The Guardian for this meeting was stevenaia Michinaga. The comments are by stevenaia Michinaga.

    stevenaia Michinaga: hello doug

doug Sosa: wow where is everyone?

    doug Sosa: where...

stevenaia Michinaga: someday nights tend to be uneven,

    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Cal

    doug Sosa: hi.

    Calvino Rabeni: Hi steve, doug.

stevenaia Michinaga: last week we hosted a class project from Arizona

stevenaia Michinaga: anything goes here in Bieup

Calvino Rabeni: Yes, the one shyann came back a few times

    doug Sosa: ??

stevenaia Michinaga: one of the students, Shyann

    doug Sosa: "anything goes??"

Calvino Rabeni: Perhaps out of curiosity not obligation

stevenaia Michinaga: I was just saying, sunday nights can bring unexpected things

doug Sosa: piles of snow but not cold?

    doug Sosa: ah.

stevenaia Michinaga: well I put on my sweater

    stevenaia Michinaga: :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: winter has arrived

    Calvino Rabeni: Cold here.

    stevenaia Michinaga: snow here

doug Sosa: i fortunately don't have one.

Calvino Rabeni: Doug, sounds like you might have a cold.

doug Sosa: hm, what suggests that?

Calvino Rabeni: I heard a cough

doug Sosa: Is my mike on?

    stevenaia Michinaga: :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: yes doug

    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Arch

doug Sosa: i don't see the radio stuff our of the white dot.

    doug Sosa: hi arch.

    stevenaia Michinaga: radio stuff?

Archmage Atlantis: Hello Steve, Doug, Cal

doug Sosa: when i talk doesn't the white dot appear to radiate?

stevenaia Michinaga: aww it was visible on this end

Calvino Rabeni: The audio dot above the avatar gets green lines when there is sound

doug Sosa: so it seems to indicate that my mike is off.

stevenaia Michinaga: but either you are quiet ot it's off now

Calvino Rabeni: Yes looks off now.

doug Sosa: hm, didn't do anything.

stevenaia Michinaga: or you stopped coughing

doug Sosa: wow, even ice in the fountain.

stevenaia Michinaga: yes, storm wants us to be more touch with northern hemisphere seasons

doug Sosa: oh, he lives in one of those northern hemispheres :)

    --BELL--

stevenaia Michinaga: how is your work going Doug, Last time I saw you there were suggestions of how 9 seconds may assist you and your audience

Archmage Atlantis: Frankly, I think this place could use some cool season garden plants, some palm trees and some tomato starts.......not all off the Northern hemisphere has snow and freezing weather :)

doug Sosa: well, so complicated. lots of meetings, and the 9 sec is personally useful, even in the middle of a talk but i have not yet brought it to groups.

    Archmage Atlantis: (Just kidding

doug Sosa: tomatoes here would be interesting. what to do with them?

stevenaia Michinaga: eat them, throw them

Archmage Atlantis: What is your work project, Doug

doug Sosa: the politics and society about climate change.

doug Sosa: The science is good, the politics is bad, what if it can't be budged, what do we do?

Archmage Atlantis: There a fields of tomatoes right down the road, the crop to ship north in the cold months

stevenaia Michinaga: Has the recent info from those british emails made your discussions more interesting?

Archmage Atlantis: Well, not lie about things would be a good start....the truth will speak for itself in time

doug Sosa: one factor among many. My view is that the hack has got more people thinking, and that part is good. We need to understand better why people are apparently resistant to the climate story.

Archmage Atlantis: That is an easy one, Doug....they haven't experienced the effects themselves

stevenaia Michinaga: it is the easy way...

    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Paradise

Archmage Atlantis: "If it isn't happening to me, it isn't happening"

    stevenaia Michinaga: yes

Paradise Tennant: hiya steve arch cal doug :)

    Archmage Atlantis: Hi Paradise

    Calvino Rabeni: Greetings

doug Sosa: I think it is more complex. one is that the "experts" benefit, as members of an employed elite. Those left out of the economy are really bitter, and may burn down the house.

    doug Sosa: hi

Archmage Atlantis: Of course that gives "someone else" to focus the inconvenience on

stevenaia Michinaga: sounds like quite the dynamic situation to work with

Archmage Atlantis: It's the old Greek action....kill the messenger

Calvino Rabeni: The feeling of desperation keeps people from thinking well.

doug Sosa: yes. I've been calling it "anticipatory despair."

Calvino Rabeni: RIght, despair is deadening and paralyzing

Calvino Rabeni: It was the same with the Peak Oil movement

Archmage Atlantis: I think you are both way too kind in your analysis

    doug Sosa: how so?

Calvino Rabeni: It is something to come to terms with

doug Sosa: There seems to be some new urgency coming in to copenhagen.

doug Sosa: At the bell i need to go to dinner. apologies.

Archmage Atlantis: The majority of people, if things are ok, will ignore it because things are ok..........if they are despairing, they ignore it because they can't do anything about it and it might not affect them

    --BELL--

stevenaia Michinaga: thanks for coming, Doug

Calvino Rabeni: Activists get a narrow view of things sometimes

    Calvino Rabeni: Good by, Doug

    doug Sosa: :)

Paradise Tennant: nite doug :) bon appetite

Archmage Atlantis: I need to be going also....Good night all

Paradise Tennant: good nite arch :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: night Arch

Calvino Rabeni: See you later Arch

stevenaia Michinaga: was thinking earlier about various metaphors that help describer the group dynamic

Calvino Rabeni: I don't know if Doug is an "activist" - maybe I was being rude

stevenaia Michinaga: somewhat related to the questions of the students that visited us last sunday

    Paradise Tennant: listens

stevenaia Michinaga: no Doug always leaves for dinner about this time

    Calvino Rabeni: How so steve?

stevenaia Michinaga: one thought was our discussions seem parallel to music, the volume and the lulls in conversations but in general a harmonious flow

    Paradise Tennant: good analogy :)

Calvino Rabeni: How's the dynamic range, or other qualities?

Paradise Tennant: almost everything can be related to music on some level :)

stevenaia Michinaga: yes, there is both good and bad results

stevenaia Michinaga: but perhaps it was the overall sense of harmony that keeps me coming back, every time a new "movement"

    Paradise Tennant: smiles

stevenaia Michinaga: that was another thought that I was reading in another chat log when one guardian was asked by another, what keeps you coming back

stevenaia Michinaga: can't say I have put my finger on it in a word

stevenaia Michinaga: cept... here I am (again)

Paradise Tennant: hmm I find I learn here .. and the flow of thoughts and ideas is in a way in "rhythm" to my own perspective .. I often feel "in tune" ;)

    stevenaia Michinaga: natural curiosity, yes

Calvino Rabeni: Have you ever noticed there are different scales of rhythm, even very long ones

    Paradise Tennant: yes

Calvino Rabeni: Linger than the "piece" of a composition

    Paradise Tennant: it seems infinite

    Calvino Rabeni: Longer

Paradise Tennant: the possibilities of music

stevenaia Michinaga: yes, but usually pleasant

Calvino Rabeni: So Steve has been coming to PAB for quite a while compared to me, and thus would have a feeling about a longer time span - rhythm at that duration.

Calvino Rabeni: I would not be aware of that at all

Calvino Rabeni: One person I was talking to had been more active and then moved away from it

Calvino Rabeni: That person had a longer-term impression

stevenaia Michinaga: yes, your overall perspective changes with time

stevenaia Michinaga: it;s like chaos, even within the ebbs and flows there is still a pattern

Paradise Tennant: that changes constantly depending on the mix of the group :)

Paradise Tennant: we are like bags of chemicals with all manner of interaction :)

Calvino Rabeni: The pattern is I believe, very revealing of self. Or perhaps I should say, characteristic

    Calvino Rabeni: and individual

stevenaia Michinaga: of self and of the group

stevenaia Michinaga: it's a very gentle thing both for the individuals and the group

stevenaia Michinaga: so here we float in the pond we call PaB

Calvino Rabeni: Gentle? As in "must be held carefully", or meaning subtle?

stevenaia Michinaga: full of lovely currents and music

    --BELL--

stevenaia Michinaga: gentle, I refer to being respectful of each other, an inherent warmth

stevenaia Michinaga: where else can you go to listen for an hour or talk for an hour, both being equally acceptable

stevenaia Michinaga: or in Paradise's example here... sleep :)

    Paradise Tennant: :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: giggles

Calvino Rabeni: If I should be in the mood for intelligent conversation - as is sometimes the case :) - the opportunities here are excellent.

stevenaia Michinaga: I do try to keep up Cal :)

Calvino Rabeni: One night I was quite tired - 45 minutes passed, with little talk, then someone showed up

Calvino Rabeni: and the bright intellect I detected there completely overcame my fatigue. It was delightful.

Paradise Tennant: lots of communication .. does not require talking .. just to enjoy the sense of being together :) kind of a quaker thing but silence can bond as well ;)

stevenaia Michinaga: yes, quite amazing how one simple thought changes everything

Calvino Rabeni: Have you been to the friends meeting, Paradise?

Paradise Tennant: my father was quaker and in fact my family has been quaker for several hundred years back into the 1650s

stevenaia Michinaga: A less active Guardian I know recently stated going to Quaker meeting and thought it was very much in the style of PaB

Calvino Rabeni: I don't know the background - is that in USA?

    Paradise Tennant: yes

Paradise Tennant: started in england they were very early immigrants the mayflower and later boats all had quakers on board

Paradise Tennant: yes have not met I did not like

stevenaia Michinaga: there is much spontaneous expression I am told

Paradise Tennant: yes lots of silence too .. use to fall asleep as a kid .. dad would pinch me

    Paradise Tennant: :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: welcome Bene

    Paradise Tennant: hiya Bene :)

stevenaia Michinaga: for me it's the music we "are"

stevenaia Michinaga: a catchy tune you just want to hear again

    Paradise Tennant: ;)

    Paradise Tennant: lol

    stevenaia Michinaga: stop

    stevenaia Michinaga: lol

stevenaia Michinaga: not exactly but part of it

    --BELL--

    Paradise Tennant: :)

Paradise Tennant: I should scoot off to bed ... thank you ... for sharing .. your time ... your thoughts :) good nite :)

    stevenaia Michinaga: yes same here

    stevenaia Michinaga: night all

    Calvino Rabeni: Good night Paradise!

    Calvino Rabeni: and steve!

Calvino Rabeni: I have a RL call come in - must also go.

    Benedizione Vita: goodnight all

Calvino Rabeni: Good day, bene and doug
