    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Bruce :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi Paradise :)
Paradise Tennant: hiya sophia :) bruce :)
    Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Para.
SophiaSharon Larnia: what a gorgeous dress Paradise
SophiaSharon Larnia: I have never seen that :D
Paradise Tennant: sorry having puter problems going to take about 10 minutes for the cushions to rez
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes, I've been having that trouble here are well
Bruce Mowbray feels reassured to know that others besides himself have computer problems.
Paradise Tennant: yes the same designer .. eshi - wearing her clothes is like wrapping yourself in art .. a real treat :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: it is, to see :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I did look at the shop once
    Paradise Tennant: smiles ..
Paradise Tennant: I looked a few times then once I bought one .. sigh .. a habit was formed :)
Paradise Tennant: how have you been sophia I have not seen you in a while
Bruce Mowbray: Looks like a great habit to me!
SophiaSharon Larnia: I've been very well, better all summer
    SophiaSharon Larnia: thank you
    SophiaSharon Larnia: how are you?
Paradise Tennant: very well thank you .. we had a very hot day to day but it is starting to get cooler at night and darker earlier
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes I noticed that, at first sadness, but I really like fall
Paradise Tennant: smiles the ex is on in toronto .. always heralds the end of summer here
Bruce Mowbray: Hot here today , too.
    Paradise Tennant: yes me too
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
Bruce Mowbray: I've forgotten where you folks are living in RL, Para and Sharon.
    Paradise Tennant: toronto
SophiaSharon Larnia: I live near philadelphia
    Bruce Mowbray: Thanks!
SophiaSharon Larnia: the first time you notice its getting darker earlier, that ohhhh
Bruce Mowbray: Well, Sharon, you will be getting our hot air soon.
SophiaSharon Larnia: where did the time go :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes it was cooler and then got like mid summer again
Bruce Mowbray: Even hotter tomorrow, they are saying.
SophiaSharon Larnia: Im thinking of hurricanes
Paradise Tennant: well at least for now it is sandals and shorts and t shirt weather :)
Paradise Tennant: yes some big ones coming
Bruce Mowbray: I feel sorry for the kids in school - and their teachers, too.
SophiaSharon Larnia: yea I still remember that feeling
SophiaSharon Larnia: brand new clothes itchy and hot
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
SophiaSharon Larnia: the smell of new clothes and new notebooks=the smell of the first day of school
Paradise Tennant: smiles very sharp pencils .. without the ends chewed nice clean erasers and a cool new lunch box !
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yep
Bruce Mowbray: Oh my, you are bringing back some memories!
Paradise Tennant: scrubbed faces anxious to see where your friends ended up in classes allocations :) who the new teachers were
    SophiaSharon Larnia: strangely olfactory
SophiaSharon Larnia: i didnt get my schedule down until at least the first month
SophiaSharon Larnia: remembering where to go
    SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
Paradise Tennant: smiles and nods having backed out of many a class room
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
Bruce Mowbray suddenly sees that the teacher's viewpoint is different . . . and rejoices to be back in touch (smell?) with the other viewpoint.
Paradise Tennant: actually loved school .. love the smell of books ..
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Bruce Mowbray: [having been a teacher for so many years, I'd forgotten.]
SophiaSharon Larnia: i liked learning and somethings about it but had trouble getting up
SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs I didnt know that Bruce :))
Bruce Mowbray: I agree with Para -- I always loved school -- from both viewpoints.
Paradise Tennant: lol ahh being a kid again and all that great sleeping in
Paradise Tennant: do you remember growing pains?
SophiaSharon Larnia: i was a night owl even then, so was a balance
Paradise Tennant: one summer shot up about 4 maybe five inches .. my legs ached from all the stretching :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: ha!
Paradise Tennant: smiles yes reading under the covers with a flashlight
Bruce Mowbray wonders when Para will come into the pavilion and sit down.
Paradise Tennant: use to spend my allowance on batteries

    --BELL--

    Paradise Tennant: smiles
SophiaSharon Larnia: in a place of no time what is memory
SophiaSharon Larnia: I find myself asking these type of questions these days
SophiaSharon Larnia: with no answer, just asking
Paradise Tennant: smiles ahh the cushions have arrived :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I'm using a different viewer tonight, the other one i used, they'd all pop into existence after a long time
Paradise Tennant: wonders what a place of no time would be like
Paradise Tennant: now only about four or five showing beside the two you are sitting on
SophiaSharon Larnia: whoa what a great picture!
Bruce Mowbray: When I logged on tonight, I was forced to download and use the new viewer.
Bruce Mowbray: Did that happen to you folks, too?
    SophiaSharon Larnia: 2.0?
Paradise Tennant: lol oh no I am in emerald
SophiaSharon Larnia: no, i dont use the LL viewer
Paradise Tennant: which I like a lot more than viewer 2 but I think it may not .. be working as well as it use too seems really really really slow
Bruce Mowbray: Well. . . then it's only for us using the V2.
SophiaSharon Larnia: yes I dont think its working that well either
    SophiaSharon Larnia: why I switched
Bruce Mowbray: I'd used the newer version a few weeks ago - but didn't like it and returned to the old version.
Bruce Mowbray: But tonight I had no choice -- had to go with the new one.
Bruce Mowbray: Oh well. . .
SophiaSharon Larnia: I didnt even know the older one had worked at all
SophiaSharon Larnia: I should learn it just to help people use it
Bruce Mowbray: I really liked the first edition of V2 == but not the new edition.
Bruce Mowbray: But now we are being forced to use the newer version.
    SophiaSharon Larnia: oic
Bruce Mowbray: I'll deal with it. No Problem.
Paradise Tennant: well but the chat window is so so so tiny
Paradise Tennant: like being able to look up and see the flow of conversation
Bruce Mowbray: You should be able to enlarge that.
    Bruce Mowbray: I can.
Bruce Mowbray: I can make the chat box fill the whole screen.
Paradise Tennant: smiles then I simply have to learn how :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: whoa that would be good if you can see small print hahaha
    SophiaSharon Larnia: cant* rather
Paradise Tennant: Eos said something about a retreat in new orleans next year have you two heard of it :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: yes!
Bruce Mowbray: You can adjust the font size of the chat (in V2).
SophiaSharon Larnia: I want to go
    Paradise Tennant: me too !
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, a New Orleans retreat.
SophiaSharon Larnia: one of my favorite places
Paradise Tennant: good food good music !
SophiaSharon Larnia: maybe hard for vegetarians I'm thinking
    SophiaSharon Larnia: maybe not
    Paradise Tennant: eggplant creaole ;)))
    SophiaSharon Larnia: ha! yes
SophiaSharon Larnia: I spent some time there, but not in a retreat capacity, it will be really interesting how that would play
Paradise Tennant: smiles never been :)

    --BELL--

Bruce Mowbray: I spent the summer of 1959 in an indian village about 70 miles south of south of New Orleans (Dulac, Louisiana).
Paradise Tennant: would like to go :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: what was that like Bruce?
Bruce Mowbray: We did drive into New Orleans a couple of times.
SophiaSharon Larnia: and I hope you can Paradise!
Bruce Mowbray: It was pretty amazing -- The indians all spoke French.
Bruce Mowbray: I was only 17 years old then.
SophiaSharon Larnia: they were indian, not creole
Paradise Tennant: smiles but not their native tongue
    SophiaSharon Larnia: right
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, they were indians.... and were segregated from both the White and the Black school systems.
Bruce Mowbray: Consequently, the highest grade achieved so far in the town was 5th grade.
Bruce Mowbray: (because the church school had started only five years earlier - and they added one more grade each year.)
Bruce Mowbray: very interesting for a young kid like me -- from an Iowa farm town.
    SophiaSharon Larnia: nods
Paradise Tennant: wow when you think on the disrespect
    Paradise Tennant: it is startling
SophiaSharon Larnia: hard to imagine how that was ever ok
Bruce Mowbray: Yes, it was pretty startling for me. . . because I'd never see segregation before then.
Bruce Mowbray: When our friends were refused entry into a pool in New Orleans (because they were indians), I also refused to swim there.
    Paradise Tennant: yes
Paradise Tennant: must have made you burn
Bruce Mowbray: It was one of the first "acting out" behaviors of my entire life.
Bruce Mowbray: Ohhhh. I was REALLY mad!!!
Paradise Tennant: so crazy now :) it seems ridiculous .. but you know we are shaped by our ideas
Paradise Tennant: they are so powerful
Bruce Mowbray: But it got worse . . .
Bruce Mowbray: the following year I went as a freshman to Southern Methodist University.
Bruce Mowbray: and everything there was segregated.
Bruce Mowbray: whew. What a time.
SophiaSharon Larnia: so from none, to everything, what a shock
    Bruce Mowbray: yep.
Bruce Mowbray: Everyone (except the northerners) thought I was crazy -- because I "did not do as the Romans do."
Paradise Tennant: smiles rewarding but often difficult to listen to your heart
Bruce Mowbray: Yes. I'm surely not saying that it was all that "clear" in my mind (or heart) what the right things to do was.
Bruce Mowbray: I was often torn between ridiculous choices.
Bruce Mowbray: But I suspect that everyone has that experience at some times in her life.
SophiaSharon Larnia: in a cultural sense, I havent to that degree
Paradise Tennant: yes what makes it easy is if you believe there are options
Paradise Tennant: often when you find yourself in a difficult situation ..if you can imagine somewhere anywhere where it is completely different I find that helps
Bruce Mowbray: mmmm.... wonderful point, Para. There are ALWAYS options -- although they might be limited at the time.

    --BELL--

Paradise Tennant: often as limited as what we believe .. hard part is to discover them you have to let go .. and put on your walking shoes :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hi PIla :)
Paradise Tennant: smiles a big smiles hiya pila !
    Pila Mulligan: greetings
SophiaSharon Larnia: 'put on your walking shoes' Paradise, strong phrasing, that :)
Bruce Mowbray: Hello, Pila! Good to see you again.
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Paradise Tennant: how have you been pila long time no see
Pila Mulligan: fine thanks ... RL tfc
    SophiaSharon Larnia: (tfc? :) )
    Pila Mulligan: phone call :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: oh! :D
    Bruce Mowbray: ;-)
Paradise Tennant: smiles files away yet another slang shortform :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: so I wasnt the only one, i usually am lol
Bruce Mowbray: tfc = telephone call. That's a new one for me.
Pila Mulligan: back ... sorry to appear and disappear then
SophiaSharon Larnia: :)) How have you been Pila
Pila Mulligan: well, fine thanks -- and you?
SophiaSharon Larnia: great! my parents just came back from hawaii
Pila Mulligan: oh, cool -- what part?
SophiaSharon Larnia: and are running around, calling it HAVAI ‘I
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: laughs
    Paradise Tennant: lucky parents
    Pila Mulligan: and dancing?
    Bruce Mowbray: for sure.
SophiaSharon Larnia: well, shes making hola necklaces now
    Pila Mulligan: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: but with small beads
Paradise Tennant: smiles and immediately likes sophia's parents
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
SophiaSharon Larnia: I'm not sure where they went, they went on some Gather cruise, a christian group she likes
Pila Mulligan: oh, a cruise -- they usually go to each island for a day or so
Pila Mulligan: a nice method of travel -- no need to hassle with the airport security
SophiaSharon Larnia: was a 23 hr trip for them home
    SophiaSharon Larnia: with a layover
    Pila Mulligan: yep, that's why I dont't travel :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :0
Pila Mulligan: too far, too much time, too much sitting in too small seats
Paradise Tennant: smiles yes tiring getting places but then you are there ! :))
SophiaSharon Larnia: (that was a :))
    Pila Mulligan: true
SophiaSharon Larnia: being in closed places like that gets to me
SophiaSharon Larnia: but yes, worth the trip
Paradise Tennant: hmm yes usually just make sure I am good and tired when I get on the plane and I sleep
Pila Mulligan: oddly, though, it seemed easier for me flying east to west in terms of less clock time
Paradise Tennant: wake up .. different world
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh I wish I could do that :))
SophiaSharon Larnia: maybe eiser fo me now :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: easier* for me*
    Paradise Tennant: yes
Pila Mulligan: and then someone wrote a book saying jet lag can be ameliorated by doing exercise weh you land
    Pila Mulligan: when*
    Paradise Tennant: yes
SophiaSharon Larnia: I'm usually too beat to do anything other than be sucked into the vortex of my bed, or couch, whatever is handy
Paradise Tennant: also make a tea of astragulus and schzandra .. which puts me to sleep like a baby .. drink it cold .. in a water bottle .. helps
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: have you tried adding ginger root ?
SophiaSharon Larnia: oh wow, Ill make a note of that
Paradise Tennant: smiles nice idea will try that
Pila Mulligan: with a bit of orange peel -- nice additions
Paradise Tennant: make ginger tea a lot with fresh ginger
Pila Mulligan: it is strong stuff

    --BELL--

    SophiaSharon Larnia: brb
Bruce Mowbray will sneak off to bed during this break.
Bruce Mowbray: Thanks, everyone and good night.
    Pila Mulligan: bye Bruce
Paradise Tennant: good nite bruce .. sleep well :)
Pila Mulligan: mice to see you
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :)
    SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Bruce
SophiaSharon Larnia: I'm afraid I have to go, my sister just called
SophiaSharon Larnia: I just found out she is going to have another baby
Paradise Tennant: good nite sophia .. nice to see you :)
    Paradise Tennant: wow
    SophiaSharon Larnia: earlier today :)
Paradise Tennant: ! congratulations to her!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: you too!
    SophiaSharon Larnia: smiles
    Pila Mulligan: bye Sharon
SophiaSharon Larnia: bye Pila, Paradise ^^
    Paradise Tennant: auntie sophia
    SophiaSharon Larnia: :D
    Pila Mulligan: mazel tov :)
Paradise Tennant: has a nice ring to it !
    SophiaSharon Larnia: hehe
    Pila Mulligan: :))
Paradise Tennant: so how have you been pila
Pila Mulligan: this was an unusually busy day, shook me out of my usually lazy self
Pila Mulligan: but fine still, thanks :)
Pila Mulligan: you must be pretty well occupied with travel preparations and plans
Paradise Tennant: hmm well not much to plan really
Pila Mulligan: I tend to pre-think things through a thousand times, it seems
Paradise Tennant: booked the flights .. a friend has a place on lake garda for a month she switched her apt in manhattan for .. so just going to chill explore the small towns on foot and ferry do some hiking
    Pila Mulligan: sounds lovely
Paradise Tennant: then will hop a train to venice for four days ..
Paradise Tennant: then another train to paris and it will be over in a pouf
Pila Mulligan: travelling to a real home then, in garda
    Paradise Tennant: a blink
    Paradise Tennant: yes
Pila Mulligan: what does the total time add up to?
    Paradise Tennant: 11 nights
Paradise Tennant: 3 of then in transit
Pila Mulligan: ah, that's a decent journey
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Pila Mulligan: I love to imagine doing such a trip, but doubt that I ever will
Pila Mulligan: too much a homebody
Paradise Tennant: one sec I have a good clip for you
    Pila Mulligan: ok
Paradise Tennant: was toying with the idea of renting a little mini and driving through the alps from venice to paris
Paradise Tennant: it looks like such fun
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: really it sounds like a nice idea
Pila Mulligan: but trins are fun too -- and easier
    Pila Mulligan: trains*
    Paradise Tennant: yes
    Paradise Tennant: relazing
Paradise Tennant: boy my computer is slow
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Paradise Tennant: something is wrong with itsl little brain
    Pila Mulligan: electron fatigue
    Paradise Tennant: i guess
Pila Mulligan wonders how Pema is enjoying China
    Paradise Tennant: nods ..
Pila Mulligan: is the clip from you tube?
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
    Paradise Tennant: yes ..
Pila Mulligan: maybe i can just search for it :)
Pila Mulligan: save your electrons some effort

    --BELL--

    Paradise Tennant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aRxpD1kCYo
Paradise Tennant: when I was searching the topic .. I thought this one made it look like a lot of fun and quite doable .. a mini would feel so much safer than a motor bike :)
    Pila Mulligan: cool
Pila Mulligan: mountain driving gets complicated in bad weather
Paradise Tennant: yes smoked a clutch in sicily this year driving up a goat rrack
Paradise Tennant: not so easy somtimes on the really steep stuff
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
Pila Mulligan: I've always enjoyed it, but I also like to go slowly
Pila Mulligan: and stop and see things
Pila Mulligan: did you coast back down the goat track?
Paradise Tennant: nope all the way up .. in a small cloud of acid smoke :)
Paradise Tennant: mentioned it when I returned the car .. charged me $900 euros for a new clutch :)
    Paradise Tennant: lol
Paradise Tennant: well live and learn
    Pila Mulligan: wow
Paradise Tennant: maybe was smoking for about 30 45 seconds
    Pila Mulligan: steep price too
    Paradise Tennant: not really bad
Paradise Tennant: but certainly not desirable
Paradise Tennant: just wasn't coordinating very well with my hand brake
Pila Mulligan: I wonder if he does that with all the renters?
Paradise Tennant: on the switch backs I think you would want to be good at heel and toeing
Pila Mulligan: send out a weak clutch and let 'em think they did it bad
Paradise Tennant: nope only the honest ones :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: truck drivers do it with the gears
Pila Mulligan: not the brakes so much
Paradise Tennant: but you know some of the roads .. are so scary ..felt prety lucky
Pila Mulligan: there are roads like that here, too -- no guard rail, 200 feet down into the sea
    Pila Mulligan: one lane wide
Paradise Tennant: one part of a short cut . you hand to back up into a little bit of road to make a very tight hair pin turn where the road had be washed a way or fallen away
    Pila Mulligan: rock slides sometimes
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Pila Mulligan: coming upon a fresh washout in a storm is also exciting
Paradise Tennant: driving down below when you look up what you were backing up onto was about 20 feet long and about 8 feet of dirt with 700 feet of space below it
    Pila Mulligan: :) yep
Pila Mulligan: makes one appreciate parachutes
Paradise Tennant: yes anywhere there are mountains
    Paradise Tennant: smiles at you
    Paradise Tennant: but fun right
    Pila Mulligan: indeed
Paradise Tennant: any foggy days lately
Pila Mulligan: in some very remote areas here there are rough trails down to fish camps by the sea -- maybe a mile long over lava from the road up on the mountain
    Pila Mulligan: quite an adventure
Pila Mulligan: we've been having nice sunny days with rain at night -- not any vog for a whioe
    Paradise Tennant: i bet
    Pila Mulligan: while*
Pila Mulligan: camping at one of those places can be a real adventure
Pila Mulligan: very nice at night -- zillions of stars, not a sound but the surf on the rocks
Paradise Tennant: smiles likes the sound of that
Pila Mulligan: some places there are small rocks that make a nice chattering with the movement from the waves
    Pila Mulligan: like castanets
    Paradise Tennant: smiles
    Pila Mulligan: :)

    --BELL--

Pila Mulligan: but if I were contemplating a drive through the apls I wouldn't want to do it quickly
    Pila Mulligan: alps*
Paradise Tennant: nor on your own
    Pila Mulligan: true
Paradise Tennant: thought with gps .. and a really big cup of coffee :)
Pila Mulligan: would your freind wanmt to acocmpany you?
Pila Mulligan: :) gps is fun
Paradise Tennant: no she is flying back to new york from venice
    Pila Mulligan: aha
    Paradise Tennant: so another trip
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Paradise Tennant: will practice my steeps driving
Pila Mulligan: would your cell phone work okay there?
Paradise Tennant: yes it is a blackberry so should be ok worked fine in january
Pila Mulligan: gps and communication is a start, a fellow traveler is better tough
    Pila Mulligan: though*
Paradise Tennant: yes not a solo project
Paradise Tennant: need someone to hear you squeak when it gets really SCARU
    Paradise Tennant: SCARY
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: there are quite a few mountain roads here that have one lane sections
Pila Mulligan: drivers need to yield ... usually they do it ok
Pila Mulligan: but then sometimes ...
Paradise Tennant: how does that work
Pila Mulligan: first one there usually keeps going
    Pila Mulligan: others wait
Pila Mulligan: ome just keep going anyway
    Pila Mulligan: some*
    Paradise Tennant: size matters :)
Pila Mulligan: but not being in a hurry helps of course
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: what will Blue do while you travel?
Paradise Tennant: stays with my wonderful dog walker/whisperer :)
Pila Mulligan: ahh, with a familiar freind
Paradise Tennant: will behave much better than with me .. be a model dog .. go on 3 beach walks a day and come home and sleep for three weeks
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Paradise Tennant: totally pooped by all the doggie company and exercise
Pila Mulligan: sounds like a retreat
Paradise Tennant: yes ! a doggie commune
Pila Mulligan: om mani padme arf
    Paradise Tennant: lol
Paradise Tennant: smiles .. I think when I am away I am the one that gets heart sick
Paradise Tennant: he is having a blast :)
Pila Mulligan: maybe, but BLue is probably quite aware of you then, too
    Paradise Tennant: ues
    Paradise Tennant: yes
    Pila Mulligan: doggie vision
    Pila Mulligan: hi Steve
    stevenaia Michinaga: greetings
Paradise Tennant: lol looks around for him and realizes he has already gone to bed ..came by a few minutes ago and asked for a walk when I did not immediately dohis bidding sniffed and stalked off to the bedroom
Pila Mulligan: nice to see you
    Paradise Tennant: smiles hiya steve
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: neglected dog syndrome
stevenaia Michinaga: just finished up things and thought a walk around the pavillion would be appropriate
Paradise Tennant: lol spoiled dog syndrome :)
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Paradise Tennant: ahh
stevenaia Michinaga: yes cats are like that as well
Pila Mulligan: we've been reviewing Paradise's upcoming journey to Europe
Pila Mulligan: and her absence from Blue
stevenaia Michinaga: they talk and talk till you feed them to shut them up
stevenaia Michinaga: oh, how nice, business or pleasure
    Paradise Tennant: pleasure
    stevenaia Michinaga: or retreat
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Pila Mulligan: could be a retreat too
    stevenaia Michinaga: how lovely
Paradise Tennant: yes focused on moutain hikes gelato .. pasta really good coffee and seafood

stevenaia Michinaga: not the 30th but the one before

stevenaia Michinaga: the 16th will work
stevenaia Michinaga: 9th is a holiday
    Paradise Tennant: okies thanks kindly
stevenaia Michinaga: shall I ask sylectra for the 9th?

    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
    Pila Mulligan: or Mick's ?
Pila Mulligan: oh, the complex one
    stevenaia Michinaga: how simple eligant
    Pila Mulligan: oh Mick's :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: Micks
Pila Mulligan: yes, yarrow stalks is not simple :)
Pila Mulligan: Mick's is very elegant
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
Pila Mulligan: I like the coins as a littleritual
stevenaia Michinaga: I do enjoy 6 indiviual thows of the coins
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
    Pila Mulligan: :0

stevenaia Michinaga: warming metal in your hands seem to allow part of you to be taken by them
Pila Mulligan: yep, and a sense of involvement
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: wall does not bond as nicey
    Pila Mulligan: ?
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s an insulator, does not absorb your warmth like metal
    Pila Mulligan: ah
stevenaia Michinaga: but ti was new to me, so perhaps I will try them again
Pila Mulligan: they are definitely the easy method
    Pila Mulligan: how's tai chi?
stevenaia Michinaga: good, going twice this week to make up for missed session, then a week's break, it;s becoming more and more interesting as the forms get longer and more complex
stevenaia Michinaga: or shoudl I say... somewhat harder as the remembering comes into play moreso
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: but afterwards you can forget -- it just does itself
stevenaia Michinaga: in due time, but the subleties become more dificult to remember
Pila Mulligan wonders if Pema will see the tai chi multitudes practicing in parks while he is in Beijing
    Pila Mulligan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzZUfYxxsB8
stevenaia Michinaga: yikes, the camera is moving more than the peple doing it
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: it seems to me that the tai chi teacher can sometimes gives so many details on a single point, then when it clicks it is just one simple movement
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: but ti is truely an mind excercise
Pila Mulligan: yes ... and the slowness is part of it
stevenaia Michinaga: :), she was showing us some Kung Fu form, what a difference in speed
    Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: and the fan form, quite the deadly dance
    Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: jsut a little taste of these
Pila Mulligan: the martial arts side gets pretty intense
Pila Mulligan: I like the soft side
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, it always throws me off balance when she says, now this move will break an elbow
stevenaia Michinaga: every move for a reason
Pila Mulligan: seeing the old masters apply tai chi is educational too -- they stay soft even ni martial arts
Pila Mulligan: yet their adversary just cannot get them
Pila Mulligan: some videos are faked in that regard, but there really is an energy reaction element

stevenaia Michinaga: Hi, all. Some of you have asked for book recommendations. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order. Tai Chi as a Path of Wisdom by Linda Lehrhaupt The Way of QiGong by Ken Cohen Inside Tai Chi, Exploring Tai Chi, and Tai Chi Connections - all by John Loupos The Healing Promise of Qi - Roger Jahnke Zen in the Martial Arts - Joe Hyams Kodo Ancient Ways - Kensho Furuya
stevenaia Michinaga: she gave us a book list, do you have a preference
Pila Mulligan: I only have a couple of books - both from the Wu style
stevenaia Michinaga: Since she used to be a nurse, she finds some nice health/TaiChi articles to hand out
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.webmd.com/fibromyalgia/ne...lgia-treatment
Pila Mulligan: I had an older one but when Alfred saw it he wanted it so he ha sit now
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://www.webmd.com/balance/health-...tai-chi-qigong
Pila Mulligan: yes, it is interesting when modern studies validate traditional practices
Pila Mulligan: doe she every refer to yin and yang?
stevenaia Michinaga: as best they can
    Pila Mulligan: ever*
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
stevenaia Michinaga: every class is unique, she has an accupunture "doll" she uses to show the key points that certain position stimulate
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    Pila Mulligan: an interesting idea
stevenaia Michinaga: it;s very educational like here :)
Pila Mulligan: my favorite insight from tai chi and meditation is the internal flow of chi
    Pila Mulligan: feeling it
Pila Mulligan: using acupuncture points to illustrate tings is smart
stevenaia Michinaga: I suspect it will become more evidrnt in time (and practice)
Pila Mulligan: you no doubt have sensed it some already, I'd guess
stevenaia Michinaga: she also takes moments after chigng to let us "feel or sence" the difference in our physical state
Pila Mulligan: this is approaching one of the real enigmas of eastern arts -- the interplay of chi and yin, or prana and shakti in the India tradition
Pila Mulligan: they are mutually supportive, but distinct
Pila Mulligan: feeling the physical state is important
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, something you usually don;t take the time to feel
stevenaia Michinaga: at least at first
Pila Mulligan: well, nothing in our cultural traditions prepares us to do so
Pila Mulligan: in the West, it seems to me anyway
stevenaia Michinaga: seems age with me brings greater sublty in what you sence
    Pila Mulligan: yep
Pila Mulligan: especialy the rigors :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I can;t imagine doing this in my 20's the way I do now, now I don;t care how long the learnng process will take as there is not rush
    Pila Mulligan: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: *no
Pila Mulligan: 20's are more for karate and kung fu maybe :)
stevenaia Michinaga: speed up to slow down
    Pila Mulligan: :)
Pila Mulligan: mastering the self :)
stevenaia Michinaga: I always thought it was interesting how you were not to be allowed to study Kabala in judisum until you studies the torah for 30 years, certain mystical things require great preparation
    Pila Mulligan: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: ofcourse those things don;t apply to Madonna or Britny Spires :)

    --BELL--
