stevenaia Michinaga: hello Calvino and Eden
    Eden Haiku: hi!
    Calvino Rabeni: hello!
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: nice meeting last night, I hope they continue
Eliza Madrigal: Hi Guys, just peeking in for a few minutes :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: Hello Eliza
stevenaia Michinaga: peek to your hearts content
    Eden Haiku: Eliza ;-)
    Eliza Madrigal: hehe, thanks :))
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Paradise :)
stevenaia Michinaga: tonight is Play as Mentor, you all have been guardians for a bit now and have hosted (changing my group to "Host") are there any initial questions
Paradise Tennant: hiya eliza :) hugs hon
    Eden Haiku: Good evening Paradise!
    stevenaia Michinaga: hello Paradise, Eos
    Eliza Madrigal: Hi Eos :)
Paradise Tennant: hiya eden steve eos cal :)
Eden Haiku: My concerns are mainly about posting the logs. ;-)
    Eden Haiku: Hey Eos!
    Paradise Tennant: hello storm !
    Eden Haiku: hearing skates...
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, there are detailed instructions in the wiki that only tend to confuse me
Eos Amaterasu: Hi Eliza, Eden, Paradise, Stevenaia, Sri Storm, Calvino
    Eden Haiku: ;-)
    Storm Nordwind: Hi everyone
    Eliza Madrigal: Hey Storm! :)
Paradise Tennant: I made a note card of an explanation storm gave me ..made it quite simple really
Eden Haiku: The title is especially tricky I think. We need to write the date a certain way with dots after each number.
stevenaia Michinaga: I think I gave Paradise on evening worth of instructions in IM, that seemed to have started you off fine
    Eden Haiku: Yes Paradise?
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I still get title issues on first save, and formating is a nightmare
Eden Haiku: Wol was saying she is planning to change that page of how do to it on the wiki.
stevenaia Michinaga: eccentricities of the wiki
Storm Nordwind: You can always go and change it afterwards Steve, provided you do a Move Page
Eliza Madrigal: Ah, sorry... there's my appt. Nice to see you all momentarily :)
    Eos Amaterasu: :-( :-)
    Eden Haiku: Bye Eliza!
    Storm Nordwind waves
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, I do that
stevenaia Michinaga: I think it matter where you post from as well
    Pema Pera whispers: hi everybody
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: I usually paste to a text editor for spellcheck and that seems to mess up the formatting just fine
stevenaia Michinaga: when I past it to the wiki
    stevenaia Michinaga: paste
    Paradise Tennant: hiya pema
Eden Haiku: Thank you Paradise! i will print this! Precious notecard!
stevenaia Michinaga: but when I take it from Wols web page it usually works out just fine
    Paradise Tennant: thank storm :)
    Eden Haiku: Thank you Storm!
    Storm Nordwind smiles
Eos Amaterasu: I usually copy/paste from Wol's page into a text editor, do some quick cleanup there,
Eos Amaterasu: and while reading think of what the title could be
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, Storm that is the clearest and simplest way
Eos Amaterasu: then copy paste that into the wiki
stevenaia Michinaga: but then there is spell check
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: a necessity for some logs
    stevenaia Michinaga: lightly, of course
Storm Nordwind: Steve, you are a perfectionist! :)
Eden Haiku: I apologize for all my typos Steve...;-((
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes, that's it
    Eos Amaterasu: aren't typos body-language?
    Paradise Tennant: yes !
    Storm Nordwind chuckles
stevenaia Michinaga: trust me, in this field I excel
    Eos Amaterasu: I'm quoting Wol
    Eden Haiku: Consoling thought Eos...
Eden Haiku: Do the commands on the notecard work on a Mac Storm?
Eden Haiku: like ctrl-a things like that...
Eos Amaterasu: Use command-c rather than control-c, etc
Storm Nordwind: I don't know! I wrote it for a PC!
    Eden Haiku: Ah, ok...
Storm Nordwind: And commnd-A I guess too
    Eos Amaterasu: yes
    --BELL--
Eden Haiku: I guess Wol will remain my guru in that matters then...;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: I have a mac, they work fine
    stevenaia Michinaga: command = Apple
stevenaia Michinaga: opps they took that off, it says command now
Eos Amaterasu: I keep a bookmark to the Chat logs page for a given month; makes it easy to post a new log for that month:
stevenaia Michinaga: for general tips for Guardian hosting there is a nicely comprehensive page on the wiki
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://playasbeing.wik.is/Information/Guardian_Tips_for_Hosting_Meetings
Eos Amaterasu: just go to the month page, click New page, and then copy/paste the chat log
    Paradise Tennant: thank you steve
    Eden Haiku: yes it is.
stevenaia Michinaga: do you all have the "Kira Play as Being v3.1" notecard to hand to noobies?
Eos Amaterasu: It will then have a title in the right format: all you have to do is to change the stuff at the end to be the title you want
    Paradise Tennant: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: (Hoping it's the current one)
Eos Amaterasu: Hmm, I have v1.2
Eden Haiku: Thank you. Is the PaB information notecard Steve?
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
    stevenaia Michinaga: have another :)
Storm Nordwind: Did you mean 3.1 or 1.3 Steve?
Eden Haiku: Thanks. I had an older version...
Eden Haiku: Well, maybe it is something else. The one I had says; What is this place?
    Eden Haiku: They are complementary?
Storm Nordwind: That's the one from the info post over there Eden
stevenaia Michinaga: another useful like I keep bookmarked and either paste it for new people or IM is this one
    stevenaia Michinaga: http://playasbeing.wik.is/Information/Play_As_Being_in_a_Nutshell
stevenaia Michinaga: short and concise information
Eos Amaterasu: me thinks of an O'Reilly PaB in a Nutshell book
    Storm Nordwind: Geek!
    Eos Amaterasu: Awk!
Paradise Tennant: geez steve I just noticed you are wearing a turtle neck ..for a second was not sure it was you :)
    Pema Pera: :)
    Storm Nordwind: touche
    Pema Pera: PaB for dummies?
Eden Haiku: Is the tattoo still there on your heart?
stevenaia Michinaga: snow, my montreal friend told me they got 10" earlier today and continuing, how much now Eden?
Eden Haiku: It is calmer now. But it was a full-fledged snowstorm!
stevenaia Michinaga: Storm brought a seasonal winter chill, tattoos not longer seemed appropriate in the snow
stevenaia Michinaga: my typing is degenerating rapidly tonight
    Eos Amaterasu: pitiful sight :-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: laughs
    Eden Haiku: Degenerationonging yes ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, follow my lead
Storm Nordwind: Last night it was -27C in Denver. Now it's much warmer... -15!
Calvino Rabeni: My "RL avatar" has 4 shirts and 2 pairs trowser on.
    Eos Amaterasu: !
    Calvino Rabeni: Drafty old house
Storm Nordwind: Ironically, my wife is just now serving ice cream, and so I will bid you all farewell!
Eos Amaterasu: We have a nice wood fire going downstairs; outside it's howling
    Eos Amaterasu: (yum)
    Storm Nordwind waves
    Eden Haiku: Ice cream nice!
    Calvino Rabeni: Enjoy :)
    Storm Nordwind: Namaste
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye Storm
stevenaia Michinaga: is there any issue that any of you feel you could use more information about, issues, or thoughts about hosting
Calvino Rabeni: I've been collecting PAB "elevator speeches" in a wiki, just for fun.
    stevenaia Michinaga: *or thoughts
Calvino Rabeni: Is there already something like that?
stevenaia Michinaga: PaB explained in 30 seconds
Eos Amaterasu: Quotations of Chairman 9?
Pema Pera: not specifically -- though we do have extensive excerpts
    Eden Haiku: in 30 seconds?
    Pema Pera: :-)
    Calvino Rabeni: Little book
stevenaia Michinaga: the length of attention you have in an elevator
Eden Haiku: I would like to hear the 30 seconds version!
stevenaia Michinaga: to get to talk to someone
Calvino Rabeni: my absolute favorite is the following gem
    --BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: well we are an open public group of people who practice a new kind of awareness meditation called play as being, we meet here 4 times a day and babble about our experiences, we log this talks and put them at our homepage
stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps we can go around the circle and see what each has to say
Pema Pera: (RL calling: lunch time -- bye everybody!)
    Eos Amaterasu: stevenaia
    Paradise Tennant: tc pema :)
    Eden Haiku: Bye Pema ;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: care to give us a 30 second sound bite before you depart Pema?
    stevenaia Michinaga: never mind
    Eden Haiku: Too late!
    Eos Amaterasu: :-)
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Eden Haiku: That was funny Steve!
stevenaia Michinaga: see how fast an elevator moment passes
Eos Amaterasu: how to hold infinity in the palm of your hand / and eternity in an hour
Calvino Rabeni: in the forests of the night
Paradise Tennant: or how to come to your senses ..with your whole attention ..your whole being in the present moment.. a stroll outside of abstraction .. also a pab theme :)
    Eos Amaterasu: your sensory mind
    Eos Amaterasu: appearances are delicious
stevenaia Michinaga: Play as Being is a Second Life group what meets 4 times a day to meditate for 90 seconds every 1/4 hour with the intention to explore the nature of reality from different perspectives, we record our sessions for all to re-read... yadda yadda yadda
Eos Amaterasu: in a yadda da vita
stevenaia Michinaga: after that is scrolls of the screen and becomes impossible to edit
Eos Amaterasu: take a pause, and notice what you notice
    Paradise Tennant: :)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, never do that enough
Calvino Rabeni: I suppose one can have a canned speech, or just make something up and wing it
Calvino Rabeni: I mean, for intro to a new visitor
Eos Amaterasu: I think it's the usual thing of having a lot of stuff available, you've been saturated in, so that then you can let go of it all and be spontaneous
stevenaia Michinaga: notecards are nice to give out to read so they can get a broader view
Eden Haiku: Every person deserves to be greeted in a unique way I think
Eos Amaterasu: and when in doubt, use stevenaia's spinning wheel :-)
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, and to be asked of they will allow their comments to be recorded
Eos Amaterasu: I always give out notecards
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Eden Haiku: Yes, notecards are great to pass on to people and the rest ...
Calvino Rabeni: Did you write the notecards Eos?
Eos Amaterasu: No, I just use the two Kira PaB notecards
stevenaia Michinaga: they have been around for quite a while
Eos Amaterasu: I notice btw that v1.3 needs updating (v 1.4)
Eos Amaterasu: with info about Malta retreat
Paradise Tennant: :) which I need to spend some time organizing for .. so I am going to excuse myself :) thank you all :)
    Eos Amaterasu: bye Paradise
stevenaia Michinaga: that would make them dated very quickly
Eden Haiku: Bye fk dressed beauty!
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye Paradise
Eos Amaterasu: Think I will also go (bed before midnight)
    Calvino Rabeni: bye !
    Eos Amaterasu: Bye gang!
Eden Haiku: Flexi skirted I meant!
    Eden Haiku: Bye Eos!
stevenaia Michinaga: Much of what was discussed at last night facilitation session was applicable to tonight
Eden Haiku: I will be on my way too. Thanks so much Steve. It was very helpful and pleasant.;-)
stevenaia Michinaga: bye Eden, enjoy the snow
Eden Haiku: I remember fondly how you welcomed me the second time I showed up at PaB.
    Eden Haiku: ;-)
    Calvino Rabeni: :) away Eden
stevenaia Michinaga: I have a personal question Cal, if you don;t mind you can answer in IM
stevenaia Michinaga: (I can edit it out of the log as well,) how old are you in RL
    --BELL--

Calvino Rabeni and I continue with a conversations about effectiveness

Calvino Rabeni: You get a feel for people's age and fill it in with guesswork
    stevenaia Michinaga: yes
Calvino Rabeni: Younger people have a lot of focus, often on specific things
Calvino Rabeni: Except for a few geniuses perhaps
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, always refreshing to see that kind of youth
stevenaia Michinaga: even if they are of many years
Calvino Rabeni: I like to think I'm young at heart, rather than immature
Calvino Rabeni: Do you have children?
stevenaia Michinaga: on tormenting 18 yr old
    Calvino Rabeni: :)
    stevenaia Michinaga: u?
Calvino Rabeni: No, although I had a teenage stepson for a while, that relationship is over now
    Calvino Rabeni: Rather a challenge
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: it can be challenging, youth tends to lack patience, even if they are over 50 :)
stevenaia Michinaga: that was actually one of my more enjoyable sessions quite a wile ago, about patience and waiting in lines
Calvino Rabeni: I've had the opportunity to focus on knowledge mostly, in my life so far
Calvino Rabeni: Say more about that?
stevenaia Michinaga: some people dread waiting in lines, like at a supermarket and we talked about why, I enjoy waiting, as there is usually no place that important to go to that you should frustrate yourself looking for the shortest line or just "being impatient" rather than "being waiting"
stevenaia Michinaga: there is much peace in waiting in lines
Calvino Rabeni: I understand that completely - I decided about 8 years ago to change my perception of waiting in lines, and do I think, what you did
stevenaia Michinaga: could you say that last part again
stevenaia Michinaga: " and do I think, what you did"
Calvino Rabeni: I sounds like you decided to be different in that situation
stevenaia Michinaga: there was a point in my life where I simply "let go" and applied it
    stevenaia Michinaga: to everything :)
stevenaia Michinaga: the "let go" lubricant
Calvino Rabeni: There is a place for will.
Calvino Rabeni: It may require that to "let go"
Calvino Rabeni: A slight paradox that some people encounter
    --BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: sounds like a paradox
    stevenaia Michinaga: :)
Calvino Rabeni: A general idea of effectiveness in life - have you thought about that?
stevenaia Michinaga: I see it from the other end, people of strong ideas who are ineffective by their actions
stevenaia Michinaga: impassioned people by are "right" in their opinions but unable to effectively persuade because of their absolute nature
Calvino Rabeni: There are some who are impassioned but not dogmatic - that can be enjoyable
Calvino Rabeni: Actually I decided a while back to enjoy the dogmatic ones too
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, they can also be flexible and bring people together
stevenaia Michinaga: I tend to enjoy those who are dogmatic as sometimes ineffectiveness can also be amusing, especially when you disagree with them
Calvino Rabeni: I'm not sure I "disagree" so much as just don't care to go the direction they are promoting
    stevenaia Michinaga: of course
Calvino Rabeni: Adversarial debate is a game I haven't enjoyed that much
stevenaia Michinaga: if there were a point to it, ie, the possibility of moving their position, I would disagree, but usually that isn;t the point of that sort of discussion
Calvino Rabeni: Not usually about getting new points of view
    stevenaia Michinaga: exactly
Calvino Rabeni: But do you desire to move their point of view? What would be an example of that?
Calvino Rabeni: Like, you want them to be different in some way.
Calvino Rabeni: Unless it is a personal pragmatic thing,
stevenaia Michinaga: it depends if they were interested in what I believe vs telling me what they believe
stevenaia Michinaga: if they want to know my thoughts, simply for an argument, that to can be a pointless (ineffective) discussion
    --BELL--
Calvino Rabeni: Effectiveness, as well as pointlessness, are relative to having a point. Even if it is not well defined.
Calvino Rabeni: If someone wanted to know your thoughts, what kind of point would you want there to be?
stevenaia Michinaga: interest in anthers opinion, not to argue, but to listen
stevenaia Michinaga: the point is understanding and learning
Calvino Rabeni: true for me also
    stevenaia Michinaga: acceptance
stevenaia Michinaga: opening up your eyes a bit wider
stevenaia Michinaga: much information can be learned and applied later
    Calvino Rabeni: yes
Calvino Rabeni: in fact, I think effective learning depends -sometimes - on not having an immediate use for the knowledge
stevenaia Michinaga: Tom Petty quote, "When you stop getting old, you are dead", when you stop learning the same may be true
    stevenaia Michinaga: (my add)
Calvino Rabeni: Taoist quote - it is the hole at the center that makes it useful
Calvino Rabeni: looking at applying will or intention towards learning
    stevenaia Michinaga: how so?
Calvino Rabeni: a focus of attention helps learning ,
Calvino Rabeni: but not in a narrowly instrumental way
Calvino Rabeni: Hard to describe I think
stevenaia Michinaga: perhaps "focus of attention" = Study
Calvino Rabeni: It helps to be able to pay attention, without having an immediate idea of using the information for some specific purpose
stevenaia Michinaga: yes, it seems it can arise later when needed
Calvino Rabeni: LIke, asking a question for the effect it has on opening up understanding, rather than the effect it has on coming to conclusions
Calvino Rabeni: THis kind of learning makes things more ambiguous
Calvino Rabeni: While it appears often people want to make things simpler
    Calvino Rabeni: and get resolved
Calvino Rabeni: As an example, I like to check out various systems people have for thinking about things
Calvino Rabeni: there are lots of systems, structures people are interested in promoting
Calvino Rabeni: often they are used for resolving problems
Calvino Rabeni: I would say, primarily
    Calvino Rabeni: naturally enough, perhaps
Calvino Rabeni: because people have problems to solve
stevenaia Michinaga: can;t say I could define such systems, but I;m sure others have
Calvino Rabeni: But some of those methods can be used to create wider understanding
Calvino Rabeni: Especially if the teacher is mature with it
Calvino Rabeni: I have a specific one in mind - who I will meet with - but probably no need to detail it here
    stevenaia Michinaga: nods
stevenaia Michinaga: it is getting late for me in any case
    --BELL--
stevenaia Michinaga: I should be going soon...
Calvino Rabeni: I will slip out now too - thanks for the conversation Stevenaia
stevenaia Michinaga: thank you, very enjoyable, we can pick it up another time
    Calvino Rabeni: sounds good :)
    Calvino Rabeni: BFN
    stevenaia Michinaga: bye
