Storm Nordwind: Second opinions can indeed be beneficial. Sometimes they give us fresh insight. Sometimes they help reinforce our existing view. They are always valuable... if we give ourselves time to listen. :)

We reflect on reflection! And then progress to learning styles.

Storm Nordwind: I always found it hard to reflect. I went on courses where the first thing of the day was to reflect on what we'd learned the previous day. But...
Storm Nordwind: I so often found it a waste of time as I was always in the "now"...
Storm Nordwind: and reflecting took away the opportunity to experience the current "now" fully
Storm Nordwind: or so I thought!
Adams Rubble: I would never have guessed Storm :)
Adams Rubble: I like to think sometimes we are more open to reflection and other times we bull ahead
Adams Rubble: Once in a while we need a big stop sign
Eden Haiku: Some of us learn through action and exploration, others learn through reflecting. I think it is connected to being visual-oriented or auditive-oriented.
Archmage Atlantis: One sees the calm lake, not the glacier that forges it's lakebed
Storm Nordwind: That's interesting Adams. For me both those things would take me out of the "now".
Storm Nordwind: It is indeed the Activist learning style, Eden

Storm Nordwind: Yes, most people have multiple learning styles they prefer
Adams Rubble: by exploring and then reflecting on it
Eden Haiku: Yes, Adams, I think we all learn both ways but we have a tendency...I'm not too good at stopping to reflect either...
Storm Nordwind: I guess I have an extreme bias towards Activist - or so all the tests confirm

Adams Rubble: I think the stop sign puts me into the now or at least a sort of timeless mode

Eden Haiku: Activist is a new term for that type, I know Adventurer in the Enneagram, is it the same type Storm?
Storm Nordwind: No it's not the same type one-for-one, Eden. But I seem to recall I was that type!

What Eden suggest is quite astute. Though the two systems are different, it's interesting to contemplate the similiarities. Type 7 in the Enneagram system, is also known as the Adventurer or Enthusiast. Looking through my personal records, when I last did the Enneagram tests three years ago, I came out strongly as that type.

Eden Haiku: Would you tell us more about the stop sign that is in front of you Adams?
Storm Nordwind: The styles I refer to are from Peter Honey and Alan Mumford's research, published in the 80s.

Storm Nordwind: They identified 4 main styles: Activist, Reflector, Theorist and Pragmatist

Storm Nordwind: The nice thing for me is that, with a prefered Activist learning style, I can just "stop" and not do anything else at all. Not imagine the future, nor reflect on the past. It's lovely!
Eden Haiku: You said you got the 'feeling' you had to stop Adams, so you are listening to an inner calling. That sounds good to me.
Archmage Atlantis: I find the 9/90 useful, but to stop for me is to cease to exist, to me it is just to continue to be, but to increase or decrease the detail of focus......

Perhaps Adams meant 550,000 minutes, rather than seconds, which would turn out to be a couple of weeks longer than a year.

Eden Haiku: Stopping is not an easy art for me but when I manage to do it, I always revel in it.

Storm Nordwind: I find there is something sumptuous about the word "revel'.

Eden Haiku: I was trying to convey the feeling I got when we played this card game with my family during the holidays.
Storm Nordwind: I always found that words have textures. Is that just me being synesthesic? Or does everyone find that?
Eden Haiku: It is a role-play game with werewolfs and villagers, a sorcerer, a little girl, a seer and so on...

Eden Haiku: We were talking about stop signs before. I have one in front of me: my right eye is hurting. Too much screen time I suppose. I will have to cut it down.

Eden Haiku: My eyes should be at the level of the top of the screen but this new computer has such a big screen that I'm afraid that is the source of the problem

Eden Haiku: Angle of the monitor, yes. I inquired at the store where I bought the computer they had no idea...
Storm Nordwind: Sometimes bigger is not better, I guess. :-/
Adams Rubble: I use reading glasses and need less powerful glasses when using the computer
Eden Haiku: I'm sure your work for the museum took a toll on your eyes Admas. This quite an accomplishment, I really enjoyed the Museum.

Eden Haiku: I wear glasses also but I need to take them off when I'm at the computer...
