The guardian for this session was Paradise Tennant. The coments are by Paradise, Bruce, Eliza, Calvino, and Druth.
Paradise Tennant: hiya bruce
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Para.
Paradise Tennant: waiting for the cushions to rezz
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Paradise Tennant: sorry I am late ..
Bruce Mowbray: No problem. You're looking gorgeous tonight!
Paradise Tennant: lol thanks kindly :)
Paradise Tennant: more fanciful fashion :)
Bruce Mowbray: How come we guys don't get to dress like that?
Bruce Mowbray: I guess we could if we wanted to, huh?
Paradise Tennant: well I think they have merman outfits you know
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bruce Mowbray: really. . . ? I'll think it over.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh my!
Paradise Tennant: funny nothing is rezzing
Paradise Tennant: except of course the one cushion you seem to be sitting on even though I cannot see you :)
Paradise Tennant: well
Paradise Tennant: maybe I will have to stand
Bruce Mowbray: I'm usually the one who can't see anything. . .
Paradise Tennant: what would you like to talk about tonight
Bruce Mowbray: All of the usual cushions are here, I promise.
--BELL--
Paradise Tennant: hmm I believe you but when they are not rezzed i cannot click on them
Bruce Mowbray: Well, I've been feeling somewhat anxious about the stock market. . . hating to see my life's savings disappear...
Paradise Tennant: ouch
Bruce Mowbray: and am trying to use this as an exercise in "stuckness" and impermanence. . ,.
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, druth!
Paradise Tennant: and attachment
Paradise Tennant: hiya druth
Bruce Mowbray: Can you see the cushions, druth?
druth Vlodovic: hi mowbray, tennant
Bruce Mowbray: yes, and attachment.
druth Vlodovic: just click around until something happens :)
Bruce Mowbray: ha ha!
Paradise Tennant: ok
druth Vlodovic: good, that's not the best dress for floating in
Paradise Tennant: that works
Paradise Tennant: lol
Bruce Mowbray: anyway, I've decided just to watch the appearance of anxiety -- and try to stop peaking at the financial news.
Paradise Tennant: we were just chatting about possible topics was there anything you would like to talk about tonight
Paradise Tennant: nods
Paradise Tennant: best idea it not to focus on it
Bruce Mowbray: How about you, druth?
Bruce Mowbray thinks: Stop peaking and peeking, both.
druth Vlodovic: lol, remember the "serenity prayer"
Bruce Mowbray: Sure do.
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bruce Mowbray: It's the "courage" part that I'm lacking right now.
Bruce Mowbray: also wisdom, probably.
Bruce Mowbray: come to think of it, also the serenity part.
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Paradise Tennant: God, grant us the... Serenity to accept things we cannot change, Courage to change the things we can, and the Wisdom to know the difference Patience for the things that take time Appreciation for all that we have, and Tolerance for those with different struggles Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past ways, the Ability to feel your love for us and our love for each other and the Strength to get up and try again even when we feel it is hopeless. Contents [hide]
Bruce Mowbray: I've just copied that to print out later. Thanks!
druth Vlodovic: wow, the long version, I'd only ever heard the first three lines
Bruce Mowbray: me too -- only three lines.
Bruce Mowbray: I have hanging in my living room an embroidry piece that my mother made of that prayer several decades ago.
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Paradise Tennant: love having things people have made with their hands always seems to me when you touch it .you sort of touch them
druth Vlodovic: my grandmother had a hanging "the hurrider I go, the behinder I get" it wasn't until I was grown up I found out it was a postcard
Paradise Tennant: smiles
druth Vlodovic: still wish I had it though
Paradise Tennant: postcards work too :)
Paradise Tennant: anxiety can be really helpful sometimes
Paradise Tennant: find it compells me to get certain things done
Paradise Tennant: there is growth in discomfort
Paradise Tennant: often find I have to step out of my comfort zone to grow ..
Bruce Mowbray: Well, there's definitely a growth edge in this somewhere for me, then.
--BELL--
Bruce Mowbray: Hey, you made it, Para!
druth Vlodovic: I've tried investing a few times, them my parents put money into "ethical funds" for the kids, and they've consistantly outperformed anything I did
Paradise Tennant: yep the cushions finally appeared ..
Paradise Tennant: nice thing for your parents to do .. time is a big plus when it comes to returns :)
druth Vlodovic: I wasn't sure of the idea at first, the idea of ethical funds is they invest in "ethical" companies
druth Vlodovic: to be honest I'm not sure what their criteria is
Paradise Tennant: hmm each would be a little different i suspect but green, fair trade .. and the like would be big in th picture no ?
Bruce Mowbray: http://www.rawdc.org/invest/funds.html
Bruce Mowbray: several different kinds of "ethical criteria."
Paradise Tennant: hiya eliza :)
druth Vlodovic: I'd imagine so, bridgehead and suchlike as well
Bruce Mowbray: Hi, Eliza.
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Everyone :)
druth Vlodovic: hey eliza
Eliza Madrigal: :)
druth Vlodovic: strange that the idea of doing something for the "right reasons" is so odd these days
Paradise Tennant: nods
Paradise Tennant: was talking to someone about an office building today which has been modified to have prayer rooms for middle eastern employees
Paradise Tennant: made me smile
Paradise Tennant: most work places could well do with prayer rooms or at least a quiet spot to go to meditate
Bruce Mowbray: I know that some universities (like UCLA) have meditation halls for their students.
Bruce Mowbray: The neuro-biologists there requested that it be done.
Bruce Mowbray: When I first came into SL about five months ago, I was really surprised how many opportunities there are for meditation with groups.
druth Vlodovic: I learned a bit ago that anxiety and depression, from any source, can cause chemical imbalances in the brain that then cause anxiety and depression
Eliza Madrigal: hehehe
Eliza Madrigal: I was surprised by meditation communities in SL as well, Brucea
druth Vlodovic: I've even found tai chi and suchlike
Eliza Madrigal: Also, I wondered "how can that work?" til I tried it
Paradise Tennant: yes they really work well
Bruce Mowbray: Oooops. Looks like they're going to be cleaning up here in a few minutes.
Eliza Madrigal: Pila says the pose balls are pretty accurate re tai chi
Paradise Tennant: cannot really feel a difference to it
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, tai chi is a wonderful balance-restorer.
Eliza Madrigal: I've not really mirrored the movements, but an av doing tai chi IS calming
Paradise Tennant: shall we reconvene here in a few minutes or would you like to tp out to my treehouse?
Bruce Mowbray: I used to teach tai chi, and I agree with Pila.
druth Vlodovic: I imagined myself standing in front of the computer screen... :)
Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
druth Vlodovic: I've never been to your treehouse
Bruce Mowbray: Actually its getting late here and I should be getting to bed.
Eliza Madrigal: I'll sign off I think.... signed on to send a new guardian invitation
Bruce Mowbray: But thanks for th invitation.
Eliza Madrigal: but I love Paradise's treehouse
Paradise Tennant: nods
Eliza Madrigal: beautiful!
druth Vlodovic: 2nd notice
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, I've been there for an I Ching group.
Eliza Madrigal: would like to go again some time :)
Paradise Tennant: ok good night eliza bruce when it does shut down thank you for being here
Eliza Madrigal: Night for now
Bruce Mowbray: Bye for now.
Eliza Madrigal: cya bright and early for time Bruce
Paradise Tennant: will drop a landmark on you it is open space you are all welcome to use it :) just sort of an open garden with a dog
Paradise Tennant: smiles
druth Vlodovic: as lonjg as the dog if friendly
Eliza Madrigal: :) hehe... Paradise is sweet to her pets
Paradise Tennant: smiles very friendly
Eliza Madrigal: so he's friendly
Eliza Madrigal: :)
Eliza Madrigal: Night
druth Vlodovic: 'night eliza
The Region shut down
Calvino Rabeni: are there no seats here?
Calvino Rabeni: Maybe you can sit on an invisible one
Calvino Rabeni: There are several large chairs here, right
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Paradise Tennant: well
Paradise Tennant: there we go seated at last
Paradise Tennant: well how has your week been
--BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: So far so good
Calvino Rabeni: A dinner guest was talking about a company in asia that builds complete plans for cities of 1,000,000 people
Paradise Tennant: lol
Calvino Rabeni: Apparently they have a demo model
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Calvino Rabeni: It would be interesting to visit
Paradise Tennant: what is on your list of places to see before you die :)
Calvino Rabeni: And they may have some customers - maybe china needs 300 such cities built
Paradise Tennant: well economical approach ..
Calvino Rabeni: Places to see .... hmmm, I was reading somewhere about the "bucket list" phenomenon, how it varies depending on age
Paradise Tennant: but would lack.. the happenstance of towns that grow out of lives lived there
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, it might haves some engineered chaos, one would hope
Calvino Rabeni: or some built in self-organization ability
Calvino Rabeni: it might be something that works for some cultures and not for others
Calvino Rabeni: what an experiment :)
Paradise Tennant: yes
Calvino Rabeni: What would I like to see before I die ? Hmmmm
Calvino Rabeni: Anything come to mind or you?

Paradise Tennant: would love to go to the heart of the world
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Calvino Rabeni: Where is the heart of the world?
Paradise Tennant: tibet .. it is described in a beautiful book by ian baker called the heart of the world
Calvino Rabeni: I'd like to spend more time in Spain
Paradise Tennant: has never been to spain
Calvino Rabeni: A few cities there
Calvino Rabeni: A tour of coffeehouses in Vienna
Paradise Tennant: nods approvingly
--BELL--
Paradise Tennant: sometimes I will just take off on very short notice and go on what I call a starbucks holiday fly in where ever .. get up everyday find the nearest starbucks or facismile and then just kind of wander around all day .. may do some of the sites or not . sometimes just .. try to absorb the feel of everyday life there ...
Paradise Tennant: like that low keyed kind of pace :)
Calvino Rabeni: Where is somewhere you've gone?
Paradise Tennant: on the trips where everything is very organized to maximize seeing the country I sometimes find it is just is a mash of old churchs and I cannot feel the place
Paradise Tennant: hmm
Calvino Rabeni: I'm thinking also - road trips by car, taking back roads
Paradise Tennant: the sante fe trail !
Paradise Tennant: when I was sick as a kid my dad would buy maps and we would plan road trips .. cut out pictures of where we were going to go .. paste them in a book
Calvino Rabeni: American Southwest has a lot of space and a lot of sites of interest
Calvino Rabeni: Desert camping is a nice change too

Calvino Rabeni: You're a committed traveler - that's great
Calvino Rabeni: :) worlds longest link ever :)
Paradise Tennant: if you go to the far right in the photo there is sort of the start of castle .. bridge forticiation over looks a steep drop some 700 eet
Calvino Rabeni: Beautiful picture, thanks
Paradise Tennant: was up there in the dark pitch black waiting for the dawn
Calvino Rabeni: I've been pretty satisified with the pictures I have taken on travels and around the places I live
Calvino Rabeni: they aren't picture postcard material, but give a sense of place in its particular beauty
Paradise Tennant: got a nice shot . when I was walking down to town caught a photo of an older woman raking leaves in the early light, she was framed in a nice stone archway .. when I downloaded the shot there was a ghostly apparition behind her
Paradise Tennant: very spooky
Paradise Tennant: sent it to a ghost buster site :)
Paradise Tennant: yes
Calvino Rabeni: oooh
Paradise Tennant: photos are like little moments in time that you can zoom back to with a look
Calvino Rabeni: I like that effect
Paradise Tennant: yes
Paradise Tennant: nods
Calvino Rabeni: And with an eye for detail, the world has infinities other than size
Paradise Tennant: yes
Calvino Rabeni: So sometimes I focus on things other than landscape and built objects
Calvino Rabeni: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
Calvino Rabeni: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
Paradise Tennant: smiles

Calvino Rabeni: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
Calvino Rabeni: like a rainbow bridge
--BELL--
Paradise Tennant: huge smile here ..how beautiful
Calvino Rabeni: Nature shots are difficult - what the camera sees is so different than the eye - and I don't know later if the shot will be successful, and then, if it works for other people as well as myself
Paradise Tennant: yes
Calvino Rabeni: Capturing the quality of early summer is a challenge
Paradise Tennant: it sometimes is just a fluke that you manage to capture .. even a bit of it
Calvino Rabeni: Yes, and you look again, and think - well that's just grass and a few trees
Paradise Tennant: we should do a photo show and tell session :)
Paradise Tennant: that would be fun
Calvino Rabeni: or again, maybe the photo can draw you in
Calvino Rabeni: Yes it would
Paradise Tennant: they do draw you in
Paradise Tennant: smiles
Calvino Rabeni: It would be an interesting session, like a narrated slide show, but I think we could give it extra dimensions
Paradise Tennant: would be a lot of fun
Paradise Tennant: pick a special photo that was important to you ..
Paradise Tennant: going to have to go soon dog is starting to talk loudly :)
Calvino Rabeni: LIke this one - lt goes back and forth between beiing dimensional and flat
Calvino Rabeni: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink
Calvino Rabeni: OK, good to see you, take care :)
Paradise Tennant: beautiful play of light ..
Paradise Tennant: smiles
