
Agatha Macbeth: Well hello there :))
arabella Ella: but i did not have ideas there and then ... but i reflected on it ... i believe in reflection very much
arabella Ella: so my ideas came mainly from reflection
Eliza Madrigal: yes... we were talking about the art exhibitions this morning.. and I'd really like to learn how to script a book to give pab notes... looking forward to seeing what SophiaSharon might do with scribes in that regard too
Eliza Madrigal: (sorry for long sentences-always an issue for me)
    arabella Ella: :)
    Agatha Macbeth grins
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: Eliza, we can talk about that scripting later on if you want, it's not difficult
arabella Ella: i have also been to classes where slides are used
arabella Ella: but generally they take ages to rez
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, would appreciate that Wol, Thanks!
arabella Ella: and by the time the slides rez for me they move on to the next slide
Eliza Madrigal nods to Ara.. especially if its busy
    arabella Ella: yes
    Wol Euler nods to Ara
arabella Ella: this week i went to one of the Philosophy Island discussions
arabella Ella: as they are very active at the moment
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah
arabella Ella: and what they often do is allow the speaker about 20 mins or so to present
arabella Ella: followed by free discussion
arabella Ella: but the discussion really strayed far away from the topic ... unfortunately IMHO
Eliza Madrigal: that often happens in philosophy talks it seems
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
arabella Ella: We are discussing education on SL Wol
    arabella Ella: yes it does
    Wol Euler: ty :)
Eliza Madrigal: and people have their pet topics...
arabella Ella: love your new hairdo Wol ... really cool!
    arabella Ella: yes they do
Eliza Madrigal: which I can't be too judgemental about considering that's prob true for me too... hehe
    Wol Euler smiles. Thank you!
arabella Ella: I have also been to a few Sloodle talks
    arabella Ella: interesting too
arabella Ella: they merge SL with Moodle
    Agatha Macbeth: A few what?!
    Eliza Madrigal: Hm!
arabella Ella: do you know Moodle?
    arabella Ella: he he
    Agatha Macbeth: Er, no
    Eliza Madrigal: moodle the poodle
    Wol Euler: nope
Agatha Macbeth: I know moogles :)
arabella Ella: Moodle is an on line learning platform similar to Blackboard
arabella Ella: but Moodle is open source
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah
    Agatha Macbeth: But what's Sloodle?
arabella Ella: you use Moodle to upload slides, links, wikis, etc
arabella Ella: Sloodle combines SL and Moodle
    arabella Ella: uses both together
    Agatha Macbeth slaps her forehead
    Agatha Macbeth: Duh
arabella Ella: does it make sense or not?
arabella Ella: please feel free to ask
Agatha Macbeth: Well it does now
Eliza Madrigal remembers the last time she had to give a powerpoint and shivers at having to combine lots of things at once... hehe
arabella Ella: a powerpoint on SL Eliza?
    Wol Euler: hello sharon
Eliza Madrigal: No, in RL... just being aware of what slide one is on, if the link has been made before clicking... add stagefright = big mess :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: hi just an hour late
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Sharon :))
    Agatha Macbeth: Howdy SSL
    arabella Ella: Hiya SSL
    Bleu Oleander: hi Sharon
Eliza Madrigal: There's no timeline on Friday
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Wol Euler: no worries, I only beat you by five minutes
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yay
Wol Euler: you got here just in time for the
    Wol Euler: onigokko
SophiaSharon Larnia: hahahah just in time!!!!
Eliza Madrigal: ohhh new record for those wearing in proportion to those not
    SophiaSharon Larnia: woohoo
    Agatha Macbeth: One laggy onigokko
    SophiaSharon Larnia: eep
    Bleu Oleander: (love that song!!)
    Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
    Wol Euler: heheheheh
    Agatha Macbeth: Song?
    Agatha Macbeth: No words
Eliza Madrigal: the soundtrack of our life...
arabella Ella smiles and wonders why mine is not working yet
    Bleu Oleander: musical interlude
    Eliza Madrigal: stop
Agatha Macbeth: Is it on Ara?
    arabella Ella: now yes
SophiaSharon Larnia: i associate it with a commercial on tv with a running baby
    Eliza Madrigal: onigokko
    Wol Euler: :)
    arabella Ella: yeaaaaaaaaa
    Agatha Macbeth: Now!
    Eliza Madrigal: stop
    arabella Ella loves this!
SophiaSharon Larnia runs around Qt hahah
    --BELL--
arabella Ella: reminds me of my first or second time here when Moon got it going
Agatha Macbeth: That woke Yaku up alright :)
Bleu Oleander: that music would wake the dead!
    Agatha Macbeth: It hust did!
    Agatha Macbeth: just
    SophiaSharon Larnia: grins
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, forgot a meeting.... Thanks for playing :) Bye for now (will email or IM wol re the scripting-thank you)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Eliza
    Wol Euler: sure
    Agatha Macbeth: BFN Liz
Wol Euler: bye eliza, takje care
    Bleu Oleander: bye Eliza
arabella Ella: Wol have you ever heard of something that sounds like Think Book but that is not the correct name?
    Wol Euler: context?
arabella Ella: used on SL as an educational resource for text and picture presentations
Wol Euler: a sandwich? a computer?
    Wol Euler: ah
Agatha Macbeth: 'Think Book' does sound familiar
arabella Ella: like a book to some extent but virtual of course and not precisely a book
arabella Ella: tried to google it but seems i have wrong name
    Wol Euler: hmmmm
Wol Euler: there is a kind of instant publishing system here that I have seen
Wol Euler: basically a scripted object that you load with textures = pages
arabella Ella: ah could be it
arabella Ella: this is something you can purchase
Wol Euler: I thought I had one, but can't recognize it in my inventory
arabella Ella: then fill it in
    Wol Euler: right
    Wol Euler: same concept
    Wol Euler: Intellibook, perhaps?
Wol Euler: have a look at that, I think that's it
    arabella Ella: thanks
arabella Ella: i dont think so
arabella Ella: was looking in my inventory but no luck yet
    Wol Euler: LookBook perhaps
    Wol Euler: another similar system
arabella Ella: i feel sure the name had the word Think in it
    Agatha Macbeth: How about Thinklookbook?
    Wol Euler: :-PPPPP
    arabella Ella: dont think so
Agatha Macbeth: Or something ending in -oodle
arabella Ella: Wol perhaps you could remind me what the main web site if for SL related purchases?
    Wol Euler: xstreetsl?
    arabella Ella: ah maybe thanks!
    Agatha Macbeth knows it well
    Wol Euler: :)
Wol Euler: perhaps "Think Kink, the personal bondage assistant"?
Wol Euler: (reading hte search pages)
    Agatha Macbeth: ???
    arabella Ella: sounds hot :)
Wol Euler: part of the Restrained Life viewer protocol
Agatha Macbeth: Don't think that's what Ara's looking for somehow...
    arabella Ella: :)
Wol Euler: that's probably not it :)
    arabella Ella: you never know
    Agatha Macbeth shuffles sideways
    arabella Ella: towards Ara, Agatha?
    arabella Ella: :)
Agatha Macbeth: That for me to know ;-)
arabella Ella: only joking of course
    Agatha Macbeth: (Aww)
Wol Euler: you might find it by looking up groups for writers, Ara
Wol Euler: they need to publish, after all
    arabella Ella: yes
    arabella Ella: ty
    SophiaSharon Larnia: Thinc Book 2.0
    Wol Euler: ah!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: http://help.thincsl.com/tiki-index.p...=THINC_Book2-0
    SophiaSharon Larnia: http://help.thincsl.com/doku.php?id=press2-1c
Wol Euler applauds. Well done SSL
    arabella Ella: ty
    arabella Ella: that's it!
Agatha Macbeth: Obviously the programmer couldn't spell
SophiaSharon Larnia: ok i hope it helps
SophiaSharon Larnia: note that i wasnt listening to your fun conversation
    SophiaSharon Larnia: not*
    arabella Ella: :)
    Wol Euler: :)
    Agatha Macbeth: You ween't?
    Agatha Macbeth: werent
    SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
    arabella Ella: she was searching
    Agatha Macbeth: onigokko
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hahaha
    Agatha Macbeth: stop
Agatha Macbeth: QT has the Italian version...
    Qt Core: ;)
SophiaSharon Larnia: did you mean that Ara, or a book scripted to be read in word, where the pages turn?
Wol Euler: my dears, I'm afraid I must be off. Things to see, people to do ...
Wol Euler: take care, be happy.
arabella Ella: yes this is the one i was refering to thanks !
SophiaSharon Larnia: for that id just use a full perm script and make my own
    Bleu Oleander: bye Wol
    arabella Ella: bye Wol
    Agatha Macbeth: Bye Wol
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Wol
Qt Core: bye wol, have fun
arabella Ella: you can actually make your own?
Bleu Oleander: bye all .... take care :)
    arabella Ella: bye Bleu
    Agatha Macbeth: Bye Bleu
    --BELL--
    Qt Core: bye
SophiaSharon Larnia: a book in world? well, id have to look and see if i have a book like that that is full perm, and use the script, or search in world to buy it
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Bleu
SophiaSharon Larnia: (buy the script) because i sure cant write the script
    arabella Ella: ah ok ty
SophiaSharon Larnia: but i could do everything else
Agatha Macbeth will now sling her hook folks. Bye all
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Agatha
arabella Ella: i must go too
SophiaSharon Larnia: the hardest part would be making the pages, i use gimp
    arabella Ella: nite all!
    arabella Ella: ah ty
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Ara have fun with your project :)
    arabella Ella: bye
SophiaSharon Larnia: i have to go too bye all :))
    Vanessaa Emerald: hi everyone
