        Bolonath Crystal: namaste geoff
        Geoff Baily: hi!!
        Geoff Baily: namaste
        --BELL--

'all forms of sound are a manifestation of silence'

        Geoff Baily: quiet time
        Bolonath Crystal: yes
        Geoff Baily: nice
Bolonath Crystal: i like silence. it is a form of peace
        Nymf Hathaway: Hello :)
Geoff Baily: me too, gives us space to be
        Bolonath Crystal: namaste nymf
        Geoff Baily: Hi Nymf
Nymf Hathaway: The topic is Silence? :)
Bolonath Crystal: would be a nice topic :)
        Geoff Baily: ?:)
Nymf Hathaway: Silence is peaceful indeed :)
Bolonath Crystal: there are so many distractions in rl... for me the inner silence is a kind of retreat
Geoff Baily: Lucky to have it
        Geoff Baily: here
Bolonath Crystal: the 9 sec-practice is a way to find silence in rl, too
        Nymf Hathaway: Agrees
Bolonath Crystal: actually silence is always there, behind the noise
        Geoff Baily: YES
        Geoff Baily: birdsong tho? too
        Geoff Baily: is that silence?
Nymf Hathaway: For me the combination water-silence works the best... shower, lake, river etc
Geoff Baily: yes the fountain too
        Nymf Hathaway: yes
Bolonath Crystal: all forms of sound are a manifestation of silence, just as everything is a manifestation of emptyness (in the buddhist sense)
        Geoff Baily: ;))))
Bolonath Crystal: hindus would call it 'brahman'
        Geoff Baily: :)
Geoff Baily: different paths but the same..........
Bolonath Crystal: not surprising. the different paths are different ways to reach the same
Geoff Baily: but then we are the path
Geoff Baily: advice form an old traveller
Geoff Baily: do not look for the path at your feet
Geoff Baily: look for it on the far side of the valley
        Geoff Baily: :)
Bolonath Crystal: but nevertheless mind your steps ;)
        Geoff Baily: YES YES YES
        Bolonath Crystal: namaste cal
        Nymf Hathaway: Hi Calvino :)
        Geoff Baily: Hi Cal
        Calvino Rabeni: Hello all,
Calvino Rabeni: what came before YES YES YES :) ?
        Geoff Baily: paths
Bolonath Crystal: we started with talking about silence
Bolonath Crystal: talking about silence... *g* what a paradoxon. silence can only be experienced in silence
        Nymf Hathaway: Quite quiet :)
        --BELL--
Bolonath Crystal: how do you experience silence?
Calvino Rabeni: As you may,I think, bolo
Bolonath Crystal: ehm... i mean, do you have a special way /technique to reach a state of inner silence, especially when life gets 'noisy'?
Calvino Rabeni: May I quote you?
        Bolonath Crystal: of course
Calvino Rabeni: Bolonath Crystal: i often meditate about the silence behind the sounds Bolonath Crystal: silence is always there, even in the crudest noise
        Bolonath Crystal: :)
Nymf Hathaway: Silence comes from within
Calvino Rabeni: It is relaxing and stimulating at the same time
        Bolonath Crystal nods silently
Calvino Rabeni: I am trying to figure something out. It is on a felt sense level.
Calvino Rabeni: I did the contemplation for Ways of Knowing workshop today
Nymf Hathaway: Sorry my contribution wasn't much, RL calls again. Have a friendly silence :)
        Bolonath Crystal: om shanti, nymf
Calvino Rabeni: always good to see you Nymf :)
Bolonath Crystal: would you like to tell about your contemplation, cal?

    'follow the energy'

Calvino Rabeni: I got a sense that I have a great energy but no desire
        Calvino Rabeni: THis seems unfamiliar
        Bolonath Crystal: sounds peaceful
Calvino Rabeni: I have the sense I need to follow the energy
Calvino Rabeni: but it isn't desire based
Calvino Rabeni: so I'm not sure how to "do" it
        Bolonath Crystal: wu wei, maybe?
Calvino Rabeni: It might be a mood
Calvino Rabeni: But sometimes things shift like that, I believe
Calvino Rabeni: it would be a very active wu wei, if so
        --BELL--
Bolonath Crystal: well, maybe 'active' and 'wu wei' are not neccessarily contradictions
Bolonath Crystal: there is a similar saying in the bhagavad gita
Calvino Rabeni: as lao tzu says. Does nothing, accomplishes everything.
Calvino Rabeni: What is it in the B/G
        Bolonath Crystal: wb geoff :)
Bolonath Crystal: the gita says, that nobody can refrain from acting even for a single moment. but it is not the self, that acts. it's just the elements of life reacting with each other
Bolonath Crystal: (somewhere in chapter 2)
Bolonath Crystal: sorry, chapter 3 it is
Calvino Rabeni: it's coming back to me - havent read it for years
Calvino Rabeni: and are we counseled to an attitude in regard to it?
Calvino Rabeni: the big play, that is
Bolonath Crystal: yes. krishna suggests a way of acting without attachment to the 'fruits' of acting. he calls it 'offering the action to god'
Bolonath Crystal: i'd rather say: let the elements react and don't identify with the actor
Bolonath Crystal: the word 'god' is sometimes a little problematic ;)
Calvino Rabeni: The "offering" sounds more generous.
Calvino Rabeni: A dimension of it I like now.
        Calvino Rabeni: Geoff, computer problems?
        Geoff Baily: bad crash
Calvino Rabeni: You are right, of course
        Calvino Rabeni: (to bolo)
        Geoff Baily: back now

    developing intuition

Calvino Rabeni: there is always the split between what communicates well and what seems true
        Calvino Rabeni: Often
        Bolonath Crystal: ah, that 'finger-and-moon-stuff'
Calvino Rabeni: I'm thinking of a quote by walt whitman, who might be called an american transcendentalist
Calvino Rabeni: Wisdom cannot be pass’d from one having it, to another not having it; Wisdom is of the Soul, is not susceptible of proof, is its own proof, 80 Applies to all stages and objects and qualities, and is content, Is the certainty of the reality and immortality of things, and the excellence of things; Something there is in the float of the sight of things that provokes it out of the Soul.
        --BELL--
Bolonath Crystal: would be interesting to know, if mankind ever reaches a state of evolution, where a non-symbolic communication is possible. kind of telepathy or whatever
Bolonath Crystal: this would solve that problem
        Geoff Baily: yes
Calvino Rabeni: We already have that.
        Calvino Rabeni: It is normal
        Bolonath Crystal: but widely unused...
        Geoff Baily: can be developed?
Calvino Rabeni: I like to think, always used, but not in an aware way
        Geoff Baily: by practice?
Calvino Rabeni: I think practice refines it
        Geoff Baily: intuition perhaps?
Calvino Rabeni: one word for it I would say
Bolonath Crystal: a matter of awareness? hm... i like this thought
Geoff Baily: any more words for it Cal?
        Calvino Rabeni: awareness of context
        Geoff Baily: ;)
Calvino Rabeni: waking from a trance
Calvino Rabeni: language can narrow the awareness from what it might naturally be
Calvino Rabeni: Of course, can also focus and direct it usefully!
Geoff Baily: I find if one tries to do it, it goes away!
Calvino Rabeni: Can you say what you tried?
Geoff Baily: there are no words for intuitions 'feelings'
Geoff Baily: for example once I had an appointment in a town I did not know.
Geoff Baily: no map no sat nav
Geoff Baily: but i knew the person i was meeting well
Geoff Baily: i just drove witn an open heart and we met up!
Bolonath Crystal: did you expect that, geoff, or was it just 'happening'?
Calvino Rabeni: I've done that. It doesn't always work when I like though :)
Geoff Baily: true, anxiety damps it down
        Geoff Baily: need confidence (faith?)
        Calvino Rabeni: helpful no doubt
Calvino Rabeni: I think maybe animal tracking in the forest could have some of that in it
        Geoff Baily: yes
Bolonath Crystal: it somehow resembles the state we are in when we are newborn. no possibility to really do something, but lots of confidence, that things happen
Geoff Baily: i think that may be a basis. also the beginningof symbolism
Geoff Baily: tracks are not the animal, but they lead to it!!
        Geoff Baily: finger pointing
        --BELL--
Geoff Baily: Sorry to have missed the middle. Must go now......RL
        Calvino Rabeni: Bye Geoff
Bolonath Crystal: very sorry, but i have to leave, too
Geoff Baily: Bye both of you, see you soon
Bolonath Crystal: bye everyone, om shanti
        Calvino Rabeni: See you soon.
        Calvino Rabeni: _/!\_
