The Guardian for this meeting was Riddle Sideways. The comments are by Riddle Sideways.
Started slow, people trickled in all through the hour.
Sit back and enjoy our play.
Riddle Sideways: good morning Bruce
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: Good morning, Riddle. Still rezzing over here.
Riddle Sideways: oh dear, maybe this is the best I will rez today :)
Bruce Mowbray: Well, everything now looks fine on my monitor -- It's in RL that I've not quite rezzed yet.
Riddle Sideways: yeah, thatz what I was thinking
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Bruce Mowbray: You're looking fine this morning -- love the bright red scarf!
Riddle Sideways: thnx
Riddle Sideways: the cof-o-cuppee is empty and the awake has not come
Bruce Mowbray: I'm on #2 cup myself.
Riddle Sideways: hmmm, now to decide whether this is ok to be a 2 cup day
Riddle Sideways: oh... hi to Blub too.
Riddle Sideways: Blub and the blue fish
There are left over circling fish by the pool, but not in it.
Riddle Sideways: seem to be ok
Bruce Mowbray: Blub says, 'Good morning, Riddle.'
Bruce Mowbray: The blue fish seem to have become a permanent feature here. I think it was Mickorod who left them here several days ago.
Riddle Sideways: so you sure have been coming very regular and often
Riddle Sideways: how many times a week
Bruce Mowbray: Yep -- I try to make it at least twice a day.
Riddle Sideways: sry, lag here
Bruce Mowbray: so -- at least twelve per week - usually more.
Bruce Mowbray: Yesterday afternoon (1 p.m. slt) I logged on from a public library in Dayton, Ohio - where I had traveled to visit a 95-year-old friend.
Riddle Sideways: that is dedication
Bruce Mowbray: And I crashed THREE times just during the PaB session, so I didn't try to get back on-line after that. Something about their wi-fi connections, I guess.
Riddle Sideways: and some libraries won't let you install software like SL browser
Riddle Sideways: oh, just using their net
Bruce Mowbray: That didn't seem to be a problem --- There were literally dozens of others using the wi-fi -- Don't know enough about the technology to know whether that might have been the problem.
Riddle Sideways: Hi, Archi
Bruce Mowbray: Good morning, Arch.
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Riddle....Hola, Bruce :))
Riddle Sideways: seems I need a little friend like ya'll
Riddle Sideways: maybe a little person on my shoulder
Archmage Atlantis: Sees you Are a little friend *g*
Archmage Atlantis: That would work :)
Riddle Sideways: devil on one side, angel on the other
Archmage Atlantis: :)
Riddle Sideways: confusion of which to listen to
Riddle Sideways: use to love those cartoons
Two very good points.
Bruce Mowbray: Why does it need to be either/or? I listen to both/and [several others.]
Archmage Atlantis: My confusion is more like, which is which.......both have attractive qualities and promise good things :)
Riddle Sideways: true
Riddle Sideways: spirit guides never really took on physical shape for me
Archmage Atlantis: So has the discussion topic been somewhat established, then?
Bertram Jacobus: hey arch bruce and riddle ! :-)
Riddle Sideways: hi Bertram
Archmage Atlantis: We are all different, and we all change as we age and/or grow
Bruce Mowbray is not aware of a topic. . . (yet) -- although open for anything.
Riddle Sideways: no topic yet
Bruce Mowbray: Good day, Bert!
Archmage Atlantis: Hi Bert
Riddle Sideways: unless cartoon spirit guides becomes the topic?
Bertram Jacobus: hey yaku ! :-)
Bruce Mowbray: welcome, Yaku.
Bertram Jacobus: hello fox ! ... :-)
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey everyone
Fox Monacular: hello everyone
--BELL--
Archmage Atlantis: What is a cartoon, really, just a representation of the cartoonists inner thoughts.......perhaps
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Fox.
Yakuzza Lethecus: riddle ur cute :)
Forgot to mention I am a little elephant AV today.
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Yaku.....Hello, Fox
Riddle Sideways: hi Yak
Archmage Atlantis: He needs a small person to ride on his shoulder, Yaku
Riddle Sideways: I am crashin, I think
My internet and SL browser began acting funny.
Archmage Atlantis: That, was sort of the discussion......that or an angel or devil pair
Bruce Mowbray: What does it mean when you ask, "Which one should I listen to?" Who is this "I" and what is that "I" hearing, and from whom?
Archmage Atlantis: Is Blub's school out today, Bruce?
Riddle Sideways: :)
Riddle Sideways: hi fox
Bruce Mowbray: Not actually "out" -- more like invisible.
Bertram Jacobus: hi eos ! ... :-)
Bruce Mowbray: He has so many sub-selves that they are impossible to count.
Bruce Mowbray: welcom, Eos.
Fox Monacular: hi Riddle, hi Eos!
Yakuzza Lethecus: hey eos
Archmage Atlantis: I see, the question revealed their presence
Riddle Sideways: hi Eos
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Eox
Archmage Atlantis: *Eox
Archmage Atlantis: Arggh
Archmage Atlantis: *Eos
Bertram Jacobus: sry bruce ? "i" as a conglomerat of conditions, no ? and the other things too, no ?
Bruce Mowbray: You mean those four fish where Eos sits? Nope those are a whole different school from Blub's.
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Bert, Bruce, Arch, Riddle (Riddle?), Yak, Fox
Riddle Sideways looks up Eox
Eos Amaterasu hears an elephant trumpetting (Riddle looks like a toy elephant)
Bertram Jacobus: ganesha ? :-)
Riddle Sideways: no not the ganesha
Fox Monacular: I thought Riddle looked quite snuggly:)
Eos Amaterasu is adopting Mick's fish....
Bertram Jacobus: why not ? :-)
Bruce Mowbray: Well, (@ Arch). . . This guy I call "I" seems to want to make the choices about which sub-selves to "listen" to -- and where did he get the right/power/authority to do that?
Archmage Atlantis: Interesting question, Bruce......
Riddle Sideways: ah, the levels of imagined selves
Riddle Sideways: ok, big school o fish
Bertram Jacobus: hello aph rodite ... !
Fox Monacular: Hello Aphrodite, nice to meet you
Bruce Mowbray: Good morning Aph!
Riddle Sideways: hi again, Apro
Yakuzza Lethecus: morning aph
Archmage Atlantis: I think the main self is the one that is the safest to allow others to see......or perhaps, the safest in some other way
Aphrodite Macbain: Good morning afternoon, evening)
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Aphrodite
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Arch
Riddle Sideways: several of my I's are unsure of that, Arch
[I just tried to save this commentary/posting so it does not get lost. It reported my session was timed out]
Maybe it is the animations or your video board resolution, some times AVs do not rez right.
Aphrodite Macbain: Riddle, one of yourselves is very white today
Archmage Atlantis: That makes sense
Aphrodite Macbain: bridelike
Aphrodite Macbain: or perhaps that's fox
Riddle Sideways: white? me? Fox looks white to me
Aphrodite Macbain: true
Aphrodite Macbain: nice bow though
Riddle Sideways: little elephants can make nice brides
Eos Amaterasu: nothing wrong with her, looks all white....
Aphrodite Macbain: haha
Aphrodite Macbain: hi koya
Aphrodite Macbain: Bruce- have you been eating uranium again?
Bruce Mowbray: so. . . (again @ Arch) this "I" is the 'one' that feels safest? to be seen by outer "I's" (who presumably also feel safe to be seen....)
Bruce Mowbray: ?
Archmage Atlantis: Which page of "Down the Rabbit Hole" are we on.......I lost my place........
Aphrodite Macbain: You're just aching to be seen Bruce
Riddle Sideways: 42
Riddle Sideways: sometimes the I is different for different situations
Archmage Atlantis: ty for koya, Aphrodite.....tho we seem to have a number of alternate attendees today
Bruce Mowbray: There is one of the selves that does "ache to be seen." His name is "Limelight." But I was not aware he'd gotten out of bed yet today.
Fox Monacular: (sorry was away... back now;)
Bruce Mowbray: OK, Riddle -- different I's for different occasions and purporses? [YES!!!]
Eos Amaterasu: Any suggested leaps or suspensions into the next 90 secs: maybe, which self is in the 90?
Bruce Mowbray: purposes.
Bertram Jacobus: welcome fox :-)
Riddle Sideways: different porpoises
Archmage Atlantis: I always did like the answer 42..........when I first read the book, it brought a huge smile to my face
Aphrodite Macbain: porpoises -they leap
Riddle Sideways: alt I's
Bruce Mowbray: [or, perhaps, dropping ALL the selves for the 90?]
Bertram Jacobus: yeah : which self is in the 90 secs.
Aphrodite Macbain: Please tell me what book you are talking about
Riddle Sideways: hitch hikers guide
Bruce Mowbray: ? Hitchhiker's Guide?
Aphrodite Macbain: Ah. Never read it. perhaps I should
Of course I think everybody should read it. Then join the book club here
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: "So long and thanks for all the fish." (is actually the forth book's title)
Archmage Atlantis: Douglas Adams "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"
Archmage Atlantis: :)
Aphrodite Macbain: did that quote come from that book?
Not that quote, just almost of the references in the last page since 42.
(BTW - what page are we on - is a firesign theater ref.).
Aphrodite Macbain: that is so wierd - its the password for the WiFi used in the house I'm staying in!
Once you start looking/aware you'll see Adams refs everywhere.
There is another VW where if you teleport to any of the four 42,42 there is a transporter to my property.
Archmage Atlantis: The last one in the series, Aphrodite.........
Riddle Sideways: Aphro, 42 is the answer to "Life, the universe and Everything"
Aphrodite Macbain: wondered where that had come from. thanks another mystery solved
Riddle Sideways: introduced in the first book
Bertram Jacobus: to me, ty eos - there was the meditating self in the 90 secs. ...
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Bleu
Bleu Oleander: hi everyone :)
Aphrodite Macbain: How many books are there?
Riddle Sideways: Hi Blu
Aphrodite Macbain: Hi Bleu
Bertram Jacobus: hi bleu
Archmage Atlantis: Hi, Bleu........
Riddle Sideways: 5 books "in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhikers Trilogy" [sub-title of last]
ANNOUNCEMENT - Wikipedia just alerted me that Douglas' widow has colaborated with Artimus Fowl to author a 6th book "And Another Thing..."
Excuse me while I go to the book store...
Aphrodite Macbain: should I start at the beginning?
Riddle Sideways: some like to start there - wizard of oz
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Archmage Atlantis: It's difficult to pop in to PaB and know if one is in a 90 sec period
Riddle Sideways: some say the beginning is a good place to start
Bruce Mowbray: hello, Bleu.
Aphrodite Macbain: some say things go in cycles and it doesn't matter
Fox Monacular: Hi Bleu
Bruce Mowbray: Or, if you don't want to start at one beginning, you could start at some other beginning.
Well, in the case of HHGTTU the first chapter kind of flavors the rest of the books.
Years later, Douglas would tell young would-be authors not to destroy the Earth in the first chapter, "You might need it again, in some later chapter".
Before I drop this, one more point. There is an incredible scene of a sperm whale and a potted petunia. Which materialize miles and miles above a medium sized planet and start falling. The whale's dialog is one that I will some day quote into a chat session. It is one of the greatest coming into instant existance, sencience, Being. Comic and meaningful. A must read.
The main point here is... All the potted petunia said was "oh, not again!"
"If we were to know what that remark meant. We would know a great deal about what the ..."
That off remark repeats and is explained (somewhat) over 3 more volumes.
Your karma is so lesser.
Archmage Atlantis: Julie Andrews certainly sings that to start at the very beginning is a very good pkace to start.......
Aphrodite Macbain: I like that
Bruce Mowbray: which one?
Aphrodite Macbain: when in the sound of music?
Riddle Sideways: one of the few hundred good points of the books is that the answer (42) is not as good to know as what the question is
Aphrodite Macbain: I'm beginning to want to go to the library
Archmage Atlantis: Sillliness aside, Yes.........the first book does set up the rest of the series
Aphrodite Macbain: Bleu that is one hot outfit you're wearing
Aphrodite Macbain: OK thanks Arch- I'll see if I can find it
Bertram Jacobus: sry - i´ll leave already - have a nice time and ty for the talks ! ...
Bleu Oleander: oh ty!
Riddle Sideways: Bye Bert
Bruce Mowbray: bye, Bert.
Archmage Atlantis: Bye, Bert
Aphrodite Macbain: byee bert
Bleu Oleander: bye Bert
Riddle Sideways: why is it that cartoon characters and fictional and comic characters are so pointent
Riddle Sideways: sp?
Bruce Mowbray: In terms of archetypal psychology (James Hillman, Thomas Moore, etc) -- the cartoon characters might represent archetypes. . .
Riddle Sideways: they have the freedom to morph into
Eos Amaterasu: poignant?
Riddle Sideways: ty
Aphrodite Macbain: including Donald Duck?
Bruce Mowbray: If so, then they also represent parts of ourselves - and all of humanity.
Riddle Sideways: the little angel on your shoulder
Bruce Mowbray: so -- they are commonly identified with -- we recognize parts of ourselves in the cartoon characters.
Aphrodite Macbain: including manga?
Archmage Atlantis: potent? poagnetnt?
Aphrodite Macbain: poignant
Archmage Atlantis: Ya, das it
Aphrodite Macbain: very sharp
Aphrodite Macbain: including batman?
Riddle Sideways: what part of manga do you recognize?
Bruce Mowbray: Maybe especially manga. . . Including ALL ofthem.
Riddle Sideways: big eyes ( I's )
Bruce Mowbray: of them.
Aphrodite Macbain: but they are never subtle. they are exaggerations and simplified
Bleu Oleander: great book: "understanding Comics" by Scott McCloud
Aphrodite Macbain: a philosopher?
Riddle Sideways: thanks, I think I have it, but not read yet
Aphrodite Macbain: psychologist?
Riddle Sideways: so many books...
Aphrodite Macbain: so little time
Bleu Oleander: http://scottmccloud.com/
Aphrodite Macbain: tHANKS bLEU
Archmage Atlantis: That's what's useful about Wikipedia, sort of an abridged Cliff's Notes *g*
Aphrodite Macbain: )g)?
Bleu Oleander: AM Radio, a big SL artist referred that book to me
Archmage Atlantis: Not certain if that was a question or a comment Aph
Bleu Oleander: and I was amazed
--BELL--
Aphrodite Macbain: a question. dont know what *g* means
Archmage Atlantis: OO *g* = grins
Aphrodite Macbain: ah thanks. still learning the lingo after all these months
Archmage Atlantis: I'm still learning the lingo after all these decades, ........ language continues to evolve :)
Bleu Oleander: http://secondlife.com/destinations/editor .... great exhibition by Thoth
Bleu Oleander: if you haven't seen it
Aphrodite Macbain: who is Thoth
Bleu Oleander: also a big SL artist
Aphrodite Macbain: oh
Bleu Oleander: it's up for a month
Aphrodite Macbain: thanks for the reference
Riddle Sideways: thx,
Eos Amaterasu: cartoon selves still carrying the magical shiftiness of "I"s....
Bruce Mowbray is wondering what he'd be if after 'dropping' everything for 90 seconds, everything didn't pop right back up afterward.
Aphrodite Macbain: what is the subject matter Bleu
Bleu Oleander: of the exhibition?
Bruce Mowbray: "Dropping" = putting down the comic book....?
Eos Amaterasu: mabye it only pretends to pop Back up....
Aphrodite Macbain: in limbo Bruce -waiting
Riddle Sideways: you did, bruce
Aphrodite Macbain: yes Bleu
Bleu Oleander: Simplexity ..... how complexity happens from simple
Bruce Mowbray: be careful with "Limbo," Aph -- It has a powerful meaning to those of us who've seen INCEPTION.
Eos Amaterasu rummages for his totem
Aphrodite Macbain: ohhh Is it a bad place?
Archmage Atlantis: Twas brillig, and the slithy toves. Did gyre and gimble in the wabe --
Riddle Sideways: no, I like it
Riddle Sideways: restful
Archmage Atlantis: *mind drifts*
Eos Amaterasu: all mimsy were the borogroves
Aphrodite Macbain: sounds fascinating Bleu I'll take a look
Bruce Mowbray checks to see if his totem is still spinning.
Eos Amaterasu: the PaB circle here is kind of an inception
Eos Amaterasu: where everyone comes up with their own 90 secs
Riddle Sideways: at some point, you 'll have to not care if the fish are still spinning
Bruce Mowbray: indeed, Eos.
Eos Amaterasu: the fish never leave the water
Aphrodite Macbain: spin with them instead?
Archmage Atlantis: Indeed Riddle, indeed
Bruce Mowbray: keep your options open, though.
Eos Amaterasu: first there are fish, then there are no fish, then there are....
Aphrodite Macbain: but go for the ride
Aphrodite Macbain: tho spinning makes me dizzy
Archmage Atlantis: The Porpoises did after all
Bleu Oleander: oh no
Aphrodite Macbain: did what?
Riddle Sideways: right Eos
Bleu Oleander: something's fishy
Archmage Atlantis: Go for the ride, Aph, after all the fish :)
Bruce Mowbray: If YOU are dizzy, how do you think the fish must feel?
Aphrodite Macbain: used to it
Eos Amaterasu: every 90 secs, the fish are full of the 90 secs
Riddle Sideways: sry, aphro was another ref to the guide
Bruce Mowbray: fish experience "fish-enoughness" during the 90 secs.
Aphrodite Macbain: Your body is flasshing again bruce and you have no bottom half
Aphrodite Macbain: are you becoming a fish?
Bruce Mowbray thinks: "Maybe that's a good thing, Aph."
Aphrodite Macbain: :-)
Aphrodite Macbain: That's better!
Riddle Sideways: usually others can't see you morph
Archmage Atlantis: Must be lag, or maybe the angle of persception......Bruce looked fine to me
Aphrodite Macbain: I thought you might reurn with a fin
Bruce Mowbray: Bruce also looked fine to me. But it's probably good to hear what others are perceiving - to fill out the picture.
Aphrodite Macbain: return
Bruce Mowbray: Return with a Finn - or a Yugoslav.
Eos Amaterasu: a Fael whale
Archmage Atlantis: I like reurn , very greco-roman pottery
Riddle Sideways: gone to pot
Bruce Mowbray: Re-earn one's urns?
Aphrodite Macbain: Thanks Blue-me among the fishes!
Riddle Sideways: ahhhh
Archmage Atlantis: Hmmm....to pot, ...... I remember someone still having an outhouse......that would imply a pot inside
Aphrodite Macbain: pot...hmmm something to hide in a teapot
Bruce Mowbray recalls that for the first 7 years he lived in present residence, had only an out-house.
Bruce Mowbray: C-O-L-D winter dashes....
Aphrodite Macbain: always good to return one's urns - you might get a nickle
Riddle Sideways: yes, did a few years like that
Bruce Mowbray: no-deposit no-return urns: no good.
Aphrodite Macbain: me too-in Newfoundland
Aphrodite Macbain: had a great view though
--BELL--
Archmage Atlantis: Ah well, I'm late, I'm late, for very important date............luv youse guys.......Blessings and Namaste
Bruce Mowbray: bye, Arch. and thanks for all the fish.
Aphrodite Macbain: bye and take care Arch
Bleu Oleander: have a great day everyone .... bfn :)
Bruce Mowbray: bye, Bleu
Eos Amaterasu: Ciao all!
Fox Monacular: Bye all!
Riddle Sideways: bye all
Bruce Mowbray: bye, Eos.
Riddle Sideways: I too must ado
Bruce Mowbray: bye, Riddle.
Aphrodite Macbain: by riddle keep your trunk clean
Riddle Sideways: thx
Aphrodite Macbain: anything happening in SL today?
Aphrodite Macbain: that's worth visiting?
Aphrodite Macbain: Yaku- how's the Spanish?
Yakuzza Lethecus: it´s ok
Aphrodite Macbain: abla espanol?
Yakuzza Lethecus: yesterday there wasn´t a class
Yakuzza Lethecus: i still can´t think in it
Aphrodite Macbain: that's when you know you know it
Aphrodite Macbain: my test is whether I can eavesdrop on conversations and understand what is being said
Yakuzza Lethecus: when i am fluent in 4 languages in 20 years then it´s fine with me
Yakuzza Lethecus: i mean ur italian is great
Yakuzza Lethecus: or then i met a couple of educators whom are speaking french, italian, spanish and of course english
Aphrodite Macbain: No it isn't. I can't understand most Italians when they speak fast
Aphrodite Macbain: it' s hard to keep them separated when they're so similar
Yakuzza Lethecus: there will be a french class at virlantis on thursdays at 4am slt
Yakuzza Lethecus: which is too early for me :P
Aphrodite Macbain: are you going?
Aphrodite Macbain: oh too bad. Your French must be pretty go though, no?
Yakuzza Lethecus: hehe, i hated foreign langagues
Yakuzza Lethecus: i can show you my bad marks from the past :)
Aphrodite Macbain: that's tough - especially in Europe!
Yakuzza Lethecus: so since i got into english and other subjects more playfully i try to surround myself with subjects that i never liked either
Aphrodite Macbain: hmmm like what?
Yakuzza Lethecus: still, i have no clue where ppl try to learn math for fun :P
Aphrodite Macbain: haha me neither!
Yakuzza Lethecus: i mean calculus and everthing concerning math was scary to me in the end
Yakuzza Lethecus: i didn´t study computer science and electrical engineering because of that
Aphrodite Macbain: I can understandtheir enjoyment of it - math can be very elegant. But I'm not smart enough to get there
Aphrodite Macbain: Bruce - how's your math?
Bruce Mowbray: Not good.
Aphrodite Macbain: we're all right brainers
Bruce Mowbray: apparently so, yes.
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, folks -- I need to get ready for a dental app't.
Bruce Mowbray: All have a good day - be well and ahhpy, OK?
Bruce Mowbray: happy.
Aphrodite Macbain: Have you noticed my angel fish keep swimming underground and then reappering?
Yakuzza Lethecus: i hope you stay happy there bruce
Yakuzza Lethecus: take care
Aphrodite Macbain: Enjoy the dentist Bruce!! Take care
Aphrodite Macbain: Well it's just you and me Yaku.
Yakuzza Lethecus: a little afk elephant is still here :)
