The Guardian for this meeting was Agatha Macbeth, standing in for Wol. The comments are by Agatha. Due to technical difficulties (TM), parts of this session were cobbled together from her chat log.

Since Wol was still without her internet connection, I turned up to do the business.  Pema arrived shortly thereafter.

PaB Listener Master: Recording has started!
Agatha Macbeth: Hello recorder :)
Agatha Macbeth: Morning Pema :)
Pema Pera: hi Agatha!
Agatha Macbeth whispers: How are you today?
Pema Pera: You arrived even earlier than I did . . .
Agatha Macbeth: :)
Pema Pera whispers back: "fine"
Agatha Macbeth: The early bird catches the log :)
Pema Pera: hahaha
Agatha Macbeth: Which reminds me...
PaB Listener Master: Agatha Macbeth has just claimed the session and will receive link to the log after the session is done. This replaces any previous claim.
Pema Pera: anything sounds more appetizing than a worm . . .
Agatha Macbeth: That's the main business sorted anyway
Pema Pera: thank you!
Agatha Macbeth: Meep Meep   ;P :p:P :p :P egrins
Agatha Macbeth: ?
Pema Pera: :-)
Agatha Macbeth: Are you in Tokyo?
Pema Pera: yes
Agatha Macbeth: What time is it with you?
Pema Pera: 5 pm
Agatha Macbeth: Wow
Pema Pera: just about the opposite of New York
Agatha Macbeth: So 8 hrs ahead of me then
Pema Pera: yes
Pema Pera: 9 hrs in the winter
Pema Pera: no summertime here in Japan
Agatha Macbeth: Do they not change the clocks then?
Pema Pera: nope
Pema Pera: they're too smart to confuse the world that way
Agatha Macbeth: Neither do Hawaii or Arizona I believe
Pema Pera: yes, I think that's rigth
Agatha Macbeth: Well it certainly saves confusion
Pema Pera: neither did we in Holland, while I was growing up . . . it was in the late seventies that we started
Agatha Macbeth: Particularly in regard to SL
Pema Pera: and the energy gains are debately, I belief
Agatha Macbeth: Ah right
Agatha Macbeth: I think it's just done to give people more daylight
Pema Pera: there seem to be many political sides to it . . .

--BELL--(0100)

At this point, the Autologger decided to start giving me a hard time...

Agatha Macbeth's PaB Listener: Sorry, the PaB webserver is not responding. Error 499
Pema Pera: oops, did you see that?
Agatha Macbeth: I was just about to ask!
Pema Pera: shall we stop and start recording?
Agatha Macbeth: Ok
PaB Listener Master: Recording has stopped, the session is ended.
Agatha Macbeth's PaB Listener: No longer recording. Have a nice day. :)

Now *that's* pretty rich, considering it wasn't even recording me in the first place!  [sigh]

I restarted the session....(and prayed)....

Episode Two:  We left our two intrepid guardians sitting by the fountain, wondering what the hell was going on....

Agatha Macbeth: Now do I claim it again?
Pema Pera: let's keep our fingers crossed, to see whether your listener started up now
Pema Pera: yes please
Pema Pera: you'll get both logs, hopefully

Thankfully I did!

Agatha Macbeth: Well I always have my chat log to fall back on
Pema Pera: just for future reference, here is what we saw on our screens, including the green alarm call:
Pema Pera: 1:00] Agatha Macbeth's PaB Listener: Sorry, the PaB webserver is not responding. Error 499 [1:00] Pema Pera: oops, did you see that? [1:00] Agatha Macbeth: I was just about to ask! [1:00] Pema Pera: shall we stop and start recording? [1:01] Agatha Macbeth: Ok
Agatha Macbeth: Thx
Agatha Macbeth: I should be able to sort it out later
Pema Pera: one suggestion:
Agatha Macbeth: Mm?
Pema Pera: you could tp somewhere else and then come back
Pema Pera: if there is a persistent problem with your listener, that should stop that problem
Agatha Macbeth: Should I do that now?
Pema Pera: I don't know how it is coded, but restarting both the recorder and your presence should cover all bases
Pema Pera: sure
Agatha Macbeth: OK

So I teleported home to Mugunghwa and back to the Pavilion.  Oh what a lark!

Pema Pera: wb!
Agatha Macbeth: :)
Pema Pera: as long as at least one guardian remains, the recording will continue
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, I didn't get a message while I was away
Agatha Macbeth: Maybe Wol needs to redesign it from the ground up!
Pema Pera: perhaps, yes, some day :-) She did indicate that she didn't feel that adding extra bandaids to it would be the right thing to do
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, I remember
Agatha Macbeth: She said something like 'You can only patch any software so many times'
Pema Pera: :-)

Our thoughts turn to Wol....

Agatha Macbeth: I bet she's really frustrated at the moment
Agatha Macbeth: Not being able to get online
Pema Pera: yes, I'm sure
Pema Pera: but the time of year is perfect for going for a walk in RL -- could have been worse :-)
Agatha Macbeth: She' ll probably be reading a lot [grin]
Pema Pera: perhaps all of the above? Walking to a terrace, book in hand, drinking a beer there, . . .
Agatha Macbeth: Yes [sighs wistfully]
Pema Pera: we can make up a whole Wol story!
Pema Pera: what do you think will happen at the terrace?
Agatha Macbeth: We probably could, very easily :)
Agatha Macbeth: Er
Agatha Macbeth: She'll realise she picked the wrong book up?
Agatha Macbeth: :p
Pema Pera: ah, of course, she will say to herself

OH $%*& !!!

Pema Pera: deliberating whether to read the wrong book or . . .
Agatha Macbeth: Say 'This one is probably a better read anyway'

No, what she would do would do would be curse vehemently over not being able to blog about it! :p

Pema Pera: hi Bert!
Agatha Macbeth: Hi Bert
Bertram Jacobus: heyy - good morning from germany :-)
Agatha Macbeth: How's Berti this morning?
Pema Pera: Bert, we're wondering what Wol is doing right now, given that she has no internet
Bertram Jacobus: at 11:30 i have to be at the state office for work, so ... "let´s see" ...
Pema Pera: we got to the point that she came to a terrace, to drink a beer and read a book, but then realized it was the wrong book
Bertram Jacobus: (10:13 now here)
Agatha Macbeth: ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: wol ... hmm ...
Bertram Jacobus: i tried to give her a message, that she could use such an internet stick - but wouldn´t she have that idea by herself ?
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, what is an internet stick?

--BELL--(0115)

Bertram Jacobus: a dongle ? which works like a cellphone
Bertram Jacobus: oops sry
Agatha Macbeth: I see. I didn't know of such a thing
Bertram Jacobus: so you can have internet success without the need of a personal cable access
Agatha Macbeth: That sounds good
Agatha Macbeth: Modern technology is amazing
Bertram Jacobus: that is great - i used it myself while moving from one flat to another and had so no time without net access
Agatha Macbeth: Are they expensive?
Bertram Jacobus: i agree : even sl is possible with that so to call mobile internet stick
Agatha Macbeth: Wow
Agatha Macbeth: I might look into that, just in case
Bertram Jacobus: there are for sure different variations : i choosed one where you get the stick for about 30 E‚¬ and you pay for 1 hour use 1 E‚¬ , for 12 hours 3E‚¬ and for a whole week around 10 E‚¬ i guess - so you don´t have a long running contract
Agatha Macbeth nods
Agatha Macbeth: Ok, thanks
Bertram Jacobus: but it is different from country to country as i hear ... - but ireland, for example, has similar conditions
Agatha Macbeth: Well if they have it in Ireland, they are sure to have it here too :)
Bertram Jacobus: and also important : here we have different networks - and it´s important to choose the best one i would say. i did so and the prices i wrote down just before, are for that best one here
Agatha Macbeth nods
Bertram Jacobus: sure. but as said : the prices may vary a bit - don´t know ...
Agatha Macbeth smiles
Agatha Macbeth: Thanks anyway
Bertram Jacobus: welcome agatha :-)
Agatha Macbeth: These things are good to know
Bertram Jacobus: yes - that are hughe fields of knowledge sometimes and only when you study them you find the really good solutions - kind of tactic of the companies : if you don´t inform very well and research - you pay much more ...
Agatha Macbeth: Ha, yes true!
Agatha Macbeth: A little knowledge goes a long way
Bertram Jacobus: a modern form of earning much money. that didn´t exist in that way in former times if i remember correctly
Agatha Macbeth: I guess making money is why the companies are in it to begin with, so...
Pema Pera: :)
Agatha Macbeth: If they can trade on peoples' ignorance they will
Agatha Macbeth: It's up to us to stay informed
Bertram Jacobus: but - what were your considerings about Wol ? i hope, no worries ?
Agatha Macbeth: No, I just said she was probably feeling very frustrated at the moment
Bertram Jacobus: ah. "okay" ... hm ! ...
Pema Pera: and then we started to visualize her first life
Agatha Macbeth: I had something similar in April for about 5 days, and it annoyed me
Bertram Jacobus: yess - but may be an interesting experience, too ?
Agatha Macbeth: Hmm...depends on definition of 'interesting'
Pema Pera: :)
Agatha Macbeth: Like the Chinese 'may you live in interesting times'?
Bertram Jacobus: hehe ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: yes, why not : learning from difficulties ...
Bertram Jacobus: appreciate them as chance
Agatha Macbeth: Always a good thing to do
Agatha Macbeth: Then they may not be so difficult next time :)
Bertram Jacobus: yes !
Pema Pera: as they say in business: every crisis is an opportunity :-)

--BELL--(0130)

Bertram Jacobus: and when i notice that i´m a bit or even to much depending from something like for example the net - i try to become very careful and aware about such and try to adjust my handling ...
Bertram Jacobus: oops - again
Agatha Macbeth: (Hi Qt)
Pema Pera: hi there Qt!
Bertram Jacobus: i know that sentence from the asian philosophy pema and were told that even the writing of crisis would be the same like chance in one of those languages (was it chinese?) ...
Qt Core: Hi all!\
Bertram Jacobus: and hello qt :-)
Pema Pera: may be, Bert
Agatha Macbeth: Chinese is an interesting language
Agatha Macbeth: Or many different languages in fact
Pema Pera: the written language allows contact across quite a few different dialects with very different pronounciations
Qt Core: i was reading about language and thought and there was a chapter about time, and chinese language/way you think has an unique way to "see" time
Agatha Macbeth: Strange how the same thing written in Cantonese and Mandarin are pronounced completely different
Agatha Macbeth nods @ Qt
Pema Pera: what did the chapter say, Qt?
Qt Core: most people see future in front of us and past in the back
Agatha Macbeth: People in Asia seem to have a different concept of time to the West
Qt Core: chinese see past on top and future on bottom
Agatha Macbeth: :)
Qt Core: following writing
Pema Pera: so we're falling?
Agatha Macbeth: Strange, I always think of time moving from right to left for some reason
Qt Core: there is also a tribe, idian if i remember it right that see the pas as being in front of us, as we know/can see it and future ion our back as we don't know/can't see it
Pema Pera: are you left or right handed, Agatha?
Agatha Macbeth: Well both actually
Pema Pera: !
Agatha Macbeth: I do some things with one hand and some with the other
Pema Pera: so you can shoot from the hip with both hands?
Agatha Macbeth: I write right but throw left for example
Agatha Macbeth: Dunno why
Pema Pera envisioning Agatha in a cowboy movie
Pema Pera: or cowgirl
Bertram Jacobus: i only play mini golf as a left handed person - very astonishing - did that as little boy already ... all other : right handed
Qt Core: this usually is from left handed people forced to do thing as a right handed one (from the times being left handed was evil)
Agatha Macbeth: Moooooo
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, I always found it strange
Agatha Macbeth: Just put it down to being a pretty confused person ;-)
Pema Pera: :-)
Qt Core: most of the people i know agree that i am right handed with two left hand
Bertram Jacobus: but again to the story with "future in the back and past in front of us" : isn´t it really "better" to look forward then looking backward (hope you know what i mean - typical view of the first and second world) ? ...
Pema Pera: :)
Agatha Macbeth: And I can use a mouse with either hand just as well
Qt Core: me too! (my only physical ability)
Agatha Macbeth: Let me think about that Bert
Bertram Jacobus: yes plz ty
Pema Pera: which second world, Bert?
Bertram Jacobus: america is called the second world - between the first and the third one
Qt Core: is not as that tribe look back, it is only the idea that you know the past but not the future, so you see the past but cant see the future, only imagine it
Agatha Macbeth: That's certainly true Qt
Pema Pera: yes, we're walking backwards, backing up into the future
Bertram Jacobus: so we and you consider lookin forward as "better" ?
Agatha Macbeth: 'I'm walking backwards for Christmas...'
Bertram Jacobus: hehe
Bertram Jacobus: may be lookin in all directions may be best and at the bright side of life (!) ;-)
Qt Core: if not for getting hints on what the future could be is not so useful to look at the past
Agatha Macbeth: Always look on the bright side of life Berti :)
Bertram Jacobus: yes. may be the best monthy phyton´s hint ? or at least the most known ...
Qt Core: past as an explanation/cause of present and future

--BELL--(0145)

Pema Pera: sorry, have to leave early today, to get to dinner in time
Agatha Macbeth: As Yoda said 'Uncertain this boy's future is'
Qt Core: bye, enjoy
Bertram Jacobus: [bye pema] ... :-9
Agatha Macbeth: Bye for now Pem, don't eat too much sushi :)
Pema Pera: (bye Bert, Agatha, Qt)
Bertram Jacobus: i love yoda and his way of talkin ! ... :-))
Agatha Macbeth nods
Agatha Macbeth: Use the Force you must
Bertram Jacobus: and even talk like him sometimes, in german "for sure" (?) - and people then notice and say it to me : you talk like yoda ! ... :o)
Agatha Macbeth: You look a bit like him too Bert ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: what !? :o)
Qt Core: just talk latin or thai then, one prefer and the other impose the verb at the end ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: Hehe
Bertram Jacobus: why !? :o)
Bertram Jacobus: i mean ... ty ! ;o)
Agatha Macbeth: Yes, and Hebrew and Arabic put it first I think
Bertram Jacobus: but in german that souns very special - i´d guess in english too
Bertram Jacobus: sounds*
Agatha Macbeth: Not sure about Chinese...
Qt Core: weird in italian too (we can easily move the verb around but still weird)
Bertram Jacobus: :-)
Agatha Macbeth: Language is a wonderful thing
Bertram Jacobus: a powerful mean as well
Agatha Macbeth: Manipulating things to give them meaning
Qt Core: i'll suggest most if not all the work of Steven Pinker: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss....37_189&fsc=-1
Qt Core: the book i mentioned before is: The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window into Human Nature
Bertram Jacobus: a very special experience to me was that i even in math could convince my teacher once, that he had to give me a better note (!) - and that was only because of the power of language was my secret impression (!) ...
Agatha Macbeth: Thanks, I don't know him
Agatha Macbeth: How the Mind Works eh?
Qt Core: ;-)
Bertram Jacobus: sry - i meant school grade. not note
Agatha Macbeth: Sounds good
Agatha Macbeth wikis Steven Pinker
Qt Core: smart guy ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: Interesting
Agatha Macbeth: Pema and I had a bit of a problem with the Recorder at the start, hope it's working...
Bertram Jacobus: okay - i have to leave ... have a nice day both and may all beings be happy please ! :-)
Agatha Macbeth: May all Berts be happy too :)
Qt Core: bye bert
Bertram Jacobus: if all beings would be happy and if bert is a being - bert would be happy too ! - but ty anyway agatha ! :-))
Agatha Macbeth: Ha
Bertram Jacobus: even all berts ! ... hehe ... whoosh
Agatha Macbeth: (Nutter)

I mention about some 'grief-spamming' Qt has been suffering...

Agatha Macbeth: Are you still getting those messages Qt?
Qt Core: yes, clear the cache did nothing
Agatha Macbeth: That is *so* annoying
Qt Core: as for the sounds i should get dozens but in the endlately i got only six
Agatha Macbeth nods
Agatha Macbeth: You would think people had better things to do
Qt Core: like spraying paint on walls ? ;-)
Agatha Macbeth: Yeah, that too
Qt Core: or bullying kids
Agatha Macbeth sighs

--BELL--(0200)

Agatha Macbeth: Ah well...
Agatha Macbeth: Shopping time for me I'm afraid
Qt Core: :-) cooking time for me
Agatha Macbeth: Take care Qt, maybe see you later :)
Qt Core: ok, bye
