Cosmicflower Ushimawa: Arch <3<3<3
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Cos <3 :)
Archmage Atlantis: Are you well this morning (I think it's still morning there :) )
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: Yes i am, abit tired though. Its about 11.10 am
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: I have woke up something about between 6 yo 7 am
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: last night
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: here was HUGE thunder with sky lots of lights
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: I remember not seen that kind of tunder before
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: some lightnings seemed to strike on earth too
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: I could not sleep, had just to look at it and wonder its beauty
Archmage Atlantis: We have had lighting and thunder almost every afternoon for at least a month.....but it is the rainy season for us.
Archmage Atlantis: Had one bolt strike near the house one day
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: here its been truly warm summer, so i wonder maby thats why also thunder was huge
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: there were 70 000 homes without electricity too last night
Archmage Atlantis: I imagine the climate this year has much to do with that, and the floods everywhere
Archmage Atlantis: Someone mentioned building an ark in a meeting yesterday *g*
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: ahh ;) wonderfull hehe
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: Hi Qt ;D
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, AT
Archmage Atlantis: QT
--BELL--
Qt Core: hi all
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: we were talking about thundering
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: we had last night in Finland huge thunder, I have ever seen sky with so bright lights, full of them
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: was very beautifull
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: and made me also feel my-self so tiny
Qt Core: there were some , not here but nearby, it keeps temps low
Archmage Atlantis: Lightening and thunder are a mixed blessing
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: voices was also quite huge
Archmage Atlantis: Just don't go out into a thunderstorm, or attempt to shelter under a tree
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: lol, yes
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: we were inside
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: but
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: usually I have gone outside to see all lightnings
Archmage Atlantis: But dramatic storms are a yearly thing here during hurricane season
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: ahh, well, those have not been so strong than this one was
Archmage Atlantis: We lose a few people to lightening every year
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: ohh, its interesting
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: how some do survive about it
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: when light is striked on person
Archmage Atlantis: Some who are struck do survive, but not all.......depends on the grounding and the strength of the lightening
Archmage Atlantis: Sometimes, those who survive have injuries that affect their lives from then on..........coaches are supposed to bring their teams of kids off the field if it looks like a storm is coming
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: I have read some interesting thigs about people who have been stired and started to talk different languages
Archmage Atlantis: Yes......even falling and hitting the head on the hard ground can cause the brain to change in odd ways
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: hehe, its interesting
Archmage Atlantis: The thing about the weather this year that has suprised me is how many "safe" areas have had flooding and high wind damage
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: how much there is on brains people do not know yeat
Archmage Atlantis: I've always expected a lot of Florida to be eventually taken back by rising ocean levels, but I never thought of so many inland places at higher altitudes being affected.
Qt Core: almost strangely this and past summer and past winter were "regular" cold winter, hot summer, with precipitation of the right types at the right times
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: yes
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: we had also same kind of phenomena
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: very cold winter with huge much snow
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: and truely warm summer
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: ;)
Archmage Atlantis: That isn't what I hear on the US news........supposedly this has been the hottest recorded summer on record.....and I don't remember the degree of flooding we've had before.......still, if we've adapted to weather that is cooler and drier, dunno
--BELL--
Qt Core: speaking about flood and losing land to it we have the Mose project to (try to) protect Venezia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOSE_Project
Qt Core: (note that we spell Moses as Mose, but with the e accented)
Archmage Atlantis: Ok, let me look, tks
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: hmm
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: I have not been in Venezia, would love to
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: thinking if that place is the same still than in "good old times" ;)
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: when Venez had its glory
Qt Core: been there twice with school... i even saw one of my teachers falling in a canal :-)
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: oohhh
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: hoh
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: was this teacher drinking something?? Hehe
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: I have kind of feel of Venez to be a city of Love and Romance
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: and parties
Cosmicflower Ushimawa: just a sec
Archmage Atlantis: Venice has been dealing with the rising waters problem for centuries
Archmage Atlantis: The Dutch have a ingenious system in place also
Qt Core: he was so sure we should turn right at a turn that he didn't notice the steps he got to went direct in the water
Archmage Atlantis: We would rather drill oil wells and pollute the Gulf of Mexico for short term profite......although hopefully that will change some
Archmage Atlantis: Your teacher's incident sounds a lot like what happens a lot with cars here.......there are canals everywhere along the roadside, and people miss turns in their cars and drive into them
Archmage Atlantis: Unfortunately, a high percentage drown
Qt Core: ouch, more dangerous in a car
Archmage Atlantis: Yep, it is
Archmage Atlantis: Not as humorous or romantic, either :)
Qt Core: speaking about Venezia, in past day was discovered a traffic of falke Murano glasses
Qt Core: hi Bert
Bertram Jacobus: godmorning everybody ! ... :-)
--BELL--
Archmage Atlantis: Hi Bert
Bertram Jacobus: i was once in venezia and it was a nearly mystical experience (!) ... :-)
Qt Core: the two time i was there was to see some museum exhibit so i hadn't the time (or wisdom at that age) to feel the city
Archmage Atlantis: Ok, now I know what Murano glass is :)
Bertram Jacobus: i think i was lucky that i had very nice circumstances at that time ...
Qt Core: if you search on youtube you can find a video where a murano worker create such masterpiece under your eyes
Bertram Jacobus: oh - nice
Archmage Atlantis: Any chance to visit another place, even if close by, is enjoyable and learning in some fashion
Archmage Atlantis: Ok, I'll look for it later.......I've been to the Steuben Glassworks in NY, that was very interesting.....that was years ago tho
Archmage Atlantis: Every once in a while there will be a glass blower at an annual arts & crafts show
Bertram Jacobus: are they the same steubens where the parade´s names comes from ?
Bertram Jacobus: hi darren
Darren Islar: hi guys
Archmage Atlantis: I don't know Bert
Qt Core: hi Darreb
Qt Core: Darren
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Darren
Archmage Atlantis: Which parade, Bert?
Bertram Jacobus: the steuben parade in new york
Archmage Atlantis: Oh, Wikipedia to the rescue
Archmage Atlantis: Not directly, apparently......but perhaps there is some distant relationship
Bertram Jacobus: ah yes - see it now : the glassworks are more modern ?
Archmage Atlantis: If Wikipedia is correct, the founders of Stuben Glassworks weren't even named Steubin
--BELL--
Darren Islar: Arch likes napping :)
Darren Islar: ah, sorry
Archmage Atlantis: :) zzzzzzzzz
Archmage Atlantis: It's ok, it's true.
Bertram Jacobus: is there an explanation why the glass has that name ?
Archmage Atlantis: I couldn't find an explanation, even on their official website........I'm sure it is recorded somewhere tho
Bertram Jacobus: strange ... :-)
Archmage Atlantis: One of the most well know ad firms in the US, Ogilvy & Mather, I think, got it's name by combining the one founders name with the name of his dog
Archmage Atlantis: He thought that having 2 partners in the firm would sell better
Bertram Jacobus: hehe. yes, we have similar sources of names givings here in germany , too ... :-)
Archmage Atlantis: :) - we humans are interesting animals *g*
Bertram Jacobus: sure ! but what when you say such to an creationist or evangelical !? ;-)
Darren Islar: with big ego's :)
Bertram Jacobus: i don´t like ego on the one hand
Bertram Jacobus: consider it as the causer of pain and suffering
Archmage Atlantis: That I respect his or her beliefs and I would appreciate it if he or she would give me the same curtesy........we can agree to disagree
Qt Core: i'd like to make most creationist read this: http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolib.../artificial_01
Darren Islar: there is also a not spiritual translation of ego
Bertram Jacobus: try to read and understand that later qt - thx
Qt Core: yw
Archmage Atlantis: Ah well, people are rarely convinced by challenging their belief system.....
Bertram Jacobus: beliefs are a bit like imaginations, right ?
Archmage Atlantis: A bit, yes
Bertram Jacobus: what are the differences ?
Archmage Atlantis: But the imagination is understood by the person as "a story" or "not scientific" or "not credible"..........A belief is held by a person as their own view of what is real
Archmage Atlantis: It's more than that, but that is a flavor of the difference
Archmage Atlantis: That the world was flat was a belief centuries ago
Archmage Atlantis: What the town over the next hill looked like, or a story told for entertainment, required imagination
Bertram Jacobus: but the imaginations of for example tibetan buddhism ... may be also "a bit" different from what may be normally understood by imagination (?) ...
--BELL--
Archmage Atlantis: Atheism, Islam, Christanity and Buddhism would all be considered beliefs......ways of seeing what exits in particular system of ideas
Archmage Atlantis: * in a
Archmage Atlantis: Of course, there are many variations of all of those examples.....they vary by person, by culture, by experience
Archmage Atlantis: Of, course, what I am saying her is only my understanding
Archmage Atlantis: Others may understand things differently
Archmage Atlantis: *here
Bertram Jacobus: i think buddhism claims to see the world as it really is ... hm , at least some so called "lines" , sections - don´t know how express better, rsy ...
Qt Core: well every school/religion/philosophy believe to see things as they really are, how someone could support something that expressly say not to be right ?
Archmage Atlantis: I would agree that Buddism has less dogma than other beliefs, yes..........dogma is fixed belief, not subject to question
Archmage Atlantis: An interesting question, QT :)
Qt Core: ;)
Qt Core: Hi Susan
Bertram Jacobus: ah - there you are already - hy susan ! :-)
Darren Islar: well, I wouldn't have said that Buddhism claims to see the world as it really is
Darren Islar: because I still don't know what that means in terms of Buddhism
Darren Islar: hey Susan :)
Bertram Jacobus: therefore i said - some lines claim that darren - but why do you disagree plz ?
Susan Aloix: Hey Darren :)
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Susan
Susan Aloix: Hey Arch :)
Qt Core: yes, it is a rough way to say it but everyone think he/she is (mostly) right
Bertram Jacobus: ah. hm. "okay"
Darren Islar: reality seems in Buddhism the source of exploring, examination, things like that
Qt Core: time to go, bye all
Darren Islar: bye QT
Susan Aloix: bye QT
Bertram Jacobus: bye qt ...
Archmage Atlantis: bye QT
Darren Islar: because reality itself is looked upon in different ways in Buddhism
Darren Islar: depending on your level of development I suppose
Archmage Atlantis: An interesting discussion, and an interesting meeting :) ....... I also need to go, unfortunately
--BELL--
Darren Islar: and the way you practice
Darren Islar: bye Arch
Archmage Atlantis: Blessings and Namaste, all :)
Bertram Jacobus: bye arch ... for the log ...
Susan Aloix: yeah for the log...bye arch :)
Bertram Jacobus: :-)
Darren Islar: but I agree that Buddhism is less dogmatic for having no God to answer to
Susan Aloix: :) i missed a great discussion it appears ....i will catch you both again later :)
Bertram Jacobus: yes. that is one of the to me interesting points ...
Darren Islar: bye Susan :)
Bertram Jacobus: that meanss you leave susan ? ah - yes - bye , c u ! *wave* ...
Susan Aloix: bye for now. Namaste Darren...bye Bertram :) Namaste
Susan Aloix: Yes Bertram,. take care
Bertram Jacobus: Ok
