Trying different spots of wall in the house... Yesterday, a bright and sunny one.
Though no display for last Art of Being, surely the Goldilocks effect of trying on the chairs of others feels to have come into explorations... chairs, shoes, minds, walls...
In yesterday's contributions, I enjoyed the way that O's and Eliza's contributions jibed, and I then spent some time sitting in a park, it being a nice Saturday afternoon in Manhattan, appreciating the presence of appearance, of all that appeared. Appreciation implied gratefulness as well as awareness of distinctions. It felt like letting my eyes and ears and all sense organs and imagination all graze on distinctions.
The interaction between doing and allowing is a subtle one, because it is not only big new things that need to be done before they can be allowed, but some small things as well. And some keep on needing more action than others. For instance, for relaxing my feet, I need to shift my weight. This simply will not become as automatic as relaxing my shoulders.
And thank you for yesterdays compliment, pema. It is good to have such an appreciative audience.
Been away from 99 days for a few days, schedule being crowding things out, much attention given to work getting busy (a good thing), cat recovering from kidney infection, father in hospital w/ stroke improving after 2 weeks, hope to now find time to continue daily practice. Today I took the time to go to MOMA with Spouse and office associate to see the De Kooning Retrospective. Gallery viewing is like a meditation, hours in front of hundreds of amazing paintings all from one mind over a lifetime reflecting back at you. Tonight after a bit of time on the computer with cat between my arms I got up to do my standing meditation and Tai Chi, kitty sat on the table and observed me, waiting for my return and now with his body between my arms and the computer and his head on my right wrist, I type this blog. edited 01:26, 16 Oct 2011

discovering held by space
Spent four hours focussing on painting an orchid.
Yellows, greens, and a purple against crisp, smoothe white paper.
No emptiness there except for a cessation of chatter in the brain.
In email regarding the color test, Fefonz said: "One interesting fact about human perception of color, is that it is very relative - so colors that are standing next to each other influence the color perceived by the eye." --- In 3D graphics, this is called "ambient occlusion." Ambient occlusion attempts to approximate the way light radiates in real life, especially off what are normally considered non-reflective surfaces.
In 99-Days comments, I have been celebrating ambient occlusion as a way of "participation."

Eos, _/!\_ ...
Eden, woke from a dream with a few strange lines, among them 'free the liberators'. Using
Pema's word, it seemed to 'jibe' with your talk...
Will stand for meditation today, ala Wester ...
and wondering where my feet can find smoothe white sand...
