The Guardian for this meeting was Bruce Mowbray (although he was either invisible or knocked off-line by electrical storms for most of the session.)

Alfred Kelberry: good to see you, pema :)

    --BELL–

    Pema Pera: same here!
Alfred Kelberry: btw, be careful, pema. i heard that you got this superbug in holland.
    Pema Pera: Hi Bruce!
    Pema Pera: superbug?
    Alfred Kelberry: a virus
    Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Pema .
    Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Alfred.
Alfred Kelberry: immune to all antibiotics
Alfred Kelberry: it seems to be airborne
Pema Pera: I hadn't heard about that yet
Alfred Kelberry: i've just seen it today on cnn
Alfred Kelberry: and heard from a dutch friend
Pema Pera: (Bruce, I can only see your hair, perhaps my lag?)
Alfred Kelberry: yes, hair for me too
Alfred Kelberry: or maybe he's just wearing hair :)
Bruce Mowbray: I've just changed my shirt and it takes a while to rezz --
Pema Pera: I first thought that Alfred's superbug was Bruce, until I recognized it as hair :)
Bruce Mowbray: Have either of you claimed this session?
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
    Pema Pera: no
Bruce Mowbray: OK -- I am sighed up for it so I will do that now.
Pema Pera: did you volunteer, Bruce?
Pema Pera: ah, thanks a lot!
Bruce Mowbray: 'm trying to force my shirt to rezz.
Pema Pera: I came in quite unexpected: it's 5 am in Japan, but I guess I still have jet lag, woke up early
Alfred Kelberry: oh, back in japan, pema - nice
Pema Pera: did you succeed in claiming the log, Bruce?
    Pema Pera: ah!
    Pema Pera: claimed! thank you.
Alfred Kelberry: bruce, in this case i can suggest you a simpler av... like mine :)
Pema Pera: well, if Bruce had an avatar without hair, he might be completely invisible by now :-)
Alfred Kelberry: pema, if i'm not mistaken, there's a concept of "no way" in something that you discussed, right?
Pema Pera: yes, here and there, in various ways :)
    Alfred Kelberry: ok, well.. :)
Alfred Kelberry: i've had an interesting connection to this concept, from a rather unexpected source - bruce lee :)
Pema Pera: Bruce Lee has said some interesting things.
Alfred Kelberry: yes, i watched "enter the dragon" recently and this is where it was mentioned :)
Pema Pera: btw, Bruce, we don't mind talking to only you hair, but if you prefer to be completely present, one option would be to just exit and return, to see whether that helps; your claimed session will continue and later you'll get the whole log, including the time that you were absent
Bruce Mowbray: I shall try that. Thanks.
Pema Pera: I haven't seen that; what did he say, Alfred?
Alfred Kelberry: i don't remember the exact words, but he was talking to his master and he asked about his style. "there's no style" he answered :)
Alfred Kelberry: then the same about "what's the point"
    Pema Pera: that's a nice answer :)
    Pema Pera: hi Bruce, wb!
Pema Pera: Alas, I can still only see your hair
Bruce Mowbray: There is a severe storm about to hit -- and that might be contributing to the problem.
Alfred Kelberry: later i read his wiki page and found that he actually founded a school which has no particular way
Pema Pera: but not to worry, we can continue to talk, and you can sort it out later (via rebaking? or some other way?)
Alfred Kelberry: you might call it eclectic. he took parts from different teachings.
Pema Pera: well, in PaB we have no particular way either, so yes, that resonates
Alfred Kelberry: yes, i found it so peculiar. such connection in a such unexpected place and so distant in time :)

    --BELL–

Alfred Kelberry: i must say, though. the original feelings of the movie (when i was a kid) were much brighter :)
Alfred Kelberry: in a sense, i'm somewhat sorry i've watched it again :)
Alfred Kelberry: but then, i would never know about this "no way" connection :)
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, adoro -- Good to see you again.
Pema Pera: yes, movies come across very differently at different ages!
    adoro Rhapsody: hi all
    Pema Pera: Hi Adoro!
    Alfred Kelberry: just like books
    adoro Rhapsody: hi pema
Pema Pera: btw, Bruce, is that map around the Dayton, Ohio area?
    Alfred Kelberry: or anything really
Bruce Mowbray: it includes that area - but I am about 65 miles east of there - and south of Columbus 45 miles.
adoro Rhapsody: i hear orinoko music
    Pema Pera: hi Calvino!
Bruce Mowbray: So I will probably get knocked off-line in a few minutes by the storm.
Alfred Kelberry: it must be cal :)
    adoro Rhapsody: hi cal
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Cal.
    Alfred Kelberry: oh, a storm
Pema Pera: well, in that case enjoy the elements, Bruce!
    Calvino Rabeni: Hi, everyone :)
    Alfred Kelberry: i like storms
Bruce Mowbray: Oh yes! But will that affect my receiving the full log?
Pema Pera: no, not at all
    Bruce Mowbray: ok -- Thanks.
Pema Pera: as soon as you claim it, it will be yours and will be delivered later
Pema Pera: like ordering by amazon :-)
Alfred Kelberry: what's in your hand, cal? :)
Pema Pera: as soon as the last guardian leaves
    Alfred Kelberry: magic wand?
Pema Pera: ah, you didn't have to do that, btw
Pema Pera: but it doesn't hurt either
Pema Pera: the log will be delivered to the last person who claimed it
Alfred Kelberry: hmm, a "talking stick"
    adoro Rhapsody: like indians ?
Pema Pera: and it will contain all that is said from the moment the first recognized PaB guardian appears hear till the last one leaves
Alfred Kelberry: it does look indian
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, that's the origin of this "device" :)
adoro Rhapsody: kind of estafette styick for discussion ?
Alfred Kelberry: what does a talking stick do?
adoro Rhapsody: sticks cannot do anything
    adoro Rhapsody: the owner can
    Pema Pera: :)
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, touch this one i placed by the pool here
adoro Rhapsody: indians who have the stick may say something
Alfred Kelberry: they can induce emotions
Calvino Rabeni: It is a way of having one person at a time be respected by the group and listened to
Alfred Kelberry: when you look at it, you feel a certain way
Alfred Kelberry: ok, cal is talking now :)
    adoro Rhapsody: onigokko
Calvino Rabeni: And know that - it's been held by hundreds of speakers and may "contain" thousands of stories
    adoro Rhapsody: stop
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
adoro Rhapsody: wow it works !!!
    Pema Pera: :-)
    adoro Rhapsody: sorry for interrupting
Alfred Kelberry: not on cardboard robots, though
    adoro Rhapsody: now is silence
Alfred Kelberry: talking stick has a price
    Alfred Kelberry: 50 lindens
adoro Rhapsody: Bruce where is blub ?
Bruce Mowbray: Blub has taken cover from the storm --- and I might need to do the same very soon.
Pema Pera: just read your note card for the stick, Calvino, nice idea!
    adoro Rhapsody: i see
Alfred Kelberry: bruce, you get them often in this area?
adoro Rhapsody: i saw avideoclip for blub on youtube
adoro Rhapsody: i shared it in the past Pab meeting
Alfred Kelberry: em, what is blub exactly?
    Pema Pera: Hi Mark!

    --BELL–

Bruce Mowbray: Blub is a blue fish. . . I shall call him out of the storm cellar...
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Mark. Good to see you again.
    adoro Rhapsody: hi mark
Alfred Kelberry: oh, yes... your pet
MarkMonet Thor: Hello adora, and all. Nice to see you.
    adoro Rhapsody: hi blub
Alfred Kelberry: monet as in Monet the painter?
adoro Rhapsody: mark's shirt is invisible too
    MarkMonet Thor: Yes
    MarkMonet Thor: Smiles
Pema Pera: I'll be taking off -- good seeing you all here!
Alfred Kelberry: given his outfit, i don't think he has a shirt :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone
    Calvino Rabeni: Bye, Pema
Pema Pera: hello and goodbye Yaku!
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Yaku.
Alfred Kelberry: sleep well, pema :)
adoro Rhapsody: bye pema goede dag !
Pema Pera: yes, I'll take another nap, I think
    Bruce Mowbray: Thanks, Pema.
    Alfred Kelberry: mzzl :)
Pema Pera: tot ziens, adoro :)
    Pema Pera: bfn
adoro Rhapsody: goed werk hier !
    adoro Rhapsody: hi yak
    MarkMonet Thor: Yak, Hello
Alfred Kelberry: i like Monet paintings
    adoro Rhapsody: me too
adoro Rhapsody: not so high definition
    Alfred Kelberry: calming
MarkMonet Thor: Exactly. The word I was looking for
MarkMonet Thor: And one with a sensuous nature
adoro Rhapsody: monet could illustrate spheres
    adoro Rhapsody: emotions
MarkMonet Thor: He painted a form of impressionism, and fathered some of it
adoro Rhapsody: more than Van Gogh
    adoro Rhapsody: or mondriaan
adoro Rhapsody: but i am proud of dutch painters
    Bruce Mowbray: http://www.google.com/images?hl=&q=Monet&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS328US328&ie=UTF-8&biw=997&bih=663
    adoro Rhapsody: superb !
    Alfred Kelberry: adoro, "illustrate spheres"?
adoro Rhapsody: yes i mean express emotions
    adoro Rhapsody: of nature
    MarkMonet Thor: Im calling
    MarkMonet Thor: IM
    Alfred Kelberry: oh
Alfred Kelberry: is there Monet museum in Amsterdam?
    adoro Rhapsody: sure
adoro Rhapsody: and in the hagues
    adoro Rhapsody: the Hague
Alfred Kelberry: eh, i missed it then
    Alfred Kelberry: well, next time
    adoro Rhapsody: its temporary exhibitions
    Alfred Kelberry: aha
adoro Rhapsody: in gemeentemuseum or mauritshuis in The Hague
    Alfred Kelberry: eliza :)
    adoro Rhapsody: hi eliza
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Everyone :)
Alfred Kelberry: oh... hi, yaku - i didn't notice you :)
Alfred Kelberry: you're stealth as a ninja :)
Eliza Madrigal: It takes a long time to rezz lately... Bruce is just hair and Blub
    Eliza Madrigal: then two clouds...
Alfred Kelberry: and dressed accordingly :)
Bruce Mowbray: How about the Reijksmuseum?
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Eliza.
adoro Rhapsody: come out of the box Alfred !
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, it's still only hair and bulb for me :)
Alfred Kelberry: adoro, it's open :)
Alfred Kelberry: see my ears? :)
Eliza Madrigal: I can't even tell if Alfred is sitting on a cushion! I may be missing my one chance to see that
    adoro Rhapsody: ok isee
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, sitting is a dangerous activity for tinies
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, adoro appears... and there is tiny Alfred :)
    adoro Rhapsody: wow
    Eliza Madrigal: Hiya cutie :)
    Alfred Kelberry: oi :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :) Oh...
Alfred Kelberry: thought i'd say hello in person :)
Bruce Mowbray is doing everything he know to rezz. I've been here 45 minutes so far and still have not become visible, apparently.
    Eliza Madrigal: Oi :)

    --BELL–
    blub_002.jpg
Alfred Kelberry: bruce, you're very visible, believe me :)
Eliza Madrigal: you are not 'being seen' by me Bruce... Maybe Blub is doing it...
Eliza Madrigal: He's quite clear ;-)
Alfred Kelberry imagines sleeping pema in Tokyo
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: hope I haven't sidetracked the conversation with my lateness
Alfred Kelberry: he's been here, eliza, but had to go for a nap :)
Eliza Madrigal greatly approves of naps
Alfred Kelberry: i think you gracefully continued it :)
    adoro Rhapsody: onigokko
    Alfred Kelberry: crazy people :)
Eliza Madrigal: guess adoro wanted to wake us up
adoro Rhapsody: crazy after all those years
    adoro Rhapsody: stop
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Eliza Madrigal: do you have onigokko animation Alfred? :)
    adoro Rhapsody: sure
adoro Rhapsody: good for condition of avatars
    Eliza Madrigal: haha, yes
Alfred Kelberry: it doesn't affect cardboard robots, eliza :)
Eliza Madrigal: Oh, you are immune!
    Alfred Kelberry: :P
Alfred Kelberry: does not compute :)
Eliza Madrigal: Today I attended presentation which started with "Some people say think outside the box, but we say What box?"
    Alfred Kelberry: good question
Alfred Kelberry: what presentation was it?
Eliza Madrigal: I thought they might have eavesdropped on PaB
    Eliza Madrigal: hah
    adoro Rhapsody: coming out ?
Eliza Madrigal: It was for a school my daughter will attend next year
Eliza Madrigal: a school specializing in research
    Eliza Madrigal: environmental things, etc
adoro Rhapsody: or thinking out of the box ?
    Alfred Kelberry: oh, interesting
Eliza Madrigal: thinking out of the box... coloring outside the lines
    adoro Rhapsody: great
Eliza Madrigal: I think if you can 'be' a box, then you can know how a box thinks...
Eliza Madrigal: Is that true Alfred? >grin<
Alfred Kelberry: glad for your daughter. it sounds like a great environment to be.
    Alfred Kelberry: em...
Eliza Madrigal: I think it will be... amazing people associated with it
    Alfred Kelberry: i can envision
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: uh oh... Bruce is offline
Alfred Kelberry: must be the storm
Eliza Madrigal: I see Cal's talking stick... is the reason he isn't talking that it is too far from him? :)
Alfred Kelberry: is it a private school?
Eliza Madrigal: No actually... that is part of what is most interesting
Alfred Kelberry: he's got one in his very hands :)
Calvino Rabeni: Eliza I placed it there because it gives a notecard of information
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, okay... will click
    Alfred Kelberry clicks too
Alfred Kelberry: i didn't before cause you never know what will happen when you click a talking stick
    Eliza Madrigal: interesting
    Eliza Madrigal: yes true...
    adoro Rhapsody: thnx Yak
Eliza Madrigal: a talking stick might be an av in SL....
Eliza Madrigal: A very nice idea though...
Alfred Kelberry: "Whatever the object, it carries respect for free speech and assures the speaker he has the freedom and power to say what is in his heart without fear of reprisal or humiliation." - i like it
Eliza Madrigal: in application difficult to use here, like with dream circle and passing the stone
Calvino Rabeni: It might need a little scripting help
Eliza Madrigal: So is the idea that whatever is said by the person with the talking stick is 'forgotten' afterward if need be?
adoro Rhapsody: how to get a talking stick ?
adoro Rhapsody: must we buy one ?
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, it's up to you how you take a speech :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :) guess so...
Eliza Madrigal: back to the personal responsibility thing eh
Alfred Kelberry: but you can't oppress the person
Eliza Madrigal: I generally try not to
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
adoro Rhapsody: so calvino may say something ?

    --BELL–

    Alfred Kelberry: yes, please
adoro Rhapsody: and we may listen ?
Eliza Madrigal: Cal might be multitasking at another site?
    adoro Rhapsody: multi talking
Calvino Rabeni: sorry, - very hot here, I went for lemonade :)
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    adoro Rhapsody: multi stick ?
Alfred Kelberry: maybe he's out of words :)
Eliza Madrigal: shake them out of the stick...
Calvino Rabeni: The stick remembers all :)
adoro Rhapsody: but when u don't have a stick you don't may say anything ?
Eliza Madrigal wonders if it feels the same online when everyone looks at someone like "okay, be funny"
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, no, you can't shake it
adoro Rhapsody: emotions are real here in SL
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Alfred Kelberry: no oppression, remember? :)
Calvino Rabeni: That is how it works in the wisdom circle, when the stick is in use, its holder gets the attention
Eliza Madrigal: can only shake a stick at something else...
    Eliza Madrigal: Ah, I see
Eliza Madrigal: More you can say about the wisdom circle, Cal?
adoro Rhapsody: well u have my attention
Calvino Rabeni: It helps everyone concentrate, both the speaker and the listeners
    adoro Rhapsody: ok
Calvino Rabeni: but, this one is not "on duty" :)
Calvino Rabeni: So everyone is free to speak any time :)
Alfred Kelberry: it's in a safe-guard mode then
    Eliza Madrigal sees adoro's disappointment
Alfred Kelberry: i see adoro's away
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Eliza Madrigal: alfred, did you know that you were one the first avs I ever saw online in SL?
    Alfred Kelberry: huh?
    Alfred Kelberry: how so?
Eliza Madrigal: yes... when I first signed on... at a coffee shop
    Alfred Kelberry: hmm...
Calvino Rabeni: Attitudes and customs of speaking and choosing are different for every culture
Eliza Madrigal: Of course you are unforgettable, with your scarves :)
Alfred Kelberry: i'm glad it was me :)
    Eliza Madrigal nods @ Cal
    Eliza Madrigal smiles :)
Alfred Kelberry: i like it when a talking stick holder can just sit in silence
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, sometimes it works as a "not talking-stick" :)
    Alfred Kelberry: speak via silence
Calvino Rabeni: I have at times used it in that way
Alfred Kelberry: well, it does talk :)
    Alfred Kelberry: just not verbal
adoro Rhapsody: sorry i was interrupted
    Eliza Madrigal: no worries adoro
Alfred Kelberry: i'd like to imagine how is it to stand in front of say 10 thousand people and just... be silent for a minute :)
adoro Rhapsody: have i missed something ?
    Alfred Kelberry: not much, adoro
adoro Rhapsody: for u or for the public ?
adoro Rhapsody: or for both ?
Alfred Kelberry: eliza thought that you got disappointed
    adoro Rhapsody: not at all
Alfred Kelberry: for me as a speaker
Eliza Madrigal: Hah... yes there was a moment you were waiting for cal to speak , and then went 'away'
Alfred Kelberry: 10 thousand waiting eyes and ears
    Alfred Kelberry: must be something
Eliza Madrigal: but what a good tool a 'pregnant pause' can b generally... IF one is allowed to take it
Calvino Rabeni: I was reading about a study of choice in hospitals - in America the family is given choice what to do about the dying relative - in France, the doctor more often decides - then upon death, the American family feels traumatized, but also doesn't want to give up the choice
Eliza Madrigal: if one has the floor, it can be taken, but in day to day conversations most often people fill the space
    Eliza Madrigal: Interesting Cal
Eliza Madrigal: In America we like to have the illusion or appearance of control
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, want it, even if it is a burden or an illusion
Eliza Madrigal: yes... it is like a bobble... pretense of power
Alfred Kelberry: cal, doctor decides? like what?
adoro Rhapsody: the clothes of the emperor ?
Eliza Madrigal: it is why people always 'look busy' here too... to seem important
Calvino Rabeni: like which medication treatment to use for the terminally ill
Calvino Rabeni: and none of them works
Alfred Kelberry: cal, well, this would be up to a doctor, no? he's a doctor, after all

    --BELL–

Alfred Kelberry: eliza, yes, the busy part is so true. it's cool to be busy :)
Eliza Madrigal: :) even if one is just holding the phone telling the neighbor about what they are about to order for lunch...
Eliza Madrigal: if one looks stressed and hurried they seem like they are up to something important . Haha
Eliza Madrigal: there is a class even... to teach people how to appear busy
    Alfred Kelberry: really?
    adoro Rhapsody: image building
Eliza Madrigal: yes, but most people learn this easily in school so its fine :)
Calvino Rabeni: No, it varies by country - in USA the doctor gives information, but doesn't make the decision, leaving that burden to the patients - (not always, of course)
    Eliza Madrigal: sigh
    adoro Rhapsody: personal branding
Alfred Kelberry: i often think maybe it's a time management issue :)
Eliza Madrigal: yes, it must be...
Calvino Rabeni: It's an interesting study, where choice becomes a liability or alienating sometimes, in spite of the idea - that one cannot have to much of a "good thing"
    Calvino Rabeni: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDq9-QxvsNU
Calvino Rabeni: the short version :)
    Eliza Madrigal: thanks... clicking...
Alfred Kelberry: sl + flash video = bad :)
Eliza Madrigal: oh, wait... almost 30 minutes...
Eliza Madrigal: will have to be saved :)
Calvino Rabeni: Well, maybe some of the side links are shorter :)
    adoro Rhapsody: time management
Alfred Kelberry: see how "short" can be relative :)
Calvino Rabeni: It's shorter than the book :)
    Eliza Madrigal: hahah adoro, yes
Calvino Rabeni: Only 30 minutes, not 9 CDs
    Eliza Madrigal: yes quite relative
Eliza Madrigal: what a tricky issue though, because one does want the options of getting second opinions, etc
Eliza Madrigal: even at the brink
adoro Rhapsody: 5 minutes in waiting room by dentist is longer than 5 minutes in cosy birthday party
Eliza Madrigal: 5 minutes in a dentist waiting room is longer than 45 minutes in a bath tub
adoro Rhapsody: some moments are timeless
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Calvino Rabeni: I know a dying man who was given all those choices by the medical professionals
Alfred Kelberry: cal, you say that choice becomes a liability. isn't it obvious?
Calvino Rabeni: He thought about it a while, and then decided "no treatment" just die
Calvino Rabeni: the doctors were puzzled -
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, this could be a MasterCard commercial :)
Calvino Rabeni: and then later confided in him - yes, that is what *I* would have done
Calvino Rabeni: if it were my personal choice
Eliza Madrigal: This is a story of little girl and her scarf wearing box friend...
Calvino Rabeni: In USA, people presume that choice is something done alone, by individuals, without help
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Calvino Rabeni: In other countries, people often have both coercion and help
Eliza Madrigal: we all have help but again, like to appear not to
Alfred Kelberry: well, you can always aks for an opinion
Calvino Rabeni: and they don't need to "do it alone" for hard choices
Alfred Kelberry: but ultimately, the answer is yours
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Aphrodite :)
Calvino Rabeni: But where there's a social expectation of how it works, people don't feel comfortable going against it
Calvino Rabeni: even though physically able to do so :)
    Eliza Madrigal nods
Calvino Rabeni: they could be seen as weak, indecisive, lacking a clear sense of self, etc.
    Alfred Kelberry: ah, social norms
Alfred Kelberry: an elevator experiment is lovely
    Eliza Madrigal: ?
Calvino Rabeni: And other people might be uncomfortable giving their opinion or advice
Yakuzza Lethecus: the activation of elderly schema ?
    adoro Rhapsody: comfortaably numb
    adoro Rhapsody: comfottably
    adoro Rhapsody: fortably
    Alfred Kelberry: eliza, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBlOX3PaVKs
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hi there!
    Yakuzza Lethecus: hi aph
    adoro Rhapsody: hi aph
    Calvino Rabeni: Hello, Aphrodite
Aphrodite Macbain: Alfred you are indeed a strange and wondrous sight
    Alfred Kelberry: em...
adoro Rhapsody: he is coming out of the box some day
    Alfred Kelberry: thank you? :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Of course. strange and wondrous is what we're all about
    Aphrodite Macbain: wondrous
Eliza Madrigal giggling... what a great video... reminds me of myself on a subway recently
Alfred Kelberry: do tell, eliza :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: ??
Calvino Rabeni: Sometimes people carry a ball of anxiety "inside" - not comfortable / numb - but it kind of unwinds if the social norms say they can open it to being seen by others
Eliza Madrigal: Oh... figuring out which side would open, etc
Eliza Madrigal: only to realize I was on the wrong train
    Eliza Madrigal: heheh
    Alfred Kelberry: oh yes :)
    adoro Rhapsody: i see
Alfred Kelberry: even when you know it's this side, but then... maybe it's changed :)
Eliza Madrigal greatly enjoys exposing her own ridiculousness... its 'clown nature'

    --BELL–

Aphrodite Macbain: Yes Calvino, I guess that's why PAB is so great. It creates and environment where you can unclench
    Eliza Madrigal: Yes exactly Alfred!
    Eliza Madrigal: mmmm, nods Aphrodite
    adoro Rhapsody: sure
    Eliza Madrigal: medicinal pauses
Alfred Kelberry: the power of conformity
    Aphrodite Macbain: ?
    adoro Rhapsody: comply or explain
    Aphrodite Macbain: conformity=comfort?
Eliza Madrigal: It is amazing how uncomfortable the pauses can be for some...
Eliza Madrigal: for myself some days I still notice it....
    adoro Rhapsody: sorry
Alfred Kelberry: aphrodite, watch the video, you'll understand :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBlOX3PaVKs
    Alfred Kelberry: 2 min
Aphrodite Macbain: Alfred you have a magnificent way of expressing yourself
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Bruce, WB
    Aphrodite Macbain: Hello Bruce!
adoro Rhapsody: hi bruce and blub
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, again. Storms have blown over now.
adoro Rhapsody: u seem to have harry potter hair
Alfred Kelberry: uh oh... how's that, aphrodite? :)
Aphrodite Macbain: we're all feeling comfortably numb here How's your comfort level
Eliza Madrigal: hm, yes, Bruce is having a good hair day but the rest hm...
Alfred Kelberry: wb, bruce and blub :)
    adoro Rhapsody: Hey!
Aphrodite Macbain: I like your beak Alf
Bruce Mowbray: You mean I am STILL not rezzed???
Eliza Madrigal: well not for me...
Eliza Madrigal: you are hair with a blub swimming round and round
Aphrodite Macbain: nope just your hair and blub
Bruce Mowbray: This is ridiculous -- I was here for 45 minutes earlier -- and still didn't rezz.
adoro Rhapsody: the rest seems to be air
Bruce Mowbray: OK -- please go ahead with your conversation...
    Alfred Kelberry: em, beak?
    Bruce Mowbray: sorry to interrupt.
Calvino Rabeni: Bruce has achieved "No Self"
Aphrodite Macbain: I have been having that trouble too
    adoro Rhapsody: emptyness
Alfred Kelberry: cal, give him the stick :)
Aphrodite Macbain: looks like a beak to me
Calvino Rabeni: Enjoy it while it lasts I guess
Eliza Madrigal: :) bruce is formless
Alfred Kelberry: oh, its must be my scarf :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: just being
    Aphrodite Macbain: Being Bruce
Aphrodite Macbain: Was it a wild storm Bruce? Maybe it blew you away
    Aphrodite Macbain: blew
    Eliza Madrigal: hahaha
Bruce Mowbray: not too wild -- but we were desperate for rain - so I'm grateful for what we got.
Eliza Madrigal: non-conformist... everyone else thinks they have to 'appear'
adoro Rhapsody: to be or to seem to be
Alfred Kelberry: i think Bruce is appearing just fine
Eliza Madrigal: we can't see the wind... just the effects....
adoro Rhapsody: he seems to be here
adoro Rhapsody: but we cannot see him
Calvino Rabeni: And how were the meteors, Bruce, did you see / get seen by many?
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, you can say it about everything :)
adoro Rhapsody: so we must believe he is here
    Eliza Madrigal: indeed alfred!
Bruce Mowbray: I only saw a few meteors -- didn't wish to stay up until 4-5 a.m. when they said most of them would come through.
Alfred Kelberry: took a picture, Bruce?
Bruce Mowbray: Perhaps I was seen by more meteors than I saw.
    Calvino Rabeni: :)
    Bruce Mowbray: no pictures.
    adoro Rhapsody: wow
adoro Rhapsody: we have a ghost here
adoro Rhapsody: or a host /
    adoro Rhapsody: ?
Aphrodite Macbain: I just can't stay up that late. I guess hey have been recorded and are on the web
    Aphrodite Macbain: they
    adoro Rhapsody: ok
Eliza Madrigal: It was a rather clear night here that night, but still not quite enough
Bruce Mowbray: yes, our local news stations showed some good photos taken by folks in this area.
Eliza Madrigal: lots of light pollution
Aphrodite Macbain: I guess none of you are going to the conference in Boston
    Eliza Madrigal: second life conference?
Aphrodite Macbain: Have any o you gone to the web site?
    Aphrodite Macbain: Yes
    adoro Rhapsody: not yet
Aphrodite Macbain: It's on till tomorrow
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, no... might be fun some year
adoro Rhapsody: what is the url ?
Eliza Madrigal: I did see a program
Aphrodite Macbain: I'd be curious to put face to names Like Rhiann
    Eliza Madrigal smiles
Calvino Rabeni: Once there was a full solar eclipse. People traveled miles to be able to see it. When it finally came, a great shadow passed over the land. It was awesome. Many people there ran indoors to watch it on TV because they felt the view was better from there.
Aphrodite Macbain: It's given to you as you log on
Alfred Kelberry: so, everyone is expected to come in their sl avs? :)
    Aphrodite Macbain: those on line..
Eliza Madrigal: you could do that more easily than most alfred
adoro Rhapsody: can we teleport to it ?
Alfred Kelberry: em, yea, kind of
Alfred Kelberry: oh, tp would be awesome
    Alfred Kelberry: one day...
    Bruce Mowbray: brb, folks.
Eliza Madrigal: I do wonder about the '2-3 steps removed from everything' way of life modern society encourages
    Aphrodite Macbain: Good luck
Eliza Madrigal: and yet it isn't clear cut. It isn't like less tech would address that...

    --BELL–

Aphrodite Macbain: you mean to watch something on TV that is in your own back yard?
Eliza Madrigal: because like with PaB, tech can also be a tool to be more 'direct'
    Eliza Madrigal: yes
Aphrodite Macbain: right now Bruce is having the opposite problem. only when things work
Eliza Madrigal: I've had friendships with people that didn't blossom until we exchanged emails...
Calvino Rabeni: But more discrimination might help a little
    Eliza Madrigal: true
Aphrodite Macbain: correctly, technology has it advantages
Aphrodite Macbain: interesting - as though having an email makes you real!
adoro Rhapsody: i know ppl that blossom when we stopped mailing
    Aphrodite Macbain: an email address
Eliza Madrigal: yes, well what it did was loosen the roles...
    adoro Rhapsody: ok
Eliza Madrigal: so we may have met as fellow 'moms' or something... but not communicated as just 'us'
Eliza Madrigal: across many levels, etc
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, interesting fact about your email friend :)
Eliza Madrigal: therefore a friendship could translate
    Aphrodite Macbain: us being whom?
adoro Rhapsody: like brothers and sisters
Alfred Kelberry: may i ask what was the subject?
Calvino Rabeni: Why is it, the narrative so often has "is technology good/ bad?" but not so much about being thoughtful users?
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, well it has happened on a few occasions actually...
Aphrodite Macbain: technology and its ability to connect us - or not
Eliza Madrigal: but with one friend, she said "God you are not this funny offline"
    Alfred Kelberry: :)
Eliza Madrigal: took that as a great compliment. hahah
Aphrodite Macbain: OK your hair is here bruce
    adoro Rhapsody: and blub too
Calvino Rabeni: :) but, that could be taken as an invitation?
adoro Rhapsody: or a compliment ?
Eliza Madrigal: sure... afterward she gave me more room offline
Eliza Madrigal: we eased up with one another
Aphrodite Macbain: how did she give you more room?
Eliza Madrigal: were the types of friends that could be friends even when we didn't need to coordinate kids' activities, etc
Eliza Madrigal: well... it is an underlayer thing..
Eliza Madrigal: that often we get what we expect
    adoro Rhapsody: hi nirtak
    Nirtak McMillan smiles
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Nirtak :)
Nirtak McMillan: hello! i hope this isn't a private place?
Eliza Madrigal: not at all, welcome :)
    adoro Rhapsody: all inclusive
    Nirtak McMillan: great :-)
Alfred Kelberry: eliza, listen, this is what counselors could suggest to couples :)
Eliza Madrigal: we meet to talk about the nature of reality and such like, four times a day :)
Aphrodite Macbain: Hello Nirtak - welcome
Eliza Madrigal: Alfred, you mean to find other connecting places?
    Eliza Madrigal: unpredictable ones?
    Alfred Kelberry: yep
    Eliza Madrigal: makes sense
Alfred Kelberry: go exchange emails :)
Eliza Madrigal: hard to do 'deliberately' though
Alfred Kelberry: it takes time to sit and think
Eliza Madrigal: in 'order' to change a relationship
    Alfred Kelberry: then type
Alfred Kelberry: well, interesting approach anyway :)
Eliza Madrigal: nirtak, that is a notecard about the group :)
    Nirtak McMillan: oh okay
    Eliza Madrigal: yes, agree Alfred
Alfred Kelberry: with a working example :)
adoro Rhapsody: I had a present for blub
    adoro Rhapsody: on youtube
Eliza Madrigal: Nirtak, we record our sessions and place them on a wiki so that others in the group can read... do you might being included in that?
    adoro Rhapsody: search for:
Bruce Mowbray: cool -- I guess Blub is at least visible.
Eliza Madrigal: If not, no worries, we can edit your name, etc :)
    adoro Rhapsody: music miles gohana
Nirtak McMillan: uhm..i have no idea what these sessions are about...
    Aphrodite Macbain: and your hair
Nirtak McMillan: could u send me the card again?
    Eliza Madrigal: http://wiki.playasbeing.org/
adoro Rhapsody: it's a nice film and music
Eliza Madrigal: Oh sure... or we could just talk about it :)
adoro Rhapsody: i have to go now
    adoro Rhapsody: bye all
    Eliza Madrigal: bye adoro :)
Bruce Mowbray: Thank you, Eliza, for taking care of that introduction -- I'm a bit distracted at the moment with visibility issues.
    Bruce Mowbray: bye, adoro.
    Eliza Madrigal: no worries
Eliza Madrigal: you know there is a 'way' to be invisible intentionally but I've never figured it out
    Yakuzza Lethecus: night adoro
Aphrodite Macbain: bye adoro , je t'adore
Alfred Kelberry: Bruce is distracted by invisible issues :)
Aphrodite Macbain: You could be a fly on the wall
Eliza Madrigal: yes, though I think many people have radar
Eliza Madrigal: but might be cute to be invisible with a dress... or umbrella
Aphrodite Macbain: Are you OK Nirtak?
Eliza Madrigal: There you are, Bruce!
Aphrodite Macbain: Yay! what did you do
Bruce Mowbray: Did I finally become visible?
    Eliza Madrigal: YES
    Aphrodite Macbain: yes
Bruce Mowbray: I did nothing but WAIT and wait and wait some more.
    Eliza Madrigal: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: blue shirt ad all
Bruce Mowbray: Now, please tell me that I am wearing a blue shirt.
    Bruce Mowbray: cool. Thanks!
    Eliza Madrigal: snap
    Aphrodite Macbain: just did
Bruce Mowbray: My upload speed is the same a dial-up, unfortunately.
Alfred Kelberry: patience is a virtue to master in kung fu :)
Bruce Mowbray: so much for "technology" (and its users) ;-)
Eliza Madrigal: in kung fu and other places
Aphrodite Macbain: Now that you've become visible I must disappear. I enjoyed eating my lunch with you
    Eliza Madrigal: haha
    Eliza Madrigal: Bye Aphrodite
    Bruce Mowbray: bye, Aph.
Eliza Madrigal: I've also got to get going...
    Alfred Kelberry: yea, me too
Bruce Mowbray: bye, Eliza -- and thanks again.
    Bruce Mowbray: bye, Alfred.
Alfred Kelberry: it was nice seeing you all
    Alfred Kelberry: thank you
Eliza Madrigal: Thanks Bruce :) Bye everyone, nice to see you all :)
    Yakuzza Lethecus: night everyone

    --BELL–

    Miralee Munro: Hello Bruce
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Miralee.
Miralee Munro: Is there a session about to start?
Miralee Munro: I can never remember starting times.
Bruce Mowbray: May I ask, please, if you have been here before?
Miralee Munro: Yes ... once or twice.
Bruce Mowbray: OK -- Then you are aware that we publish the chat to the wiki -- and you have given your permission for that?
Miralee Munro: Yes, that's perfectly okay with me.
Bruce Mowbray: Thanks, Miralee. I've just given you a notecard, too.
    Miralee Munro: Thank you
    Bruce Mowbray: We meet around the clock at slt times: 1 a.m., 7 a.m., 1 p.m., 7 p.m.
Miralee Munro: there is quite awhile for the next session I see.
Calvino Rabeni: Storms where you are, eh?
    Miralee Munro: Hello Calvino
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, this one has been going on for over two hours.
Bruce Mowbray: Big storms here in Ohio, Cal.
Miralee Munro: Oh, there is a discussion going on here now?
Bruce Mowbray: and my satellite connection gets shuts down --
Calvino Rabeni: It is so clear here, that sunsets don't look like much - no clouds / layers at all
Bruce Mowbray: so if I disappear again, that's the reason.
Calvino Rabeni: Not really a discussion, Mir :)
Bruce Mowbray: There were about a dozen folks here earlier, Miralee, but all but two of us have departed.
Calvino Rabeni: I think there was - but then Bruce and I forgot to leave when it was over :)
    Miralee Munro smiles
Miralee Munro: I'm in America myself at the moment
Bruce Mowbray: Was there something in particular that you wanted to chat about, Miralee?
Miralee Munro: I live in Australia usually
Bruce Mowbray: really -- an Aussi -- COOOOOL!
Miralee Munro: Oh no ... not particularly
Miralee Munro: I'm in San Francisco at the moment
    Bruce Mowbray: ok.
    Calvino Rabeni: Right
Bruce Mowbray: I just explained to Calvino that I'm about to be knocked off the Internet by approaching storms.
Calvino Rabeni: well that might be relatively cool
    Miralee Munro smiles
Miralee Munro: I read before I came that the coldest winter Mark Twain every spent was a summer in San Francisco.
Bruce Mowbray: ahhh -- the City by the Bay.
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, because of the fog
Miralee Munro: Well, I'm actually in Palo Alto
Bruce Mowbray: I lived in Berkeley for seven years.
Calvino Rabeni: but if you go south, or up, you'll see the sun
    Bruce Mowbray: at Stanford?
Calvino Rabeni: @ bruce, I lived in that are also
    Calvino Rabeni: Yes
    Miralee Munro: Yes!
Calvino Rabeni: I lived on stanford avenue
Bruce Mowbray: really, Cal? I lived there from 1964 to 1971, when I moved to Ohio.
Miralee Munro: I'm staying with a friend I met here in Second Life
Bruce Mowbray: I lived on Dwight Way -- directly across the street from Herrick Hospital.
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, Bruce, our paths have crossed in a variety of ways
Miralee Munro: I've never suffered jet lag like I have since arriving here
Miralee Munro: It's been four days and I've only just started to feel myself again.
Calvino Rabeni: Storms knocked him off line
    Miralee Munro nods
    Miralee Munro: It's essential
Miralee Munro: when you are traveling overseas
Miralee Munro: to follow the sun
Miralee Munro: you must go east to west
Calvino Rabeni: I'd be happy to be in SF right about now
Miralee Munro: west to east really messes you up.
Miralee Munro: Where do you live Calvino?
    Miralee Munro: Ohio?
Calvino Rabeni: Well, actually I kind of like west to east
Calvino Rabeni: because less calendar time is lost
Miralee Munro: Don't you find that you get dreadful jet lag?
Miralee Munro: It's unnatural I think
Miralee Munro: I left Australia at 1 pm on Wednesday
Calvino Rabeni: Hmm, not so much, I just sleep most of the flight
Miralee Munro: traveled for 12 or 16 hours and arrived at 9am on Wednesday
Miralee Munro: It just ain't natural!
    Miralee Munro: lol
Calvino Rabeni: I've never been there, but I was in Bangkok in April
Calvino Rabeni: what a long flight!
    Miralee Munro: It is!
Miralee Munro: I was in India at Christmas time
Miralee Munro: and the flight home was just soooooooooo long
Calvino Rabeni: Maybe I just got used to it
Calvino Rabeni: However it helps a bit - maybe psychologically - to have a good seat on the plane
Miralee Munro: I was extremely fortunate
Miralee Munro: i had three seats to myself
Calvino Rabeni: So I often switch them at the last minute
Miralee Munro: so I could lay out and get a decent sleep at least
    Calvino Rabeni: nice
Miralee Munro: What do you mean?
Miralee Munro: What is a 'good' seat?
Calvino Rabeni: I get on the computer, then go to seatguru.com to find out the good / not so good seats, then go to the airline web site and see if there are last minute seat vacancies, and change my seat to somewhere a little better
Calvino Rabeni: a good seat is well, depends on what you like
Miralee Munro: What do you like?

    --BELL–

Calvino Rabeni: I like being way in the back, if I'm not in a hurry
Calvino Rabeni: Because then I can get up and walk around the galley area, or restroom area, stretch, not be blocked by the service carts
Miralee Munro: Actually, I asked for a window seat so I can lean up against the window to sleep
Calvino Rabeni: and planes sometimes have special rows with more room
Miralee Munro: but they put me right up the back where there were only two seats across but there was about a foot gap between the window and the seat
Calvino Rabeni: right, that would be good for me, but not for your planned activity
Calvino Rabeni: seatguru.com tells you about those differences
Miralee Munro: I'll have to check it out
Miralee Munro: so it tells you about all the different planes and how they're set out?
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
    Miralee Munro: Oh great.
Miralee Munro: That's a really good handy hint
    Miralee Munro: thanks Calvino.
    Calvino Rabeni: YW Miralee
Calvino Rabeni: So, do you have any interesting plans for sight seeing in SF?
Miralee Munro: Having the three seats all to myself was a good benefit.
Miralee Munro: Well, tomorrow I might be catching up with a friend of a friend I haven't seen for about 15 years
Miralee Munro: I'll probably catch the train into San Francisco and meet her there
Miralee Munro: and then on Wednesday my ex-partner from here in Second Life will be arriving here
Miralee Munro: and we are going to do a road trip back up to Canada where he lives
Miralee Munro: and I might be meeting up with two other members of our community in SL as well.
Calvino Rabeni: That sounds wonderful, it is a good time of year for a road trip
Miralee Munro: I want to check out Monterey and Marin County as well
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, a hike on Mt Tamalpais should be refreshing
Calvino Rabeni: On road trips I like the scenic route
Miralee Munro: I'm still a bit tired, even now
Calvino Rabeni: back roads, the slow way
Miralee Munro: but hopefully by tomorrow I'll be back to my old self.
Miralee Munro: Well, I think we'll be going the coastal route
Calvino Rabeni: that's a good one
    Miralee Munro: Well Calvino
Miralee Munro: I've just arrived home from having a massage
Miralee Munro: think I'll have a bit of a sleep
Calvino Rabeni: Sure, wave if you pass through Seattle :)
Miralee Munro: We do, don't we?
Calvino Rabeni: Good rest, refresh :)
    Miralee Munro: Oh ....
Miralee Munro: A friend has just logged on
Miralee Munro: I'll go and say hello
Miralee Munro: and then log off
Miralee Munro: Nice chatting to you Calvino
    Calvino Rabeni: OK Bye :)
Miralee Munro: and thanks for the seatguru tip.
    Miralee Munro: XXXXX
    Calvino Rabeni: <333
    Miralee Munro: Arriverdici
    Calvino Rabeni: Bon Voyage
